Solution step by step for post update issues - Samsung Gear S

After having issues after updating gear s and gear mgr using my tmobile note 4 I decided to share my fix which have been so far the solution. Problems that I encountered were : . Apps would no longer install via gear manager giving radom error codes like -122 try later, wo:wo2, no connection retry. Gear s would not auto reconnect to bluetooth after entering remote connection, and a series of random glitches.
My fix worked after doing these EXACT steps. Power off gear s and then hold power button till you see words rebooting then press home button repeadily till you see small menu and click home button to recovery and long press home. Device will now factory reset with new update configuration applied. Do not do this in the gear s os but as described above. NEXT go to gear manager in mobile device and select gear apps and then click purchased apps. Click the all button and then hit the delete icon and check ALL apps and remove, this is very important. Finally uninstall gear manager in app drawer . Next go into android settings on mobile and go to accounts and select Samsung and click the sync menu, in 3 dot menu select remove account.
Next this is very important, go to app manager and find Samsung Galaxy apps store in the all tab and clear data then uninstall the updates tab to basic stock. Next find Samsung apps purchase apk in all and delete data and unistall. OK now pull battery for 10 sec. If you have a stock based custom rom enter the custom recovery (twrp or what you use) and wipe dalv. and cache 3 times and then go to advanced and click fix permissions. Reboot device and open galaxy apps store and update it. Next turn gear s off then on then go to mobile device Samsung app store and install gear manager and pair gear s again. Gear manager may say installing additional software multiple times but keep opening it if it closes. Proceed to install as usual.
This seems repetitive but I tested it over and over and this will work. I suspect that some of the app data saved in the purchases tab may have been interfering with new gear s os. Idea behind this fix is to completely get rid of all data and cloud data trying to reapply. As this update is in preparation of good Ole lollipop the transition was anything but smooth. Hope this helps those who getting fed up with update issues!!!!

Android force close loop (with phone access)?

Hello,
I have a problem with my samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100
running android 2.3.5 stock version.
I'm normal user who used the phone for basic function like making phone calls and using the google, facebook apps with some installed apps from the play store.
Today, 2 hours ago logsprovider initiated out of nowhere an endless loop of "force close" alerts, between them most of the running apps were closed too (including some weird z7... app).
Because of the interval (about half a second) between alerts I can goto setting -> apps -> and "clear data" in the logsprovider config.
this stops the "force close" alerts loop untill the next restart of the phone. in this state I basically don't have access to the phone features and all the home screens are empty, including the phone's apps menu.
I can run any app by adding it to the home screen and then executing it, if the app has system operation like the play store that require it to install something, the app will crash and no new programs will install.
I can also connect the phone to a computer and get access to all the files (I think it's just those on storage), I might try to get an apk of an antivirus there and try to install it - hope it doesn't crash
These are desprate times... thats why I'm contacting the experts,
1. Can I fix this, this might have been caused by an app, what to do?
2. If the only solution is factory reset how do I backup the data, apps, or contact lists?

Replacement device - no way to install existing apps!?

ATT just gave me my unlock code, so I am sending the T-mo watch back and just set up the ATT Gear S instead.
The problem is that I can't find a way to install apps that were on my first Gear S, onto my second Gear S. I can't redownload them from the store, but instead the button says to go back to Gear manager. In Gear manager I can't see the apps at all, maybe because I already disconnected the T-mo Gear S.
What am I missing?
Can you use the Samsung Gear backup and restore function?

How would I do that? The watch itself only has restore to factory settings as an option.
I hope it does not involve installing kies?
BTW, i was on the phone with Samsung for 64 minutes today. After being bounced around in a circle to four different departments, I still don't know how to do it. Presumably a mgr will call me back at some point.
Never talked to such clueless support in my life.

Have same issue. I'm a dev and keep resetting my device and I have several apps that show as purchased that do not show installed in Gear Manager so I can't uninstall or re-install. Seems to be a bug here.

If you reset your device, maybe your phone thinks there is more than one?
This is what worked for me with the two devices I had: I had to either disconnect (Gear Manager) or entire unpair (BT settings of phone) my first device, then the second device could reinstall the apps. I should have updated this post when I figured it out, as I am fuzzy on the install details: I think I had to redownload from the app store.
ETA: Samsung support is completely clueless on this matter: The manager who was supposed to call me back with a solution never did.
Did you check the backup and restore in gear manager inside the settings menu

