Maybe we should petition Huawei for a stock 5.0... - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

We've all had various levels of frustrations regarding the Huawei overlay (for me, the battery saving options killing music apps no matter the settings). We saw how they reacted to the Kitkat cutoff; maybe we should start a petition for a stock L update?

I'm not having this problem on any of my 3 mate2 devices. got to be operator error.

As much as I'd love a stock ROM, I doubt it would work. It's like asking Samsung to do a stock ROM.
But since our phone's source is out and AOSP's source is out, we just need a developer with our phone to get Lollipop.

This phone will never get Lollipop.
Suuuuuuuuure, Hauwei claims it is coming. However isn't that the same song and dance that they said in regards to this phone and Kit Kat?
I will believe it when I see it. I would encourage everyone else to not hold their breath.

ur misinformed. Huawei never once said or claimed to update the mt2-l 03 to KK.

Won't matter to me...stock 4.3 is super stable, battery life is excellent and unless some app I want to use, requires 4.4 or above,
I'll stick with what it came with. Just because there is a "new" OS, doesn't make it better...JUST NEW.

I actually prefer 4.3 also. I hate how kitkat screws up the sd card with write security. I know that sd kitkat fix are available for rooted phones but I still have problem with it. If LL removes that restriction then maybe I will update to LL. Otherwise I would prefer to stick to 4.3.

They did to me. Before I bought it in early July, I had more than one support chat with Huawei reps confirming that it would be updated. Two different reps told me the same line - it was 4.3 at launch, and would be updated to KitKat within 60 days but they could not confirm a firm date. I wouldn't have bought it without that assurance.

My SD is tweaked as it is so I personally hope an update will fix it. Most of the time when using Root Explorer or any other, I cannot move filed from the SD card to internal storage or vise versa. Such as pushing an app to system/data (or app) or pushing a ringtone to system/media It shows as if there is no SD mounted however there clearly is because my music files and videos play just fine and they are on the card.

For some reason my SD card gets unmounted at times. I can't see the movies/pictures in it. I go to settings and i unmount and mount the sd card and then it's fine

Just out of curiosity, you don't have a text file called set_immutable_list anywhere in your system folder? There is one on the Chinese Mate 2's and whatever location is listed in the set immutable list file is blocked even if you have root. I have found a way around it, just sounds like the same problem I experienced before I found a fix.

I am 100% happy with 4.3 as well. I was very concerned with getting this phone, but the battery life sucked me in. I love the fact that I can basically do anything I want on my phone all day, and not need a charger. Everything works smooth and it is extremely stable. There is nothing I can't do with this phone, that I had done with KitKat or Lollipop. I think more companies need to look at what Huawei has done with this phone and follow their lead. Instead of going thinner, they should be concentrating on battery life. I have had phones with much better specs, but they weren't nearly as smooth. I think people worry too much about the OS.

Battery life is the most important factor for me these days in a phone , obviously with the implication that other aspects of the phone are also descent. I'm really baffled, bewildered, confused when someone buys a $600-$1000 phone when you can put up a very decent gaming PC for an equivalent amount with 10 times firepower. What bothers me is those reviewers criticizing the phone for not having a very high ppi or not achieving a certain benchmark score or not having a fingerprint reader etc when you won't be needing/using/noticing them anyway. In my opinion, the HAM2 is a very impressive phone; in fact one of the best along with 1+1 when it comes to getting more than what you're paying for. I have to say I'm surprised that the HAM7 doesn't seem to follow HAM2 pricewise !

Agree 100% Value for money is what I'm after. That and great battery life. HAM2 comes through on both.
Hardware, OS, pixel density isn't as important, IF it is designed, optimized correctly. Other than benchmark programs,
I've run my HAM2 against an N6, S5, and there MIGHT be a blink of an eye difference in launching and running apps.
Specs on phones have far outstripped the software's ability to take advantage of the horsepower.
Why anyone spends 700 or more on a device, when there are mid range alternatives, that perform as well, I just don't get
it.

Grab a phone with lollipop on it and you will see what youre missing. And even better battery life. My e970 gets about 25% better battery life. Not to mention the new capabilities. This phone with L on it would be nothing short of amazing..

