Upgraded a couple days ago and here are the issues I'm having. Any help or suggestions appreciated by those of you who have been through this:
Battery life about half what it was on KitKat
Recharging VERY slow. MORE than twice as long as with KitKat
Pandora won't shut off when I exit car mode. Keeps coming back. Eventually it quits.
Voice in car mode is different - and like fingernails on a chalkboard!
I have done a factory reboot, which was alot harder than any other time I've done it, and that hasn't helped. Called both TMob and Samsung only to get the humma humma run around. "Replace the battery", "Do another factory reset", "Give it time to 'adjust' to the new OS". Nothing that helps much. Plus they said I could NOT re-install KitKat because of some changes made to the phone with then new update. Not sure if that ones true or not!
So for those who haven't upgraded yet - give it a bit. See what comes up in the next couple months. I sure didn't see this coming!
It is definitely more power hungry and inefficient, but not so much of the other issues you're talking about.
If I were you, I'd try to flash the stock lollipop ROM one more time, and do a factory reset right after flashing for good measure either by grabbing the stock ROM from sammobile and loading it by Odin or even flash using Samsung kies if it picks up your phone! (Sometimes Kies would give you error messages if you've loaded custom roms in the past)

Well, I"m giving that a shot under the "It can't get worse" theory. Hopefully that's true. I'll let you know how it goes!

Well, it didn't get worse but it didn't get better either. After 6 days with Lollipop I can report a major loss of utility with the loss of battery life. I went from 15-18 hours of battery to 5-6. With that sort of battery life its not worth it. And its Samsungs fault for deploying this POS with inadequate testing.
Anyone successfully gone back to KitKat?
My contacts force close, led notifications don't work for texts or missed calls (yes it's on). Pretty disappointed too. Would like to downgrade to 4.4. Anyone dove this successfully.

That IS the big question!
Well. I reinstalled KitKat using Odin and it went fine. Got my battery life back and that's a big deal. Couldn't see anything with Lollipop that was worth losing that! I'll think about an upgrade when I see what they do to fix this AND how well it works but right now I need battery life.

So my friend has a Thunderbolt and she complains about it freezing up when doing text messaging. She has to hit the power button and then it will come back to life. Sometimes she even has to wait a few minutes for it to come back. She has tried to restart it and even takes the battery out. She has also even having troubles with the GPS not working or taking forever to lock. Everytrail will mess up and not get her entire run, etc. I even noticed that my TouchPro2 running android will go from google maps to google navigation faster than her Tbolt. Is this poor performance common for users with the stock rom and the update?
I have no problem messing around with phones and putting custom roms, etc, etc on my phone. I would help her root her phone if its worth rooting. She was concerned it would void warranty, but I saw the thread to restore to stock. Is there anyway for them to tell you were rooted if she has a warranty issue and I return it to stock? She is obviously wanting something that will work better and faster than stock. What would be the best setup for a close to stock look and feel, but more stable and easy to use? Does a rom like that even exist? Help me out here fella's as I told her to get the Tbolt instead of another crackberry and now she is less than happy because her Tbolt sucks stock. Thanks
If i was her i would call and get a replacement and see if that helps b4 messing with the phone. A phone should work properly out of the box.
Wont they just send her a replacement that is a refurb?
They will definitely give her a refurbished no matter how much you complain.
For the gps, try download an app called GPS Status and Toolbox. It's free from the market. Turn GPS on, open up the app, and hit the menu button. Then choose Tools, and choose Manage A-GPS State. Choose reset and see if that helps the GPS lock on faster.
As for the freezing, I'm not sure why its doing that. It could be a rouge app that's hogging the CPU. Tell her to go through and uninstall any apps she doesn't use. Worst case scenario, back up everything she needs, and factory reset the phone. Is a pain, by it might be worth a try.
Rooting does void the warranty. You can return back to stock and they would never know. However, because of this, many people are bricking their phones because they don't know what they are doing and then claim warranty on them. Because of this, the OEMs are starting to lock down the bootloaders to prevent this, and carriers and pressuring them to do so as well.
I, personally, think the tbolt runs faster and has the best battery life stock than with any Rom kernel combo I have tried.

