Ok, I know it's a known issue, but does anyone know a permanent fix for this that doesn't require disabling Google Now? I shouldn't have to do something like that just to get auto-rotate to work.
Thanks.
UPDATE:
It seems that Disabling both Google Now & Location settings fixes the issue. Since disabling them both I haven't had any issues. Still, I shouldn't have to do that to get auto-rotate to stop working.
It seems that this is an issue that has affected other users. It's so weird, and I hope a permanent solution is found soon.
Try flashing the factory image. If you still have a rotation issue your device is probably defective and you should rma it.

So I did that, didn't fix it. I flashed a ROM, Dirty Unicorns, and that didn't fix it.

Hello friends,
I am actually a Sense convert, thanks to the combo of CM10 and AOKP, found in ROMs like JellyBam and PAC Man...
The ONLY thing that's making me unable to use those ROMs as my Daily Driver, is the following issue:
1. Turn on 3G and GPS togther
2. Launch map and choose a place to Navigate to (Navigation is launched)
3. EVERYTHING LOCKS PERFECT! My turn by turn is now ready
4. Give it a minute or two on the road and BOOM! The phone loses signal, 3G is cut off, GPS loses its lock, and I am stranded in the middle of my destination
Give it a minute or two... sometimes minutes on end, and the GPS locks again (after signal is restored and 3G returns), but shortly soon after, the issue repeats itself.
Now, can someone please confirm for me that that is indeed a CM10/AOKP bug and all of you have this issue? Trust me, I have tested it in MANY areas, it's not a weak signal issue. If I only have my 3G on, the connection is RARELY lost (probably with bad signal), but when GPS is used WITH 3G, it's almost UNUSEABLE and dangerous to navigate with, due to the loss of attention from the road and losing your turns ALL THE TIME!
I would appreciate any help on people confirming that I am not alone on this one, and that if you guys know any fixes or workarounds for this? I would love to offer a Logcat even, but personally, I have given up on Devs never willing to do that for the issues I have reported in the past. Not complaining, just saying they are busy or just don't want to help me with Logcats.
Thank you and I hope everyone is well. Appreciate you guys reading the message.
I've been on cm10 for over a month and have never had that problem. I've used navigation for 2 hours straight without a hitch.
Are you on the cm nightlys? I use the irc builds.

Download GPS status and toolbox from the play store. Menu, reset, then you're good. I've had this problem once and it hasn't come back since doing this.

I am suffering from the same issue, it persists for me on all CM10 builds and JellyBAM. I think I did what you said, but the bug did occur again (while using nav, gps and 3g signal goes out for a few minutes). I just wanted to double check what you were suggesting. When you say menu, reset, do you just mean reseting the phone after installing the GPS status and toolbox, or is there a menu option in GPS status and toolbox I'm not seeing?
Thanks,

He means download the app. Open the app. Then hit menu from within the app. Choose reset. Then close the app. Then reboot your phone and try your GPS.

Thanks for the quick response. Maybe I'm being stupid (I hope I am), but I do not see the reset option when I hit menu from within the app. I see Tools, Share, Radar, and Settings. Is it the Tools-> Manage A-GPS state -> Reset?
Thanks again.

Yea I'm thinking that's it. I'm not a 100% sure as I've not had this issue or a need to use the app. However that would seem to be it. If that fails look threw the settings for anything that has the reset option. Also being cautious is never stupid. Hope this helps.

Yes, that was it. How on earth did someone know to do that based on just that symptom?? Why is there no way to do a GPS reset like that via the system menus?

Hi Guys,
I have observed a strange behaviour.
Like after long duration of Wifi usage when I switch Wifi off, phone doesn't go back to mobile Internet automatically.
But after short duration like 5 min or so it has no problem switching automatically.
So I have to always go into flight mode n come back when it happens, which is kind of annoying sometimes.
I tried to find some settings in Wifi and searched through various threads but no success. I don't know this behaviour is due to some timeout feature or what.
Please share if someone experience anything similar or point me to right direction.
Cheers

Modem issue? Try updating or reflashing to the latest for your country. If it only fails after a long period of wifi then it could be some kind of memory leak.
If that doesn't help then try wiping and reflash your rom.
To me its related to software rather than hardware issue. I flashed EMC2 still behaved same then back to EMC3 doing same thing.