We've just got to be patient and wait for Tom to make our dreams come true. At this point, I don't even care about the Huawei update. I asked them about it again today on Instagram and they said it still has a release date of the first half of this year (can you get any more vague?) and they'll share info with us once they get more information. Not very promising if you ask me.

Agreed 100%. Looking forward to it. I can see this phone going three or four days if he manages a lollipop build. Not putting any faith into Huawei. And having the CC version makes the chances even slimmer. Only donated a few times to developers. He will for sure be the next. Lost hope anyone would even try.

[Q] i9305 4.3 to 4.4? Is it possible?

Is it possible to update to CM11 nightly (or any other 4.4 roms... I'm not familiar with the scene) from 4.3 stock?
I did install KNOX, and then removed it. And then the Samsung service reflashed the rom again. So I don't know about it anymore. Didn't install it since then.
My story:
As many of you already did, I also installed the new update. Read below if you are interested (but you probably know all this anyway.)
So. A few days ago Google+ started to eat up my battery. I disabled it in the Application Manager and did not have the updates installed either. But it just started. My usual battery life dropped to only a couple of hours at max.
So I fired up Google and it said I have to install the updates. So I did.
Nothing changed. Then I went into Google+, signed in, and then signed out.
Nothing changed.
So all in all, I have a piece of crappy brick that I can't use anymore.
Bit of a rant: You gotta love this. You buy an overpriced product and they f... you over a thousand times. App makers, Samsung (4.3 crapdate), and EVEN Google. Then why the hell would I even want Android ever again? Seriously. If I would have to buy a phone now, I would pick an iPhone, no matter how much it costs more. This is just unjustifiable. "Hey customer, thanks for buying our product. Now let us make it all crap." ... WHY?
So yeah. Now I have no choice but to lose warranty (which I already used a few times because this is REALLY a crap quality phone). Not that HTC One X was any better, it had a faulty GPU/motherboard like 4 times. (Thanks Nvidia!) ... Sorry guys, I'm just infuriated.
Wish I could just change the phone down. I was thinking about Sony, but if Google can buttrape you anytime, why bother? No guarantee I can just fix it on Sony either.
CM10 is also fine
As I read the nightly can disable all GSM related operations (call/sms), so CM10 is also fine.
I just want to fix my battery life and have a stable phone again.

you should download your firmware from here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9305&pcode=0#firmware
wipe everything then go into download mode
Use Odin http://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-07/
and after you flash this, do a factory reset within the phone or through its recovery
I just did this with my wife's 9305 and its running like a champ

Thanks for the quick reply.
As I said my phone runs the 4.3 firmware now without any issue.
Except the 4.3 slow encryption and the huge battery drain. The phone got reset like 3-5 times in the past few weeks too.
So now I wonder if I can just install CM10 from 4.3.
But I need some confirmation as I know you cannot downgrade 4.3 for example. (Due to KNOX or whatever.)
Yeah should be no problem. My wife's battery drain happened too. I found the problem was with the SD card. I formatted it with the phone and it seems to be as good as it was on 4.12

Look you can go from any version of cm back to stock. CM doesn't change your boot loader or your modem. The only time your stuck on a version of android is when it comes to stock. Like as a note 3 users we are stuck on KitKat because they updated our bootlaoder. Cm based Roms it doesn't matter.
And you should get an SD card to hold your back ups just in case.
Also if someone helps you on xda it's kind of nice to hit the thanks button. It allow others to see that their comment was useful.
Good luck.
BTW if your new to rooted and ROM installing I suggest reading through the Dev section for the i9305.
Also google your issue word for word and there are tons of android forums out there which may help you.
A lot of times if you open a thread that has been answered a lot they will ignore it or throw words you won't like your way.
So good luck

Yeah if I'm not going to get an answer in a few hours I'll give it a go. It's a brick anyway, heh.
Just did my wife's i9305 today. Moving to cm/omni shouldn't be an issue, however be warned you lose a lot of features like HDMI out and the camera doesn't work as well. I just put the galaxy project ROM on there as the i9305 has the extra GB of ram which keeps stock nice and smooth, also you can debloat if the need be. And if you run into camera issues like I did simply flash stock kernel then reflash rom. Honestly unless you prefer KitKat its a waste of the extra ram your device has as most of it simply will never get used.
Also with wanam xposed you can customize everything! Can't do that with an iPhone. Sorry to hear you have had a bad run but while Samsung's software isn't exactly great the hardware is beast and once you learn how to configure it and unlock its full potential you will see you made the right choice.