I'd rather have a functional refurb than a broken new phone. That's just me.
I had never done anything close to rooting a phone before. I spent 2 days reading about it. I downloaded all the programs and files that are needed to root the phone. Finally decided to do it....knowing full well that I could brick the phone and have to pay retail for a new one. It did take me a long time just cause I wanted to be very thorough with the process and make sure I did everything right. If I had to do it again it would probably take a half hour. It was easier than I thought it would be. The combo I'm using now is Bamf 1.6.3 remix and Imoseyons lean kernel on normal mode. The battery life is amazing. I do have a slight problem that will hopefully get fixed soon but after unplugging my phone at 730 am and having moderate usage at work my battery is at 82% at 5 pm.

The battery percentage isn't always accurate. Try using green power. It's a free app in the market. It an shut your data off when you shut the screen of, and turn it on when you turn the screen back on. You can also set it to turn the data on and let the phone sync. I have none set to turn the data on for 1 minute every two hours to let it sync.

I am not worried about successfully rooting the phone. I am sure I can handle that. I am more worried about the phone working worse than it is now. That is why I was asking about which roms are nice and stable.
She is running SMS backup? Is there a better program that archives texts to gmail easily that she could try?
Could there really be a hardware issue? Seems odd.

Plain Jane is a great ROM. its pretty much stock only deodexed and rooted.
I'm currently running das BAMF 2.0 and its very stable and runs great.
As far as sms backup, I never back up any of my text when I flash new ROMs so I couldn't help you there.

SMS backup works fine. I don't like the HTC messaging app, mine freezes up too. Mostly when you have a ton of messages in a particular thread. Tell her to try handcent. That cleared up my messaging woes. If that doesn't do it I would tell her to go back to the store and have them replace the phone. Refurb or not it's better to have a phone that works. As far as gps that's a well known problem with this phone. I've resigned myself to waiting 90 seconds to get a fix which in reality isn't that bad. The garmin in my car takes at least that long.
Didnt realize there was a rom called plain jane. Sorry but what is deodexed?
I know she doesnt delete her texts so long threads may be an issue. I will have her look at handcent.
The length to lock isnt the biggest issue its the freezing and her missing stuff on everytrail.
Can anyone tell me where to find the latest updated stock rom at??? Or if I can find it within my phone and extract it myself. I wanna mess around with it and see if I can't come out with my own fully functional roms and stuff. Any help would be great. I tried a search in here and in Google and didn't find anything usefull. Thanks in advance.

Be aware that is NOT the latest OTA. That is a leak from Moto and may or may not the next official OTA. We don't even have a changelist for it. By all accounts, it is stable and apparently improves upon certain things like battery life.
The latest official OTA is 198-6.

I beg to differ. I've had nothing but weirdness with 198_7. After about a month of freaky stuff, I'm going back to 154_5.
Issues I have with 198_7 that I never saw with 154_5:
- Wifi falls asleep and forgets to wake up sometimes, even when sitting next to my router with phone in hand. Have to manually disable/re-enable it.
- Random vibrations. Like they are buffered or something. I'll make a call or watch a video and out of nowhere.. buzz buzz... buzz.... Possessed!
- Laggy keyboard. This may be due to SwiftX keyboard but sometimes after typing a bit it will freeze, but buffer all the keys and vibrations, so it feels like a poltergeist.
- Inability to acceptable calls occasionally. The phone rings, it shows the caller id, but the screen is not responsive. The phone is frozen and will just stay in this loop, showing the caller, ringing the phone, and vibrating it long after the caller would have been sent to vmail. I have to actually pull the battery to stop it.
- Phone gets hot while idle. Hot battery = draining battery for no known reason.
I am running stock everything, not even a custom launcher. Only have a few apps installed and 2 games. Nothing that should cause instability. Bootloader locked. I do have bootstrap recovery but I've only used it once to try to clear cache/dalvik and reset data.. But even after that it still started happening again.
I am going back to 154_5 today. I had 0 problems with that version. I never tried 198_6 as I heard it had issues that 198_7 fixed. But 198_7 seems worse than any I've tried so far.

My bad. From the actual thread, most people seem to have no issue with it. I haven't tried it myself, so I was merely summarizing group opinion. This is definitely why I mentioned it was unofficial.
BTW, do give 198-6 a try. I'm currently running it and I can't think of any stability or usability issues with it whatsoever. I have been running it since it officially OTA'ed months ago.
So, after 8 months of use, my M8 is finally in a situation where I'm kind of sick of it running so poorly. In the past I've always had these issues over time, but I always contributed it mainly to running custom ROM's. Well, when I got my M8, it ran so well I decided to leave it stock. Well it's finally starting to hit a wall and it's more of a frustration than a joy to use. Swype is borderline impossible to use since it lags so bad, freezes are infrequent but occur, etc etc.
So my question is, what are the most likely contributors? Apps that run in the background? Too many apps? Too much space used? I can't think of much else, since, like I said, it's still fully stock. Or is this just what I have to expect from a phone?
Do you clear the cache in your app settings. If you game a lot than I would definitely start with the game apps first.

