[Video Review] RetiCam Tripod Mount XL with Nexus 6 - Nexus 6 Accessories

My quick RetiCam Tripod Mount XL Review
I will be using this mount for all my filming in the future where a nice clean stable video is needed.
This mount fits perfectly with thin and bulkier cases with a little room to spare.
Solid aluminium
Nice flat base
1/4" screw mount
and is super sturdy! It doesn't budge at all

I was looking to get this one after seeing your video, but came across this one...it appears to fold down to near flat which seems pretty cool too.

the problem i've seen with mounts like the one you posted is that the small mounting surface makes video just a little shaky sometimes. Like with too much wind or walking with it on a steadycam etc.
I was able to move with the RetiCam perfectly fixed when I was recording. It's something many wont notice until they have tried a few products. Plus Metal is much nicer than plastic!

Low-profile horizontal dash mounts?

I'm in the market for a low-profile horizontal mount for my i717 Note, but I'm not having much luck finding one.
The reason I need a low-profile mount is because I drive a Jeep Wrangler that has a very high dashboard. I purchased the Exomount seen HERE, and it holds the Note just fine; however, it stands up way too high and therefore blocks too much of my windshield.
The two low-profile options I'm considering (so far) are:
1. ME-USDM: i.Trek Universal Dashboard Mount
CONCERN: The clamp may not open up wide enough to hold the Note? (The description and comments indicate that it may only work with screens up to 5" -- such as the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0)
2. Roadster Smartphone Sticky Pad Dash Mount
CONCERN: The right and left vertical sides may block a small portion of the screen since the Note's screen is much wider than the iPhone screen in the pictures.
Does anyone have any experience with low-profile mounts like these? Better yet, does anyone have a recommendation for something even better?
Or maybe someone with a Jeep has found an even better idea?
Thanks ahead of time!
What year Wrangler? You running a case?
I've got a Speck case on my Note and was able to modify my SlipGrip mount to work with it... just a quick Dremel mod and I was ready to go.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SlipGrip-RA...337562?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item20b852095a
Similar to this one, works good in both my late model XJ and my TJ. without blocking too much windshield.
I've been using this in my Honda as I hate blocking my view with the windshield mounts. http://www.amazon.com/Bracketron-PH...PPYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330493893&sr=8-1 just clips on you're air vent.

Looks to me, that would put the phone vertical, not horizontal, like the OP wanted. Can it be rotated?
Yes you can swivel it and rotate it. Its on a ball joint.

I was looking at the air vent mounts, but I'm worried they might bounce around too much in a Jeep (not exactly the smoothest rides! lol) How stable is it?
Have you looked at Mountek's nGroove CD Slot Mount I just ordered one since I dont ready ever play CDs.

Unfortunately, my CD/DVD slot is hidden behind the face of my nav-screen, so those aren't really an option.

The second one doesn't need a CD slot it can be mounted anywhere on the dash.

Stable enough for me but I can defiantly see it bouncing around in a Jeep. You might have want to see if proclip has anything for you.

Proclip does have a nice one, but it's definitely on the expensive side. I'm still considering it though.
Thanks for all the ideas so far guys, I appreciate it!

Can you study the pictures in that second Ebay listing and tell me if you think the clamp that actually holds the phone is adjustable? The pictures that show the clamp empty make it look like they're at a fixed width -- I think -- which may mean the Note wouldn't fit tight... I really can't tell.
What do you think? I guess I can also email them and ask.

Well I did a little more digging and your right that one wouldn't work for you at its full opening and full closing it wouldn't work with the over size beast that we carry LOL but the one that is made for the larger tablet looks like it would. The Note is about 153mm tall no case and this closes to 150mm so if you have a case it will be even tighter.

This is what I've been using for the past four years (I'm on my third one). The mount is somewhat cheaply made. The first one was broken and left behind by somedouche that broke into my car. The second one I had broke the gears on the inside that lock/unlock the device in place after about a year and a half.. so they're not the sturdiest things ever made. But I still bought another one because the placement is perfect for me in my WRX (and they're not that expensive).
It might bounce a little, but honestly, my car probably rides rougher than your Jeep since it's lowered with aftermarket struts set on the next to stiffest setting. I don't really have any issues with the device moving/bouncing around.
I can take some pics if you want..

Bottom of the windshield, has just enough reach to get the phone over the front of center stack. Phone ends up maybe 1/3 in front of the vent, 2/3 above the dash.

over2land is actually talking about modifying a "Slipgrip," while the video is of the "SlimGrip"... and I definitely like the looks of the one in the video!
I think I'm going to grab that one and see if it works as well as it does in the video.
Wish me luck!
Edit: Just ordered the SlimGrip SM578 from here:

[Q] Bike mount

With my previous phone I used a Saitechi Ridemate that I really liked, has anyone found one that will work with the Nexus 6 yet?
I hope that Saitechi makes one large enough sometime soon.
Thanks
I've used the quad lock on mine. Before I got my Edge 1000, I used the Quad lock with my old phone. So I ordered the universal adapter, super glued that to the back of a cheap case, and use that for the nexus 6. Works like a charm on my road bike. I tossed it on my MTB and it worked fine there as well. Never came off after a few hours of pretty hard riding.

Thanks for the tip, looks like a great solution.

I haven't gotten it set up for my Nexus 6 yet, but I used rokform's universal mount for my Note 3. I did like rkennison said and attached the universal attachment to a cheapish case. I used a bear motion case, holds super tight without wiggle which made me confident in carrying my expensive phone on my bike. I plan to do the same for my N6, I already have a Bear Motion case for daily carry, and have another ordered for the bike mount already. Here's the case on Amazon if you want to check it out:
http://www.amazon.com/Bear-Motion-N...417401468&sr=1-1&keywords=bear+motion+nexus+6
And here is the Rokform mount:
http://www.rokform.com/universal-bike-mount/
The mount is similar in style to the quadlock, but instead of the spring loaded lock it uses friction and a strong magnet. Super secure in my experience. Plus it mounts to the post and is made of mostly aluminum with adjustable angle (which some people use for being able to record their ride, which is interesting). Definitely more expensive, but it looks super nice on my semi-premium bike.
I really like the Delta and have been using it for awhile on my road bike. Easy in and out, no special cases, secure

Tripod holder/mount for nexus 6?

I compared my nexus 6 to my HD camcorder from quiet a few years back. They are very close in quality. Having a 64gb device, I figured it might be easier to record with my nexus 6 for birthday parties etc for basic events, but I'd need a tripod mount. The ones on eBay aren't big enough it seems.
Any ideas?
I found one guy who has cool ones that have a handle that turns into a mini stand but the plates aren't compatible to this phone.
Thanks
I use the iStabilizer flex with a cheap mount from ebay http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Universa...2910?pt=US_Mounts_Holders&hash=item27f62bb07e
I originally purchased that mount for the oneplus one, it works with the nexus 6 it fits snug though. if you do buy it double check the dimensions of your phone + case and the description of the bracket
Ok, thanks. I seen some of those but they appeared too small for the width of the n6. I found this guys, which I really like the setup to hold it easily for events such as a birthday party, but he doesnt have a compatible one for the N6. Each has a different camera cutout too. The hand held grip looks convenient.

Maybe they will make one eventually.
I did find this one that lists the nexus 6, but I cant tell if the adapter comes off so I could put it on a tripod stands adapter.

In case it helps, I can personally confirm that the phone clamps found on cheapie selfie sticks on Amazon fit the Nexus 6 just fine even with a slim case on it.
My wife picked up this selfie stick over the holidays, and the clamp worked fine on my Nexus 6.
I even picked up a few replacement holders of the same type (probably from the same factory) and have used them for magnetic mount purposes around the house.
The reason I mention it is that the holders all appear to have a standard sized monopod/tripod threaded mount point. I don't have a ton of experience with tripods and such so forgive me if there are wildly variable thread sizes, but the clamps I posted all fit like a glove on the one tripod that my wife picked up years ago.
Anyhow, hopefully this will help your search!

To clamp the phone in place while the mount itself is threaded into place on a monopod/tripod.

1/4-20 Tripod Mount for Nvidia Shield

Looking at buying a Tripod mount for the Shield Tablet but so far have come up with a lot of "Well it might fit"
to be more specific I'm looking to be able to do time-lapse video with my tablet via Framelapse pro
I've made some good video with it just by creative placement but I want to be able to aim the camera and not always be at ground level.
Cheep is not my first go to. I don't want to come back to my $400+ Tablet sitting face down in the dirt.
there are lots of tripod mounts for iPads ETC but none that seem like they would fit very tight.
I have used one with my Nexus 5 in the past but its retired now and its not large enough to fit the shield for obvious reasons.
If any of you have had any luck I would appreciate your feedback pros & cons etc...
I've been considering this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T7M2OY2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A35IHZ7558TFB2
I have no experience with it, but the reviews are good and it's cheap.
This one looks good, too. Better reviews and even cheaper:

Been looking at one similar to that one
http://www.amazon.com/Joy-Factory-U...33433081&sr=1-12&keywords=tablet+tripod+mount
But I am Afraid it would cover the camera lens. although I could just cut off the part covering it. :silly:
And this one.
http://www.amazon.com/i-Trek-Smartp...433433081&sr=1-4&keywords=tablet+tripod+mount
But I dont think it would hold up a tablet very well.
That second one looks like it wants to take big bites of the screen. Not so sure about that. As far as the lens goes on the other mount, I think you have a valid concern. I'd say that you could just drill out a hole but it looks like there would be a bunch of stuff in the way.

I'm going to need a new car mount!

Most of the existing tablet style mounts look a bit crappy, so I'm on the look out for a mount that either adjusts at the corners, or has adjustable sides that aren't spring loaded so I can just drop it in a mount.
I doubt many places will start making mounts for such a limited release device, so post what you can find that looks like it might do the job.
This one looks like it might do the trick as it has a suction cup mount, and a "foot" to keep it stable.

I designed one for my 3d printer. Pm me and i will send you a picture. I set it up for wireless charging.

It looks like a suction cup setup? Would love a quick video tour of it if you have time?
