Every ROM install gets stuck at boot - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I've been messing with this all day, to no avail.
When I first got my M8, I unlocked it and installed Android Revolution HD 7.0. As part of the process, I created a backup of the stock ROM.
Everything worked fine until I decided today that I wanted to update to a custom ROM with Lollipop. I tried the newest version of Android Revolution HD and SkyDragon, several times each, and every time it got stuck on the boot screen. The only way I can fix it is restoring to the stock ROM.
As part of my troubleshooting process today, I went from S-ON to S-OFF and changed my CID. Still, nothing worked.
I also tried to update my recovery to a newer version of TWRP and broke it for a while. Mysteriously, when I tried to install CWM from the Play app, it ended up restoring my old version of TWRP.
I downloaded an older (pre-Lollipop) version of Android Revolution and tried to install that to get back to what I was used to, but that was unsuccessful as well.
Can someone please walk me through this process?

I don't think so. I'm on 4.4.2. I tried upgrading to 4.4.4 with the instructions from another thread, but had issues with that as well.

I used this thread that you linked previously: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/att-4-4-4-firmware-signed-encrypted-t3031703
The first ZIP was corrupted, even after a second download.
I don't recall the error on the stripped down one, but I can mess with it again later today.
Do you have any other links for the firmware?
So if I need to install 4.44 before changing ROMs, do I also need to install 5.0 separately?

Woo, it worked this time! I almost thought it was stuck again, but it managed to get through.
I'm on a custom ROM with 4.4.4 now. What do I need to do to get up to 5.0? Do I just flash a 5.0 ROM, or do you have a 5.0 firmware that I flash first?

Idk of hand if there is lollipop firmware for Att as I'm not a Att user just helping out. So either try an flash a device compatible ROM an see what happens or see if there is L firmware but it should work on 4.4.4 firmware. Should that is. What twrp version r you using? I would fastboot flash the latest one for your device.

I've successfully updated to SkyDragon v37 (5.0)!
I guess the missing piece of the puzzle was just that 4.4 upgrade, immediately followed by a ROM update prior to reboot.
Thanks so much.

How to update rom and firmware

So i was on 4.4.2 with the rom not3 free deox, i use teamwinreocvery to wipe and install roms. I could noy figure out how to go 4.4.4, so i downloaded the stock 4.4.4 and did a nand erase while installing stock 4.4.4. Then i rooted my phone, installed the superchain su, and installed teamwi , and installed thr same rom for 4.4.4. Is there an easier way to upgrade the firmware? And how can i update the rom if there are updates

Seems now a days modems, firmware and bootloaders are more tightly entwined, unlike previous galaxy models (I used Epic and S3). So Odin'g latest and then re-rooting is the best method. Of course this may change in the future.
Speaking of bootloaders i know thst its locked for the note 3, but when i had 4.4.2 i downloaded some sort of bootloader. When it started up it would take up half of the screen on the left side with words and numbers like reason to boot power, test xx normal. In black and white. I needed it to roit 4.4.2 but i cant find it anywhere now, do i even need it

That was called the Engineering Bootloader, and I haven't seen an updated one for 4.4.4, either. I know that on some ROMs, updates were broken when trying to flash while on the Engineering bootloader (that's why I personally went back to the stock bootloader).
I know the engineering bootloader was advertised as being future-proof in terms of being able to flash modems in a custom recovery (TWRP, CWM, Philz, etc.). I haven't heard of any problems flashing various modems while using a stock bootloader, so I don't think it's really required.

Here is a post I created when helping someone with installing custom ROMs. It has clear directions on how to update based on Odin.

4.4.4

New firmware is out NJ6. I can't get the OTA yet but it is available from KIES. Hopefully this will solve all of my signal issues.
I saw this on sammobile as well...most likely this will close the current root loophole...will wait patiently until an awesome developer can create a rooted 4.4.4 rom.
Yes, I did lose root but that is okay with me if it helps my signal. Haven't been able to test it in problem areas yet.

I actually have 4.4.4 rooted right now on my device but safestrap doesn't work properly now. It starts to load but then reboots into OS.
The first 4.4.4 rom I made would boot, but only had a black screen (kernel modules didn't match boot.img), then I tried the nj6 boot.img and got the warning about unauthorized kernel. So, I decided to try one more thing. I reflashed the pre-rooted 4.4.4 rom I made and then flashed all of the 4.4.4 firmware in Odin EXCEPT for the system partition. This allowed me to boot into my rooted nj6 4.4.4 rom.

How do I get it on my phones have 2 Note 3's in my house. It's not available on Kies or OTA in my Texas area. Not rooted phones.. or just wait some more?? Thanks
We're actually getting an update inline with other carriers? Anyone noticing any improvements? And do we have any idea when it'll push OTA?
Can someone post up just the radio?

I was having the same issue when I tried to port Sprint 4.4.4 It would boot but I get black screen... Are you sure you flashed the 4.4.4 bootloader?
I would try to make a deodex 4.4.4 system flashable zip and flash and then right after it reboot to odin and flash the 4.4.4 kernel might work without flashing the bootloader and that way we have a working SS.
Kind of a newb to Note 3 firmware upgrades. I just downloaded the new NJ6 firmware from Sammobile. What's the best way to flash this?