I kept my phone stock for quite some time because I felt I didn't need to change anything, until last week because I was tired of radio issues. Bottom line, ATT sucks at getting updates out, so if your running stock, your firmware is like three updates back. I see a massive improvements in speed and battery with 3.28.1540.5. If you know how, I would S-OFF and upgrade firmware to that and flash the debloated custom stock Rom that comes with root and SU. There are straight forward instructions in the att m8 development thread.

I might look into this. What I don't get though.. I can understand if new updates are quicker. That makes sense. What doesn't, is how ridiculously poor my phone runs compared to the first few months I had it. It's been like this for every phone I've had. I don't game, I don't have all that many apps. In my running app list, the only self installed things there are Facebook and Swype. I have plenty of extra storage internal and on my SD. So what is it that causes such poor performance over time? I'll definitely have to check out the newer roms and finally s-off.. but I've done plenty of custom roms before with other phones and the same thing always happens, things run fine for a bit and then slowly go to crap.

Its hard to say what is causing your issue, and aside from saying Swype is lagging (might be an issue with that app itself) and the phone "doesn't run so great anymore" you really haven't provided any specifics of what the problem is. You also haven't indicated if you tried to clear cached as jball suggested, and if so, if it helped at all.
Might be some runaway (poorly coded) AT&T bloat apps. But in general, apps running in the background will not slow the system down much. There are various apps to track battery and memory usage, so you might try one of those, to determine if any particular apps are the culprit.
I can't say I've seen any lag on my M8, but I switch ROMs fairly occasionally, and keep it updated to current Android builds (thanks to s-off). Clearing up your data partition alone might help (but might now, on the other hand) so you might also consider backing up any personal data and doing a factory reset. Wiping the slate clean might solve your issue.
Ok.. well a lot info there but one step at a time. I realized my phone is Sunday unusable with Wi-Fi turned on.. which is quite interesting and I'm pretty lost on this one. With Wi-Fi on, it's like my entire phone stops, not just the actual internet speeds. Apps like Facebook take ten seconds just to load, and then the actual content takes sometimes 15 seconds to load or maybe not even at all. Also, keep in mind, my actual internet speeds are fine, and even test perfectly fine on my phone.
As soon as I turn off Wi-Fi, it seems everything on my phone I'd dramatically quicker and everything loads near immediate. I've tried restarting my phone, cycling airplane mode, not really sure what else to do.

Does it happen anywhere you use WiFi? If so maybe try fully wiping and flashing the firmware, or just bust out the ruu to make it easier, can't hurt to try it should help tho
Did you even try to wipe cache, as has been suggested twice previously?
Otherwise, if no major system changes, and the phone has just been running worse and worse, a factory reset may help; as I would have to think it may be 3rd party apps that are to blame. Backup your personal data, factory reset, and just start to install a minimum of apps, and see how it runs.
If still no improvement, the above comment to try to RUU is not a bad idea, either. RUU provides a fully "blank slate" and may solve your issue.
Now that there are a couple of versions of the 'official' Lollipop update floating around for the Z3v and people are using it, what's the verdict? What are your thoughts? Was it worth the wait? Is it running alright, better, or worse, than KK? Any problems or concerns?
It might help if you let us know which version you installed (.485 or .509), if you're rooted, and if you did a clean wipe and install or flashed over your previous version.

It does not. I don't think it works on either build, but I'm running version .485, FYI.
Multi-user / guest mode also has been deactivated and is missing.
Im actually enjoying the update, fun little things here and there. Im greatful to have the update everything works well.
I have the unrooted .485 build. To my knowledge almost everything is working perfectly. Battery life is the same if not better. I love Sony's take on material design. The only two things missing are multiple user accounts and the ability to do voice over data, but I do not think that will be turned on until Verizon officially releases the update. Since verizon hasn't released it yet, I'm positive they haven't "hit the switch" to turn it on for our devices.
I'm waiting for Verizon to push this to my phone but am a little concerned that pdanet/foxfi will stop working for me when it comes. Any thoughts on this? What are my risks of waiting on not rooting? Wi-Fi hotspots is critical for me.

