I'm stuck at the bootloading screen on my Rezound, and I'm lost as to what to do. I was attempting to load the new RUU on my device but obviously, something went wrong. I believe I renamed the wrong file to PH98IMG.zip and screwed something up. I have tried to push the correct RUU file through ADB, but I can't get my device to show up. Is there a way to access my sd card so I can put the correct RUU file on my device?
Micro sd > sd adapter > USB card reader.
Or put your sd card into another phone and download the correct ph98img.zip file
Thanks. I was wondering if there was a way to access the sd card from the bootloader menu, but I guess I'll have to go out and buy a sd card reader tomorrow. Now I just hope I didn't permanently mess anything up by flashing a ROM file as PH98IMG.zip.
If you can get to bootloader it is recoverable
Ok, try this, while connected to a pc. Pull out sd card & battery while in hboot. Go to fastboot and make sure you got fasboot usb showing. Unlock bootloader(unless your on eng hboot or patched jb's hboot), download AmonRA 3.15 renamed to recovery.img, then do "fastboot boot recovery.img", but before pushing enter. Replace battery and sd card.
That will get you to where you can access the external SD card with its USB mounting.

You have not run a RUU. There is no RUU for ICS yet. A RUU is a Rom Update UTILITY (meaning, it is in the form of an EXE file run from a PC with the phone connected; and it does quite a bit more than a simply PKxxxx.zip flashover file).
Oddly, if you actually had a RUU, it would probably solve your problem.

Nice try.
PH98IMG.zip is contained within the RUU.exe....when extracted it is named Rom.zip. this file contains everything found in the PH98IMG.zip we flash in the bootloader. We just rename it it to the ph98img.zip
however, it is still an image file. It needs to be flashed, either the Utility, fastboot, or bootloader.
Without the image the Rom Updater Utility would be useless.
What ever name you want to call a ph98img...is still an image file.
But the post was good reading but still does not mean you proved a point or proved me wrong. or that it is not an image file.
Note: this post is not trying to say anyone is wrong.....

Anyway, there are 3, and only 3, RUU's for the Rezound:
http://www.filefactory.com/f/c2e320ee1d5c7886
Can't seem to get anyone to understand that; but like I said, its a losing battle.
If there WERE actually a RUU, I would gladly run it, because then that would properly replace all part of my GB install with ICS. Flashing this PHxxxx.zip image, will not do so (hence the need for the "old firmware fix").

What parts are you saying do not get replaced? I flashed the new leak yesterday specifically to upgrade from the gb firmware and it works fine without a patch. I'm running Nils ICS Business 3.4.
Just wondering.

i am stuck in the bootloader and cant get out. adb wont see it but i can see it in device manager. i f-ed my phone up so i relocked and ran the latest GB ruu and it failed and now i am stuck in the bootloader. it does say fastboot usb. any help would be great
Figure I'd try posting here, rather than start up a new thread. I tried looking for my specific problem but couldn't find it. Anyway, new to HTC and Rezound, coming from a rooted Droid X, so I'm familiar with flashing roms. My Rezound is completely stock.
I downloaded the most current ICS leak, RUU_Vigor_3.14.605.10. I put it on the root of my sd card, renamed it, and held power and down button. The phone loads the PH98IMG.zip for a few minutes, then proceeds to checking the PH98IMG.zip for a few minutes. After this is all done, I'm on the bootloader screen. Where to go from here? I thought the phone should have automatically rebooted? I clicked fastboot, then restart, which just brings me back to GB. I'm obviously missing an easy step here. Do I go into recovery, or somewhere else?
Thanks in advance guys. I hate being the new guy, late to the party.
Seemed to have figured it out. Had to re-download the leak on a different computer, and now my phone is updating itself. Weird. Finally get my hands on ICS.

