Both the ways you can! It will be better if you flash kernel after cyanogen booted up!

No No
My question was whether flashing a cyanogenmod custom rom gives us stock kernel + cm rom or cm kernel + cm rom

No. You have to flash the corresponding kernel each time you change your android version. At the moment there is no kernel supporting cm7 and cm9 the same time.
send from my mt11i with cm10 unofficially (TheDarkDefender build) on fusion kernel v5

[KERNEL][3.1.10] STE u8500 kernel upgrade project

Team Falcon
Hi
This project started a month ago and now I'm releasing it!
The target is upgrading the kernel till 3.4.76.
This kernel is mainly made to let the others cherry pick commits into theirs to upgrade kernel faster! I "compressed" many commits in less.
If you are going to use it / cherry pick commits into yours please add this in credits:
Code:
KINGbabasula for 3.1.x/3.2.x/3.3.x/3.4.x kernel
This is the github link https://github.com/KINGbabasula/u8500_kernel branch master
Anyone that wants to test the kernel in STOCK ROMS can find latest release here http://goo.im/devs/KINGbabasula/GalaxySAdvance , download the zImage and flash it with Universal Kernel Flasher by frapeti (maybe you'll need to rename it to kernel.bin
Credits:
Rox for updating some specific drivers

Well, he said you can use the commits ...
The provided kernel is for Stock Roms and I guess the guys who asked didn't want to build their own kernel

Me too. Same thing, now i'm restoring stock with odin. It appeared the samsung s advance written than bootloop.
Eeeem we can also use it with stock based roms right? Not only stock roms?
For flashing procedure; place the file on root of internal storage. Then choose file from this path
Code:
/mnt/sdcard/kernel.bin
Otherwise it will say succesful but it won't flash. At least it's for me.
I was choose this path in the past.It didn't flash
Code:
/storage/sdcard
Also symlink of internal storage wasn't working for me.

which rom you tried to install as second rom?
you know that syah kernel is discontinued and does not work with newer roms?
use instead googymax kernel (based on syah kernel), it is discontinued now as well, but at least it also supports the latest roms (except the ported note 2 rom kitkat rom)
or use devil kernel
or use arter97 kernel
for dualboot