By software then, you mean applications? It's certainly possible - but you'll need to isolate the application causing the problem. Start with a complete nandroid backup so you've a point to return to. Then do a clean reflash, and add the apps back in one at a time until the problem returns. Then you can restore the nandroid backup and remove the offending application.
Hey guys, ever since flashing a custom ROM onto my Verizon GS4, I've had issue with getting my phone's location. Given the location options on 4.4.3, the phone is able to get a rough location on the High Accuracy setting but can't do anything under Device Alone. As such, I'm pretty sure it's the GPS having issues. Others have had compass problems with the ROM I'm currently on, but everyone seems to be able to get a GPS lock when I can't. I've done a dirty flash, a clean flash, and even redownloaded the .zips from other locations in case the file was bad, but nothing has solved my problem. I use my phone's location settings for a variety of apps, so I'd really like to get it working again. Does anyone know of diagnostics I could perform? My hope is that it's just a software issue, and that I didn't do any permanent damage to the hardware. Thanks for the help!
(also, I'm posting here because I'm new to the forum and can't post in the developer threads yet)
Try faster fix in the play store. I've used it with several roms on several phones and it is very good

I looked up the fix you're talking about. Others seem to have had success through the gps status apps available on the playstore. Unfortunately, they didn't have any effect on my phone. I'm still stuck at searching for GPS on any app that uses it. Those who had success seem to have had it with a ROM that originally worked, but lost the ability to successfully connect. My issue seems to be in the ROM itself, or at least that's what makes sense to me. Thanks for the advice and trying to help.

I have tried faster GPS (running 4.4.4, so faster fix is a no-no) with no success. It replaces the file detailing GPS information and the like, but I'm still stuck searching for GPS permanently.

I'm having trouble with smart lock working while at home. I set it up a few days ago by adding my home location as a trusted place. It worked ok for a day but now no matter what I do I can't get it to work again. I've been through all the steps to set it up again by making sure it's turned on in trust agents & making sure my home location is added in maps. I have GPS on. I've tried GPS in high accuracy and battery saving mode, restarted phone many times. I just can't figure out why it worked on day one of lollipop install but not anymore. I'm running stock rooted zv8 build that's available in the development thread.
Anyone else experiencing problems with smart lock or have any ideas why I might be having issues with it? :banghead:

I have the same issue, it used to fix itself whenever I left and came back home but that doesn't seem to work anymore. Rebooting the phone seemed to mess it up for me and I had to leave and come back for it to fix itself, when that worked. I'm running the latest Validus so it isn't just an issue with the stock rom.
Good to know it's not just me I guess. Really wish I could get it figured out though, it's one of the best features of lollipop.

I'm not sure, but I think Selinux mode changer fixes that. Set it to permissive.
I can't remember for sure how people fixed it.

Well I downloaded SElinux mode changer and set it to permissive and rebooted. Smart lock still wont work for me. This is really frustrating. I hate to clean install the rom again in hopes of fixing it but I might have to.

Try just wiping cache and dalvik cache it will force everything to restart worse comes to worse I guess you will need to wipe.
When it's not working for you, are you sure your GPS is actually getting a good location fix? Mine stops working randomly.

Hi fokls,
I recently updated to 5.1 ( Lollipop). I am on Tmobile and for some reasons, the mobile data setting kept getting disabled frequently.
Anyone knows what to do to fix the issue. I have tried pure stock as well as with root. None of them seems to fix the issue.

Just want to confirm, I have this problem too. Also on T-Mobile.
Edit: is it really just the setting that gets disabled? I have been rebooting to fix it.

Why don't you enable airplane mode and then disable instead of rebooting. It might work.

I tried that, it didn't work. I'm waiting on it to happen again to see if I can just re-enable mobile data.
Even if I can, this is still a very annoying problem. You'll miss a lot of emails, and messages. Yet another reason you might not want Lollipop

Its strange though. But if you go to the setting, then mobile data, you will see that it is turned off. Turning it back on, will re-enable it. I dont know why it does it though. No need for air plane toggle.
Is there any possibility this problem could be tied to a default power-saving setting that is turning mobile data off to conserve battery?
Just a thought.

I did two things, but I haven't had this happen since I did them.
1. Renamed HwPowerGenieEngine3.apk and HwPowerGenieEngine3.odex to disable them. (just add .bak to the end) They are located in "root/system/app/HwPowerGenieEngine3/" and "/<SAME/ARM/"
2. Enabled the option in Mobile Network settings to "Always-on mobile data"
Like I said, I don't know for sure if either really fixed it, but I haven't been having this problem for the past 2 days.
#1 . do I need root to rename the files?

I have no answer for you but, I am on T-Mobile and that's not happening to me. My WiFi becomes disabled sometimes/rarely. Also USB debugging gets disabled as soon as I back out of the settings for it. This is on B309.
My friend and I both using HAM2 on Wind, still on 4.3. Phone signal (not only Data) frequently turned itself off, then turned back on after a minute or longer.
Could it be the AWS (1700) frequency not reacting well to Huawei power genie?
I tried using "Normal" instead of "Smart" power saving scheme but no joy. Just froze "Power Genie" app via Titanium Backup. I think it turns the power saving feature off completely. Will monitor to see if it helps. I'll trade network stability for shorter battery life.
Apparently this problem is getting worse with Lollipop update.
