Hi, I'm new with this galaxy GT-S5830i and have to try to flash a new rom but I don't know this mobile and its characteristics.
I only understood the recovery is temporary but no, beetween many things, when to root/unroot it if is necessary. I'd like to know even the possibility to install apps in sd ext( I read many way to proceed). And all I' ve forgotten to write down.
Very very thanks who will give me a hand.
@ Giobio, well this post has been considered a good start. Possibility of moving your applications apk + dex + lib files through app such as link2sd ( rooting is required/works on stock/custom mod) is always possible. You can freely move your application to the second partition and creates symbolic links in the original locations on internal storage with ease mate. Even you could remove /data/data directory in paid version, but it would slow down your SD card non-FAT file system, not recommended. Integrate update into system is also accessible in your rooted device. and so much more you could accomplish,,,Instruction was given here was quite simple for start.

Hi there,
I have the tab 10.1 4G+ wi-fi (GT P7500R)
data plan 500mb/months
I use the stock firmware, rom etc...
I downloaded the titanium backup app from the market but it seems that it doesnt work.
What would be the best backup program to dl for the stock tab? (free or not)
How does it work, what and where does it save ? only apps, or all my files (pictures, favorites, widgets etc)
I also read quite a few times, put this on ur sd card, save that to your sd card.
Well i don have any sd card for my tab, i use my pc and my external hd for my storage.
So if one day i decide to try a new firmware or rom or whatever the way it work, can i do it without a sd card ?
About the changes of firmware and roms, i read a bit about it but im not quite sure i understand everything, plus i saw so many thread about peoples that have problems after doing it that i a bit affraid.
I saw one popular firmware that seems to be working great : in paris v4
does it fit with my tab ? or wich one do work ?
Will i still be able to use the default web browser and widgets ?
I'll wait for your anwsers for theses questions before asking some more (depending of the anwsers i'll get)
Thank you
You need to be rooted for titanium to work.
Your 16gb capacity is your SD card on the tab.
Install cwm (see thread here or use overcome thread/guide) and you will gain root and the cwm menu to flash custom roms. The nandroid recovery menu will let you install a zip but cwm will give added options and root.

that is what i saw when i wanted to dl it, then figured out it won't work.
So wich backup app is the best for a default tab ?

ok, so it mean that when u make any changes to firmware and rom, u dl the stuff on the tab ? then when they talk about flash ? i though that flashing meant "erase" the data..... I think im confuse......

I might look stupid but this is like chinese for me.
I've searched "overcome cwm" and this is what i got link
but i still dont really know what i'll be able to do or not do with this.
please see also this LINK in order to know a bit more on me
Thanks for your help
I hope ill get more awnsers about the other questions
1. Never had the chance to play around with my tab before I rooted and flashed it.
2.flashing pretty much means installing something, weather its a custom rom, kernel or theme. You have to be in recovery mode to do any of this.
3.the link you posted is to a custom rom w/ a built in kernel.
I read your link and from what I gather you should get a little more familiar with your device and read the hell outta these forms. for what you intend to use this device for and you being an android noob I think its better you stay stock for the time being. There are are alot of ways you could ruin your device. So my advise is read read read.

Thank you for this anwser,
Im actually a noob with the android world but not a noob in the pc world.
I successfully overclocked my pc 6 months ago and my system is stable (didnt crash once) and i did that without knowledge, just by reading.
I can pretty much do anything if i understand what am doing and what are the exits/recover possibles in case of a problem.
The thing is that am french canadian so i do understand english but sometimes when it goes a bit too far in the abbreviations or in the technical, i get lost.
One more thing, there is so so many subjects, wich one is the best for my tab ?
by reading again and again THE subject that i should, i might finally understand.
Am not in a hurry, for now, i find my tab smooth and easy of use but i never say no to even more smoothness or else.
Im still wondering about wich backup app to use for the default tab and like i ask in my first message, what and where does the backup app save

Check out MyBackupPro. It works for non-rooted Tabs and saves the backup either online or on the sd card.

