Need help regarding UK Radio Drivers ??????? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Cut a long story short, got a new Z2, could not get 4G, so being inquisitive dialled *#*#4636#*#*, got into the tesing menu, went to phone information, set radio band and set it to the only option available, USA band (Set GSM/UMTS band)...and as a result I have a red x on top the signal bars...
I hope some one can help me rectify this.

SX56 - in South Africa

Hello All
Just a quick question to see if anyone had got the SX56 to work in South Africa. Currently running on 3.17.03ENG but alas no Phone signal as yet after some hair raising experiences with Flash ROM
Your help would be much appreciated
You need to change the band to 900MHz. The SX56 automatically defaults to 1900.
Phone Options More
I had exactly the same problem in SA. I found that sometimes, getting to the more options is a problem. If you have this issue, you can get to the GSM bootloader (by pressing the power swtch while soft-resetting and then pressing the task hardware button) and change it to 900/1800.
This should work fine.
SX56 in South Africa
Thanks guys for the advice
But alas no joy with reseting to GSM and a Cold reset it STILL says NO service when I look at the connectivity bar and not able to find a network when searching for it either
I guess it's cause I upgraded to the wrong Radio Stack (4.21.00) version last week. Which was a bit silly on my part. I guess that there is no turning back to another Radio Stack?
Pity I was really forward to using the GPRS - in RSA

Band switiching tool in USA

Just to be clear, I have a rom kitchen 1.2 rom, and an o2 uk xda. When I switch to 1900 nothing happens? In fact, none of the three bands work?
I did a search on this and it says that an international call bar has to be lifted by o2 to enable calls from usa on their sim, they give this
number to call to check if this is enabled, might help. 0870 860 860
xda band switching tool
My Simm card works in other tri band phones here, so the ban has been lifted, any other clues?
Have you tried changing bands using the bootloader method? Dont know if that will help but it is worth a try.
I don't know how to use the bootloader method? Can you tell me how?
Press the stylus into the reset button on bottom left (screen facing you) of the xda, while holding down the on/off key, this will put you in bootloader mode, then press the right hand key pad at the top of the screen, choose from there. You will see all the options gsm900 gsm1900 gsm900/1800, hope this helps.
I have done that and still nothing. However, i don't know how to exit the mode properly, all I do is reset the phone again, is their a proper way to exit this tool?
From this site.

DEBUG/CALI.
GSM TURN ON
GSM TURN OFF
GSM RESET
GSM 900
GSM 1900
GSM 900/1800
GSM RFCAL
GSM NORMAL
Now these look a lot nicer than they may be. We still haven't tested whether the device is actually a tri-band phone that is just software-limited to being a dual-band phone, but postings on the net seem to indicate that it is not actually a tri-band phone. But even though we think we know, we still need someone with access to a European phone in the U.S. or vice-versa to test this. We haven't tried, and we strongly advise against trying "DEBUG/CALI.", "GSM RFCAL" and possibly even "GSM RESET", unless you really don't care about the device. Options like these are used in factories where they have lots of expensive RF equipment to calibrate each individual phone. If you don't listen and still want to try these options, make sure you keep a good log of what happens, and please do tell us!
Over the next menu, this time after starting the bootloader and pressing the 'Action button', which is the center of the rocker key below the screen. This time, it quickly reports the GSM was already on, and then displays:

[Q] Band issue with Vodafone Suresignal

At work we have a Vodafone SureSignal as the normal mobile reception is rubbish. SureSignal has been working fine for some months with all phones including my HD2, but the box packed up last week. We have been sent a new box which was not picking up my handset. I phoned Vodafone and was advised to change the band selection from 'Auto' to 'UMTS(2100+900)'. Sure enough my phone connected to the device.
However, I understood that that would mean it would only connect where there is a 3G signal, so I tried selecting GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900) and that worked. But now that doesn't work and I can only connect to the SureSignal by selecting UMTS band only.
Does this mean anything to anyone, and can anyone advise whether there is anything I can do that means I don't have to keep changing the band selection on my phone manually every time I enter / leave the office? Is the box not doing something which is why my phone isn't picking up the 3G signal (I have no problem with 3G elsewhere)?
Thanks.

