[Q] S2 starts shutting down after flashing CM 11 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone and thanks for the great site/forum!
So I finally rooted my good old Samsung Galaxy S2 and also flashed CM 11 Nightly (Kit Kat) on it. And I did the battery calibration as well.
The problem is that after I did this the phone was ok for about a week but then started to shut down without a reason all by itself. If it's connected to a charger it's fine but without it the problem occurs.
I've tried factory reset and clearing both caches. Didn't help.
I've read about the issue and it seems that this is nothing new with Android phones. But I haven't had this problem at all before I flashed a new ROM to my phone. Is there anything you think I should try? Are there any ROM's that are more stable than CM 11?

Try using a new battery. They are cheap online. Sounds like the phone isn't getting enough power without the charger

You think that might be the solution? Well, I might as well give it a try because I've never changed the battery on my phone. It's gotten pretty bad in the two years I've had the phone but I just haven't gotten around changing because I'm not sure which places sell authentic Samsung batteries. I guess Google knows, I'll ask them.
Thanks a lot for the reply!

To add on to this, a genuine battery is the one you want There are many on ebay (In my country) and online too. Just make sure to research whether they are the real deal or not.

[Q] Too cold battery - not charging

Hi everyone!
I have my galaxy S2 for almost a year now, and I never had a problem. A week ago, I saw on a widget that the temperature of my battery is -10°C. I first thought it was an system error, without any differences for my usual use. When I plugged my phone in, the phone said the battery is too cold, and the loading is suspended. My battery depleted. I bought a new one, and have the same problem. I didn't find anything on forums.
I'd add that I tried to update to the latest android version (4.0.3), wich brings nothing.
I've done a factory reset, it doesn't help me.
My phone is rooted, so I don't know if the support will be free for my phone...
Thanks a lot!

(Solved) fake charging in galaxy s2

If you are facing an issue with Samsung galaxy SII with fake charging and you think that it’s a port issue and you are willing to change the USB port for your device please stop and action the below steps 1st to make sure that its not a software issue
• Take a backup from all your data in the internal memory
• Wipe your device by dialing the code *2767*3855# in your phone app
• Open the device in the download mood and flash on it a stock 2.3.5 OS
• After that you’ll find your device working like charm
• Don’t root your device in this phase, just flash it with a stock 4.0.3 and then flash it with the root from CF-root
• After that you can flash a custom ROM and I recommend Resurrection Remix
• The idea that you change from ICS to ginger bread that you will completely wipe everything in your device so it will be as if you are buying it new.
Appreciate that the above is helping people having this issue as I had it and now its solved.
The Original Post down there
Dear XDA team,
Appreciate your support on the below:
I’m an android user since 2009 I had many devices since that date ended with galaxy SII i9100 “international edition” 16GB
It was working fine from Dec 2011 till 4 days back.
4 days back the battery was 10 % and I plugged the original charger to the device and I slept for about 8 H, then I unplugged the charger how ever since that time my device is having the animation of the charging in the battery and its giving that its already plugged to the charger.. The main issue that I thought it’s a USB port issue so I tried to clean it with alcohol and with a tooth brush gently and nothing was helping... then I found that in the CWM the USB cable is working fine in mount mood so this means that nothing bad with the port so I tried to think about the ROM, I formatted the system drive and cleaned the kernel and installed the official software ICS 4.0.3 and I removed the root.. I still have the issue and its always giving me that the battery health is overvoltage I asked someone in the local warranty and he stated that there is some issue with water with the device which I know by heart that it was not effected by water.. I thought maybe because all the galaxy SII users are experiencing overheated issues and we spent most of the time in air conditioner here in Egypt so it can affect by heat and the condensation process but supposed that the device must have a failsafe protocol .. I have a good faith in Samsung but I found that the issue is still there and nothing was treated, someone told me that it can be a battery issue and you have to install a new battery and I did changed the same and I tried to put also the battery in deep freezer to lose its volts and nothing helped ..
Last trouble shooting made was to try to remove the battery and put the device in the sun to have any amount of moisture away and I let it about 3 H and also I put the charger in the device without the battery and I found it opening without battery as this was for me something strange.
Please share your ideas with me as I can’t find help from the warranty or from anyone and I don’t want to void my warranty by changing the USB port as most of people advised to..
Waiting for your kind ideas to help me with my poor situation
Sorry for making it long for you to read all the above but I really want to explain everything I did to help in solving the problem as I searched the internet and I found that many people are experiencing the same.
Your kind feedback is highly appreciated.
i'm sorry to tell you but it seems that you do have some problems with the usb flex cable (usb socket) and from what i have read here it seems that it doesn't need for the phone to be soaked in water... just condensation can cause you these problems... so you can guess what i can advise you... replacement
when i had the same problem i took it to servicing and they dismounted it and cleaned it properly, it worked for a couple of days but i ended up replacing the faulty part