Well here's what you need to do, in my opinion :
1. DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING that comes from Samsung. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you want to keep it that way.
2. Read up on the rooting/custom recovery thread so you can understand how to get nvflash up and running. This will help immensely as you start flashing custom roms and things go wrong. Backups using the CWM recovery are the quick way out of trouble when you flash a ROM and it screws up.
3. Get fastboot going, as this is probably the best tool for getting out of any trouble you get in to. These devices are incredibly hard to brick once you have the right tool set at your disposal.

thanks, following the info i got in a previous post, when it says backup on sd card and that i use a tab that doesnt have an external sdcard, does it mean it will save it on the tab ? Then if i get a problem with the tab, ill losse everything ?
If so, then i guess saving online is the best way to do it right ?
Im trying the free version right now, online its ridiculous, only 2mb of space
I've looked on their site, i cant find how much space we get with the paid version, do you know the anwser?
One question about the titaniumbackup. it says that it work with rooted tab.
Can i root my tab and stay default to use this backup program ?
I really appreciate the help you guys are providing
(and sorry once again for my poor writting skills)
well i got the anwser about the storage space online for thoses who might want to know
with the 4.99$ payment of the Mybackup pro app, its 100mb online
for 1$/month or 10$/year : 250mb
for 2$/month or 20$/year : 1gb
yesterday i backup my apps, music and pictures on my tab for 235mb total and i only owed the tab for 3 weeks now.
to me this is ridiculous, i better backup everything on my external HD with the usb cable, it might take longer and ill have to do it manually but i rather do that than pay 20$ per year.
anyone has a better solution ?
To clear my point cauz I'm not a Dev. and I know little about android .
Is there is a way to change the internal stoarge to only system ! for ex. 14 Gb
instead of only 2 gb for system , can it be extended ? reformated ?
not a link to sd apps or these things , i.e. I need repartation like in windows when I choose how much size for partation , how many partations and the extention and etc,
if it is a ROM related thing , can some one tell how I could get it done ! I guess it will be few steps if so , I just need it to be as close as it could be to stock Version ,
or is there a program on PC like android SDk thing or .pit to Odin or any other ? that should I use to repartation ?
is it possible for ex. to plug the usb to PC and get full control to Root dir ? or a repartitoning programmes on PC that could get access to my full phone storage so I reformat ?
I hope you guys got what I exactly mean and guys if I messing up some points or the whole point it is okay , I hope you Guide me to the Right place to start from to get this exactly done .
and plz guys be direct don't just link me to market apps that do this , apps are great , But I want to open my storage in setting to find it for example 12 Gb system .
thanks in advance

The Android uses several partitions to organize files and folders on the device. Each of these partitions has a distinct role in the functionality of the device, but not many Android users know the significance of each partition and its contents. In this guide, we will take you on a tour of Android partitions, what they contain and what can be the possible consequences of modifying their content.
Let’s start with a list of standard internal memory partitions on Android phones and tablets. These are:
• /boot
• /system
• /recovery
• /data
• /cache
• /misc
In addition, there are the SD card partitions.
• /sdcard
this is a good info to start with , how to modifiy size of any of them ?
From your first statement, I would tell you to stay well away and don't do what you're planning on doing. You will end up with an expensive brick.
However, if you ignore that, some people had limited success changing things recently here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668994

Why do you want to repartition your sd card?
Is there a reason for having a 12 GB big system partition?
Read the thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433098&highlight=change+partitions+repartition
And here more information about pit files for repartitioning => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104139
But I would recommend no to repartition your internal sd card as this can hard brick your phone.

It depends on what expensive brick means ? hardware ? as it wont enter download mode ?
as it got bricked alot , but it still enter the Download mode , so Just pick it up , plug it with odin , flash it a new rom ! and Once I did checked Repatation and and Pit file in ODin and everything was going fine ...
I don't want to ignore that , but from previous knowledge on Windows , Repartation seems to be usual thing , no big big breaks , if just backed up and got the right stuff even BIOS in windows can fixed ...
if brick can be done by software , then it is not a big problem .
if brick means hardware or I could Not enter download mode , then I should reconsider it .
Edit :
and if so , I'm only going to repartation /system only .... and maybe /data ,,,,, I will leave the /boot , /recovery , /cache , /misc
so as to avoid risks I guess ..
but the question is how I repartation any of them !

