Try another lead or pc, if Odin doesn't connect to a phone in download mode then nothing will happen.

Try using another USB port. It usually works when you do that.

I recently purchased a used S3 and wanted to clear previous owners data so I performed a factory reset, unfortunately the phone never came back on even after removing the battery. When I press power home and volume down phone goes to recovery but it is in chinese, I can see restore from SD card but when I do it it says cant mount from SD card, have I toasted the phone or is there a way to recover, I am a complete NOOB so if you can help please keep it simple.PS I called Samsung serviceand they said I would have to send the phone to Hong Kong as they would not service it here in the USA
download a ROM from the forum and try flashing via ADB in your computer.

the phone goes into recovery mode.
Can you not go into download mode?
If so just get the latest Firmware ( only the latest available on Kies ) from Sammobile and flash it with Odin, then go in recovery and do factory reset and clear cache and reboot, see how that goes!
change your CSC to match the ROM so you can use Kies latter on (ex: BTU with BTU)
On you call pad *#272*you IME here# then chose to match your Firmware.
I hope this helps

Damn... make sure the drivers of the phone is installed. After connecting your phone to computer, open device manager from the start menu search and see if there is anything with yellow triangle.

What? Are you serious?
Odin needs DOWNLOAD MODE. smh.
And as well, flash a ROM via adb?! Dafuq!?
OP: boot into download mode, volume down + home + power.
Flash a stock firmware via odin and you should be good to go.

hi..sry if such post already exists.. i did'nt found any solution yet
i ws running resurrection remix jb rom 3.1.0..
i wanted to downgrade to gingerbread so i flashed 2.3.6 firmware using odin bt (such a dumbass i m ) i forgot to turn on usb debugging in hurry..
now all i get is a constant boot loop.
i can't get into recovery mode(shows kies encoutnered problem via flashing error)
i can only enter into download mode nd can use odin to recover if there is any solution ..
plz help
You say you can enter Download Mode?
If so, then I see no problem. Download your desired firmware at sammobile.com and flash it through ODIN. That shouldn't be a problem.

i flashed official ics indian version through Odin..
bt i m jst getting bootloop
On your pc ensure there's no Kies related processes running. THEN, start Odin.
To get rid of bootloop just remove battery, count 30 seconds and put it back in. Then put the phone in download mode.
Hth

You think thats bad.......I tried to flash something on Odin several times and then I realised I wasnt in download mode.
Try after flashing, go to recovery then do a factory reset (wipe) then wipe cache then see if u have bootloop.

I had used ROM Manager to update CyanogenMod and now it gets stuck in the boot mode. I got it to go into recovery but there is no backups and I had backed up just prior to upgrading. I hooked the USB cable to it and can't see any files at all on the SD card. Any help out there is appreciated in gettig this up and operational again.
If you can go into recovery then wipe everything, boot into download mode, connect to pc and flash stock rom via Odin. Then you can start all over again.
