[Q] Return to stock? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hello,
Im currently s-on, unlocked, and running the viper rom. But now I have the purple tint bug and need to go back to stock for a replacement. Being s-on, since firewater is discontinued, i'd prefer not to have to spend 25$ to return a phone. The firmware it came with is the latest, and I don't remember it off the top of my head. Unfortunately I no longer have my backup of stock in my twrp folder so I can not go that route. Anyone know what I can do in this situation? I don't mind it still saying unlocked/relocked, just want it to be as close to stock as possible.
Thanks

If you on 5.x firmware use this
Guru_Reset_M7_5.12.502.2_clsA.zip
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358545274
in the setup choose yes to stock recovery and radio and no to root and don't root when you exit twrp

I NEED HELP! Want to go back to stock.

I just got this evo 4g lte the other day in a really good trade (straight from an 8gb iPhone 4, I know right!) Anyway the phone had a codename android rom on it (CM10 based) and I wanted to flash it back to something close to stock as my intension was to sell the phone since i don't have sprint. So the first thing i did was go into TWRP 2.2.1 and factory reset. I then installed Mean ROM ICS. When i rebooted the phone would not pull past the boot animation for the rom. I tried flashing a couple other roms with no success and last one i flashed was mean rom again. I also tried to use the 2.13 RUU to get back to stock but it wont work because i can't boot in to android . Next i had the bright idea that if the phone was relocked that it would start the RUU for the bootloader that i can still access. Well guess what, that didnt work! (duh)
As of now, the phone has a relocked bootloader (I know how to unlock again if i need to), is S-ON and using HBOOT 1.19. I would just really like to flash it back to stock but i am now very frustrated and lost and i am supposed to sell the phone to someone for $275 today.
Any help is much appreciated!
When you flash the Rom you flash the kernel separate since your S-on. Follow the directions on how to flash in the OP for the Rom and you'll be good to go

[Q] Flashed without making backup of my DNA

I am S-Off, unlocked and rooted as off yesterday via moonshine (windows version) and got excited last night and flashed a rom using clockwork mod recovery WITHOUT making a backup first (got excited about flashing and ignorantly forgot to backup.) My phone works but i like having my phone as close to stock, except for s-off, unlocked and rooted. I was wondering if there is a .zip or something i can use to get back to stock DNA? I seen a stock ROM to flash but the radio wont flash with it without locking the phone back and i was hoping to get by without locking it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you like stock, why did you flash a new ROM? Anyway, check out the Android Development or Original Android Development forums, they should have a stock rom posted. If not, ask around. I'm sure someone has a backup they can post.
There are stock rooted ROMs in the Dev forum

[Q] Updating firmware with RUU - Recommended or no big deal

So i just got my One yesterday and it still has the .7 firmware / rom on it. I am going to root it and s-off right now, but just wondering a couple things.
1. Can or should i use an ruu to update the firmware to the more recent versions?
2. If yes, will this make me lose root or s-off? (i would imagine root would be easy enough to get back as long as i still have s-off)
thanks!!
At the moment, unless the situation has changed, there isn't an RUU for the TMo HTC One. One was released the other day, but it didn't work and HTC pulled the download. For now, I'd wait a couple of days to see if they release a fixed version. Your only other option would be to flash the .ZIP with the updated radio after going S-OFF.

Ah.. ok. That makes sense. I downloaded one that was labeled for TMO, but i will just wait until it all gets sorted out. I am not to concerned about the radio, those are always easy to flash. Was wondering if there was anything else in the firmware i needed (like when the one s got jellybean there was WIFI partitions that needed to get flashed for everything to work properly)
For anyone else that is searching for this answer, here is what i ended up doing and it worked well.
My phone came with the .7 build install (this was the very first build before any updates). I rooted, and went s-off BEFORE ANY OTA's we taken. At this point i still had the original stock rom, it was just rooted. Since I always like to at least try the newest firmware out (cause you never know what benefits it may have) I flashed the STOCK TMO recovery back onto the phone.
Now you can boot into your OS, and go through the normal OTA process that you would get in any unrooted rom. Once those updates are complete you will be on the latest firmware and ROM from TMO, but no root access. Since you still are S-OFF, you have no problems here, flash TWRP back on (or CWM, i prefer TWRP) and flash whatever you want.
Hope that helps someone else that may be looking for the same answers.

Would you mind linking the T-mobile stock recovery that you flashed? I'm in about the same situation you were in.
FYI, there is a working TMOUS RUU available now, you can download it through the following link. I downloaded it yesterday and used it last night, I can confirm it works.

There is no RUU for either 3.16 or 3.17. If you were S-off you could use Viperboy's VipeRUU tool, which will put you back totally stock. Captain Throwback posted a link somewhere around here regarding how to go back to stock. If I find it I'll post it up for you. In the meantime, the easiest thing for you to do would be to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP recovery so that you have a working phone.