Thanks for your reply!
- How worse will the camera get?
- What other important features you know? (HDMI does not really matter to me.)
I do use it a lot, so I don't want to lose everything. (Only use simple picture/HDR modes tho.)
Tried again every kind of combination with Google+ and it's still eating my battery like crazy.
I mean... what the hell is the "Disable" for then? It "almost disables" the app or what? lol.

If there is another update that isn't a major one (KK? fingers crossed) then it might require being updated to B148 first. Just a guess. It is a stretch to think we'll get another update to this phone though but we can't rule it out now that Huawei has come through with this minor update. It might be that since they mentioned a 4.4 KK update is coming when the phone came out that this update we just got would be a test run for the whole process. That's thinking optimistically. Realistically, I have no idea but would be happy if we continued to get updates (any at all) on our HAM2's.
Low light photography . Usually when you take a pic in low light it tends to darken the background too much . This update helps in that department . Plus , these updates provide an overall better stability to the system , the "misc. fixes" (No detailed description) they put at the end of the description should not be overlooked . They test the device thoroughly at their office and made the small needed changes . Even though you might not think it's a lot . Always better to stay updated . If it wasn't necessary nor improved the experience they would not have pushed the update out at all . My two cents . Update !
Well I was going to put in my 2 cents but you two said it all. If you made it all the way to the XDA website and was able to register and post something onto form your more then capable of upgrading to the new SYSTEM UPDATE. Plenty of people went ahead of you already and another thread was created for that. Everyone is having success with the B418 update.
The camera was rubbish in low light, and now it runs much smoother. Not iPhone or Android flagship smooth, but good enough.
And again, everyone else said pretty much all there is to say!

Why upgrade from any software? What was wrong with Android 4.1? it runs everything. The manufacturer of the phone put in the money to update and push out the update for a reason. Not spyware. My phone has the update and i just hit the 48 hour mark and I still have 18%
Is B148 really an "upgrade"? Have any impactful improvements been noted?
If I hadn't rooted my phone I would install the update. But considering the lengthy process due to my root, I'm going to wait for the KitKat update.

I know I can't prove it but I just want it to be posted that before when I was on System Software B126 MightyText did not work when the screen was off. Even when I had it on protected apps and wifi on when the screen is off while charging. I had to keep my screen awake while I was using the app. Now after the update B148 I no longer have to do that. I was also having some problems with dropbox syncing when my phone is off and that is also fixed. So the "other fixes" in the system update. The stuff that they didn't mention is the reason why you should update. Actually since I have had the update my phone has been running very smooth. Everything just works when you click it.. Weirddd....

[Q]Verizon Ellipsis 8 QTAQZ3

Hello all,
Starting a thread to see if there is out there in XDA who happened to pick up the Ellipsis 8 yesterday for Black Friday?
I bought my Mom a smartphone finally being she was stuck with old tech and never owned a smart phone so I got her the Sony Xperia Z3v. She is overly excited.
Anyways, they gave us for free Quanta Ellipsis 8 QTAQZ3, and I have attempted the following to get root access;
1) Kingo Root
2) TowelRoot
3) Framaroot 1.9.3
Neither one of these options provided root. Upon digging up threads on XDA, I found that the older Ellipsis 7 was able to get rooted with both Kingo Root and Framaroot.
I am glad we have more interest in this tablet. I would like custom roms, but to at least root it. I actually got three of these yesterday. I have tried almost everything to root as well.

