Soft brick? Definitely need help. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
After the last CM11 update my phone was stuck in boot loop. That made me search for method of fixing it - nothing of usual methods did work. Wipping everything, installing new kernel and CM. So I went for NAND Erase All and repartitioning, I do have fresh phone. Even without a recovery, only the boot loader mode. I cannot install any system from here - it goes to boot loop once again. Could please someone help me to install the system from the scratch, so it works? Could be Cm, could be stock, could be experimental CM12. Just make it work for me please

Try the rescue firmware in general thread but you may have deleted your efs folder -which will require a repair centre.

Couldmyou please link any source educating me on what is this folder? Also, it is worth mentioning, the recovery cannot mount anything from internal memory of phone. I am going to give a go to rescue firmware and post results soon. Thanks for the answer

Turns out the problem is internal SD card of phone. It does not mount, which I guess is a reason for all boot loops I experienced. What do I do with it? Tried CWM and TWRP recoveries, none work.

[Q] I9100T Odin flash OK, Download and recovery OK, stuck at logo!

Hi folks, mid last week I woke up to a non responsive Galaxy S2. It's been happily running stock Vodafone ICS for over a year, and somehow spontaneously went soft brick on me. Gets stuck at logo screen or goes into boot loop.
Download mode is accessible. I can flash through Odin (1.85 and 3.09) and it reports success. I have successfully put CWM (various versions) on it can can boot into them fine.
Recovery mode is also accessible and appears to be working fine. I can access external SD card no problem.
Attempting to flash through zip from external SD aborts with Mode 7, reporting bad zip or unable to read source file. I have tried removing asserts from install script (educated myself to the risks and made sure the ROM was correct!!) and multiple versions of CM (10.1.3 stable, 10.2 nightly) and multiple versions of CWM recovery (6.0.2.9 is what I've been using mostly, as recommended by CM guide)
Tried running GS2ROMNukeV2.12.zip which reported successful wipe, then attempted zip install from SD with same result (aborted mode 7). Repeated wipe and attempted stock (I9100TDVLSK_I9100THUTLSD_I9100TDVLS3_HOME.tar) from flash through Odin. Reported success, phone booted into recover and applied KOR CSC successfully, then reboot and still stuck at logo screen/boot loop.
I have attempted the fix in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771 as best I could wish the resources I could find, but it's hard to follow to the letter with the links broken!!!
I have not tried repartition with PIT as I'm not sure where to get an appropriate PIT file. Advice on this appreciated!
I want to make this clear because people seem to not want to believe it: I did not soft brick my phone flashing it. My best theory at this point is some kind of memory corruption or hardware failure that's causing a boot loop. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. This week I will probably take it in to a repair shop and hope for the best, but tomorrow is a public holiday and I've got nothing to lose by trying any more suggestions.

If memory serves me right this is due to an old version of Recovery, i had the same thing, updated recovery and it flashed zip fine. just as you know. :fingers-crossed:

Help restoring device to Stock

Hello all,
I want to give my friend my Galaxy Note. Due to this, I attempted to do a factory reset from the settings menu, but it would reboot to TWRP instead and get locked in a boot screen. I tried flashing a third-party ROM (CM), but stupidly forgot to wipe the device since I thought I had done it before, resulting in it hanging at the boot animation. Could someone point me to the right direction on how to restore the device to Stock using a tool like Odin? Thanks.
P.S. Does anyone know how to get into TWRP? I can't seem to find a key combination, I have to do it from the TWRP application (yet I can't access the application).
UPDATE: I have managed to get into TWRP, however restoring fails, as it goes back to the TWRP logo. Wipe also does not work.
Solved, what I did was flash a recovery via Odin, which resulted in an error. Kies detected it since it had an error, so it was able to be restored.

Anyone know where to find a CWM recovery image for this thing?

So I tried TWRP and have had extremely bad luck. I thought I bricked the phone at first, then it was stuck in a boot loop, THEN TWRP could not read from the internal memory, and to top it off, when I finally got the phone to boot up, I went ahead and bought a sim card and got it hooked up to ATT, and when I inserted the sim card, it automatically rebooted the phone into TWRP and reset everything (deleting all my apps and stuff) and got stuck in a boot loop.
I had an old phone and used clockwork mod recovery without any issue. Does anyone know where to find a CWM recovery image for the z5 compact?
Actually, if anyone has even the STOCK recovery I would be forever grateful. I would rather stock than TWRP at this point. I don't want to risk my phone being reset and having everything deleted again.
Same issue, unable to boot rom, TWRP has no access..

I am experiencing the same issue. I would like any working recovery/rom at this point. My Wife has the identical phone. Can I make a copy of hers to help the OP and my phone out?
I followed the following;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-sony-xperia-z5c-t3339930
and have tried a few times now. As well as other versions of TWRP..
On a side note I wouldn't mind testing new roms/features being implemented by developers. Please let me know where the best place to get involved would be.
Thanks in advance,
David.
found a boot.img and TWRP that worked for me..
So after a lot of flashing I found one that works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/orig-development/twrp-z5-compact-t3235161
at least I can get twrp working for now..
I still can not get CM installed. Each time I get 'Error executing updater binary in zip'. I will have to do some more reading tomorrow.

No OS, No recovery and the phone is stuck in bootloop.

i was restoring an twrp and rom that i backed up while attempting to root my phone and installing another stock rom, i was unable to install the this rom and so i tried to restore the previous files using twrp, now my phone is stuck in a bootloop (stuck with the space having just the android logo)with me unable to access the recovery or the phone in any other way. i am also unable to initialize a soft or hard reset.
i am pretty new to this and do not know what to do further.
i did what was referred to me on the link given below
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-1/development/unlocking-rooting-nokia-1-stock-rom-t3832230
and things went wrong trying to install this rom
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-1/development/rom-ta-1060-stock-oreo-8-1-t3809578
Please kindly let me know how i can fix this problem
Thank you

Help with soft bricked xperia XZs

Hi all,
I tried to root my ohone using this walkthrough:
https://romprovider.com/sony-xperia-xzs-root-twrp/#Download
I managed to unlock bootloader and then flash everything it said without any errors but then the phone wont boot past the sony start screen. Ive been trying to flash back a stock ROM. Used "emma" and flashed firmware it offered in program. It said successful but still wont boot.
Can anyone please spell out how I resolve this in layman terms? Im pretty good with PCs but the language around rooting and these instructions are always a bit unclear to me being a noob to this.
I cant boot to TWRP on the phone just not the OS. Have tried clearing cache and resetting through twrp..
Thanks for any help!
Boot into TWRP and wipe data partition. If it still doesn't boot then try this guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/xzs/how-to/tutorial-step-step-guide-to-gain-root-t3612624.

Thank you. Wiping the data partition didnt work. I haven't had luck with the flash tool in that walk through either. When I download latest version from link it is a version that doesn't have Xperifirm built in. I downloaded xperifirm seperately but when I try any of the roms it downloads it fails with an error about missing sin or something like that. I will check the error again. Thanks
OK seems I have a stable phone again after using emma again and managing to load properly. Will do the twrp and root parts again. Also I think I botched the back up step in that link. Im going to follow it again.

Thanks
Now the phone boots after loading magisc and drm but the wifi wont work. It wont allow me to toggle it on.
Any suggestion on where I went wrong or how to restore wifi?
Success!!!
