[Q] Flashing boot img - HTC One Max

I am S-On. What are the proper steps to flash a Rom, but also having to flash the boot.img? Thank you for any help.

Flash Rom in twrp. Pull boot.img out of the Rom's zip file and place in your working fastboot directory. Reboot to fastboot/bootloader from twrp. Command from your pc will be
fastboot flash boot boot.img

When flashing a rom from 4extRecovery, do you still have to use fastboot to flash the boot?
i.e. fastboot flash boot boot.img
or does the recovery do that by itself?

If you are still s on like I am you can enable smart flash and it will detect changes and flash those right when the kernel loads then reboot to finish installation. So probably not?

No everything will be done from the app/recovery without the need for a pc regardless of Hboot 1.4 or 1.5

most people refer to the RUU. but PH98IMG.zip can be alot of different things

if your not looking to get back to stock than don't flash the zip from the link above

Well basically I need the txt file in the boot img. my phone is s-on and I always have to flash the ph
are you sure your not getting that confused?
if flashing a rom.
1.Flash ROM zip in recovery
2.Take the boot.img out of the ROM zip you just flashed
3.Reboot to Fastboot and flash the boot.img through ADB with the command: Fastboot flash boot boot.img
i don't see why anyone would need to flash the boot.img from an RUU. and if you did flash a boot.img from an RUU after you installed a ROM than i dont think the ROM would work at all
just clearing that up if you don't know or new to ROMing :good:
Or just "fastboot boot recovery.zip" and flash normally, if you are S-ON and BOOT recovery via fastboot, you can flash the ROM normally and not have to manually flash the boot.img in Fastboot like you do if you flash the ROM from an installed recovery.

As a mac user I tried this. With adb all set up on the mac to use terminal (the whole folder and everything was set up long ago when unlocking). I have to use the command ./fastboot instead of just fastboot with terminal. Anyway, when ./fastboot flash boot boot.img it never works. It seems like it works, but then the phone just goes into the white HTC screen and is stuck there. It never boots.

Yes you must flash boot.img in fastboot. S-ON devices aren't allowed to flash boot.img in recovery, no matter if you install or restore a rom.

Flash the correct one. Either get the flashable zip and flash through recovery or get the boot.img and place in your working Fastboot directory. Then boot phone into Fastboot mode and do a "Fastboot flash boot (name of img) "

Softbrick after twrp flash

Hi everyone,
I tried to install Lineage OS on my Xperia Tablet Z Wifi and followed the instructions here: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/pollux_windy/install
I am on Ubuntu and I did unlock the bootloader successfully. Then I tried to flash twrp but this is where things went wrong.
After entering
Code:
fastboot flash boot ./twrp-3.5.2_9-0-pollux_windy.img
the device did not start anymore. I can still enter fastboot mode and the device is recognized on the PC but else the only thing that happens is the LED blinking red.
Any ideas where to go from here are appreciated.

you flashed recovery to boot. So only recovery exists in boot section.
Of course tablet won't boot afterwards, as there is not kernel.
Download custom rom you want to install, unpack boot.img from roms zip files and flash via "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Afterwards enter recovery and flash custom rom zip, gapps or whatever you need.

You can reflash stock ROM via Flashtool v.0.9.18.6. or flash another boot.img to check if it boots or not.
Thank you, this worked for me.
Should have used the right twrp form the beginning. flash to boot works if it is the right version in my case scorpion_windy
