I have noticed multiple threads about this when searching. Seems people mainly have touch screen sensitivity issues when using some type of tempered glass, and when they remove it, the issue goes away. Now obviously this is a hardware/software issue on LG's part, but I would like to take a poll. I am surprised no one has come up w/ a method to increase the touch sensitivity via software modding. Thanks guys!
Note: I have the iloome flex on mine, which is very thin, and still have the issues. Trying to figure out if I should remove it and flush that $ down the drain, but I will if it will fix the problem.

I bought the $7 White colored Glass screen protector off of eBay from China for me and a friend and we both have the same issue. It looks cool but I rather have to press a little harder in the corners to have the screen protected that extra little bit. I did find that it does respond and work easier without a case on though.
The vzw glass is trash, the zero lemon glass works pretty good. I can't say I have no issues, but its pretty rare. Its always the same spot, but I think its how the case rides on the glass in that area causing the rare issue.
The vzw glass it was many areas, and I was constantly rotating the phone to get letters where they worked. I think it lasted 2 days before I threw it in the trash.
Went back to my tried and true extreme guard film protector from eBay, no issues. Got the zl glass when I got the zl battery months ago, been happy ever since.
Had a 0.3mm icarez protector that got removed when I a warranty issue and had to send it in to get fixed (nothing related to screen). They (LG) removed it. I used the phone for a couple weeks naked and definitely noticed an increase in sensitivity. Then tried 0.2mm icarez and noticed little if no change, basically MUCH better than 0.3mm. My 0.02
My iCarez 0.2mm protector cracked itself while I was flying across to Seattle. iCarez promised to replace it but never did. It protected the screen anyway, until I removed it last week. The screen sensitivity was pretty unreliable, particularly at the upper edge, but removing the cracked iCarez made no difference.
I loosened the screws a bit in the back and that might have helped. It was so bad I could not glyph hack In Ingress !

The .3 vs the .2 is the difference for my phone. With a .2 thickness it is identical to having nothing on the glass.

I had the .3 VZW glass one and did have a few occassional, minor issues. The .2 Icarez and the .2 iloome have both been fine for me. No issues at all.
Its random for me.....there are days where nothing register on the keyboard and sometimes its only the edges...? I have the zagg glass one

Ok, I guess I may have a problem with my screen (again). After removing one of those gadgetshieldz protectors (wet apply) the screen looks weird, especially when displaying white. It looks like there's some dirt on it making it look pixelated and greyish, while just a couple of weeks ago the whites were super crisp. It really seems like it's the glass to be blamed, because you can actually see the text sliding below this sort of "dirt" when you scroll. However when the screen is turned off it looks perfectly clean. I think the problem can be caused by the coating wearing off, possibly damaged by the screen protector...I also got a "stickier" area around the earpiece that has the coating obviously wearing off, because it collects dirt and smudges much more than the rest of the screen, but that would be a whole different story, I've heard of many others with the same issues, but frankly it doesn't even bother me. I'll try to get the phone replaced or at least repaired next week, this is ridiculous, I have a phone with an HD screen looking more fuzzy and pixelated than my GF's 710. You may say that I shouldn't have applied the screen protector and whatnot, but frankly I've been using these protectors on my old 800 for a year and the screen is mint. I'm afraid there's something very wrong with the coating of the 920, I suggest you to be very careful with screen protectors, maybe paradoxically going naked is less dangerous...
Anyone having similar issues?
I'm trying to collect some feedback from the users here, just to make sure that my screen isn't faulty. I'd like to use a screen protector on this guy because I'd like to keep it for quite some time, but obviously if it's a no go I'll just try to be careful...
The problem is the Gorilla Glass that the 920 has. It is not really Glass but more of a material similar to what they make safety glasses from. It can be etched by certain chemicals as well as mineral deposits in the water you used to apply it. You are supposed to used distilled water to apply those types of protectors. The best yet is to get a protector such as the Otterbox Defender that has the screen protector built in but is never actually secured to the screen in any way. it just makes contact as you press it. So are hard water stains and they might be able to be removed with lemon juice and cotton swaps.

