[Q] Lost Super Amoled after replacing screen ?! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
A friend of mine currently replaced her I9300 screen after she cracked it. But I noticed that the phone screen isn't Super Amoled anymore
I compared her S3 Display to mine and mine clearly have BETTER display quality!
Now, since I wrongly flashed N7100 Kernel onto mine and froze the Touch Module; I need a whole new screen assembly since I9300 LCD and Touch Digitizer seems to be HARD to dissociate
My question now is:
Will screen replacement makes mine lose the Super Amoled feature like my friend's one ?
Do I need a specific screen assembly ? If so, How do I identify this before buying it ?
Thank you in advance.

I think that your friend has got a lower quality replacement display. If you want to replace your screen, you should look not for the cheapest one or atleast do some research (check that display you will buy is original)

But HOW do I tell whether it's genuine (original if you want) or replicate (fake) ?
And FYI, she bought it for $100, isn't that enough to pay a genuine one ?

No, that isn't a genuine screen assembly. Buy it from a reputable retailer -if you can find one, not an ebay or amazon reseller.

Thank you.
But it's really HARD to find SAMSUNG Retellers here in The Bronx
Thank you anyway.

Just passing by... can't you just reflash your phone with correct kernel?

Already discussed :good:
There's NO miracle for this issue other than replacing the Screen (LCD + Touch Digitizer).
I understood WHY it burned the Touch Module lol N7100 uses bigger screen than I9300, so it pushes more power to the screen, unfortunately I9300 hardwares cannot hold such power. Maybe that's WHY N7100 have 1,6Ghz CPU while I9300 have 1,4Ghz (even if it's about the same hardware); also the battery voltage: N7100 uses genuinely 2600mAh while I9300 uses 2100mAh.
Anyway, I sold the device (as it was) now moving to something new (maybe another S3).

[Q] Broken LCD

Hello everyone,
As you already know from the title i broke my screen yesterday and I was searching on XDA and found out that I can buy a screen by myself on ebay for 100$ and I can change it by myself, but i couldn't find anything about the quality of those screens are they good, are the color, brightness etc. gonna be the same ?
And if someone know if i can get it cheaper than 100$ ?
Also does the screen comes with the bezel because that one broke too ?
Also did any of you tried to make the i777 completely white ?
w-w-w.ebay.com/itm/White-Front-Glass-Outer-LCD-Lens-Screen-Cover-for-at-t-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-i777-/321080214120?pt=US_Cell_Phone_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4ac1df4268
In my experience if the screen and digitizer both break its just about as cost effective to buy another used phone rather than replace the current one. If you do it wrong, you're screwed out of that money plus still don't have a phone. On the other hand , you have no guarantees of the condition of the used one you're buying either I suppose.

[Q] Replacement LCD Screens - from S3 CLONES?

Hi All,
apologies if i have posted this in the wrong section, if so, please move.
I have been searching without any success of finding a Samsung S3 CLONE that would use a LCD Screen the Original Samsung S3 would recognise. I have not found images in the internals of these clones aswell
I wonder if anyone here or outside this forum has been successfull in finding a Clone S3 that uses the same LCD configuration compatible with the real S3.
I have seen many replacement LCD screens which claim to be compatible but are not AMOLED or have the exact resolution as the S3, so are these "replacement" screen LCDs really used in the Clone.
any one here able to shed some light on this possibility? :fingers-crossed:
Impossible as they are different technology
LCD and AMOLED
Even through you found right size,, right connected LCD screen and attached it into S3, still won't work due to driver problem or something like that

but im wondering what abt these replacement LCDs that are lower in resolution etc and seems to work with the S3. where are these screens from and are these screens used in the clones?
as for drivers, im sure people in this forum can mod something to make it work?

Serious?
Those clones, just another model of phone which "accidentally" has very same outer appears as Galaxy S III, doesn't mean they are compatible.

no way, don't even think about trying it
yes you can
I've installed three different types, all low resolution and one was two small you would see a small black strip at the top because lcd was two short. But they all worked , if you own a repair shop I think its important to figure out who's making these lcd because when a new model comes out and the assembly is 250$ and Samsung designed the s4 to break at the lcd not the glass , so lots of ppl need lcd. So the price states high for a wile , meanwhile the iphone screens break at the glass so there's millions of good lcds floating around the price drops fast , the iphone 5s is already down to 80$ from its original 250 just two months ago . So the iphone parts drop in price fast but for galaxy parts we need to find who makes these clone lcds so our galaxy customers have a alternative repair option under 300$
We do the 5s for 150$ , the part is 80$
The s4 part is 209 so we have to charge 269 installed.
Insurance deductible is 150....

