[Q] SIM-card on WiFi only device? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the WiFi only version when it was released in 2013 and I'm a bit interested to see if I can get the SIM-card slot working.
I found a spare part which would allow me to use a SIM-card (go to etradesupply.com and search for 'OEM Sony Xperia Tablet Z SIM Card and SD Card Reader Contact Flex Cable Ribbon'), but is there any other additional hardware I need, like an antenna or similar?
Do I need to flash another software as well?
Have anyone tried this?
Kind regards
Daniel

i think it's not possible, cause you'll need not only sim-slot and antenna, but also GSM chip as well.

That makes sense. Thanks for the fast reply

Problem with GSM - "The SIM card is missing"

Hello. I have a problem again with GSM, it's driving me nuts.
Yes, second problem in two months, although this one is different from the previous one.
"The SIM card is missing".
PK 2.0 used, re-flashed, three different radios, tried to unlock again just in case, back to 1.50 - nothing.
The fault happened after I've finally managed to enable and use VOIP mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316147
I had some problems activating it, I had to save the settings and reset the unit a couple of times before it worked. It did work, I tried to use the phone again - "The SIM card is missing". :/
Radio reports GSM hardware ok, the phone will dial 112, but that's about it.
All the rest works - WiFi, GPS, etc.
Anybody knows how to hard-reset or even better - diagnose the phone? Re-flashing ROM doesn't seem to do the trick.
If I can't solve it - it's service AGAIN and AGAIN why I didn't have the original simlocked ROM on it... sigh...

Maybe it's silly problem ( bad contact/broken) , always small sticker on SIMCard can help for better contact.

Alas, this doesn't seem to be the reason, although thx for pointing it out, I didn't think about the obvious.

Didn't AT&T take over Cingular? but they still show as roaming? My guess is that the SIM that isn't recognised is trying to connect to one of their (still seperate) networks and the ones that work are connecting to the other.
If I'm correct then all you need to do is SIM unlock your ohone and all should be OK.

I did run the athena unlocker already but still that sim card does not recognize. thanks for your input
You ran all three steps? I assume the SIM that doesn't work in your Athena does work in other phones?
What bands does the X7501 run on? Could iyt be that the SIM that doesn't work is locked to a band that's not supported? (850Mhz?)

Dual SIM Adapter

Hi,
has anyone successfully used a dual sim adapter with the LG E900 Optimus 7 ?
I am looking to buy this phone but need the dual sim.
thanks for your help and replies.
Yea i've used one of these before with a MagicSim 28th gen cut.

I'm very interested on the matter, could you please let me know how you can switch from one sim to the other with the LG Optimus 7.
Do you have a dedicated WP7 application to install or the phone automatically detects the dual sim adapter?
Please let me know.
Thanks.
hjkl;' why no delete?
Send me a PM and i'll point you to where i get mine from.
Having a lot of private messages asking where i get it from so i'll put it here.
"directdevices" on ebay. The cutting version isn't listed but if you message them they have them in stock
Hope this helps everyone!
Can you tell me please, how you switch between the sim cards. Because I have the Magicsim 28th but I can't switch between the SIM cards.
Thank you
Have you found the stk (sim tool kit) menu?
No i didn't find the STK menu.
I thought Windows Phone 7 don't has a STK ?
What's the deal with this? Looking for a dual sim adapter for my girlfriend who has this phone.
Did it work out ok?
I can confirm that the Magicsim 28th gen PLUS works on this phone for anyone thats interested.
Got it from www.magic-sim.com
I've had 2 off them now for a couple of different phones and i'm dead pleased.

Yes there is an stk menu.
Thank you very much Daniel
Hi I got the Adapter for my HD7 Pro and i cant find the stk menu.
Can anybody tell me where it is, or tell me how to change the sim.
I requestet support from the vendor but they say if i cant find the stk, i should have to change to android ?! wtf
Please help
They may be right....what firmware you running?
I run the firmwareversion: 2250.21.30201.207
an mango: 7.10.7720.68
Yea I'd guess they're probably right. From my understanding some newer windows versions have stopped supporting stk.
Your best bet is getting over to android as it works real well on my setup. I'm on 2.3.5 if that helps?
Good luck.
OK, i think i try another Adapter, this time a analog one, maybe this works
Thank you for your fast support
No probs... Although I'd be aware that no dual sim adapter will work without an stk menu. So your only real option is to change firmware if you want dual sim capabilities.

[Q] Droid Razr not able to identify any SIM cards

Hello Friends,
My Razr is not able to detect SIM Cards. I have tried more than 3 operators microSIM but it does not show any network. If I do a manual scan, it gives me a list of operators, but selecting the same does not work. It is stock running on 2.3.6. Any solution to this?
Thanks,
Anish
I have the same problem with the RAZR in India and I am using an Idea SIM. Any solution?
Maybe the SIM module is spoilt. Try taking it to a service center.
Hello!
I had the same issue. Razr refused to read the Idea SIM, tried many SIMs & found that plastic card of the Idea SIM is slightly less thicker than others. After bending the SIM little, it worked. See the image for better illustration:
Are you sure, also the card works on other devices. But I will still try getting a new one.
Yes, my Idea SIM worked in all other devices except Razr before applying the trick.
Razr has space limitation due to which phone's SIM connectors are not so flexible than other devices. A little less thickness preventing the phone to connect & read the SIM data. Also, like other devices, it lacks the SIM holder or clip.

When I first received my SGP312U1/B, I unaggressively picked at the plastic piece located where a SIM card would be inserted and it seems to be fixed well in place and cannot be easily removed. I searched for teardown information, but the only thing I could find was Sony's video HERE that shows a teardown of a prototype 3G+WiFi model, not a WiFi only model.
In the video, an external view of the SIM and SD card slots are shown at 0:24. You can also see why I believe the tablet is a prototype because the label reads "SGP321 SGP312JP/B TYPE:XX-XXXX-XX". Notice that the two SGP numbers are in conflict. Also, at 0:32 you will notice the FCC ID or IC number is all Xs. At 2:45, the internal SIM/SD board is shown being removed. I believe in the WiFi only models, a board without SIM hardware is installed.

Thanks but the thread you are pointing to is about the SGP321 (3G+WiFi), not the SGP312 (WiFi only). The question being answered in the year-old post you are replying to was "Can a SIM be installed in a SGP312?" and the answer is still "No."

[Q] SIM not detected though inserted correctly into TS!!

Hi there,
I just bought a 1GB/8GB/2,100 TrueSmart, which will not detect any MicroSIM though it's been inserted the correct way as shown within the manual. It is mechanically accepted by the slot as mentioned with that soft click. All other positions won't lead to this proper position inside the slot. Though it's obviously seated correctly, the icon on the status bar won't lose its red x-mark. SIM settings are always greyed out, it seems to make no difference whether a SIM is inserted or not. Android is not able to recognize the SIM being inserted. BUT: The SIM works properly on my Xperia.
Software- and baseband-versions as shown on screenshots (png-files). What the hell is wrong with my TS? Without that SIM-functionality the TS has no more possibilities than that worthless Apple watch. I could only throw it away into the trash can...
Maybe anyone else had a similar issue with his TrueSmart? Is there any other solution than throwing it away?
