[Q] How is watch updated. - LG G Watch

I have an LG G Watch connected to my LG G3 using Jasmine ROM. The ROM has OTA updates disabled for the phone, but I was not sure how OTA updates came for the device. I assume they come through the app but wanted to make sure as I have not received 5.0.1 yet and everyone I know that has the G Watch has received the OTA. Thanks in advance.

The G Watch receives OTA updates via it's own copy of Google Play Services. Your phone's ROM has no bearing on whether or not your watch will receive an update. Hope I've answered your question for you.

OTA getting closer *proof*

I have the OTA leak v3 or whatever (2.36.605.1) and haven't been able to see copy protected apps....until today.
I ran the *#*#checkin#*#* code and went to the market. Copy protected apps like skype mobile are now there which must mean that Verizon has let the Market know that the build is an official build.
I think that only means the update should be coming out VERY soon. I am betting it will be within a few days.

If true this is good news. I've been riding leak 2 for a while and can't wait to see the phone reach a point where there is one platform for people to try to root from.
I'm hoping one of our great Devs will post the "Official" 2.1 once it has been released. I have the 2.1v3...so I don't think I'd get the notification to update, but I'd like to install the "Official" one.
Sorry for the NooB'ish questions. If somebody could answer all of these questions I would be very grateful. Thanks!
I am running the original 2.1 leak - (2.41.04.02.02).
* Will I be able to recieve the OTA update or is it only for people running 1.5?
* Will it automatically update my phone or will I be notified that there is an update available and then I have to manually update it?
* Because my phone is not rooted, is there a way to backup all my apps and other info not saved to the sdcard? If so, what program/app should I use for this?
Thanks again.

From what I know...(I could be wrong)...:
You will not get the notification to update if you are running a leak.
..so you will not get any notification saying it's out, other than here. the option to update to the official can only be done if someone who receives it, saves it and posts it here. (not certian how that is done, but they did it for all the G1 updates that I used)
..only way to back up apps that I know of for non rooted it Linda File manager or Astro File manager. But, you can just re-download them from market. I have installed every leak on my phone and just went to market and started downloading...purchases showed up for me. Either way, you have to re-install all of them again.
The thing is no one really knows. Depending on how they update the phone all of them (leak 3 and earlier) will get update notices, only leak 2 and earlier will get them, or only official builds will get notices. We'll find out starting tomorrow it sounds like.
Even if it doesn't come OTA to phones with the leaked versions, we should still be able to do it manually. Verizon's own testers are running the leaked versions, so I imagine they're going to make sure those people aren't "stuck."

What's a *#*#checkin#*#* code?
if you type that as though you are going to call it, it will run a program that checks for updates. The program normally runs at least every 24 hours but you can run it manually by typing it in.

I'm lost...sorry
Double post....sorry
So I typed in the*#*#checkin#*#* and I was given a notification "checkin:success" What does this mean (I don't think its the update because Settings->About->Check for updates still shows nothing)
Edit:
Oh I have 2.1 leakv3

OP is correct. I purchased Documents2go full version before I had upgraded to the leak and have been without it for awhile now. just checked my downloads area of market and it was finally there again. so looks like the documents saying it comes out tomorrow might be true.

I posted an email from customer service in the other thread but here's an exerpt about the OTA
". I'm pleased to let you know that we have recently approved the upgrade to Android 2.1 (Software Version ROM: 2.36.605.1/Radio: 2.42.00.04.12) for the Eris. This upgrade will be automatically sent to customers in stages beginning on May 11. Your phone will notify you when the upgrade is available to install. "
**obligatory n00b disclaimer**
I'm still running 1.5 with plans to root soon. If I snag the OTA will it hinder me rooting once 2.1 gets rooted for the Eris?