Gear manager + S Issues

After updating the watch to the latest ROM, i did a factory reset.
now, in Gear manager i cannot see the apps installed on Gear S (there were installed through automatically backup). In Seeting at MANAGE APPS and UNINSTALL APPS it says there are no apps installed. i want to delete an app from gear S...
and the double press option in gear Manager shows only 2 options. NONE and LATEST APPLICATIONS. no S voice..no nothing.
if i chose from gear S the S voice when i double press, it works only once..then it returns to the option NONE...
any help?
If you did a factory reset then it wiped all of your apps
Yes, but after it restored automatically, now I have all applications on Gear S. I have them o watch but I do not see them in Gear Manager...
So I think your problem is not finding apps appearing on Gear Manager. What you have to do is this (as I had the same issue):
Go to your 'phone:
Go to Settings - Applications and look for the app marked for the GearS. For example I had watch styler for both my Gear and Gear S. Both have apps and each is marked for their version. You can uninstall it from the phone there.
This will then allow you to uninstall the mini app on the Gear S..... via Gear manager. For some reason uninstalling on the phone allows the GearS app to show.
You can then reinstall afresh, or remove.
Basically there are two elements to an app. The main one (on the phone) and the mini extension on the Gear S driven from Gear Manager.
thank you but NO, in SETTINGS> APPS there are no GEAR S apps... only the one from my note 4..
I may be stating the obvious, but is your Gear S connected to your phone via BT when you check? That's the only way to see the Gear S apps in Gear manager.

I'm not a native english speaker....so I try to explain:
Gear S is connected to note 4 by bluetooth, I can receive notification, incoming calls, weather, i can install app from gear manager to watch BUT i cannot swipe un from the clock screen to display the pages with apps, settings, etc.
The swipes are registed well by the watch( in media player I can swipe up de first page to display the list of songs..etc
So I cannot acces settings or other apps.

I cannot acces from the clock page the next page with settings and app list. It does not appear the page, the gear stays to the clock page. Everything else works fine

of course i cannot see anything in GEAR MANAGER unless the S is connected.
and in SETTINGS manage app...nothing..empty.
I would start again from the ground up.
Re download the firmware of your choice from sam mobile. I can recommend the GB firmware as I have used this to re-flash my Russian Gear S and it is working 100%. You have nothing to lose!
If this doesn't work, and there is another post today on this forum, on what I think is your problem, then return the unit to Samsung under the warranty.
Another thing you could try is to 'reinstall' the apps through gear manager, then they would show up for uninstall.
so...the re install of the entire ROM, from scratch...and stop recovery of apps (this messed up the apps now)... seems to be the only solution.
i cannot see the app nor in MANAGE APPS nor in UNINSTALL APPS in Gear Manager. in GEAR MANAGER it seems there are NO apps installed on watch. .
in GEAR APPS Store the option is only MOVE TO GEAR MANAGER...

So try 'move to gear manager' and then see if they are available for uninstall.
already tried that...nothing. still no one appears in manage or uninstall menu...
Also, i cannot use double press on GEAR to open S voice, only recent apps. i have only this option in gear manager. ...
anyone has the latest gear manager update ? 2.2.15022599

Application manager has stopped working

The application manager will open, but as soon as I start scrolling I get a message that the application manager has stopped working and get kicked back to the home screen. I've tried powering down and restarting, and I uninstalled the last few apps I'd added in case one of them had anything to do with it, but I really need to change some app settings and I can't access them. I don't know how long it's been doing this because I don't access the application manager very often.

You may try factory reset or flash stock kdz again.

Updated S7 Edge to Nougat as Beta Test, now Gear S will not synch

So I enrolled in the Samsung Nougat Beta Test for my S7 Edge thinking that is should be just fine. After all the last thing they really need is bad PR from this after everything else.
Phone updated with out issues. Applications updated. Settings held without issue.
When it came to sync the watch again to the phone, not happening.
Gear Manager application is now Samsung Gear Manager for N. It looks like it is built into the OS now, as there is no longer a delete option of the application.
When I go to sync the phone with the application, I open the application, press the button to select the gear. I select the Gear S (D5BD) button.
It then advances to the next screen where it says preparing to connect.... and a pop up displays Notice. Installation failed ! Error Code: 5
I called Samsung Support and they had me clear data and force stop the application along with reset the Gear S and there is still no change.
Tried contacting the Samsung Nougat department, and of course they are closed for the day.
Has anyone here experienced this issue, and if so how did you resolve.
If you can offer me any solutions so I can use the watch once again, I would greatly appreciate it. Starting to go through with drawl. If I had know it wasn't going to be working, I certainly would not have updated.
Thanks for taking a look at the post and giving it a thought or two. Greatly appreciated.

I am going through a similar issue, and after spending eternity with high level techs on the phone and in person at a Samsung store, I found that the answer lies in the Gear S. The last firmware update for the watch was early this year, and the watch itself cannot communicate with Nougat. Even though Gear Manager will communicate with Nougat. Right now we are at the mercy of Samsung to update the Firmware for a 3 year old device, that has been replaced by 2 generations...
Fix received
received a fix from Samsung that worked and wanted to share.
1. Go to settings
2. Select Application Manager
3. Select Update Gear Software and uninstall it.
when this is complete, go back to the Gear Manager app and try to re-connect. It will take a bit longer than normal, but will finally connect and sync.
Back in business baby!!
