hi everyone,
just a request for any of you smart folks to put together a kernel with OTG + Charging for the Nexus 9. i need this for a current project and am stuck without it (and not really smart enough to do it myself).
anyone interested?

Hi there, OTG works out of the box on the kernel-side. That means Mouse, keyboard and storage do work pretty much out of the box. Stock and AOSP Android have USB Storage disabled inside the OS though. Check out USBDISK and OTG Commits from here to get Android to show and mount thumb drives: android_device_htc_flounder
2Amps charging is hacked into the kernel, see: commit by usbhost
For OTG + charging at the same time you just need a cable like that one: amazon
Thanks for the response, gladiac. It looks like those cables won't charge with OTG at the same time. I just got one today and it doesn't work, OTG does but plugging in the charger does nothing. I heard there is a kernel hack to get it working (apparently done on the nexus 7) and was wondering if it was possible for the nexus 9 too
We had this discussion already in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...ging-nexus-9-using-otg-cable-usb-hub-t2950726
It does not look like it will work.
thanks lfrst05, i will check on that thread.

It is my understanding that android natively supports usb. My question is, if I get a micro usb to usb adapter, and then plug in a usb keyboard, I would be able to use the keyboard to type documents. Any thoughts?
(I have a rooted nook, but I got the update before I could block them, will revert back soon)
currently no. The android or in this case nook skinned android kernel has to support usb host and usb keyboard inputs which it doesn't. But it probably will in the future when the devs release android 4.0, because ICS needs a different kernel then the current nook tablet kernel. But anyway what keyboard do you have, because you can only connect bluetooth keyboards and also only if the developers can enable bluetooth on the nook.
It also depends on the hardware support. I don't know if the TI chip has a host-only port, or if it supports OTG (On-The-Go) dual mode operation. It probably does, but I've not seen anybody verify that.
it doesn't support USB keyboards. I have a female USB to micro USB for my galaxy S2. I tried to get a USB sick and 2.4GHz mouse and keyboard on the nook but nothing worked, and yes it both works on my galaxy with the stock ROM

The NT can support usb gadgets and usb hubs but it need to be enabled in the rom and the must have the module, the NC has this feature and i hope our great devs can implement this on the NT.

im looking to use a usb 3g modem myself with my tablet ,
ive read a bit on the latest engadget article about the other older e paper nook that was done with a usb keyboard i even went as far as to contact the guy who did it and he told me what to look for , hardware wise to see if the NT could do it ,
yet without kernel support or the module being compiled into the kernel we have already on the tablet , theres not much hope , but i believe it can and will be done , if not im gonna have to get an ipad with a 3g data card in it cause i have to have data access wifi hotspots just not cutting it..
Hi Guys! Good day!
Hope anyone can help me mount my 1tb HDD (Seagate), I'm on Honeycomb 3.2 stock and has the latest kernel for android 3.2 which I got from droidbasement.com. By the way my tab is also rooted and downloaded the app, "usb watcher otg" Thanks in advance guys. A tutorial might be helpful. Thanks again!
youll need to power it up using the supplied power cable or...a powered USB

That is the only solution I know. The USB port does not supply enough juice to power the drive... Powered USB Hub is, as I understand there is no power supply on the HD, the only remaining option...
re
Thanks for the reply. One more thing when I mount my 1tb HDD, the tab say high powered device connected. Can anyone show me a sample of a powered usb hub? Thanks a lot guys
Tiger direct has one example. There are many of them around. You could google it...

Hi Folks,
I have the OTG cable and USB Y cable working my touchpad with 7/30 CM9 nightly... I would like to purchase a USB wired ethernet adapter. Has anyone tried and know of one that would actually work on the touchpad with CM9?
Thanks a ton!!
Anything that Android 4.0 supports should work unless its limited by our kernel. I'd say there is a good chance this one would work as it mentions plug and play compatibility on Android 3.2+. But there could be kernel limitations so you may want to get another opinion.

Hi. Today I tried to connect a flash drive, a mouse and a keyboard but none of them worked. I saw videos on YouTube showing that you only have to connect the cable and that's it. No apps of configs. When I connect the OTG cable it detects it and a notification appears saying USB connector connected. The flash drive's LED flashes and even the mouse optical flashes red but nothing happens. No cursor and no drives in memory. What can this problem be?
I am using Siyah's Kernel V6b4 and have JB 4.1.2 official leak.
Thanks for your help!!
I'm on Xylon ROM (trinity kernel) on galaxy nexus. I bought an OTG cable to play Vice City on my GN. No notification here, I test a mouse successfully but my Xbox controller doesn't work.

But I have Galaxy S2. And on some videos on youtube even with stock firmware 2.3.4 it worked.
I noticed that on the videos the notification is "USB host connected" while mine says "USB connector connected".
My OTG cable has a short between pin 4 and pin 5. 5 volts are coming out because I tested it with a multimeter.
It's mostly up to the kernel to provide OTG support. And unfortunately it seems it usually isn't something the kernel devs prioritize. I've had pretty good results with the CyanogenMod stock kernel though.

Can I install only the kernel on 4.1.2 leak? Because cyanogenmod does not support MHL and I don't wish to flash it.
On the NExus7 there is the Timurs kernel that allows OTG+charging at the same time. Do we have anything like this for the HDX (7")?
I'm using the fire in my car (permanently installed) and I need the OTG connection to an arduino (that parses the GMLan CANBUS packets) and I need to charge at the same time.
You got otg to work on your hdx? Sweet. As for charging, I am not sure. Sorry.

Whoa - OTG on an HDX? That would be a first! Please share how this was accomplished. Might provide a clue on how to enable simultaneous charging.
LOL, there is no OTG support running CM11 on it?
Honestly I just assumed that a modern tablet would have OTG support, guess I was wrong then. :/
lol, the guys are clearly too excited to read this properly; he was ASKING if OTG and charging were possible.
1) OTG - not at this time; there's been suggestions that it might be possible on WiFi devices but current kernels etc don't allow it and it's not THAT high on the priority list from what I've seen.
2) OTG on LTE models - there's been a suggestion that the power line usually provided to allow OTG might be diverted to the LTE module on those modules. Again, OTG might be possible with kernel support but devices attached would need to be powered on their own (or through a hub)