Fitbit app

My wife gave me a Fitbit for Christmas (Apparently, she wants me to get off my butt more and move around!)
The Fitbit is a small wearable device that measures your activity level, etc. The Fitbit app uses Bluetooth 4.0 to sync with the device. The sync function is working with my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, which is setup with a custom ROM. The app does not sync on the G Pad using stock firmware.
According to the specs I see, the G Pad is supposed to have support for BT 4.0. I don't have any other devices that use it.
Does anybody here have a Fitbit device? I'm curious to know if anybody has tried to sync one on a G Pad with different firmware. Or on a GPE device. It might be that it would work on a 4.3 or 4.4 ROM.
I have a GPE and the app syncs fine with my Flex. I did, however, participate in the Fitbit beta program when they were testing for devices other than the Galaxy series (namely Nexus and Motorola devices with BT 4.0). My Fitbit app is version 1.8.4 if that helps. Here's the link to the beta program: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ZVjMd9JsDyo45g7uUV60clx7D780ouDka-wgNwvqxmA/viewform
Yes, I was playing with my new fitbit all day yesterday and unless you have one of their devices that is currently known to be compatible you have to be signed up for the Beta program. I am currently running android 4.4 with the cyanogenmod.
I signed up for the Beta by joining the google group here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/fitbit-android-sync-beta
Which allows you to go to: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.fitbit.FitbitMobile
Where you click become a tester. You then need to uninstall the fitbit app, clear the cache for the google play store (I used Clean Master to do this), and reinstall the fitbit app. You will now have the beta version of the app and when you login it will automatically find and start syncing to your fitbit. Note that by default the background syncing is turned off. If you want to be able to do this you have to enable it under devices.
Indeed LG gpad Hardware supports bt4. You need 4.3+ Android for bt4. I tried it with cm and it works.
If you want stock experience, then you have to wait for the Kitkat release.
Forgot to add : I tried it with a polar h7 bt4 heart rate monitor. Works great.
Not necessarily true regarding needing 4.3. They do support the LG G2 which is still on 4.2 stock. Im using it with mine and it syncs fine to the G2. I've never tried syncing to my G Pad tho

Good to know. I might check the fitbit after all.
Unfortunately the polar h7 doesn't want to pair with my Stock LG g2. It is after 4.3 that Android provides platform support to bt4. The solution that LG and Samsung used in the lower api levels apparently doesn't pay nice with all hardware.

Correct. The Fitbit app syncs on my Galaxy S3, which is using a custom rom running Android 4.1.2. That version doesn't support Bluetooth 4.0., so I think they must have it working with Bluetooth 3 on some devices.

I have an LG Lucid 2 running 4.1.2 on a custom rom and while the tech specs say it has bluetooth 4.0 I can't get it to sync. It doesn't even look like the beta version is installing at all but I don't know how to tell for sure.

Looks to me like the app checks to see what device it's installed on and the sync features are only enabled for certain devices. On the G Pad, I can check my my dashboard, etc., but I can't sync or interact with the tracker. On the S3, the app lets me sync and do other things.
I've no way of trying this myself but to you guys who say that you should have support for BT4.0, you could try and trick the device that will not sync. Go into the build.prop and take the ro buildnumber and name and so on and change them to the same of a device that you are certain it works with. If the the Fitbit is checking up against a buildnumber or model number, chances are it's from the build.prop. And could be funny if you could actually trick it just by making your phone into something else. ^^ (That is if BT4 is supported as said.)

That's a really good idea. I have double and triple checked the specs for my phone and it does say Bluetooth 4.0. I think I'll try this since it worked for me tricking QPair into thinking my gpad was a v510. Thanks!

Ah, rule number one of flashing KitKat: When done go to play store and get supersu, run it and let it update the binary. Choose normal, not CWM\TWPR. Let it finish the install, takes10 secs or so. Restart and tadaa root. It has to be done on all devices for now. Go into supersu after reboot and find Settings and then untick "Respect CM superuser bleh bleh."
Good luck.

And you have tried build.prop and it worked on your G Pad with CM 11? Funny, I had to do it on two different devices and just assumed I would have to on the G Pad as well. Now 4.1 i don't recall had any root issues, beats me why you can't edit the system on that one. Anyways, sounds like an incomplete root, like what happened in ICS 4.0 on the first Galaxy Note. Gave root but didn't do it for the full system..

Update for Gear S?

I just picked up my Gear S yesterday and while playing around in the "Samsung Gear" app I noticed there is a 22MB update for the watch. I never received a push notification to update, I had to manually check. Has anyone seen this or updated their watch, how recent is this update? I just want to make sure this update doesnt break anything in the process of fixing something...

Google Hangout Notifications not working since 5.0 OTA

Recently upgraded via OTA
Since then I no longer receive notifications from messages, video chat invites, etc. The only way I can see if I have new messages is to open a conversation. No notification light, sounds, or popups.
I have factory reset twice and have made sure hangouts is in the priority app list.
Anyone have any ideas?