Thanks gigeaky for your support i wish i can have any other solution.
My experience is different. I just got the phone and it was charging normally albeitba little slow compared to my sensation but now with a custom rom it has the fake charging issue.

If you were on a gingerbread rom before you should know that it doesn't show you that error, but you can try. And also I'm not trying to be rude but search for this problem and read the specific thread... Last time I checked there were almost 20 pages about this problem.

If you don't want to change the part for the USB port, then you're eliminating the one thing that will definitely fix your issue.

Remove battery, goto recovery wipe data cache.

Still issue change the modem

I did all what you've mentioned and its not helping i guess its a battery issue as i tried something here .. i put the device in the download mood and its was connected to odin fine .. also now am having the device connecting as internet tethering activated on my laptop.. definitly i need a larger battery to use but the issue that no one is selling the same in Egypt
if any one know a place in Egypt selling <2000 MAP battery for Galaxy S2 i'll be glad to have this thing done ASAP.
today i went and through the device to the warranty office in order to be fixed there and they had a look in the device they mentioned that its a recurrent issue and it must be water and they will check the same and feed me back .. warranty here in Egypt is sucks like everything about this damn country.
wish me luck
Before doing anything dramatic, try the following method, which worked successfully for me:
Get a compressed air can and blow the USB input a few times in short bursts. Do not use anything else than compressed air, unless you want to run into more serious problems.
I face the problem calibration also not working and i got no ans that can solved the problem for me too now m also searching the result.

[Q] samsung sgs2 i777 wont boot up when connected

ive searched xda for a couple of days, ive googled, ive youtubed. and nothing has helped. seems like not many people are having this problem. but i recently got a galaxy s2 i777. stock GB firmware. stock everything. everything on it worked fine all connections and all the other good stuff. the only problem is when i try to charge it via wall charger it automatically shuts off and flashes the battery charging over and over again. (btw when i plugged in i CAN boot into download mode) same thing happens when plugged via usb. So i got tired and i odined flashed ICS because i read that would fix many bugs.. to my surprise it fixed the battery flashing issue and now when its off and plugged in it charges like it normally would but i CANNOT boot up when its connected to any power source. and even on ICS it still shuts itself off when plugged in. i need to know how i can get it to stay turned on when charging.
sorry if its a little long guys. i hope you can help me solve this problem, and to the ones that are gonna ask why i started a new thread just for this.. well because no one else seems to be having my specific problem. tThank you guys so much in advance for your help

Stock sgs2 att batteries?
(⊙_⊙)
Sounds like the battery is the problem. Make sure the battery you have is NFC. Immediately under the Samsung logo at the top on both sides, it should say Near Field Communication.
The other option of course is to try flashing a different Rom and kernel and see if the problem persists. But they're most likely correct, you'll probably need a new stock battery. Some phones you can use a battery bought from anywhere, our phones are just kinda temperamental. Most likely because of the NFC capability but that's just a guess.

