I am running Cyanogenmod 11-20140216
Total Space - 9.59GB
Available - 1gb
Apps - 277mb
Pictures, Videos - 175mb
Audio 232kb
Downloads - 373mb
Cached Data - 3.13mb
Misc - 807mb
By my math I should have roughly 8gb available. What am I missing? I have wiped cache/Dalvik and reset the phone from recovery and still no dice. Please help!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying desperately to clear the out of space errors.

Have you done any nandroid backups on your internal storage? I know they usually take up about 2gigs of space
Sent from my my Lollipopped S4
I've been searching recently for an answer to that problem.
I took it upon myself to explore in ES File Explorer and found that I could only explain roughly half of the internal storage usage.
I decided to see what I could find in the root folders or system folders.
When I went from the root level, I went to the Storage folder and brought up the properties of 'sdcard0' and found it to be at 4.38GB's used.
I did the same to the 'emulated' folder and found it to be at 8.79GB's.
Looking inside the 'emulated' folder, I found '0' and 'legacy' folders. At firsty glance of the files inside those folders, they seem to be perfect copies...
Could this be the problem we're having? Would it harm us to delete the files in one of these folders over the other?

That got me to about 5.5gb available. I also did some other cleanup. I should be clost to 9gb available now. Consider me perplexed.
psychot3ch, I noticed a very similar lay out in mine. Would love to know the answer to your question.
Also, is there way to wipe the sdcard, not the external, completely. I noticed after a factory reset there were still a lot of files hanging around. Pictures I had taken and downloaded. Is there any way to wipe everything completely and start fresh?
I deleted a bunch of system apps with titanium that was about 1 or 2 GB and didn't recover any space. Am I correct 100mb = 1gb or is it 1000mb

Well guess that's why it didn't change much.

Did you try FS Trim?
As I understand it, sometimes the Filesystem doesn't free up space after items were deleted. FS Trim will take care of that.
I know it's included with Android Tuner, probably can find it in a bunch of other apps too.

Hi all,
I've just received my HTC desire x, checking the specs there is written
that the internal memory should be 4GB, but I have just 1GB.
the total space shows 1.09 GB (screenshot attached)
on the HTC website there's written
Total storage: 4 GB, available capacity varies*
and then *Available storage is less due to phone software.
Is it possible that the OS takes 3GB? Seems a bit too much for me...
Any idea?
Thanks all in advance

This is correct man. There is no issue or problem. The system takes ~3gb. Cos imagine when you are factory resetting your phone. The original OS file (called ROM) will reside in that memory with a whole lot of other backup stuff which you cant access.
This is why ppl use CUSTOM ROMS, cos we remove bloatware and other things.
What you see in that screenshot is same as mine and as other. Just buy an external card and it will rock
and please go to about > software update > PRESS CHECK NOW even though "Scheduled Check" is ticked cos there are updates and possibly u have one waiting also.

^ +1.
anyway i cant see why 1gb isnt enough for apps and games. if you have a sd card, it will be more than enough because of the ability to move apps to sd.

Thanks man all doubts vanished now,
does it mean that once rooted (I haven't seen any good rom around yet, please advise if you know any)
I can partition the internal memory? Or it's better not to partition anything for a smoother and faster phone?
Thanks again
Yes 4GB in these mount points:
dev - 303MB
cache - 251MB
data 1,1GB
internal memory (emmc) - 1,1GB
system/942MB
Plus a few more like radio boot and / mount point. It's up around 4GB.
i think you want this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD
with that app. you will no longer have to worry about low internal storage again. i use that all the time on my previous phone who has low internal memory (400mb below). but with des x i dont need it. 1gb internal memory are a lot!

Is it possible to reformat partitions? Why not to have internal memory (emmc) - 1,1GB and system/942MB merged? I'm not using emmc, cuz I have SDCard for all my stuff, so 1,1 Gb are empty, but I have insufficient space on system.
Background: CWM recovery, SynergyROM r104
My 'Misc' storage reads 7+ gb. A substantial portion of that is the TW-based SynergyROM, but I can't figure out what the rest is. There are no nandroid backups on the internal storage. Looking through 'Internal Memory' with SolidExplorer, I see that the used space is 3.93gb, however, when I view the content summary the total size for all folders is < 2gb. I've gone through each folder in internal memory and can't figure out where the heck the other 1.9gb of used storage is coming from. I have factory reset/wiped cache since I first noticed this. Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped here.