Reason : I need to install apps as much as I want without having to move them to external storage which has a slower speed (class 4 for me ) , and also in any case I unmounted the card , apps will be there , ... plus as a secure place ,micro Sdcards may just die in any time . also I encounter some bugs and lags when apps are on external card , and some apps and launchers got also bugs when it comes to external MicroSd apps .. to sum it up , Dont want apps on Microsd card .
and I 've been through some solutions , like move 2 sd card apps .. never solved the problem, it move apps to external MicroSD storage , not in internal , and apps like directoryBind , you have to install it first and have root and make some empty folders to link with and need to be loaded at boot , a way complicated and still don't work flawlessly .
Is there some solutions I didn't try ? plz let me know
I'm not the app maniac , but that is the way android is , and it will be fair in 6 months for Ex, to have a bunch of apps , some have large size , some games takes like 80 Mb . it may wind up with no space left by 100 app (10 large ) and the other codecs and players and etc... also phone becomes laggy when free space less 200 Mb in system .
that's my problem any way ! I may be messed pointing it out ,there's may be also an easy solution and I did Not know about it
if i messed something , just till me where to start again .
thanks guys
[Q] is there a customized Pit file having different partitions values anyway ?
From the looks of what you are saying and asking, I would not mess with anything you're trying to do. You're going to end up bricking you're device!

Honestly, all I do is delete the ones I barely use. I'm very picky about the apps I have on the phone. I find that the more I have the slower, more buggy, and higher chance that the battery will drain faster. The only thing I can see is that you can delete some apps

Hello everyone,
I've (CF) rooted my S3 only to move app data to my extSD card. The official stock firmware (JB 4.1.1) is still on it, and i would like to keep it that way (serves me good). I've tried directory bind and Link2SD.
Both of the apps don't work (or i'm to much of a noob to get it going)!
Directory bind just moves files from one location, but when i start the app, it gives me a error (in this case, tomtom).
Also the alternative management options in this app, dont give me tools to "bind".
Link2SD makes links (on the second partition of the ext.sd) but doesn't want to move the app data to the first partition of the ext.sd The error is "insufficient storage space", but there is over 27gb of (fat32) free space. The second extsd partition is 2gb of ext4.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the official stock FW just not up to the task?
Greetings, RedKingCrab

Ho Bro,
i have the same problem, but as i know this is some new bull**** in the System or maybe just on Samsung devices.
The only app wich is more ore less useful is the "GL to SD"..

It seems that some versions are not well supported yet. Maybe in a couple of monts it will. I'll try again later on, including GL to SD.
So i've unrooted my S3 allready, because rooting it gave me troubles installing manual apps!
If I manualy wanted to install a apk file, i got an error (not enough memory )

Sorry bro, didn't get it to work on stock fw.
Because of time issues i haven't been able to figure this problem out. I've unrooted the phone and flashed back with original stock.
Maybe its the way you created your partitions.

I had to do this. Go to Walmart camera section. Buy yourself a sd card reader

pop that puppy in the computer and move the files you
need to reflash into your recovery. Now put the sd card back in your

I'm a little confused...what's the fix? And why rooted only? You can have cwm or twrp or another custom recovery without being rooted, and your ext sd card slot doesn't require root? Is there supposed to be recovery files linked here or something? Either the op heading is a little misleading, or some details need to be added cause I'm Def a little confused...or is this just a post about sd card readers? Thanks

Let's consider what means 'root' - as you can read in Wkipedia:
Android rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.
Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user.

(Sorry for long quoting).
That means, without root you can only manage user apps and have not access to /system where are placed most interested things...
So aside of question if this method brings something really new, for successfull meddling in system apps root is a must! And fixing things in Android needs such meddling for sure

Yea I'm well aware of what root access is...I develop roms and kernels, themes and other mods ...my question is about the post...was there suppose to be root packs here or is this just literally about an sd card reader...As the the op is about a fix for all androids which does not exist as they all require different root access files and methods, and most devices other than samsung have no external sd... and response and op have almost no relation to one another? What was the point of the op is what I was asking, not for a quote about root? Thanks:silly:
