I have used TowelRoot on my Galaxy TabPRO and it worked perfectly (didn't even trip KNOX).
May be worth a try for you as it is just an app to install and needs no connection to PC.
HOW TO ROOT WITH TOWELROOT
Developed By: geohot
Go to http://towelroot.com
Click on the red Lambda symbol to download the towelroot.apk
Install towelroot.apk on your device
Open the app
"make it ra1n"
You are now rooted! But need to follow a couple more steps.
Install Chainfire's SuperSU from the Play Store
Open SuperSu and let it update the su binary
When it asks if you would like to disable Knox, SAY YES!
Taken from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793071

i tried this one.. but it says that my phone is not suported..

There is no method of rooting without a computer for us.
Try cleaning the usb port on the phone.

Use the Samsung drivers for mobiles that ends in .45.

Issues flashing stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace

Hi
So, I have a samsung galaxy ace, which I haven't used for a while now. I decided its time to sell it. Problem is I flashed a custom rom (cyanogenMod 9) on it back then and it is also rooted. Before I sell it I need to unroot it and flash the stock rom back on. (Phone is working fine and is bootable)
So far I have unrooted it. As for flashing the stock rom, I'm having issues.
I have downloaded various versions of Odin (4.38, 4.34, 1.87), but none of them seem to detect the phone on my PC. I have downloaded the usb drivers and my PC itself seems to detect that its connected, but not Odin. I have Kies installed and have made sure it is not running through task manager.
So, can anyone PEASE help me with this. I'm not too familiar with Odin either, so I don't want to accidentally brick my phone.

Might be worth pointing out that I am running Windows 8 on my PC.
And my phone has cyanogenMod 7 not 9.
Also, I have just started receiving an error message when connecting the phone. It will charge it fine through the usb cable, but when in download mode it started giving the error message: USB device not recognised.

Try reinstalling the drivers. Download Android SDK and install the "Google USB drivers" package.

I had this problem too the first time i tested Odin to see if it would detect my device. Make sure you're using a main USB port on the back of your computer, not any on the front/sides/ monitor etc. You might have to remove the USB and insert it a couple of times before it detects your device then it should install the required drivers allowing the device to be detected. I also did not use Kies for the drivers but downloaded a standalone installation package that you can find by searching in the forums.

If windows is showing not recognise error in one port, it will most probably show it always like this
Try different port and reinstalling drivers with phone connected helps

Hello guys,
I have Galaxy S4 I9500, I have rooted this phone many times, but since i removed root and i update to 4.4.2. I cannot root it with ODIN, ODIN reads my phone normally, but when i enter in Download Mode(Odin Mode) Odin application in my computer doesnt recognize my phone.
I tried to change the cables, i tried in a different computers, i tried to chang the prots of usb cable in computer and its the SAME PROBLEM.
I would appreciate really if smbd would help me

P.S. in Download Mode I can see Samsugn Official, Official Version, Knox Warranty: 1
Hi,
It's kinda weird that ODIN isn't recognizing your device, KNOX wouldn't be a problem there. You said you tried different cables, different USB ports and different computers, but did you try a different ODIN version? It may be the main cause of your issue.
By the way, for further help with more experienced people I recommend you checking this thread:

[Q] Root when phone is not detected

Hello everyone, I could not find a good title for my issue but I will try to explain as well as I can. I own a GT-I9300 (International), but since last official Samsung's firmware update(Jelly Bean 4.3) I am not able to get my phone recognized by my computer. Phone is connected and it charges, but neither Windows or Ubuntu recognizes it as a portable device. I am concerned about UMS is not available on device, but my phone it does not even get detected! I also own a Galaxy SII (4.1.2) and it does get detected by my PC. I think that flashing a custom ROM could solve the problem, since it appeared when I updated official firmware, but the thing is that I cannot root my phone! Tried ODIN but since my phone does not get detected, ODIN does not do its job. I also tried rooting with framaroot and towelroot, but no success: first one says "Failed , try another exploit" but there is only one. And the last one says my phone is not currently supported, even if I change modstrings.
So here is my question: how do I root my phone? I don't know what else I could try. I have already reinstalled Kies and Samsung USB drivers but still not working. Also hard-resetted but no luck.
Hope you guys can help me out because this is really getting on my nerves
Thanks in advance!

The thing is that my phone is the only one that do not get detected every single time I connect it. I have already connected one GT-I9100 and GT-S6790L and both get detected. I already tried on 3 different Virtual Machines with Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 8.1 but no luck.
As I said in the first post, I think it's a firmware problem since it appeared when I did the official update, which was this one:
Model GT-I9300
Model name GALAXY S III
Country Argentina
Version Android 4.3
Build date Wed, 05 Nov 2014 20:33:08 +0000

I can see your frustration Now a few things technically it is a misconception that you need root to flash a custom rom you can actually flash a custom recovery with Odin full wipe and then flash a custom rom from custom recovery (only thing is you will lose all your data because you need root to back up your data)
Now I know the above statement is not very helpful because as you said Odin doesn't detect it (but I thought I would mention it anyway )
The reason framaroot and towelroot, didn't work is because at the moment the only way to root S3 is with Odin.:crying:
You may have tried this but I will mention it anyway first uninstal Kies and all Samsung drivers from your computer ( kies can interfere with Odin) Then try installing these drivers here >> http://developer.samsung.com/techni...Lhp1GqlWRy92Q60CX6PP1mF!80806326?v=T000000117 << If you have tried this then sorry.
Also when you connect the phone go to Device manager in Windows and try to look for your device ( it may say unkown device) it should have a warning triangle right click on it select update driver software and then select browse from my computer and point to the drivers that you have downloaded see if that works.
Another thing to note is if you are using Windows 8 you need to disable Driver signature in start up options ( Google it) for Windows to recognize the drivers.