[Q] NO 3G just Edge after dropping my phone

Hello Guys,
I am so desperate and frustrated, hope you can help me!
I dropped my phone from 2 stairways height.
It was working so i didnt care, but when I came home I noticed that I had no reception!
So as I have bought the phone from Germany Amazon.com and using it in Turkey, I had no warranty (even if it said I have!!) I decided to open my SGS2 (I9100) and see if anything was loose. I lifted the pins that touched the middle housing and now I have reception for phone calls all the time thanks God!
But I have no 3G at all, what happens is that is some times shows G in the status bar but never with a + sign near it. I saw + sign only once or twice in the last couple of months.
I called my operator which is Turkcell and they said that my contract is on 3G so no chance on that side. The wierd think is that my phone works with no other SIM card than mine which is 5 years old!
Can anybody help in order to solve my problem? Is there a diagnoses tool that will help me test my SGS2 in order to find the errors?
Thanks for reading guys, I'd really appreciate some help.
Hmm I'd check my APN settings first, make sure they didn't randomly change for some reason. If that failed, I'd factory reset. If that failed I'd flash a new firmware+kernel+modem, and check my APN settings again.
If that failed I'd open it up again, disconenct and clean the antenna wire, reattach and hope for the best.
If that failed I'd suss out what is the most appropriate looking part/area of parts to replace, then replace it with either that specific part, or a pre-assembled part with the surrounding parts attached.
If that didn't work I'd list it on ebay as clearly stating the phone is damaged, outlining the problem and sell it "for parts only". Lots of people pay good money for damaged smartphones. Just make sure any sensitive data/pictures etc have been securely removed before selling it.
The problem with reception was fixed with lifting the pins that touched the middle housing but, stand by :
I think I never had 3G since I bought that phone from Germany.
I feel so stupid!
I read through more and more and I found that article:
androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/258859-how-enable-850mhz-3g-network-frequency-your-samsung-i9000-galaxy-s.html
It mentioned about the modem frequencies so gave it a try.
dialed the number * # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # * as stated and bingo!
My modem doesnt list GSM 2100 which is the deault frequency for 3G in Turkey!
But the article doesnt mention how I can ADD GSM 2100 from the menu that dialing that number took me.
Any help with this is appreciated!
First, that article is for am i9000, which is the S1. But that's largely irrelevant because the service menu code still works.
Second, this phone doesn't get GSM 2100. Never has. It gets WCDMA/UMTS 2100. GSM is for voice and 2g, WCDMA is for 3g/HSPA. Looks like you went to the wrong option. (GSM, instead of WCDMA, like the article said.)
Third, you CAN'T add frequencies, on that menu or otherwise.
Thanks.
So why is that my phone connects with only Edge?
Can this be a hardware problem where everything else works?
Maybe these setting are wrong? Or maybe it has a SIM lock? but it works with Turkcell
Is there any manual so that I can these settings_

You said above you don't think you ever had 3g. Maybe your carrier uses 3g frequencies this phone simply doesn't receive.
For example, this phone well never get a 3g signal on T-mobile USA's network, because the phone doesn't receive 1700 UMTS/WCDMA. This is one of two required bands on AWS... Which is the band T-mobile USA uses for 3g and "4g". If your carrier uses AWS for 3g, it won't work on their network either.

No this is not possible. Turkcell is using 2100 Hz.
I have bought 3 phones from amazon.de site. The other 2 phones are working.
I have to get my settings set properly, to make sure its a faulty product, so that I can return it.
There are menu options like HSPA revision, GCF, bank selection, service domain, acquisiton order etc..
Where can I find what they have to be?

In that case, just go back to that service menu, debug screen - phone control - network control - band selection. Make sure this is selected to automatic. You can make sure all available bands for this phone are selected on in combi bands. If they're all selected on, then it sounds like it could be a hardware issue.
EDIT to add: OR it could be a modem issue. Maybe try flashing different modems?
Turn back time and don't drop it

LTE Support APN Question

I recently signed up for a LTE plan, and the frequency of my provider is supported by the phone. I signed up for the plan, and did a factory reset from the about phone menu to make sure everything was reset.
The phone starts up, and it automatically picks up the APN information from - somewhere, not sure where to be honest. To make sure it detects the LTE network, I changed Highest connection speed to 4G in Settings > Cellular
However, no matter where I am in the country, the signal indicator shows full bars and either H or H+, it doesn't show LTE or 4G - so I thought it could be that the APN information isn't correct.
On my phone under Settings > System there is an option called "access point"; this has a the two default APNs from my provider; but I can't seem to edit them; only switch between them. Long press on either one shows only "activate" as the menu option.
Under Settings > Cellular there is "add internet apn", but this is blank.
All this leads to the following questions:
1. How can I edit or check the settings of the default access points under "access point".
2. Filling in the information under "add internet apn" doesn't seem to change anything.
3. Is H+ the same as LTE/4G or something else?
4. Do I need an updated SIM? The company promoted LTE with the iPhone 5 and under the FAQs one of the answers is to get an updated SIM if LTE doesn't work.
All of this is moot as the Lumia 920 does not support the LTE frequency that Zain uses, which is 1800 MHz. The highest speed you will see is H+, an evolution of 3G.
There are two versions of the 920. The non AT&T version supports 1800.

So it does... I was looking on the Wiki site and it didn't show it, but it does here: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_920-4967.php. Can you do a quick check in the ##3282 menu and see what bands are available for LTE on your particular device?
The problem was with the SIM. I went to the provider and I asked them to provide me a LTE SIM for the Lumia 920. Conversation went like this:
Me: "Hi, I have already activated LTE on my line, but I need a new micro sim"
Them: "Okay no problem but the iPhone 5 supports the nano SIM"
Me: "Yes, I know but I need a micro SIM because my phone is the Lumia"
Them: "Sorry we only support LTE on the iPhone 5".
Went to another branch
Me: "Hi, I need to replace my iPhone 5 SIM."
Them: "Certainly sir, the first replacement is free. What is the number?"
Then I went to a shop and got the nano to micro converter and now I have LTE on my Lumia. It shows up as "L" instead of "H+".
The iPhone 5 still manages to pull in a faster connection though, by a margin of 4 MB/s (using speed test at the same location, against the same server).

Great! Glad you were able to get it sorted. The SIM was going to be my next suggestion.