I tried all three listed above as well with no success. I would be eternally greatful for anyone who can help with rooting this device since Verizon was so keen on giving them out like candy on Black Friday.
I picked one up, havent really looked for any methods. Its been a pretty good device thus far.
I think what people need to look for in the software is some bugs like how every other root method works... i know My Verizon requests su when its first run, but anyways, this would probably be the best place to look.

You can get rid of most of the VZW bloat without root, using the app manager.
I would like to see a decent custom AOSP ROM for this thing.
Seems to perform about as well as the original Nexus 7, but the screen isn't as sharp or vivid... the colors are a bit washed out and bland looking, IMHO.

Honestly i dont mind. For me its better than my ****ty Tab 4 that i had before it, so it works lol.
The only thing i wish is to gain root to put the nav buttons on the sides when rotated, but we havent obtained root yet.
Also multiwindow would be awesome.
Hopefully Someone Gets It!
I am hoping that one of our amazing Devs here on XDA will figure this out. I want root so I can get the full performance out of Tasker. Plus a few other things like a full debloat and such. I would have no problem making a donation to the Dev who figures this out lol.

Well, disabling is as good as deleting. Deleting them saves a small amount of space, a few MB... You have an SD slot, add more storage cheaply...
It is a basic tablet. I would never have bought such a tablet, but for free, what the hell, makes a nice news reader and stuff when lying in bed.
When I want a real tablet I do have a Dell Venue 11 Pro that works really well.
I am going to keep looking and digging all weekend. There has to be a way to get this rooted. I know my brother in law rooted the Ellipsis 7 with Framaroot. But, none of the versions have worked. I know it is due to the newer build of Kitkat. It just takes time for someone to find the exploit.

Unless someone creates an AOSP or faster ROM for this device, I just don't see what Root will actually do for us... I mean, saving 50MB of storage or whatever by removing a few apps that can be disabled without Root, doesn't seem like much incentive to a Dev, you know?
If we could get AOSP with a lean and fast kernel or something, I would be all over that like Richard Simmons on a Cub Scout, but I just don't see that happening...

I have not used TI... I never really have anything to backup... I mean my pics and stuff I back up to my PC, everything else is in the cloud... when I get a new phone or hard reset one, install a ROM, etc... My stuff restores from the Play Store so I never really have to do much other than a few tweaks and set up my launcher and home screens the way I want...
Never used ad block either, but I am sure that all the ROMs I have used over the years probably had that built in...
I just wish the tablet was a bit snappier... I think a smaller footprint and a faster kernel in an AOSP ROM would help, but that's probably all you can do for these things....

Well titanium backup does back up your apps and games. But the difference is when you restore them it restores all data (like launcher layout) and settings like levels in games or app preferences. This will also backup and restore stuff you didn't get from the play store. Last time I checked the play store only restores app and not data.
Ad blocking would speed the tablet up a bit online. Also the tweaks you can do after rooting would increase performance greatly.

Well titanium backup does back up your apps and games. But the difference is when you restore them it restores all data (like launcher layout) and settings like levels in games or app preferences. This will also backup and restore stuff you didn't get from the play store. Last time I checked the play store only restores app and not data.

I was about to respond to the other member but you made all the points I had to make haha. I 100% agree. I need root on this thing so I can run TB, Xposed, AD Away, Root Explorer, Debloat FULLY and not just disable, and a plethora of other things root is good for. Bottom line is it doesn't matter what the reason, ALL Android devices are better with root!

So who still checks this Forum ? ( ********* PLEASE READ ******** )

I know this device is old.. its the only one I have right now and have no clue if i'd ever get the money to upgrade.. just curious how many people still check this forum or if i'm one of the only few...
Also if you are a typical visitor.. maybe post up so I can get to know this Note II community.
Thanks!
interesting.. 10 views already and no votes or posts... lol..
i see it has 23 views.. and 2 responses. Great! so there is still some life here. Are any developers still here?
I still use this device for gaming only. I play Underworld Empire via WiFi/mobile hotspot. Have multiple toons in the games . It is rooted and running TeamOctos MM weekly build rom.
I use my old Note II as a training device for my 6 year old. The thing is a tank.

thanks guys for responses! So i'm guessing there aren't anymore developers still working on this phone?
Not sure if there is any that hangs around this forum. TeamOctos has their rom on their own website, I'm glad they still make weekly builds for this phone. Runs pretty smoothly for me.