I've flashed a couple PH98IMG.zips and they were for different things on my phone. one was a splashscreen and the other was an update (ICS Update to be exact). now isn't that supposed to be an RUUs job? to update the phone? there are a couple ways to update the phone, one being a new leaked stock rom through recovery, and another through hboot with a PH98IMG file.
So I have figured out that in order for my SD card to mount right (since it isn't mounting to my phone at all) and for my phone to stop bootlooping, I have to reflash an RUU. So I'm a bit of a noob still with this kind of stuff so please bear with me I just need someone to link the latest GB RUU for me and explain step by step on how to relock my phone....Please if someone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate!!! Actually it would be great if someone could also explain how to install the RUU step by step from beginning to end for me I would love that please I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Open terminal, cd to your adb and fastboot folder, and type fastboot oem lock that will relock the boot loader, as far as the RUU I can't help you step by step because I believe the GB RUU is a .exe and I have a Mac so idk, just run it and do what it says lol

You just have to flash the unlock token again you don't have to do the whole thing unless you deleted your unlock token.
If you flashed one of the ICS leaks, in order to go back to GB, you will have to be s-off or it will not work. If you are still on GB, then you have 2 ways to do it. You will need to have your bootloader locked and then download one of the 2.01.605.11 downloads HERE. Each one works a little differently. The one ending in exe is the full RUU that you will have to run on your computer with the Rezound connected witha data cable. The one ending in .zip can be put on your external sd card, renamed to PH98IMG.zip and will run when you reboot to your bootloader.
I used the Hasoon2000 tool kit. It has a relock button built in and is way easy to use with step by step instructions for unlock, root and s-off.

You should be able to flash the GB RUU if you only flashed the ICS rom. If you didn't flash an ICS leak, then you still have the GB firmware so should be good to go. There are some stock rooted GB out there too if those interest you.
EDIT: as mikey said..you need to be locked if you want to flash the RUU.

Wow thank you so so much. I have been searching forever for an .exe RUU for GB. It seemed like I was never going to find one. Thanks for the link man. I am downloading both right now. So as of right now, I have 2 .zip ROM files that I installed yesterday onto my external SD card. One is an ICS and the other is a stock 3.6 sense with android 4.0.4 i believe....Now when I change the name of the .zip file that I am now downloading, will my phone try and read the other ROMS on my SD card?? Or will it just read the PH98IMG.zip one since I changed the name of the file?

Ok yes, run the RUU, then you unlock your phone. When u unlocked your phone the first time, you had to flash An Unlock_code.bin file. Did you delete that? Or do u still have it? If you have it you can place it in your adb and fastboot folder, cd into that folder, and type
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
if you didn't keep it, you have to do the whole HTCDev unlock like you did the first time

Topgun, nope I didn't flash the ICS leaked RUU as soon as I rooted my phone, i thought I could go ahead and flash any ROM. just like i did with my dinc2. I know what the issue is. You don't need to flash An ICS RUU, you just need the SD patch, since ICS and GB have different mount points for the sd card. You can find that patch in slimrom's thread, or the cleanrom de thread. try flashing that in recovery before you relock and ruu, if you havent already. And if you flash the ICS RUU you only have to do it once not every time you flash a rom
edit, too slow....

The ICS RUU is not an EXE its just a zip. You rename it to PH98IMG.zip and place it on the SD card and Flash in HBoot. You just have to make sure to to flash it all the way because it reboots twice during the process i believe
Edit: to make it clearer, the GB RUU is an Exe, but all the ICS RUU's are zips
Gotta take the phone back to Sprint and I know they're not gonna like that it's rooted.
I haven't seen a guide yet on how to Unroot.

The RUU means OTA, right?
If so, I already tried flashing it thru TWRP and it didn't work.
If not, I just downloaded it. How do I run it?
Edit: I just watched a video on how to rub it using ADB, which is USUALLY no problem.. but I'm helping my brother do this over the phone who lives 700+ miles away from me and he has no idea how to do anything to do with phones.
So is there an easy way to run the RUU for even the biggest phone n00bs?
none
you put it on your sd-card, boot the phone to h-boot, make sure you get the right ruu for your bootloader, you will want to boot into BL and get that, then google it, I have seen these RUU's so I know there out there.
Download the right one, put it on the sd card, then when you boot into BL it will automatically grab it and run it. DO NOT touch your phone while it's running, if it loses power, it will brick it.
Afterwards delete the ruu file off the SD Card
Piece a cake

NO, a ruu is an exe that you run from a windows pc that your phone is plugged into. If he is that noob then its prob the easiest way for him. If he has hboot 1.12, then dl the oldest one. If he has any other hboot then just run the newest since it won't matter at that point.

Thank you for the updated info.
How do I know which HBoot each of those belong to?
I believe he has HBoot1.15. So I can just run the latest one, which would be:
RUU_JEWEL_CL_ICS_40_S_Sprint_WWE_2.13.651.1_Radio_1.12.11.0809_NV_SPCS_2.45_003_release_277028_signed.exe
?
Tried running 2 RUU's and have the same problem on both.
Keep getting the "Error 155" which according to the "View Read Me" is:
ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.
Any help?
EDIT:
Nvm I figured it out. I had to "fastboot oem lock" before running the RUU.
There are no clear instructions ANYWHERE on XDA on how to run the RUU's.

