[Q] ZTE Warp 4G (Boost) failing to update OS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
First off, I'd like to point out that my rooted ZTE Warp 4G has been working fine ever since I bought it and rooted it with Framaroot. I also have SuperSU and Titanium Backup in use, but haven't had to touch it since the initial setup/root.
Model: N9510
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: N9510B01
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-svn8498 [email protected]
So basically, my phone is trying to force me to update my system software, the problem is, it downloads but when it tries to install it hangs at 25% or so and fails out. So I've been hitting cancel every time it re-tries but it comes back all the time. Not only that, Google Play Services has eaten a TON of my monthly data up because of this, over 1.3 GB (Background data), and I'm about to get throttled by Boost Mobile/Sprint.
I've found out online that I can stop further background data usage by Google Play Services by selecting it in the Data Usage screen and restricting it by selecting the check box. That is a temporary band-aid solution though, I need to get this issue resolved.
How can I update to the latest software (OS) so this problem will go away? Are other people experiencing this issue?

[Q] Touch the android to begin after battery drain - SGH-T989D

Model: SGH-T989D
Not Rooted, Stock version
Android version: 2.3.5
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.11
My Galaxy S II X (SGH-T989D) has been working great up until lastnight where after the battery was drained from normal usage and recharged i started up the phone and after startup logo the Touch the android to begin screen appeared... i touched the screen and it was asking to add a google account.. i said add later and found that my default account was still there and sync'd.
the phone was a bit laggy and all of a sudden i started to get " Sorry! the application ____ (process) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. (Force Close)
this same error continued to pop up for a number of apps that usually run by default.. going forward, any app i launched gave the same error...
Re-installing the apps that give this error seem to help.. but there are many apps with this error..
what is recommended? has anyone else had this issue?

[Q] Gfive G9 restart issues

Hello,
I have an MTK6589 phone GFive G9 phone with 4.2.1 Android version firmware custom added on the phone (not part of the settings coming with the phone). More information about the version is in the attached screenshot.
Generally, the phone is working fine but I have been experiencing issues with random restarts when using the phone. This happens approximately once a day, the phone freezes for around 10s and then restarts and continues working normally. I believe that this is relate do some of the apps I have installed on the phone, but I am uncertain which ones or if this assumption is correct.
I would like to get to the root of the problem, could you help me determine what is causing this issue?
Is there any log files that could help me with this or is the only way to go and start uninstalling random apps until I discover which is causing issues?
Is there any way to determine that the issue is not in the ROM itself?
Thank you,

Galaxy Core Prime SM-G3606

Hi guys, i recently bought this phone as my iPhone is malfunctioning. I was pretty contented with the phone overall. However, one aspect of it really ticks me off which is the RAM. Apparently, there's a constant 100mb-0mb Ram available for usage. So i ended up going online and search on how to speed up the RAM. I found a link that says by having a Custom ROM downloaded, it would remove all the bloatware and such. After progressing with the patches and installations, i was quite happy with it! Until the part where i couldn't access the Google Maps,Google Play store and every single time an error will pop out saying 'Google play services has stopped working'. I had work today and i would definitely need to use my phone to get me around (Delivery rider) therefore, i decided to call my supervisor and told him i had some issues with my phone. Earlier this morning, i've tried rooting using Kingo Root/Root Genius but to no avail. Both stucked in the process of it. I've tried flashing some other Core Prime's model ROM hoping that it would work. But guess what, it didn't . Now i have my Core Prime stucked at Odin Mode saying 'could not do normal boot'.
Any fellow experts willing to help me on this?
P.S I got to know that my phone was from an import after trying the factory reset. It's from China Unicom.

System Status: Custom
Everytime i tried to software update, it say 'The phone has been modified bla bla bla'

Do you have Cricket carrier by chance? I'm trying to find a stock or mod ROM for my sm-g360az ( Cricket Galaxy core prime) and the closest thing in official updates I could find is the sm-g3606 CHU region.. So I know my phone was made in China but I'm curious if that stock would work.