First Off, thanks for the response!
Second, Yeah i would love to go with a newer weekly build and version of android.. .. but I just really like to have screen options to turn screen off, bring up power menu, and have options for screenshot and screen record. I had forgotten about the power of XPosed Framework ( which R3D utilizes ) and perhaps that could help make OCTos more useful for me..
I also do like some of the touchwiz features that I can use with the S-Pen.. so i'm torn.. LOL
I have xposed installed along with TeamOctos, gravity box mm module installed. Since TeamOctos rom have most of the features, I scantily use the gravity box options. Don't wanna break anything lol. I find the s-pen was more a gimmick than anything else. The capacitive buttons don't work with the pen, have to manually press with finger (this was fixed with the Note 3, which I sold). Also there are 3rd party apps that can do just about the same as the Samsung spen apps.

yeah i was using that for a little bit.. but I noticed the overall sound volume seemed to be lower... when I went back to 4.4.2 , i could really hear the difference... i'm not sure if that is a AOSP issue or what.. do you notice it?
Yes unfortunately it is because of AOSP. I remember having to manually editing a mixer.xml file to increase the volume but still wasn't close to the sound level of TW rom. I got use to the low lvls after a while.
Now I don't use it as my daily driver so sound isn't really an issue anymore. Performance and battery life is what I'm looking for so it's ideal.

Ahh ok thank you. that makes me feel a lot better to know it wasn't just me that noticed it and that it wasn't directly related to my phone or my flash status...
so I guess its not an easy fix or even possible since it wasn't addressed when this phone was still being developed... darn..
I really don't recall what the reasoning was, if it was due to drivers or software. It can be remedied by editing the sound file, I believe someone has done it with this phone. Do a post search for low sound or mixer.xml on here.
Haha not trying to sell AOSP roms or anything but I find them more useful with their options. Isn't that the main reason people use Android phones, for their customization?

HA yes.. but i guess for those of us that don't have multiple phones to try out different ROMs and updates :silly: constantly have to find the happy medium between stability, functionality and customization.. Right now i'm gonna stick with TW 4.4.2 (at least on my Note II) since I need to have these things on my phone for me to use it as a daily driver:
1. Stable (won't freeze up / random reboots / random power offs / FC'ers)
2. Camera - Camera must be able to take great photos (at least as good as the physical camera is)
3. Sound - Must have great sounding audio for voice calls / speakerphone / ringtones and for media watching
4. Functional - Must be able to not miss calls / notifications or messages and connect to data for internet
5. Battery - Battery must be decent to good.. want it to be able to last at least 1 day of medium to heavy use..

You are correct there. I could not find it either myself. I wonder if TeamOctos even included it in their build for this phone. I checked with another phone of mine (LG G3) thats running the same ROM. It has the mixer_paths.xml in the folder system/ETC. May have to contact them to find out why... Sorry, like I've mentioned, I don't use my Note II as a daily driver so haven't had the need to increase the sound levels. I wonder if its possible to just copy the file from another ROM?

yeah i thought about that but nervous with all that modifications either messing something up or not even getting it as loud as TW..
right now i think ill stay with a 4.4.2 rom and use xposed to get the features i like. do wish i had 6.0 but have to be happy with what i got. ?
Sorry I couldn't have been more helpful. Hope things will look up for you and that you may be able to afford a newer phone. This years phone releases haven't been all the great, maybe next year will see some really great improvements. The biggest thing is the battery life in most cell phones nowadays (unless you have removable option). Manufacturers will never give you a better battery/longer life because they want consumers to keep buying newer phones. Batteries usually only have a lifetime of about ~1.5 years, the more you charge, the less it will hold a charge. Forces people to buy new phones

