Hi. I wanted to buy a Micro USB to HDMI cable and found a few one on Kijiji but...They're all for Galaxy S3 and Note 2 ( at least thats what the ad says)
Has anyone tried any of these cables? If so, what model? and would the S3/Note 2 Cable work for I717? Please reply!
Here's a pic of the cable I want to buy: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTAwWDUwMA==/$T2eC16FHJG!E9nm3pwD0BRMkq)Z48g~~48_20.JPG
(Sorry if this is in the wrong section)
EDIT: I think i found the answer but I'm not sure. The cable works with any device that supports MHL... Which means Note I717 should be compatible..?
I don't believe the cable that works with the S3/note 2 is compatible with the I717. They changed something for those models. Do a search on ebay for mhl cable. You will see plenty. S2 cables are compatible.
Just wanted to know is it possible to connect mega 5.8 to tv
Cannot see why just check ebay or your local pc shop and get a MHL micro USB to HDMI HDTV Adapter and you should be able to connect your mega to your tv as long as your tv has an HDMI input.
I bought one of these adaptors and I can't get a thing out of it. Is there some setting to enable HDMI output? If so where is it?
DELETED
Forgot to say I have the 6.3 inch mega not the 5.8, but I can't see that making any difference.
Also I have tested it by connecting it to the HDMI port on my monitor as well as the TV and that shows no sign of any input either.

I don't think any of the Megas supports either USB host or HDMI. For example I connected a USB host cable to test if my Mega 5.8 would recognise a flash drive. No, it did not detect anything.
Both devices support the MHL standard and both contain a combined MHL/USB port.
See this download link:
Which is blank because the forum rules won't allow me to post it
Only thing with the MHL adaptor is there is a 5 pin and a 11 pin one and I am not sure if the mega has the 5 or 11 pin one as that could make the difference in it working or not..I will test the MHL adaptor I have and see if it works on my mega 6.3..and I believe the adaptor I have is the 5 pin one as it worked on my SG2 and Note 1 as the 11 pin one is the newer adaptor.

Any info on this one yet?
I've never actually tried to use an MHL cable for my phones before, so I was wondering if this would be compatible for my N3: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATDA8C8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1AMUYYA3CT6HJ
Doesn't list N3 as one of the compatible devices but I figured that the N3 was backwards compatible with a micro usb, it shouldn't be a problem.
Does anyone know? And do I just plug it in and I'm good to go?
I use one off eBay that cost £3 that I used for my HTC One but it has a power source as well

Hi Calvin,
This one can not compatible with Note 3 for the Micro USB port of is different from the Micro USB port of Note 2/S4/S4.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with USB 3.0 port.
Yes it will work with the Note 3. As long as it's an 11 pin adapter it'll work. The difference lies between mhl 1.0 and mhl 2.0. Mhl 1.0 requires you being plugged into a power source, 2.0 doesn't. Having usb 3.0 on our phones makes no difference. It's no different than being able to use a standard micro usb to charge our phones.

my mhl 1 adapter not working
I have an MHL 1 adapter and it isn't working on my note 3. it is powered and I plug into my hdmi port on my monitor and nothing. I don't see a setting to enable so I suspect it supposed to happen automatically.
I bought this one.

The plug fits both note 3 and note 8.0. I will test it later today.

Then it's MHL 2.0. Google it. You have to have a power source prior to.

How do I tell if it's an 11-pin? It doesn't say in the link.
Ideally, I'd like one that's compatible with GS3 and N2 because other people in my house own them.

Nope, not true. I have an old Samsung MHL 1.0 adapter that I use with the 5 to 11 pin adapter and the Note 3 powers it fine all on it's own. I also have the MHL 2.0 adapter from Samsung and that doesn't require the adapter but does NOT work if plugged into an AV Receiver (even when plugged into a dedicated MHL port). The MHL 1.0 adapter worked fine plugged into the AV Receiver but when I plug in the MHL 2.0 cable it pops up a message saying 'Plug HDMI cable directly into TV'. I even tried it with a Redmere (active) HDMI cable to see if that would fool it but it didn't.
It does work when plugged into the TV but I get no audio since the AV Receiver provides audio and the TV is HDMI 1.3 so no audio return.
On a side note the MHL connector (Yamaha RX-A1030) does not provide charging power (or any power at all) despite Yamaha's extensive marketing of the benefits of MHL (vs a plain old HDMI input). With an external power source connected to the MHL 2.0 cable I see 700mA charging current (vs 1200 if I plug the cable directly into the Note 3).