If you're a newb I recommend to stay out of it if you want root and ss. We waited all this time we can wait more to have a stable rooted with ss working version

The only way to tell if it will work is to have someone flash just the system when its a flashable zip and then reboot to download and flash kernel via odin

I tried that and it didn't work. The NC4 bootloader won't let you use the NJ6 boot.img. It gives the unauthorized software message.

Update to MM after using rooted, debloated stock ROM

I just got the MM update warning on my V10. Currently using Stock, debloated, rooted ROM. I'm thinking I want to upgrade to stock MM 6.0. I tried the install but it rebooted into the customs recovery. How can I get the MM upgrade to work from the custom ROM I am on?

First you'll need a new recovery TWRP 3.0.2
Second - You'll need to delete the ota update because once you "accidentally" install it you'll cry that you cant root and want to downgrade back to LP.
C. Go to the Dev section and Download the Rom that was built using the ota i just told you to delete. You'll be much happier with a Rom rather than a OTA update thats non-rootable.
Oh..theres also multiple threads regarding the ota.. Doing a simple search wouldve made things a lot easier.
Heres the link to the MM T-Mobile H901 V20E Rom.

Well the OP of the link I posted updated his 1st post. But since you're rooted you should just be able to follow the instructions.
1. Update your recovery to TWRP 3.0.2 (GROGG's build)
2. Download the Rom. Its a 2 part Download. So you'll need Part 1 and Part2 build 005
Dont flash anything until youre certain your recovery is 3.0.2 otherwise you might end up bricking or certain partitions might not be flashed.
If anything read the link OP a few times.

None custom ROM is working, G925W8 Canada, any idea guys?

Hello,
Tried all ROMS, none is working, below is the detail:
Installed
1 . CRISSCROSS ROM - no audio, while on call in earpiece and loudspeaker
2 . XtreStoLite-ROM-3.3.1-DPDP.zip ROM, Problem - AFter flash Phone model shows G925F AND NO CONNECTION TO NETWORK, EMERGENCY CALLS ALL TIME, TRIED flashing MODEM for g925w8 no LUCK
3. KIngfisher ROM, after flashing Kingfisher ROM, phone is STUCK AT
*KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING* and phone will not turn ON.
SO , I guess there is NO working CUSTOM ROM fOR G925W8,canada. At the end I flashed stock BOJ7 AND Phone is working perfectly with 5 1 1 G925W8 BOJ7
I'm using the G925W8 on Xtrestolite. You must be missing something. I'm not sure what though

3 what is your baseband verison now?
4 Was it rooted already?
5 Does this rom have spanish langauage? can you check for me?
Thank you
@Administr4tor
Custom ROMs for that work for W8
I've have confirmation from multiple users that my OZOP Rom is compatible and working flawlessly for the following devices Flat and Edge (rom is Edge based) F/I/T/W8. Could be more this are just the confirmed working devices.
Also OZOP is currently very active with development and actually about to be updated!
What ever Rom you decide is up to you.
Just letting you know there are options available.
Good luck
I believe you need to update your bootloaders using a stock 6.0.1 image or flash them via odin.
Also look in the T mobile section for a custom kernel like stang has a rom showing for. Our devices were basically secondhand tmobile rebranded as W8. Everything is literally the same minus us canadian guys cant use wifi calling.
So in short flash rom, then kernel and let it boot. Once it boots then turn it off and restart into recovery and flash call fix. If you need an updated callfix I can post a link here.
I found if you flash all three before first boot the zip from callfix creates a bootloop. Therefore it tells me the zip needs to be flashed over a built system

So the best I've been able to do is get it on a custom rom with no network connection at all. Seems like Im losing the ability to get it working. I tried Wind, telus stock 6.0.1's and i get the SW rev error, I've tried Rogers 5.1.1, and I get the same. Only thing that flashed on my device was "AP_G925W8VLU2AOG2_CL4808800_QB5701859_REV02_user_low_ship.tar" but it didn't boot past Galaxy S6 Edge logo, and recovery wasn't loading to try and factory reset to continue boot. Any ideas to my posts above?
guaranteed it's the bootloader and modem.
Once you flash the 6.0.1 ones via ODIN, then both crisscross and xtrolite should work. Crisscross, you will need to flash an independent audio fix which Christ have provided you in the post above.
Xtrolite (which I'm using with Twisted V4 Kernel) has it integrated so you shouldn't have any audio problems. Mind you, if you're still having trouble. Flash back 5.1.1 stock kernel and then let it update officially via samsung kies or OTA. Our phones now have 6.0.1 release so once you do that, you'll automatically have the new 6.0.1 bootloader and modem for our 925w8 phones. Then it'll be simple to flash a custom rom at that point.
Just update stock system to Marshmallow 6.0.1 (or flash stock 6.0.1 via Odin), then flash TWRP, do standard wipe with TWRP (Data, Cache and Dalvik), flash XtreStoLite via TWRP and everything will work
I have canadian S6 Edge and XtreStoLite is working very good

issue is I can't make the 6.0.1 stock files flash, always getting the SW rev error when cm.bin tries to flash, I've tried, Rogers, Wind, Telus stock files, nothing works. On CrissCross right now but not service... I want to get back to stock or at least make the bootloader work.
EDIT: Apparently using the most recent koodo stock, got me back to stock rom and with service! Now to root and do the custom rom properly! Thanks all!