Help needed - I have an app which bricks my Samsung tablet when I try to install it

Now this is the weirdest thing I've ever encountered! I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet (n5110) which runs TWRP recovery and Resurrection-Remix-5.7.4 (CM13 based). Everything used to work beautifully until the end of July when an app called “EPB DVR Manager” (in the Play store) received an update. My tablet had to do a whole bunch of updates, so I gave it the “go” and Play Store started doing its thing, updating one app after the other.
At some point the tablet froze. Dead. Even the clock in the status bar stopped. I had to reset the device by pressing and holding power until it rebooted. The next thing was ... boot loop. It seemed to finish the boot animation and at the point when the main screen is supposed to show up it rebooted!
Tried to wipe dalvik & cache. No go, still boot loop. Had to format data to get the device back to life. From there it took me quite some hours of repeated tries of restoring 100+ apps and crashing the device all over until I figured out that it was this specific app - the “EPB DVR Manager”. After figuring out that this app causes the problem, I did two more attempts to confirm what is going on:
First, I did a wipe of dalvik, cache & data, reboot, android setup wizard (setup Google account). Then, as the first action at all, I tried to install the “EPB DVR Manager”. Boom - device messed up again.
Second, I reverted back to stock firmware (kitkat) and installed the “EPB DVR Manager” - no problem at all. So it has something to do with the Resurrection-Remix ROM, but here's the thing:
I have 3 different devices (a Moto G 3rd Gen, a LG GPAD 7.0 and that Samsung Note 8.0) and all three of them run Resurrection-Remix 5.7.4 and the Samsung is the only device which all in a sudden has these catastrophic problems with the latest version of this app (earlier versions installed/updated fine).
Now I understand that my devices run different kernels with different hardware drivers despite all of them running RR-5.7.4.
I would really like to get a clue about what the heck is going on here. Now before y'all are telling me that RR-5.7.4 is dead because it is based on CM13 - I know that. Still, RR-5.7.4 is a way better daily driver than the newer Nougat builds. So how should I try to get “live logs” because the problem always ends in a crashed installation and Android needs a full wipe to recover. I would like to find out what is going on to be able to let the app developer know about the problem (if the app's apk is at least partially to blame).
Even if it turns out that it is RR's fault (and therefore the bug will not be fixed because RR-5.7.4 is dead) I would still want to learn how such a simple transaction like installing an app can cause such a dramatic (and 100% reproducible) crash of Android's data partition.
Thanks for any suggestions on how to catch logging information for this kind of mystery.
Markus.

google maps crashing on 4.4.4. kitkat

Hello, i have a problem with samsung alpha on 4.4.4. kitkat. When i try to use google maps, if i click on directions and select car, application will crash. If i select bus, it will sometimes crash. If i select walking, it will never crash and normaly show path. If i upgrade application, it doesnt crash but instead locks up and heats the mobile phone a lot.
What i tried so far:
1) gps on/off, tried using only wifi/mobile data
2) tried all 4 versions of 4.4.4 for my country, first and latest update
3) it works fine on 5.0.2, though i want to remain on 4.4.4
4) tried resetting gps
5) tried rooting phone, uninstalling app completely and reinstalling it, doesnt help
6) tried like a 100 different stock roms from different countries and couldnt get a single 1 to work, they all fail or go into infinite boot loop
Please help me with my problem. I really like this phone and would hate it to leave a bad taste because if this 1 problem. Btw, the only roms that work for my phone are on the link below. I tried other links from my country (branded ones, not opened ones) and nothing works. I want to remain on stock rom btw.

Google maps does the same for me. It hangs when I click on 'directions'. I have a Samsung Galaxy ACE4 SM-G357FZ with Android 4.4.4. It started happening to me a few months ago. I thought it was because my phone has only 1GB RAM, and I removed or disabled every app that I don't use regularly, but it didn't help. I switched to Sygic GPS. It is better than google for walking, and it works OK for driving, but I miss not having the bus and subway schedules on google maps. I don't have the option of updating to 5. As far as I know, the last update was a Jan 2017 security update of 4.4.4. I have a Nexus 7 tablet. Updating it from Android 4.4 to 5 made it so slow it is useless.
" though i want to remain on 4.4.4"
why?
Try the workaround posted 7/6/19 here: support.google.com/maps/thread/9075511
Or reverting to previous version of the app posted 2/17/20 here: support.google.com/maps/thread/3592231
