Hello everyone! i have a strange problem with my Samsung s3 phone. the problem is when i connect my mobile via usb to my computer it won't detect my phone for USB storage but it charge my phone. a similar thread has been posted on this forum but solutions given there don't seem to be helpful for me. I've tried these methods to get it worked but failed.
changed USB cable and ports.
Ticked unticked USB debugging
and a member on this forum posted a code which was like *#7284# or *#7248# to change USB part of this utility from modem to PDA. but there is no USB option in this Utility it only shows UART which has these options.
Modem
PDA
Default selected option was PDA so i changed it to modem and rebooted my phone but still no luck...! Worst part of my problem is my system even won't feel there is something connected to the systemcomputer. Please Help!
Please somebody help.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Hi Everyone
First of all I'd like to thank everyone who contributes to this wonderful community. It made it very easy for a complete newcomer like me to install the Modaco custom rom on my hero and I've found answers to nearly all my other queries in the forums here.
I now have a problem I can't fix though and was hoping for some advice or help.
When I plug my Hero into my computer via the USB cable Windows has now started saying "USB device not recognised" and the phone does not acknowledge the connection other than charging. The error message says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it".
I've tried all the USB ports and other USB devices and they work fine so I think it must be related to the phone. Tried powering off the PC and phone numerous times but hasn't helped.
I'm confused as it was working fine until recently and I can't think of what I've changed.
Can anyone help or offer any suggestions?
Thanks!
Just realised I've put this in completely the wrong forum. Sorry!
Can it be moved or should I repost in the correct forum?
Cheers
Thread moved
to Q&A
hope this helps
Thanks Liamhere.
Update- tried it on my work PC with same result.
I guess it confirms it's either the wire or the phone?

Try to download the HTC drivers from the HTC support or Android 1.6 SDK and reinstall the USB driver again.
Thanks for your suggestions and anyone else who has been racking their brains for me.
It was, after loads of fiddling with settings and drivers etc aproblem with the USB wire.
My new one arrived in the post and now the phone syncs up fine. Phew!
Old wire is now relegated to "charging only" duties.
I have a rooted stock ICS SGS2. Since a couple of weeks my USB connection on my laptop isn't working anymore. When I connect the SGS2 to USB, nothing happens on the phone and nothing happens on the laptop.
No "unknown device", no "USB connection" beep, no USB connection on the phone.
I tried a differtent cable, didnt work. I tried on another PC, didnt work.
I change developer USB-settings (USB error check) but didnt work.
I searched a lot, but couldn't find any solution. Can anyone please help me?
P.S. Running on Windows 7 64x Professional

does your phone charge when conneted to the computer, you do not need drivers for that. If it does not try cleaning the usb port on your phone, there maybe dust or something stopping the cable from making ful contact.
Hi,
I had a similar problem ,
1-first try to check in parmater section -> stockage if usb debugging is on
2-Second try to reinstall kies for drivers
3-> change cable or clean your usb port with a toothbruch (slightely hhhh)
4-> if nothing of these solutions works and you get an unknow device also with odin that means youre usb port is broken, it simple to change and dont cost a lot (170 MAD for me ).
There are other threads that spoke about the same problem.Hope it works
My phone charges when connected. I also tried re-installing Kies and cleaned the phone port. Nothing helped
As mentioned before, i tried lots of USB ports, also other PC's and other cables. Still not working.
Any clue?
If you've tried 'everything', then it's a hardware issue. Unroot it, reset the flash counter, send it in for warranty service.
Hi guys i recently bought a galaxy s3 and i'm trying to connect it with my PC to transfer songs apk's movies and etc. The thing is tha when i first tried to connect it i got a message that a file is missing with the name "wsadb.sys" after a little search i learn that it needs kies for the connection so i install the program and after i tried again i got another message a different one this time :
"Cannot Install this Hardware.
There was a problem installing this hardware: MTP Device
An error occurred during the installation of the device.
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

"Cannot Install this Hardware.

isn't there any one else who had the same problem?
Haven't had this problem myself.
But what you can try is going to device manager and there searching for you phone and removing the drivers.
Then install the samsung USB drivers or KIES. And after that connecting your phone.
You can also try another USB port. And try to switch between USB2 and 3 ports. Sometimes the USB3 drivers installed can make a fuss with the connection.
I hope this helps
Kies give away, only drivers
Then start the download or cwm and connect to pc.
Pc installs/driwers,mtp/ itself in this mode

This is just a repeat of usual answers posted to this question
use Samsung USB cable
clean your usb ports
use mainboard usb port
delete all drivers from the usb port totally remove Kies and re install
Backup data and factory reset phone .
Use another PC .
Take to a service centre .
Hi,
i have a strange problem with my S2. i can get a connection with kies and myphoneexplorer. all works fine. but when i put my phone into download mode (usb debugging on, all tasks of kies killed) it says "unknown device". i tried several reinstallations of kies and drivers. i changed my usb cable. i used two other computers. nothing worked.
there is one thing, when i connect with usb, it says it is possible to get a faster connection (somehow i cannot use usb 2.0???). i transfer data with 700kb/s (i think this is to slow?) but my computer works fine with other usb tools (extern hdd works with 25mb/s). maybe the usb port of my phone is broken? but it charges and as i said i can get a connection in normal mode and transfer data. i
so help me out here
There's some help on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600497
Searching helps!
well, i am not that stupid, of course i found some threads with a similiar problem. but the solutions (clean usb port or connect through kies first etc.) ain't helping for me ...
Replace USB board/port. Search for KeithRoss39's guide in General section; has all the info you need, quick/easy/cheap (<AUD$10 for me) to do yourself.
i am gonna try that
but normal mode is working and charging too, so i guess it won't be the usb port.
but to rule it out, i will do it :good:
You'll often see some things will work/some won't when the board is on the fritz, they don't always die completely.
thanks,
that worked i could finally install the needed drivers in download mode :cyclops:
No worries. Glad you got it sorted
I have a samsung galaxy s3 with stock firmware. I've hade a few custom roms before but put it back to stock for some reasons. But now odin does't recognize my phone. Drivers are up to date, the usb cable is the same, other phones are detected (s2 and s5). i have tried other cables including from other s3's from the box. I tried to root it from sd but still no luck, so i can't put custom rom from sd. Is there any way to put a rom from sd without rooting? it can be stock, it doesn't matter(i'm stuck with stock recovery). Also I consider myself a noob, so any explanation would be appreciated. Thank you
No, there isn't. Try another pc or resolve the usb conflict on the pc.

The same thing on other PC's.
I can only suggest following the guide on how to flash with Odin very carefully, then try searching for similar posts that got resolved.
However, most I've read were due to drivers or leads -if your phone connects normally in MPT mode but not in download mode then it's unlikely to be the s3 is faulty.

It charges only...doesn`t connect in any way. Seems like i have to visit a service?
Same here!
Having exactly the same issue here! When connected by usb cable to the computer, theres no USB connection on the status bar. Just the ray symbol on battery to demonstrate the USB is connected.
I need to change my ROM, but even Odin didnĀ“t recognise my phone.
Some clue?
Thanks!
Ps: sorry for my poor English....