Get into recovery via fastboot in the bootloader after removing/replacing the battery and holding Power+VolumeDown until the bootloader screen appears.
After you are in recovery, either restore a nandroid backup of a configuration that you know works or "format all partitions except SD card" and flash a ROM.
If you don't have a working recovery, connect your phone in the bootloader fastboot mode to a PC with the ADB/fastboot files installed and flash a custom recovery using fastboot.

Just checked your OP and you said you have the locked stock 1.58 bootloader so you will need to install a custom bootloader like JBear 1.58.5858 to flash recovery from fastboot or use a PG86IMG.zip version of your recovery and flash it from the bootloader.

How did you get root and S-OFF? Flashing a custom recovery had to be part of that procedure.
Well, if you don't unlock your stock bootloader, which I don't recommend since there is no way to get it back to "locked" without doing the wire trick again, you will need to install a custom bootloader first as I indicated in my last post. You can try flashing the attached PG86IMG.zip version of 4EXT instead. Install it the same way you would an hboot.

I'm sorry I misunderstood what you said. I am on 4EXT recovery, I tried to re flash 4EXT which it aborts, try to flash rom it aborts, try restore..loads it fine then after restart stuck on HTC screen. Lost

At this point I'm totally confused about what your current problem(s) are versus what you reported in the OP of this thread. The "parsing" problem you mentioned was probably related to having a PG86IMG.zip file left in the root of your SD card and deleting it certainly shouldn't have affected anything else. I don't think there was anything actually completed from my subsequent posts in this thread that would affect your ability to flash a bootloader, recovery or ROM, so either something was already damaged on your phone, possibly by flashing something intended for another phone, or I'm just not understanding the terminology you are using to describe your problem.
Maybe someone else can jump in at this point and try to help you. It would probably help to post some screen shots or at the least the actual messages you are getting when the things you are trying fail.

Thanks for helping ram, sorry to confuse you with the wrong terminology, I'm new to this. I think I'll have sprint take a look at it. Thanks again man

Sorry I couldn't help you identify your problem. I edited my last post to suggest that you post what the actual messages are when you try to do different things and if you can do that it might be easier to figure out what is actually happening.

Your problem is kiind of confusing. Some Pics might help.
Had a similar issue on friends phone. Using another sdcard fixed the aborting issue. Had to format the sdcard to get it to function normally.

That's a great suggestion. If you recently did the wire trick your SD card could be corrupted and might need reformatting and restoring from your backup.
If that's the problem you could also try removing the SD card, then going into "fastboot usb" mode in the bootloader to flash recovery with the fastboot command since that doesn't require an SD card.

If this helps, after doing these steps above the problems started. I did delete all PG86IMG files then flashed JBear GB 1.50 (I thought you were giving me a link to downgrade to 1.5) but I am on 1.58 locked s-off. Now I can't flash anything it just aborts. Can't even reflash the recovery b/c it aborts that too.

How can you be on locked 1.58 hboot even after flashing GB 1.50 hboot? And you said it aborted. Are you sure you are flashing the hboot via your bootloader and not recovery?
If another sdcard or formatting it doesnot work (or you dont want to do that) or if you just dont want to go through any hassle, your simplest and best bet is to use RUU.

Although flashing an RUU won't fix a corrupted SD card so it that's the cause of all or part of his problems he's going to have to format and restore it or replace it with another card.

I don't think it's the sdcard b/c when I did the wire trick I used an older 2gb card, then swapped it out for a 16GB card and it worked fine untill this morning. I am going to have to run the RUU and start from scratch. Again, sorry for the confusion and thanks for the help guys.
So, I have a dilemma. I am currently S-ON running TACHYON 1.2 (Android 4.3)
HBOOT 2.28.0000
Radio 2.23.10.0123/4
I updated the hboot and radio while S-ON. Now, I've decided I'd like to go S-OFF. According to JuopunutBear I need to be on a stock RUU for their S-OFF to work. I tried running the newest ICS RUU a few weeks ago and found that it would just error out when it was checking the file because the radios and hboot on the phone were newer than the ones on the RUU. Can I step backwards in HBOOT versions whlie S-ON or have I kind of screwed myself? Or is there a better option I haven't thought about?
Thanks
Just install a stock Rom to run s-off program. You are on a stock hboot, so no problem there.