Thanks for the tip...I'll try this out as soon as I get home. If the screen doesn't get clean I'll still try to get the phone repaired, I may get lucky. I'll report back here how it goes. One more thing, do you think that a DIY solution like Fusso Smartphone may do the trick if the damage is just on the coating?
Not sure how that will work since this display is not really glass. For me the phone is too expensive of an investment to try that on. I will just stick with my Otterbox Defender that yes the wireless charger works through.
I will be just coating the back of my yellow 920 to protect it from scratches using best skins ever will leave the front after reading this.
Just a quick update: the lemon juice trick didn't work, probably the damage is real, it's not just hardcore dirt or whatever. Also, I got that Fusso Smartphone thing in the mail today so I decided to take my chances and try it, and it doesn't seem to work. Sure the screen feels smoother but nothing other than that. Actually I'm not even sure the damage is in the coating, to be honest, because if it's just that you're not supposed to get noisy and dirty whites when the screen is on, just more smudges on the glass. Hopefully they'll do something about it at the repair center, maybe they'll cosider it a manifacturing defect and won't charge me for the repair, fingers crossed...
I'll report back.

I have a Zagg Ivisible Shield on but I haven't tried to remove it yet. I can say it sucks that Zagg only has the regular shield for the Windows Phone devices because the HD shield on my LG Optimus G is absolutely gorgeous but the one on my 920 has pits in it and is very sticky. I was going to try and get it replaced under warranty, if I do that I will see if the issue he talks about above happens.

Your right, I just took off my Zagg Invisible Shield after ordering a replacement and i see the same thing all in my White. Dammit, going to have to ask for a replacement.
For what it's worth, I originally had no screen protector on my 920. One day I accidentally dropped and stepped on the phone (was playing table tennis and it fell out of my pocket). The screen got a very nasty scratch right across the front. Luckily for me my earpiece died and I needed to get the phone replaced under warranty.
Got a replacement phone and chucked a screen protector on it as soon as I opened it. Absolutely no issues with it, even when replacing the protector. Admittedly I'm not using a wet-apply protector, which is definitely more obvious, but apparently it doesn't damage the coating.

Well, the whole point of the question was to get someone's opinion on a protector they have tried (good/bad) instead of blindly trying a random one.
I would never put my phone in one of those cases.

Too bad then. Your phone won't survive a 1 story drop like mine will then. Ypu also can't step on yours and not have it damaged. Also what exactly is wrong with "one of those cases"? It fully protects your 600 USD investment from most dangers that a phone can encounter in it's life. Personally if it is about showing the phone of, I could care less. i don't need a status symbol. If I did I would have bought an iPhone <cringe>..
I have used the Otterbox for every phone I have owned till the day came to sell each one. At which time they all looked like they just came out of the box and could have easily been sold as brand new.
You wanted an opinion on a tried protector, well here you go.

What's wrong with them is that I don't like them, hehe... You do understand different people have different tastes. I am glad your phone will survive all kinds of catastrophic events though.

I would advise not using any screen protector on a Gorilla 2 glass, which is very resistant though not indestructible. Screen protectors use sticky chemicals that tend to alter colors if only slightly.

I myself have been using a variety of matte screen protectors. Not to protect the screen, but for it to be more readable. I prefer matte over glossy. So far no issues.
Well, as Yogi Berra used to say, "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It." One question though: does this screen protector affect screen readibility in full light, which, considering, is quite good for the 920 -provided the brightness setting is on "auto", sunlight readibility on "auto" too. The possibilty to adjust the color profile (temperature and saturation) is also a good feature on the 920.
Zagg going brown
Has anyone also noticed zagg discolour on area of high use(my right side used for scrolling). This is my second protector and same thing happened. It has not damaged the actual phone, I have been using for almost full year now. I have backup one ready to install, as I don't want to be without during warranty replacement waiting time.

In my experience it doesn't impair readability, but if your installation has orange peel effect the reflections will be a bit annoying.

Yep zaggs sawk. They become yellowish very quickly compared to other brands and normally have the most orange peel effect. They sure are the toughest but they also look the worse.
I am looking to find the most high quality option when it comes to screen protectors for the Ultra.
I have tried the Muvit protector - but it isn't the best quality I've seen - and it got a little scratch in the application process.
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Stealth Extreme R from Armorz without having first taken off the shatter proof film?
Wondering how it fits on the device, how it affects the weight - and generally how high quality the protector actually is and if it is worth the extra $50.
I am not interested in trying to remove the shatter proof film after reading people's experiences.
Not sure if it'll help you, but there are quite a number of "reviews" on it on Youtube.