Hi,
Probably at this time you maybe have solved this problem. Same happened to me, I had 6 Gb of miscellaneous files and coudn't figure where or what they are. Tried all kind of wipes and reset. Finally what worked for me was doing a internal SD format from the recovery, and the miscellaneous files turned to less than 200 Mb. This equals to a complete factory reset manually done.
Hope this can help you.

Safestrap with HD12 on the stock slot, no other slot active. I've pared my misc. storage down a bit, but I've still got 6.26 in System. Just glancing through the files, there seems to be a ton of clutter, but I'm not about to go in and delete stuff if I don't know exactly what it is I'm doing.
Hi, I have a s3 international version, rooted and cm11 on it. My internal memory is almost full and I can't seem to move apps to external sd card. Also, a few months ago I had 5 gigs of space left, now 900mb... Did a complete whipe and started all over again, but still 900mb free memory. Is there a way I can delete everything, maybe go back to stock an start all over?
Thanks
Camera, or game data files, or changing rom to rom
1.When you switch from rom to rom( like 4.1.2 to 4.2.2) it leaves the previous rom's files in an folder named '0'..
2. when you may put some pirated games, after wipe.. the folder( data files) still exist
3. well, have you been recording a lot of videos or took a lot of pics??
I did have a few '0' folders, but I deleted them al.
Could be a few app folder, but definitely not 4gigs.and I have maybe 50 photos on it and no films.
Would it be bad if I deleted everything on the internal sd?
I also have a folder storage/emulated/0 and storage/emulated/legacy. In both are the same files. Can I delete 1 of the 2 entirely?
Thanks for the fast reply btw

To be on your place I would install Root Manager from G.Play and carefully looked inside. In acc to result i would be acting next step. And probably you will find another 0 folder. ( personal experience)

Use any file explorer (ES file explorer has one) which has storage space analysis tools.
That'll help you to locate the folders which are using most of the space.
I'm running the latest CM snapshot. I've been getting the infamous "Insufficient Storage Available" error for a while not, usually with chrome. There are various solutions. The "delete /data/app-lib/<app>/lib" solution was working ok for me but I can no longer find chrome in there anymore for some reason. I've already moved every app that can be moved to the "internal" SD card. All the "solutions" are really just workarounds trying to clear space.
Is it possible to increase the size of the partition by re partitioning the internal storage?

I know that apps can be moved to the SD card. That isnt a solution nor my question.
I'm asking of the internal storage can be repartitioned
I'm having the same issue. I desperately need to reparation my phone.
i'm running viper rom with the sdcard swap mode.
i'm now back to getting insufficient memory messages when trying to update apps or sometimes run apps. it shows i still have plenty of free memory... i have been moving apps to sd card and that works for a little while.

You need to look at internal storage, not SD card storage.
So I did system dump today to explore the files on my computer see what's hogging all of my space.
Background: I have only have 13 apps installed.
What I found is that my data/data is 346 MB and my data/delvik-cache is 452 MB.
So the files installed by CM are getting more numerous and of greater size. Not sure what to do to solve this problem.

same issue here. davlik cache is similar to a cache of your applications so they start faster. So it doesnt matter if you move apps to SD, you'll still have davlik.
Also, many apps will still store data in internal memory eventhough the app itself is on SD. I wish there were a way to move the data.
Or as I initially suggested, re-partitioning.

well, there isn't ANY easy re-partitioning tool for android out in the wild that i KNOW of ... but, (at least to let you know) ... I'm currently still trying to _hack_ something together similar to the internal storage-partition upgrades that the other HTC One devices with MSM8960 recieved ... where they officially unified the /user partition with the internal /sd-card (fat) partition! ... it might take a few weeks until i have something to show around (as work keeps me very busy throughout the week), but i'm working on it.
just as a quick question so CM currently DOES put it's dalvik to the /user partition??? i thought they put it to /cache??? (at least on CM10.1 and CM10.2) ................ so feedback would be highly welcome
Hey I have this problem on my Redmi that is comparable to what was the case on Windows Phone.
There seems to be a big chunk of 'invisible files' that take up 10 gigabytes of space ('misc'). Using the DiskUsage app it shows system data being the culprit.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? I have already tried solutions like deleting thumbnail files etc. It really seems to be something inside of the system directory but I can't find it even with root.
Details:
32 GB Kenzo, 24gb usable internal storage, 7 GB free space, about 7 GB userdata and 10gb missing files taking up all the space.
Seems to so something with the camera app, still investigating where this data actually is
Edit: /data/misc/camera/ delete the whole folder and voila, 17 GB free space. So happy right now.

Installing the developer ROM didn't take much work when using the MIUI backup feature.
