Nope only way to root is flash a pre rooted zip and like 4.4.4 there wont most probably be any other way to root. So yes you will have to downgrade to 4.4.2-->Root-->Install Recovey-->Flash pre rooted 5.0

[Q] OTA Update same as current Build 14.1.B.1.532 ?

Hi
I've come to the sony from the note 2 and I'm happy so far but have 1 issue I can't resolve.
Phone details

Baseband 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10220006-17

Should I update anyway ? Or will that wipe root access ?
If I update, will it then update to 14.1.B.2.257 ota ?
Or am I best to get 14.1.B.2.257 update n do manually ?
Thanks for help

no matter how you update, you will lose ROOT access.
It is still possible to get root back after updating, but does require a lot of work arounds to do it.

No,this is not true. If you install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and do an OTA update, you can keep root. I tested it myself ...

Some thing I notes with update .257 that if you did OTA update the update will not delete the root or the busybox.

Is there any root available? Does the old method works? Also does it work on locked bootloaders?

Not at this moment no, but it appears that a pre-rooted zip isn't far off.

Is it the latest 4.4.4 for Z2? And is it pre rooted? Which means can I flash this on my locked Z2?

You will likely be waiting some time, because it's possible to downgrade and flash pre-rooted zip or to OTA certain FW's maintaining root, I don't see devs putting a lot of effort into finding an exploit. That said best hope is probably an exploit being found for Z3 which is transferable to Z2, but as I say you may be waiting some time.
So what you recommend to do if i want to have root on 167?

Try to create a rooted update package from the update ftf: [4.4.4] Create ROOTED update package from stock FTF [LOCKED BOOTLOADER]
So I need to flash dual recovery to do that
How can I make a full stock backup just in case I need to use it for warranty?

You don't need, you can flash back an original ftf anytime or repair with Sony PC Companion. We are talking locked bootloadr, so until you don't unlock it, you have warranty.
But if you already have root on prev. firmware, you should install DualRecovery and boot into TWRP and you can backup your system there.

I just bought the phone and I really miss root hehe so if I don't unlock the bootloader I can change recovery and flash a stock root rom without losing warranty?

Yes, if you have older firmware on the phone, you can try the root options available and you can use recovery without unlocking th bootloader. If you have the latest, than you can possibly flash an older firmware to your phone and root that. But you need to read a bit, to understand everything correctly.

unable to root xperia z2 4.4.4

Hey guys,
I have been looking for a method to root my xperia z2 for a couple of days, but all the methods i found didn't work
I hope you can help me out
Here's a screenshot of the About section of my phone.
Android version: 4.4.4
Model number: D6503
Build number: 23.0.1.A.0.167
Thanks,
If you spend 5 min looking through the forum or searching you'd have found out that rooting is not possible on a 4.4.4 based firmware directly. You need to downgrade or unlock your BL (not recommended!)

You can use flashtool to downgrade...see in development section
Use Flashtool to downgrade, root, backup TA partition, unlock bootloader, do whatever you want
Thanks so much
I'll try that flash tool then ^^
>>First Downgrade using Flash tool
>>usb debugging on// and Root phone using "Easy root toolkit V11"
>> Backup TA ITS IMPORTANT,,,, using may be "Backup TA.9.11""
>>install CWM or XZdual recovery
>>use PRFCreator V 05 and create pre rooted firmware using 23.0.X.X.XXX ftf
>>Copy to your sd and flash throgh CWM ( no apps loss)

I have already back to KK, no root -- no gapps... Pls let me know when you find the solution. Thanks.
there's lolipop custom rom in russian forum, its original firmware with some tweaks and u can flash it using kitkat twrp, flash it together with supersu after flash that rom and then reboot, there' the only way to root s90 lollipop fr now as i know, but u will lose twrp and only stock recovery after that. i have tested it but went back to kitkat because cant use xposed in lollipop without custom recovery.

Just search at Google with your mobile brand and model of your phone and download its firmware and just flash that
