I'm using the stock lg sms app and the badge is showing an unread message. I've deleted all messages, cleared the data on the sms app and even moved the sms default to hangouts and back.
Any help would be appreciated.
Go into your recovery and wipe the cache partition it will force all of the apps to refresh their data that way the notification's will also reset. There are several things that cause this, this may just be a glitch but if that first wipe doesn't work try wipe the dalvik cache as well. Both of those wipes should help but if that still does not work try us tb to uninstall it then download a rom and extract the apk and re install it. If that doesn't work just re install the rom or go to a previous back up when you had the messages. Just read them. I personally recommend just going to cm it does not have all of the junk like the stock rom. If you do plan to extract the apk then look in the system app folder it may also be in the private app folder. Also try to switch to a different SMS app I think that the google messenger is the best. Mostly because it has material design and is the fastest over all.
Figured it out. I loaded textra, but kept the default on the LG app. In textra there was an old text, which was deleted last week. Removed the text, removed textra and badge issue resolved.

I have had the atrix for about two weeks now and love the phone, I havent had any problems with using handcent or any other third part messaging apps until a few days ago. All of a sudden messages that I previously deleted are coming back into my threads and in my currents conversations the phone is deleting tons of messasges. I removed handcent and even the stock messager is doing the same thing. I hace the text limit per conversation set at 1000 and I looked into every second I could think of and just have run out of ideas. Please help because this is extremely frustrating!
if you have multiple text messaging apps installed on your phone try uninstalling all of them and see if the issue disappears. i am thinking that it might be a conflict between different 3rd party apps.
as a worst case scenario i would try a factory reset (which would delete all info and apps) and start again. there is a sms backup app in the market so you can backup everything first and restore after the reset
thank you I am going to try and delete all third party apps for a day or so then re install and if that doesnt work do the factory reset and just install one texting app.
Okay, I have 20,000 texts on my phone and both the stock messaging app and handcent are really stuttering. I want to just quickly delete all of my messages, but after clearing all data and cache on messageCS and message I still have all the messages on my phone and it's taking forever to delete them. Is there any way to just quickly wipe them all without my other information being wiped? I have full root
Ok I have read that Gmail is not a very stable app, and people often complain it crashes, but there's a limit!
I had it installed by default, then removed it after root, then decided to install it again as I needed to check my mail more often.
Every time, every damn time I do ANYTHING, Gmail crashes. You probably know the usual message "com.google.android.gm stopped unexpectedly", I get it when I boot the phone, when I enable data, when I disable data, when I open the browser, when I close the browser, when I enable google account sync, when I disable it, and of course when I try and open Gmail. The fact is, the process crashes even when I don't use Gmail (I checked and it's not in the 'being used' processes list, but when I open the browser or enable data it crashes from nowhere).
I have already tried wiping cache and data, uninstalling updates (but for some reason it uninstalls the whole app), and uninstalling/reinstalling it several times, but I only managed to make it work ONCE (then after that unique mail sent, crashes again). Is there a way to stop this madness?
I have an Xperia Mini st15i with rooted 2.3.4 and stock stuff, if it can help.
Did you take a backup of the stock Gmail app before you removed it? Did you install that one and then updated or did you install directly from the market?
In addition, have you tried clearing the data of Google Services Framework? I read somewhere that clearing its data can help resolve issues in Google apps.
I don't have a backup of the stock one, I reinstalled directly from market =(. I'll try clearing that data then =)
Don't worry if you don't have the stock Gmail.apk. If clearing the services framework doesn't work, search Google for the stock Gmail.apk of your android version, install it, then convert it to system app and link it to the market using titanium backup and then update it. If you can't find it, contact me. Post how it goes.

I'm not sure how it happened, but my stock Contacts app is no longer on my phone. The Contacts storage is there, as an addon dialer can still make calls to existing contacts. I cannot, however, add contacts or do anything else that requires the Contacts app.
My Note has never been rooted and is running only apps from the Google Play store. I am hoping that there is a way to simply reinstall the apk if one is available, but I am interested in any suggestions people have.
Thanks!
If your not rooted then I'm not sure how a system app was uninstalled, did you double check your app drawer it could just be deleted from your homescreen

It didn't make sense to me either, but it is gone from the app drawer. I use the ContactsEX app and it can pull from the Contacts Storage, but when I attempt to add contacts, edit contacts, etc., the stock Contacts app does not appear.
A few minutes ago I did download from one of the forums here the stock Contacts apk. When I attempted to install the apk, installation failed because a file of that name already existed. Since that suggests that the original apk is there somewhere, would a hard/factory reset work to get the Contact app back?
go to system settings and apps. you want to view all. see if it lists contacts. if it is there then the third party conacts app may be the problem. make sure it is not set to be default app. maybe try clearing data for the app and reboot.

It wasn't in the system apps list. I uninstalled the third party contacts app, but then I had no way to get to my contacts or dialer. When I reinstalled the third party contacts app, I again had access to the existing contacts and could place calls. Still no way to access the stock contacts/dialer or edit existing contacts.
If a system reset would fix this, that's cool. I just don't want to do a reset and then still have the problem.
A factory reset should fix this, maybe consider rooting and flashing a rom

If I fix this, then my wife says she will take this phone and I can buy a Note II. Then I will root.
If that's the case then factory reset or Odin back to stock and get a note II man.
Simply rename the new contacts apk by adding a single number or letter to the end ...then it should install, and avoid the duplicate file failure ....
Or ....get a note 2.....that'll fix it ....LOL ...g
I use chomp SMS as my messaging app, and after an app update the MMS feature has gotten wonky. Anything MMS related is very slow, from adding a pic, sending, and even going into the MMS settings, the phone bugs out and lags. I went through a bunch of support with Chomp and nothing has fixed it. Here's steps I have taken. -Force Stop app, clear data, clear cache, uninstall, reboot into recovery, wipe cache, reboot phone, and install again, and same problems. I know it's not a problem with Chomp itself, because my fiance, with the same phone model, has no issues what so ever with chomp. Feels like the app isn't completely removing. Anyone have any suggestions? Anywhere to look to manually delete files?