yeah true.. and for me its difficult because i'm fairly picky with what I want in the phone... seems like i haven't actually found a "perfect" one yet... several will have 80 to 90% but some will be missing 1 major thing i want.. and then i have to decide how important that is... So far from all the phones i had.. I think my Nexus 5 would probably me my all time favorite... of course I would have preferred an AMOLED display, front facing speakers and better cameras... but again.. had to pick and choose... the HTC 10 was amazing as well.. but I did have some issues with my LTE signal dropping.. so not sure if it was a fluke or because of my Total Wireless service? maybe the ROM.. idk.. LOL
Hmm favorite all time, may have to go with my Note 3 til I sold it. Had it with Verizon, unfortunately the bootloader was locked and when I updated to Jasmine rom, screwed up and lost root. It was a great phone, s pen is so useful, removable battery, amoled display, SD card slot. Camera was alright, my V10 excels in that department! I'm with T-mobile now, service is great for where I need it and their phones are mostly bootloader unlocked. Can easily root them.
Watching Floss Carter on YouTube, with his review of HTC 10. His biggest negative factor is that the phone is too small for him. Everything else is good, he even mentions that HTC should've made two options like HTC 10 and 10+.
His top 5 phones:
1: Note 5
2: Nexus 6p
3: iPhone 6s+
4: S7 edge
5: LG G5

Question Is the Xperia 5 IV worth it, even after root?

Right now I'm struggling really hard to find a new phone I want, and realistically none meet my standards due to low battery, or bad camera specs and software support. However I keep finding myself wanting the Xperia line of phones, and I strangely really want to get this phone but I hear and know of many cons already. Heating issues, and in a year or two it's going to lose software support right?
However would rooting it, or people who have rooted the phone solve the issues regarding the phone themselves? Like was the os optimized better for thermals, or is there a good line of custom roms that can securely update the phone that way instead? Was it worth it to go through the hassle, or is bricking a strong issue and unable to be dealt with.
Cuz honestly I just want a decent phone of 5000MAH, great camera, and good dual speakers tbh. It'd be cool if it'd come with a headphone jack too, and if micro sd was an option but honestly I only use about 80gb of storage anyway.
101% i love my with root

Mind telling me what you did that fixed the stock flaws? I got my heart set on one of the Xperia phones lol. Tje 1V looks amazing but I wanna wait for the 5V at the same time too lol
5v wont be relased until september or maybe later.. they tend to follow yearly schedule
and if u like the notification LED better hurry caus i red some information about its no longer at the X1 V
and if this happens 8 bet same will happen at the X5 V
I haven't needed to fix any flaws really, but still rooted to remove bloat, block ads, access app data, improve privacy etc.

ShatteredSpider exactly this! I've done all that and tbh so far (4 months), have not an issue to shout about. Perhaps its by removing the bloat, thoough very little compared to some phones, having a rooted ad-blocker makes my phone run flawlessly so far without no crazy heat issues. Of course there have been some official updates, mostly security but they may have tinkered around with the initial heating issue too. Battery life is great, magisk+modules run perfectly and banking apps work fine too. So far, my best and easiest rooted phone experience so far with some great cameras/software, plus I've got Gcam/revanced running too as a plus. New phone sensor does sound great, not sure I need to jump to it, especially as gcam night images work pretty well for me and even for general snappy images.
@davestuarts Was there anything root-related that you had to do to get GCam working properly? I had a hard time with it initially though it did take pictures and then it stopped working entirely, possibly due to a system update.

I don't think Gcam technically requires root, there's nothing I can remember that suggests it, as I remember testing Gcam when I first had the phone and was untouche/not rooted.
I've had Gcam 8.1 installed since (with a profile) and it's been running fine, mostly photos and occasionally videos.
I've updated the rom about three times, though manually as it's rooted, but Gcam continues to work. I've tested other versions of Gcam but they either didn't work or crashed. That's all I can say. Any further questions, I'll try and answer if I know.

Oooo please send what kind of photos you take on the phone, i wanna see the quality!! To me it seems like the perfect mid tier phone, but I wanted to see the stock photos, pro photos and possible gcam but haven't reliably seen results only a few reviews. I also wanna try to work it into being a professional webcam when I'm home for motion tracking but afraid of bad quality?