When using a stock Sammy Rom you need a stock battery w/NFC. A Aokp/Cm9 can sometimes use an after market battery. I found that out after buying one without NFC and it did what you describe. Right now I am running Task AOKP with non NFC batt and everything is fine.

[Q] Help Me Please, Urgent!

Hi, i was hoping you to help me. My phone is getting crazy.. I had a custom rom, the cm11 weekly build, and then i started having troubles with random reboots. Suddenly, my phone with 100% battery powers off and stays that way until i noticed that, then i power on and i have 1% battery and it turns it off. I thought it was a OS problem, so i installed the stock rom to see if it would solve, but turns out that when i'm around 60% battery it reboots again and again, and there's a flicker on the screen. I tried to root and flash another rom, i tried to keep it off for a few days, i tried to drain the battery as fast as i could but it doesn't solve it. So i'm thinking if it could be a battery issue, maybe it's kinda dead.. What do i do? do i buy a new battery or maybe it's another issue? Had anyone had a similar problem? Would it be possible that the companies on purpose make the phone to get crazy after a couple years as a strategy to sell more? Sorry for my bad english, and thanks in advance for your help.

doesn't hurt to try a new battery, they cost around 10 dollars, and no, phone companies don't do that as a strategy to make you buy a new phone. They stop officially updating your phone to make you buy a new one.

Exactly, i was scared because where i'm from (Argentina) the phones are just impossible to buy, way too expensive. And there's no even the newest phones because the government don't let import/export whatever we want, so it's gonna be hard for me to get a new battery...
I would get new battery and test it for a day then flash different ROM , stock for few days then any good rated ROM

SM-G850F power issues

Hi,
I have a lot of trouble with my wife's Galaxy Alpha phone.
Sometimes, it switch off alone.
Last time it was when charging, it starts to charge for 5 min, then switch off showing the logo during switch off, as if it was requested by software (not a battery problem).
Sometimes it restarts normaly as soon as I press the power button (boot normaly), but sometimes, it bootloops.
I found a workaround for it, having to press the power button until complete boot (asking pincode), then releasing the power button and entering the pincode, and it works normaly, for some days.
Seems pehaps an hardware issue ?
This starts a month ago, without any related causes.

First try to flash stock firmware with odin.
If this didn't help it's very possible to be a hardware problem.

In fact both.
It appears first time when I was using the original rom.
Then I flashed a new rom using odin.
It worked without any problems for a week, and reapered.

Yeah sorry, but I think it's a hardware problem... Try at a service, maybe it's something simple and costs less.

The shutdown seems to be related to Google Play. The phone shutdown when updating some applications through Google Play !
Is there a revert to stock google play application and force it to never update again ?
Seems that the latest version of google play have some troubles.

I didn't encountered this issue on my alpha, try a factory reset.
Battery issue, maybe....?
I have an old battery and the symptoms are similar. The efficiency is no longer the same and sometimes it turns itself off suddenly.
My other battery is newer and it doesn't happens.
These batteries are fragile and lose reliability quickly (most noticeable after a year, depending on usage).
Seems that I have fixed the problem. A hardware one.
After opening the phone... completely so that able to manipulate the motherboard I found that the small connector to the power button was not correctly fixed.
After a deep cleaning of all the contacts on the motherboard and fixing the connector I reassembled everything.
It is now working well for more than 3 days without any issues.

I bought a new mobo, now it works perfectly fine, I actually bought two just in case I broke something while installing it, but first one is good to go, experiencing some drain issues tho with my old battery tho, so i have to recycle that. Any way, it all ended well and now I got another mobo incase this one breaks ^^

Greetings. My Samsung Galaxy Alpha is dead since 2016. Not charging, not turning on. If possible send me the exact AliExpress seller link. One more thing, is it possible to find the front facing camera of this device? When i give my device to a technician he lost the camera. The camera was 2.1 megapixel.