THIS G925W8 is working perfectly in 5 1 1 , I was able to make calls to all networks including GSM and WCDMA, I checked IMEI status with code 197328640 and IMIE status is OK, then after I flashed 6 0 1 and then the IMIE status turns to NOT GOOD and I am unable to make calls and stuck at EMERGENCY CALLS, looks like this PHONE IS JACKED??

Can't flash stock rom

Hi guys,
I really need help here. I have a SGP312, bootloader unlocked, and I'd like to get back to stock rom 10.7.A.0.228 because I need MHL-Output and this doesn't work with any custom rom I tried. Here's the problem: I can get into fastboot and into flash mode but nothing I try is working. If I use flashtool the and flash latest XperiFirm ROM for SGP312 everything is running fine until I try to boot. The Sony logo appears and then nothing happens. Once I waited for over 30 minutes. Screen stays on but it's not booting.
So back to flashing recovery...in recovery I can flash ALL custom roms I want. LineageOS, crDroid, CyanogenMod, no problem. If I try to flash this: "https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-tablet-z/general/stock-10-7-0-228-vmo-t3303365" I have same problem as described before. Sony logo pops up, screen stays on, no boot.
Also I tried different recoveries TWRP, CWM, Phil's and so on and nothing seems to work. With wipes without wipes does not matter...
And I tried Sony flash tool Emma (with rom for SGP11) and I tried with TWRP to flash a backup of 10.7.A.0.228 I made...both with same results
Can anyone help? I just want to go back to Android 5.1.1 (root preferred but if no root it's also okay) or I need a custom rom with working MHL. Does anyone have the one clue that can get me back to stock rom?
Thanks guys!

It's a known issue, especially after coming from android 7.x.x ROMs.
You need to flash ANY stock ROM except 5.1.1. 4.1.2 or 4.4.2 will do. After the ROM boots ok, you can flash 5.1.1 directly via Flashtool 0.9.18.6.
It will work.

Thank you very much! I'll give that a try. Right now I'm having problems with flashtool 0.9.23.2. It gives me the "Processing of loader.sin finished with errors" and "Error in processHeader : 1" when I try to flash. Drivers are installed correctly, tablet z is recognized as "Sony sa0107". I'm running Windows 10 64bit and flashtool as admin.
Any ideas?

Thank you! I'll give that a try as soon as I have time. If that also does not work I'll try flashing with my Macbook. Maybe my Windows computer really has some driver issues.

Hi Rootk1t,
thanks for the tip! It worked. I went from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 prerooted although I had to do this with a Macbook. Even version 0.9.18.6 didn't want to flash my SGP312. I think the drivers on my windows machine are really messed up. But now everything is fine!
Thanks again!
Do you have any hints for me where I can find older stock versions?

So where did you find the stock 4.4.4 for SGP312? Every single thing I find, links are dead. Thanks

I'm gonna check as soon as get home. All I remember is, that I was searching a long time because, as you said, all links were dead. Maybe I still have the ROM somewhere in my files. I'll get back to you.

This was exactly what I needed, thanks! Couldn't flash anything on my SGP311 with the latest Flashtool, but followed your advice and had no issue.

Just for the search engine: 5.0.2 didn't work for me either - same symptoms as with 5.1.1. Going back to 4.4.4 worked.

Thank you SO much! I have been flashing umpteen versions with no luck and now with a very ancient "store front" version I'm back up and running! Thanks!
I'm sorry but I can't find any suitable firmware for SGP312.
I'm currently on Android 5.1.1 (Build 10.7.A.0.228, Germany/EU if that matters), and I'd really like to try to upgrade it to LineageOS 15.1 for all kinds of reasons; but in case that I botch anything (or the apps I really need don't work, like the screen time manager, as it's the kids' device), I really want to have a working firmware at hand to at least recover it back.
Kinda-noob question: do I really need a flashable firmware or would a full nandroid backup work for a rollback once I have TWRP installed?

For a kids device, i would recommend to stay on sony stock 5.1.1, because games run faster there, also it is already tried and tested with easy root installation and debloating.
To revert back from custom ROM (LOS or RR) to stock you'll need to flash firstly any firmware (like 4.4.4) except the latest 5.1.1, then boot it, and afterwards update to 5.1.1 if you want so. If you revert straight to the latest 5.1.1 stock, you'll get permanent bootloop or black screen issue.
So you need to have at least two stock firmware packages.
As for nandroid backup, you can't revert from custom rom to stock via restoring nandroid backup.
Fresh install is recommended.