I'm actually experiencing a dramatic DROP in battery charge longevity and haven't been able to find out what's doing it.
Other than that, the upgrade is "OK", but without the missing features that we're waiting on Verizon for, I'm not sure it was worth all the hassle.
I just look at it as good practice for when 2 have to go through all this crap again when they finally do release the good stuff.
Edit...
After having whittled down some of the background apps that I had done in K.K. (per Gigaspx's list), I am now experiencing much better battery life. Also, now that I have Xposed-lollipop-z3v working to tweak the interface, it's looking less foreign to me and more intuitive.
I had both versions installed and clearly prefer 509. I had WiFi issues with 485 and my phones was overheating while wireless charging. 509 fixed those issues and everything is working fine. Compared to 4.4.4 everything is faster and I rely like the new lollipop interface. I haven't done any testing but I think that the battery life also improved.
I'm on 509 and have seen a few odd things.
My GPS locked up the other day and would not update my location. I had to reboot to fix it. This has never happened to me on this phone before.
Hitting recent apps lags. It takes long enough to come up with the list of recent apps that I start to question whether or not I hit the button every single time.
Settings from Tasker profiles that have always worked without a hitch are not being respected. For example, the screen will continuously turn off after 5 or 10 seconds but when I check the settings for screen timeout it says 2 minutes. Re-applying the profile works as expected after.
Other than that I'm enjoying LP. I'll have to do some testing to see what I can fix.

so can we downgrade from lolipop to kitkat?

I'm starting to have a constant wakelock. No idea why and I cant fully charge with a wireless charger.
I have only had lollipop a couple of days now (flashed 509). So far I like it. Battery is about the same, never have had any lag, maybe lollipop is a little faster? Several things I like - BT seems more stable, lock screen controls are now more consistent, and the security features are better (I use a pin to lock my phone). I generally like the small changes to the interface.
Things I don't like. The volume controls is not intuitive (muting etc). Themes don't work as well either. Can't seem to get navigation buttons to change.

I had Bluetooth problems updating to non root 5.02 without doing a factory reset. I switched back to 4.4.4, rooted and then updated with dual recovery and have had no issues for the past two weeks. My sony smartband talk watch was having a lot of problems which prompted me to go back to a clean factory reset 4.4.4 and then root. I used kingroot and installed recovery before flashing the prerooted 5.02. I'm getting 5.5 hours sot and its very stable.

I tested my Z3V on 5.02 with my son's Galaxy S5 and it does work including HD Video.
I was having the notification tray freeze up the whole phone from time to time. Had to force reboot.
Anyone else? It only happens sometimes when pulling it down.
Title says it all, made the mistake of upgrading to Oreo and now stuck with relentless battery drain issues. Tried everything short of reflashing so far and failed. Nearly everything is disabled even after full wipe and reset (hard) and its still pretty bad in terms of battery life. So I signed up here looking for ways to salvage the hardware, perhaps by downgrading back to Nougat if I still can or installing something better and different altogether. I've read folks having luck with the cell standby drain by installing a nougat/oreo mash but couldn't find specific details on how to do this. Also this doesn't seem to fix the android system drain issue but its at least a start. I have basic experience using Kies and Odin, helped a couple relatives with boot looping tabs in the past. Please advise on the best path forward to make use of my new phone.
Have you tried installing 7.0?
What version of Oreo did you install? I myself installed a TMO Ver G930TUVU4CRI2 but running on ATT network. I rooted and debloated and I am blown away how smooth this runs with fantastic battery life.

Title says it all, made the mistake of upgrading to Oreo and now stuck with relentless battery drain issues. Tried everything short of reflashing so far and failed. Nearly everything is disabled even after full wipe and reset (hard) and its still pretty bad in terms of battery life. I feel your pain. I was in the same situation, spending days to find a solution to these battery drain while stuck on this buggy version. And I tried everything...basic battery saving related stuff, disabling pretty much everything on the phone, monitoring everything, even changing the battery.
For now, the only thing that fix the problem for me was using a 3rd party app to force the phone to connect to none LTE network. I don't know where the bug lies: android, samsung or att side? or maybe it is because I'm out of US on another carrier who is using other freq but it is a shame. I don't think there will ever be a fix for that unfortunatly...