[Q] Broken my S3's screen

Hello
A few days ago i dropped my Galaxy S3 while pulling it out of my pocket and the LCD is cracked. I dropped my S3 a few times but this time it fell on the edge and it landed like a "brick". The whole phone functions properly except the Screen won't turn on. The Touchscreen and home button works fine but the Menu & Back button don't work. I took it to the repair shop and they said that it costs ~ £180 to repair it.
Are there any suggestions on what i should do? Any cheap good screen replacement on eBay?
And is there an app that allows me to control my S3 from my PC via USB preferably but WiFi will do also.
Thanks for reading

The issue is, the front housing, glass, digitiser and screen come as a "sealed unit". So yes it is expensive. You can pick them up a bit cheaper on eBay but then it needs fitting.
If you're searching eBay, we have AMOLED screen, not LCD

The problem is with these apps, they need setting up first and you need to be able to see to do it. k If you have a HDMI input somewhere, you can use an MHL cable to see it on a tv, but thats all I can think of really.
Problem with screen replace is not many do a proper job see multiple posts on XDA .

S3 screen
First thing is to go to service centre and ask to see service manager, usually its at the discretion of the manager to give a discount. I was lucky, went to get my Note 1 complete LCD & digitizer (broken) replaced for US$120 2 month ago. Yesterday I cracked my S3 screen n i went back to sc again got it replaced in 1 hr for $106 and i also change the headphone jack port ($11). Now i ve 2 brand new looking phone as they replace the fuull screen with frame. Thanks Samsung. So it pays to visit the sc 1st and speak with them rather than post yr problem. Cheers.

In the UK the Sammie service centres have to send the 'faulty' AMOLED/LCD screen back to Samsung, if it's cracked (as is likely in your case) the service centre do not get reimbursed for parts cost in the repair and as the complete house costs over £140 (and have to be bought in lots of 10 units) you can see there's no money in it for them to discount.
As rootsu stated above it's all one housing, replacing glass can be done but not the actual screen element.
I would suggest try to find someone with a working screen setup perhaps on ripbay or gumtree and drop in your motherboard to their working screen, anything under £150 and you're saving some money. Else try to sell yours but beware of buyers who'll try to make a claim on ebay after they received stating 'not as described' to get you to give a part refund for the sale (i.e. you auction it for £120 they then try to get £60 or £70 back) it's a common scam for phones.
Good Luck
I was able to get the whole screen and front bezel etc for £125 from Amazon and did it myself fairly easily with no previous experience. Just follow the YouTube guides slowly and carefully and it'll be fine. The UK seller of the screen got it to me within a day or two so I didn't have to use my old Desire HD for very long.

Before i cracked my screen (accidentally) i installed a program called Wondershare MobileGo for Android which allows me to see real-time screenshots of my phone but not control it. So with a bit of struggle maybe i can set up an App :|

Samsung Galaxy SIII Touchscreen compatibility

So, okay. I've searched everywhere but found no reference of Samsung S3's touchscreen compatibility.
There are at least 3?? variants of our beloved S3, but does the touchscreen of a I9300 fit that of SHV-E210L?
I have the E210L with a disabled touch after rooting. Now, I want to change its touchscreen but don't want to buy something I'll regret later. I've done everything from restoring, factory resetting, and re-flashing the FW but still the touch is disabled.
So, XDA-folks. Does the S3 have touchscreen compatibility or does it fit to all Samsung S3 variants?
Bump? Anybody?
Easiest way would be check those selling replacement screen assemblies, if one screen fits several models then you may have your answer.
However, as flashing the wrong kernel seems to always destroy the touchscreen I would doubt they are compatible.
I also don't think you can change just the digitiser, it's glued to the oled and unlike the glass screen is very fragile.

Hey man, thanks for the reply.
I'm thinking about replacing the whole screen, not just the digitizer as I don't have any experience at all with separating the touch and LCD with the heat gun..
Unfortunately, we don't have an eBay-like service here in the Philippines (which do returns) so trying/fitting screens is quite out of my options. Also worth noting is the E210L's antenna attached at the back cover, I'm afraid that if I do buy an I9300's screen it would somehow get in the way.. It's detachable though, but yeah..well..you know. :silly:
Guess I have to resort with phone techs scattered throughout the area. I just hope they don't make matters worse with my phone. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks again!

Rae

Lines all over the screen and it flickers

Hello guys, I hope for you expert opinion here. Yesterday I picked up my beloved Note 4 Global version and saw lines all of the screen, and it flickers all the time. It is definitely a hardware issue because the lines can be seen on the boot and in the TWRP. Also if I apply a bit of pressure on the phone on different sides, sometimes you can see the lines changing, ones they diapered for 5 minutes completely. I have dropped it a day before, from my trousers pocket, but it was fine for a while after that...
I bought this phone from www.gearbest.com and I live in Germany. After reading all the reviews about the warranty procedure I decided that I don't want to send it back to gearbest, because in the best case scenario I will get the phone in half a year, in the worst I won't get it at all.
My question is, do you think the fault is in the motherboard or LCD screen itself? I could buy a new LCD for 25 euros and replace it myself.

I know it's not hard, I've done it to other phones as well. The question is if it's the screen, or the motherboard.
Found a screen here, as far as I know, the 4X screen is compatible with Global version.

That is correct, I don't want to buy a new LCD to find out that some controller somewhere on the motherboard is dead.
Actually buying the phone was very easy. Having any kind of service is much harder. And you can't buy this phone in Germany. They don't sell them here.