I have the Armorz Stealth Extreme R tempered glass protector. Its actually pretty good quality. If you have never put on a glass screen protector before, it might be a little tricky. I put mine on without water, and paid the price when trying to reposition it. the bottom corner is lifted from when i tried to pry it up and move it. I did apply a back glass using the water method, and it took longer to get the bubbles completely out, but came out pretty clean.
I did not remove the anti shatter film on either side, and have not seen any loss in touch sensitivity.
one thing i did notice is that, it added a little bit of weight, but also gave the phone better rigidity when used without the case. some people have mentioned the phone twisting in their pocket, and i have yet to experience any twisting whats so ever.
not sure if the price has gone up, but i ordered mine for 39$ on amazon. hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the insight!
So why do you think doing it dry caused a problem? Is the adhesive very strong? I figured it would just pull right off.
Do you have any bubbles or blemishes on the front?

it's a silicone based adhesive. peels off fairly easy but keeps a strong bond. when I pryed the corner up, I pushed part of the adhesive so it clumped up and now won't lay flat. if you spray it down with water, you'll be able to slide it into place with out having to lift.
it looks like a large are in the picture but it really isn't noticeable. the backside went on with water without any issues. sucks that the back glass cost me 13$ and the front cost me 3 times that much only to have that messed up corner. you live and you learn. Lol

... Is that crap made out of Gorilla glass? Good god, that's a screen protector. None of this "Clear film" BS where if there's an Airbubble you just ruined a purchase, oh no, this is quite literally just another screen slapped on top.
What does it do to the thickness of the thing? My concern mainly is with cases like Sony's Battery case that kind of only work with just exactly how thick it is.
Not sure if it's really gorilla glass but no scratches so far from things that would scratch plastic protectors. It is pretty thin I can't say for the case but its under 1mm thick.
Does anyone know this?

It's called ILLumiShield and they sell it on Amazon and eBay for a reasonable price and is absolutely fantastic it's so easy to put on bubble free, feels like glass even over the the crap protector Sony puts on. I highly recommended and no I don't work for them hehe

I found this issue to be greatly improved with the iLLumiShield screen protector. But it was definitely more of an issue with the cheaper screen protectors. You also might want to go to settings/sounds and uncheck vibrate on touch. I feel like this improve my touch sensitivity.

Turned off vibrate on touch and it seems a bit more more responsive in some areas, even though it probably is placebo. I have an iShieldz screen protector (similar to Zagg) and noticed that it wouldn't respond when I tap the screen sometimes. Though, I think that's the way I tap the screen, edge of finger vs finger.

Thanks for the tip. Just bought one. Been wanting a protection like that for my phone ever since removing the factory protector. The phone is a fingerprint magnet without the ASF. However found it for $16 and free shipping to Sweden (only front protection though, don't need it for the back).

I applied Glass-M screen protectors on both the front and back of my phone yesterday, and have been very happy with it so far. It's added a little weight, but it feels sturdier and more premium than before, and looks better than the plastic screen protector I had previously. The touch is also a lot smoother than the plastic one, which was a bit rubbery. I installed mine on top of the ASF, both front and back, since I didn't want the "harrowing" experience of removing it. I feel like it's protected well enough to do without a case, though I may get a slim one to cover the edges of the phone as well. Highly recommended. :good:

Received my GlassM this week, applied it yesterday. For whatever the reason, there is now, after 12 hours of use, a 10cm large, deep scratch (no, it's not dust, polished few times). Over the first night, the screen got the crack though. This morning I've noticed the deep scratch.
Yesterday evening, just sliding over my wooden table, impressed of its smooth, I notived two smaller light scratches. I thought so, "ok thats not really your truth, GlassM", but now it's really enough.
GlassM's support does not reply to my support request unfortunately.
Can someone recommend other Glass-protectors for my beloved ZU?
Greetings,
slay

This is a known issue with the glass protectors and our phone and I'd imagine other phones as well.
Fortunately mine is great and I haven't had this issue really at all. Mine is a Zagg. Maybe look into one of those or at least one that's thinner.

It's going to be dependent on the screen protector.
I have one of the cheap ones (~6.00 eBay) and never have an issue. -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/131240105653?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Since they were cheap and good, I bought two additional.
I have been reading around and many are having issues with Bodyguardz. I reached out them and they say they have not had one complaint and insist it is not caused by the protector but a firmware problem, and pretty much get lost.
Anyone else notice this? Especially with a screen protector on I have noticed "dead" spots on the touch screen randomly show up and cause me problems.
When I first got my phone I had this issue. I had Verizon install their glass screen protector which I really liked, but I had random dead spots. I went to return it and of course they wouldn't take it back. I got a bit heated. I got the regular screen protector and have not had the issue since.
It was AWFUL with the all glass one for me, but is still noticeable even with a "flex" glass one that is just about the same thickness as a standard protector.
I am very curious if all G3s suffer from this.
my buddy with spigen glass doesn't seem to have the same touch issues I have with tech armor glass. once i get frustrated enough i'll get the spigen
I have the glass protector and sometimes I just want to throw the phone against the wall, especially when playing a game like GTA
I have had the zagg glass protector since i got the phone release day an have had the same problems but not enough to make me take it off i found out that when it happens i just turn the screen off and on then it fixes itself
I play Ingress on my G3, and with the 0.2mm iCarez tempered glass protector on it I get random areas where there is no touch sensitivity at all. Multiple presses, hard presses...nothing. Sometimes when I breath on my finger and try again it works for a while. Other areas work. Weird.
Since the iCarez has cracked in multiple places now and I am expecting a replacement, I could remove the shards and try it, but the One Plus seems much nicer overall, for screen touches. No protection on it though.
Happens to me to. I have the glass screen protector from the Verizon store. Sometimes I just wipe my fingers clean make sure they don't feel oily and sometimes that gets things going again. But yea its annoying
The thicker tempered glass screen protectors will result in this behavior in my experience. The icarez .2mm one is fine and has no touch issues that I can reproduce. The default verizon one they sell in the store near me is horrible.