That is the known issue called the "wireless sync bug", which happens with the latest OTA update 23C. I've had that happen with Hangouts/Inbox/Gmail, so I flashed the phone back to 10B then took OTA's up to 12B, to stay on Android 4.4.2.
Ugh, what a nightmare. I knew I shouldn't have updated haha...
I really did not want to get into the rooting/flashing stuff ... looks like I have no choice.

Just use the LG FlashTool to return to the 10B update, then take two OTA's to get you up to 12B. No need to root or anything to do that. You'll wipe your entire phone though, so if you do go this route, make sure you save any photos/music/files you want to keep.
No real point to upgrading from 10b though, is there. The only real changes were the addition of the buggy Advanced Calling VoLTE capability that drops calls often, right ?
I have had a LOT of experience with Verizonz updates, and I really believe their secret true intent is to encourage their customers to sign up for a new two year contract with Verizon in order to get a discount on a new phone.

Looking for Motorola Update Service components to disable to prevent OTA or OTA msg

Currently:
Android version 6.0.1
Model: XT1650-02
Build Number MCLS24.246-36-3
I'm one of many people experiencing issues with the Moto Z (Force) move to Nougat. In doing so, I have choppy audio, tinny sound, popping and crackling as well. When contacting Verizon, they claim that nobody else is complaining about this to a point where their company is notifying its CS reps with a resolution. When contacting Lenovo/Motorola, they claim that they've received a ton of complaints since the Nougat release, and suggested that I bring the phone back for a swap since I had only just purchased it. I did just that, and followed their additional instruction for not updating to Nougat. The only problem is that the freakin thing downloads automatically while on wifi within a day and no way to prevent it that I know of. Now I have this aggressive attempt of the OTA management to get me to start the process. I don't want to, but neither do I want to manage having to ignore this update every day, nor do I want to accidentally initiate the process. I'm looking for a bit of help.
I thought that if I disabled the Motorola OTA service that it wouldn't push. But it did push even though I stopped the service under developer options. And even now that it pushed, I hoped not to get the message, but there it is. And since I don't want to root yet, I can't clear the space in cache where the update is to prevent it from updating accidentally. I'm looking for the names of any other Moto services that might be related to the OTA that I can disable to prevent this from happening. I don't mind factory defaulting my phone and starting over to clear their cache, but once the update actually executes, I'm hosed with crappy audio again. My wife has the same phone and we have one day to get her a new one for free within our return period. We like the phone, do not want to get a different brand, and hope that we can find a solution to this. Again, I want to do this without rooting.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Hi,
I myself greenified the app called "Motorola-Updateservices", package name is com.motorola.ccc.ota, apk name is 3c_ota.apk
Since then I never had another notification that nougat is available and I didn't search for updates either of course.

About to download and try it out. If it works, I'll be back in a couple days to report. If it doesn't, I'll be back sooner. Thank you for the suggestion.
Also, if you can provide any specific configurations to manage the OTA, I'm at your disposal.
SuD
PS I won't be searching for updates either, but I will be bugging Lenovo/Motorola to find out when the bug is fixed.
I'm rooted, have xposed and the donation version of the app.
As the OTA app is a system app you can't greenify it without having xposed installed and the donation package of Greenify.
Try to just disable the app with the normal app manager.

Debloater still works on 6.01 run it and 3c_ota.apk will be near the top of the list.

It worked on 6.01 but no longer on 7.0. If you debloat on 6.01 and take the OTA to 7.0 everything you've debloated stays that way unless you do a factory reset.
for some reason google took away the ability to use the adb commands in 7.0
Almost like they want us to be stuck with bloat lol.

I just tried it and I get some permission error. So it seems after the Dec patch it no longer works on '6.
I have Moto Z Play -1.
any suggestions for someone who might have accidentally downloaded the system update, but hasn't installed it yet? It makes me nervous, having that "new system software is downloaded and ready to install" message b/c I know one day I'll probably accidentally click on it and there won't be a way to go back.
I am a Z play owner.
By installing Z (not play) apps I believe I have disabled the OTA. But I have no nagging update to test it's functionality on.
To my point, if this does work then the reverse should work also.
I will up my apps if anyone want to try it.

Evidence it will work. https://www.darklaunch.com/2015/04/10/disable-motorolaota

Received the following error:
Code:
Processing changes to: Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.
Drivers installed
USB Debugging set
RSA key accepted
Etc.
Seems a common error with some folks. As for me, this does not work on this phone at this time. Thank you for the nudge to look at this utility, as I have high hopes that its exactly what I need. I have posted in their forum, and have offered to test prototypes.
Thanks again.