Thanks I was hoping to find a RUU, but now I have unlocked it again backed up rom with TWRP and trying to get Moonshine or RumRunner to work. No luck yet getting S-off
If you're on the 3.16 OTA use Moonshine; for the 3.17 OTA use Rumrunner.

Use stock rooted ROMs only
I am trying to do the same, and my phone is the same (Rooted, unlocked, S-on, TWRP, Mean Bean). I need to get back to stock to reactivate my phone with Sprint (long story). Can I flash a stock ROM with TWRP?

I actually did, but I don't have a data connection. The manager at the Sprint Store (who is actually a good friend of mine) said it won't activate data unless I'm on a stock ROM and can use the "activate this device" function under "phone info". Not sure if he's correct on that, but I can't get data, and need to go back to stock to see if it works...
Then flash one of Captain Throwback's stock rooted ROM's. You do not have to be "stock" to get your phone working again-you just need a Sense ROM.

easy as pie! Once I installed the stock ROM and activated the device I had 4G right away. Did a nandroid, reinstalled Mean, then reinstalled from my Mean back up and now I'm cooking with fire. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
FWIW - My friend was partially right, you do have to be on a stock ROM to reactivate data service, but you DO NOT need to unroot.
To piggy back off this, I'm planning to turn in my EVO 4G and move onto the Sprint One Up program...if I'm rooted on CM10.2 (still S-ON) though...how much effort do I need to put in for Sprint to accept my phone?

From what I have read some people have returned phones with them being rooted/unlocked and multiple roms and there has not been a issue. I guess worst they can say is no. Then go home return it to stock and try again.
Or just return to stock and take it in.
My purpose for the Original thread was I am going to sell mine and I just wanted to sell it stock. I sold my first Android Hero way back and it had been rooted and flashed and the person I sold it to had issues getting it activated through sprint. They sent it back to me for refund and I returned it to stock and sold it like that and the person who bought it was a ex sprint employee and he was upset I flashed it back to stock saying the person should have and zero issues activating it. Now he had to root and flash it himself. I just find it easier to return it to stock myself and sell it,
Then I know no matter if a basic or advanced user buys it they can activate it.
Hope that helps

[Q] On GPE 4.4.4 - Can't S-Off - Can't go back, Can't go forward?

I have an ATT M8 that is currently running Philz and SkyDragon GPE 4.4.4 (1.58.x). At this time I've been unsuccessful in achieving S-Off, Firewater says "whelp", I've tried WeakSauce and the "copy something to sdcard" work-arounds, and Sunshine says I need to Stock in order to run the exploit.
So it appears that without S-Off, I cannot go back to stock, I cannot go forward to 5.0.1, and I cannot OTA. Is that correct? Am I missing something?
Thanks, ...v

Well without S-OFF your not fully converted to GPE so you can most definitely just flash back to stock with a stock backup of your own or from the stock backup collection thread or even a stock based Rom and than try out Sunshine apk

There are several misunderstandings here:
You can OTA fine with s-on. But you need to have stock ROM and stock recovery. But the latest software the AT&T versions will currently OTA to is Android 4.4.2.
You can flash any ROM you want with s-on, including older stock ROMs.
You can return to stock with AT&T RUU, as long as the hboot version of the RUU is the same or greater than what is on the phone.
Stock ROM and stock kernel are best for firewater. If you still get the "whelp" message after a few tries with this configuration, you phone is patched for firewater, and you need to use sunshine.
Sunshine should work on any current or past AT&T M8. But you need return to stock ROM as indicated.

I was specifically thinking about an OTA from GPE v4.4.4 to GPE v5.0.1, since my phone keeps prompting me about it. Sorry about that, I should have been more clear.
So, the ROMs that state you need to have S-OFF, is this because they are replacing firmware as well? Perhaps this is where my misunderstanding is.
That makes sense. I appreciate your time.
...v
You mentioned thinking that you couldn't flash back to stock cause your not S-OFF right?
So I assumed you think you must be fully converted ,sense you don't have S-OFF it is very simple to just flash a stock sense based Rom or use a backup to restore back the way it was.
So go to the development section and find a stock rooted Rom and then run Sunshine apk and pay the $25 so you can gain S-OFF

If you are custom ROM and custom recovery, you do not want to perform an OTA, period.

Close, but not quite. A ROM will not install firmware (hboot, radio, WiFi and media modules, etc.), and firmware is a separate thing from a ROM. If a ROM says you need s-off, its probably means you need to update firmware manually (separately from the ROM). But technically, AFAIK no ROMs really "require" s-off, at least not to flash. They will flash fine and boot fine, but may have broken WiFi due to firmware mismatch. Some may consider this a "requirement" (as the ROM isn't fully functional with mismatched firmware), but its really a more complicated issue than just saying "s-off required".
If you see a ROM that specifically says s-off required, it may be that the dev is just covering themselves. But you can link the ROM and I can take a look, if you like.