.12mm thick. The protector is not the problem that I can figure. I wonder if this design flaw is still being reproduced by LG or if they fixed it at some point. It is getting very old, very fast.
I had the Verizon tempered glass screen protector for about a week, and noticed areas of the screen that were nearly dead, especially along the edges. I removed the screen protector, and haven't had an issue since.

I have this one and still get the occasional area that I can't touch. Primarily seems to affect the top right corner area.
I have used this screen protector now on three phones. Never an issue with any of them and I am a heavy user.

i also had issues that made me want to throw the phone at times.
started with the vzw tg (i didnt realize thats what they were selling me when i bought it), waste of $25 or whatever.
put it in the OB case, and it was all but unusable.
threw the TG in the trash and went with just the OB plastic. still got frequent dead spots. ordered a normal protector from extreme guard on ebay, where i normally get my protectors. took out the OB plastic, put the XG protector on the phone, put it back in the OB case, never had another issue.
Icarez matte screen protectors on Amazon are beautiful easy to install, scratch resistant and don't bring about sensitivity issues associated with tempered
Bought my first tempered glass screen protector from amazon for $6.99 for the G3. .33h thick. I will never go back to a plastic one ever again on any device. it looks awesome. Very scratch resistant and hardly or no grease ever collects on it so it is very streak resistant. This buy is a no brainer.
Install instructions.
After cleaning screen with some alcohol base cleaner and micro fiber i went into the bathroom where I had a hot shower running to reduce the dust in the room. I then used scotch tape and attached to the phone like a book with 2 strips attached on the side. I did not remove the inside protection sheet on the tempered glass yet. I was now able to fold the screen onto the phone like a book with precision. I then used scotch tape connected together as if to be double stick side and tapped the whole screen clean of dust with the scotch tape. I then removed the inside protection sheet on the tempered glass and folded it over onto the phone and viola! perfection!

Agreed. They are fantastic. I actually had a scratch on my screen before I added the tempered glass screen protector and it completely hides the scratch! Love it.
I agree, I put one on my phone when I first got it.
I also have the Diztronic case, matched with it. Can't even tell I have it on. People are constantly asking me why I don't have a screen protector.

So I take it there is no issues with screen sensitivity with this tempered glass protector? The ones offered through Verizon seems make screen sensitivity an issue.
I'm useing a .33 one. I don't notice any issues.
Good to know, just placed an order for one this morning.

I have to say I have noticed a very very slight sensitivty issue but very very infrequent. I find the return to be far greater than the loss as I was having far greater issues of streaking from grease. My call is a much far greater improvement over all. like a said, this ones a no brainer. (since I don't have a brain [all statements I've made = true] lol
also since I used a circle case I was always getting a circle dust/grease stain I was constantly cleaning every time I opened my phone. this has changed dramatically with the tempered protector. If your using a otterbox defender which has an additional screen this may cause a problem. I would go back and check for you cause I have a defender but I love my wireless charging and I love the case and I'm not going back. Some people have this case for sale on amazon for around $27. I figured I would just buy through verizon since I get a 25% discount on accessories and it is warrantied for 1 year. If I get problem I can just walk into a store and replace it that day. (I hate to wait)
cheers.

I had the same sensitivity problem with mine. Ended up taking it off after a couple weeks because it was so annoying. Mine was Verizon branded and pretty thick though.
Note, with the Otterbox Defender, it's a good idea to pop out that pre-installed screen protector. It's garbage and the case still fits on a phone with tempered glass.
Using the iCarez and a Ditztronic case, perfect match. Can't even tell it has the screen protector.

Tempered glass caused screen sensitivity issues for some people right? I like my icarez matte screen protectors.