I already tried uninstalling Kies and Samsung drivers. Also I tried looking for device on Device Manager but it does not appear when I plugin my S3, but it does appear when I connect other devices like S2 or Galaxy Fame Lite. They appear as portable devices.
I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have already tried with different OS over Virtual Machines and still doesn't work.
And thanks for that note, didn't know there was possible to flash a Custom Recovery without root, but I can't since ODIN doesn't detect device :crying:
Then it looks like you are running out of options I would use another computer not Virtual Machines
Okay I'll give it a try but as I said before, looks like an firmware issue, not computer's. Why would my computer detects two another Samsung devices but not mine (which used to work until last update)
Me, too!
I'm having a similar problem. Last week my GS3 stopped working, and I bought another one from Ebay with a cracked screen and swapped out motherboards. The phone seems to work as well as a stock Verizon phone on Jellybean would, but I can't get my Linux, Win 8, or Win XP computers to even recognize that it's attached. Different cables, each and every one of the USB ports, not even a blip. Device Manager in Windows doesn't even see it, and yes I got the developer options unlocked and have enabled USB debugging.
I've got the Samsung drivers installed, and tried to install the CWM device drivers from the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V9, but there was an error and that didn't work, either.
USB connection issues are usually due to Windows conflicts, driver problems or the lead itself. If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

I'm 100 percent sure that it is not due a Windows issue, I have already test every option. I have not considered the usb port to be damaged or worn, which could be possible but phone charges every time I connect it to computer. It just does not get detected as a device. But in order to assume it is a motherboard issue I will have to put away my feeling that the problem is caused by last OTA official update, since this problem started there.
If it is a firmware update issue, is it any option to flash another ROM?

As I said on previous posts, I have already installed and reinstalled Samsung USB drivers and made a factory reset -one from config. option and another one from Android stock recovery 3e (since I cannot install any advanced recovery -or even root it- to flash a custom rom). Doing those factory reset did not downgrade my last firmware update (when all my problems started).
I also said on previous posts that I tried towelroot and framaroot with no success. As tallman43 says, seems like international version of S3 does not support those kind of one-click to root apps.
-----------------------------------------------------
So far the only options available (if my theory about latest firmware update is the problematic one) are:
● downgrade firmware: [Q] How? Odin is not working since my phone does not get detected;
● root my phone in order to install an advanced recovery and flash a new ROM: [Q] Any way of rooting phone without computer (apart from towelroot or framaroot because I have tried and do not work for me)? I read one XDA post from 2 years ago to root S3 via console apk but latest comments assumes that method stopped working.
● install an advanced recovery without odin or root: [Q] How?
● fix USB firmware issue: [Q] I have completely no idea how to do it. (Already played with *#7284# and *#0808# but did not get my phone detected)
Please I need help, this is really irritating me and I am running out of ideas

I guess I have found out what the problem was. It was not firmware (as I thought). It was the micro USB port (as boomboomer said) which seems to not be firmly attached to the PCB. AC charging just seems to work okay, but not USB connections. I managed to figure it out by forcing the USB in a specific position to get it detected for 5 seconds, but then it disappeared.
Yeah, it was not as complex as I thought! I will try to replace that micro USB port as soon as possible, thanks everyone for your help!

Okay, you should DEFINITELY check Device Manager and double check that you have the Samsung USB drivers installed. If you have then try the following and let me know if it works:
1. Put the phone in download mode.
2. Launch Odin3 v1.85 (download this version and try it please)
3. Connect your GS3 to a different USB slot than you normally use.
I know the basic troubleshooting sounds very boring, and you've most likely tried the above already, but do give it a go and let me know.

I agree. Windows 10 may not play ball. Try different drivers and/or a pc with an older version of windows. You must reboot the pc each time you change drivers or it won't detect the phone. Use only the usb ports on the motherboard.

Any way to root S3 without a PC?

Since windows can't recognize my galaxy S3, I'm thinking of rooting it without connecting it to the computer.
Are there any method that can grant root AND custom recovery without using a computer?
@TrojanHorses:
1. If Windows doesn't recognize your S3, try another cable, an USB-port on motherboard, deinstall all Samsung-crap and get Odon fresh from sammobile.com.
2. If you had entered your question in search, you'd got fe this thread

Tried to use a different cable, and also different computers, all cannot recognize my s3. Other phones work fine though. Did a reinstall of samsung usb drivers and also reinstall/uninstall kies. I'm fairly certain that it must be a hardware problem
Sadly, framaroot doesnt work.
@TrojanHorses: if you connect after having booted normally into system, does it charge?
You have samsung usb 6 pin ? Others are 5 pin, i buyed galaxy s3 and usb cable in box didnt working in odin, i create myself and now work
KingRoot should do the trick.
No computer required.
I used KingRoot to root and now I have CM13 and TWRP installed properly.
(If this helped you ? Leave a thanks!)