I stand corrected. I knew there was only a few phones capable without external power but haven't had a chance to test on the Note 3. I was under the impression from what I've read that it had to be mhl 2.0 adapter not just the phone. I have a HTC One and my trusty old 5 pin, I sold my 11 pin a long time ago with my S3. I'm waiting on my 11 pin mhl 2.0 to get here now.

Search for an 11 pin specifically or a 5 pin with 11 pin adapter. Here is a link to one on Amazon.

Look at the bottom (hook) side of the plug.
11 pin has a groove on the middle.

It's out of stock atm. I'm trying to look for one without a power source and is compatible with S3/N2, which I'm guessing should be all of them since they both use an 11-pin.

Yeah he's thinking that it has to be the same connector as the usb 3.0. It doesn't. Standard micro usb plugs up to our phones. We just don't get the benefits of 3.0 with them. The biggest factor in usb 3.0 is the data transfer rates and I'm guessing charging rate although I'm unsure about the charging thing.

I just realized it requires a power source, which I'm not interested in. Don't really want any more than one chord connecting directly to my TV if possible. There's a few adapters that are cheaper for around $10, so I'm trying to looking for one without a power source and is compatible with S3/N2 (which I'm guessing is all of them since they both use 11-pin). Is it unreasonable to get one for around $15-18?
This is what I searched: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p...l+hdmi&ie=UTF8&qid=1381784572&rnid=2470954011
Unless I missed something, they all seem to need a power source.
According to CraigAmey they will work without a power source but if you're questioning it look specifically for mhl 2.0 11 pin. I know for a fact mhl 2.0 adaptors don't require it. I'm working but when I get the chance I'll post the link for one I found earlier.

I did talk to Samsung advanced tech support about the MHL 2.0 adapter not working when plugged into a receiver. In short what he said was they never wanted it to work but the MHL 2.0 is the first one that can tell what it's plugged into, and therefore lock you out of using anything other than a TV or monitor. So all of those companies putting MHL inputs on their receivers (Yamaha, Pioneer) may as well not bother because Samsung are explicitly locking their latest devices to not support them.
Also while I've verified that the Note 3 can be used with either MHL 1.0 or 2.0 adapters without external power it does drain the battery pretty fast when you hook this up so if you're planning on watching a long movie you might want to connect power anyway. I haven't had a chance to test if any of the OTG peripherals work with the MHL 2.0 adapter yet either, that's next.

That's a good point. Thanks.
After looking through some more on Amazon, I'm thinking my original linked cable should work fine, but I'm not sure which one I should get: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters...id=1381792525&sr=1-4&keywords=galaxy+mhl+hdmi
I can't seem to tell the difference between the three options. Also, after searching for a few of these on amazon, I'm worried that it won't actually charge the phone while in use. I'm getting conflicting reports according to the reviews over whether or not it charges the phone. I want to use this occasionally, but mainly for my mother to watch some of the shows she has on her phone, so it's quite important that it charges.
All share cast dongle is the way to go.

Hi guys
Updated to 4.3 no issues. But I recently bought an MHL to HDMI adapter for my Note 10.1 2014 which is working very well with the tablet. So I wanted to try it out with my S3 and it doesnt even detect that there is an hdmi cable connected. It starts charging when i connect the power cable to the adapter, but no hdmi out.
Any ideas? It's just strange because it's working with the note 10.1 which also has android 4.3...
HDMI working fine on my 4.3, S3 requires a special connector for hdmi -no idea if the note has the same connector.
should be the same.. It's a 5 to 11 pin adapter. It even says "S3 MHL Adapter" on it!
I have a whole bunch of apps frosted with Titanium though. Maybe i frosted something that is needed for hdmi?
I've got a Canadian S3 (SGH-i747m), bought an 11-pin MHL adapter hoping to use it as a media center. I know the adapter is 11 pin and works fine, because it works flawlessly on my newer Note 4. But all I can get it to do on my S3 is charge.
I was originally running CM11, someone said that doesn't have MHL support, so I downgraded to the latest stock rom, 4.4.2. But that isn't working either. The only thing that happens when I plug in the MHL connector is that a good 20-30 seconds later, it says its charging. Any tips? Is there another ROM I can try with MHL support?
If the mhl 'device' is 3.0 then it should work fine. Lower versions do not. I bought my 3.0 from Maplin (Maplin's own brand) and it works.