It's a stock hboot, yes. But the RUU won't run because it is an older version hboot.
You need s-off to downgrade. Just install a stock based Rom that is rooted and run s-off procedure. You will have no issues. After s-off if you want, you can ruu
Sent from my DNA using my mind.
Step 1 from Unlimited: Verify - You are on Stock RUU (not FreshROM, Stock Rooted, HarmonyROM - none of these will work!)
They say not to be rooted or anything. What difference does it make?
Also, what do you mean by "stock rom"? Is there a stock rom I can install that is not an RUU? (maybe that's a dumb question but I don't know lol)

A stock rooted RUU would work. I was in your predicament once. First, do a nandroid backup then use this guide it'll get you to s-off. If you want to downgrade, then use this guide to accomplish this.
Thanks guys for the help. Installed the rom listed in the guide and it worked great. S-OFF now!! (Took me long enough...I've had the phone for 2 years!)
It installed JuopunutBear's hboot but whatever. I'd probably rather stick with a stock hboot but I can do that later.
Restored my nandroid backup and I'm back up and running like I never left.
Just flash this ROM and boot image, and you should be able to S-OFF, I can't remember if stock recovery is needed but that can be flashed separately as well if needed, but I don't think it is.

So, All was well until I decided to flash the stock hboot back to the phone. I put the file on the sd card and renamed it ph98img.zip and flashed it in fastboot. It said it was successful and that I was running hboot 2.28 and radio 2.23.10.0123/4. Then I rebooted and it hung up at the white screen with green htc logo. I pulled the battery and rebooted holding the power and volume buttons. It booted to fastboot so I tried a few things. I tried flashing a recovery but it said that remote was not allowed and failed. Then I tried opening the recovery I already had on the phone from fastboot and it gave me the software download icon. Nothing happened so I pulled the battery and tried to boot back to fastboot. This time it wouldn't even get to fastboot. The white screen with HTC logo comes up and then the screen goes blank. Then the software download icon comes up and then shortly there after a red triangle with an exclamation point takes its place.
That went downhill fast! Any suggestions?
EDIT: Pulling the SD card allows me to get back into fastboot! But I'm still not sure what to do. Is it because my bootloader is locked?

In fastboot does it say s-off? Try manually flashing the boot.img by extracting it. If you haven't setup enviroment variable for fastboot put the boot.img in the same directory as fastboot.exe and use command prompt by typing
Code:
cd C:\Android\platform-tools (or wherever it is for you)
Then type
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
I was able to put an RUU on another sd card and flash that. So now I'm on ICS 4.03.605.2 and running. But I still haven't solved my recovery problems.
According to this thread: androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/550408-s-off-guide-info-return-stock.html
I can either use juopunutbear's hboot (which I just flashed over the top of) to flash a new recovery or I can compile a recovery in a ph98img file (which I don't know how to do or want to do).
My question is: What happens if I unlock my bootloader while S-OFF? (Yes, it says s-off on the bootloader screen.) Will that solve my problem or do I have to go back to juopunutbear's hboot?

You can unlock when S-OFF, but there is no reason to, you can get a PH98img.zip of CWM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914215 or TWRP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902381 and just copy it to your sd card (remember to name it exactly PH98IMG.zip, beware the Windoze "double zip" issue) then pop it in the phone, boot into Hboot with the USB disconnected and it should recognize it and flash either CWM or TWRP. from there you can flash ANYTHING you want, being S-OFF with custom recovery allows you to flash anything, no fastboot commands required.
Also, since you are S-OFF, your Hboot is mostly irrelevant, but should be the matching version to your radios... an engineered hboot (like Juopunutbears) would allow fastboot commands well locked, but fastboot isn't generally needed once S-OFF has been obtained...
Try this. no wire even, works great.

and what recovery problems are you having....flashing an hboot will not give you a recovery...and an ruu is an exe file not a ph98img file...those are OTA's.....if you need pure stock i can easily help you obtain it....i just need to know what exactly your trying to achieve

Hey REV3NT3CH,
So, thanks to the help of so many in these parts, including you, I now think I'm S-Off and I'm very interested in bringing my phone up to the latest, completely stock OTA ROM. Can you help me with that?
Thanks!
cheers,
