Hello I know it's a fat chance this will actually pick up but I feel the gear s as a standalone phone would be well complemented by a small bluetooth handset like the htc mini+. Since the gear s is marketed as an accessory I find it doubtful that Samsung will produce a similar product so while the htc mini+ is only compatible with htc android and windows phone. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making this happen. I know it seems dumb why not just get a flip phone but I have interest so I'm checking if anyone else will get behind this, thank you. Asking for comments from anyone willing to develop this functionallity and a small poll attached to determine interest

Lots of companies make stands for the ipad like this:

Does anyone know if there is a universal stand or one specifically for the viewsonic? or do you have any creative ideas for making your own?
Is anyone aware of any mods that support bluetooth low energy. I'm really interested in getting a sports tracking wristband but every one of them requires BLE to sync to phones. I've read that android 4.3 will support it but I doubt our phones will ever see that officially.
Check out the "UP by Jawbone" in the accessories section. There's some discussion there regarding these fitness bands
I've been involved in that thread. It seems that the only android devices officially working with these wristbands through bluetooth are S3/S4/Note2 as Samsung has done their own work to get BLE working on these devices. Just wondering if there are any mods I'm not finding through search out there that would work on other phones.
I'm not sure what to tell you. Hopefully somebody else chimes in...
I know the up syncs thru headphone jack. I also know that the Bluetooth stack used in our phones is lacking...
Have you tried any AOSP ROMs ?
No I haven't made the jump to try out that side yet(I'm pretty attached to Sense's Car Mode vs other apps lol). Possibly will when 4.3 comes out. Especially with the upgraded bluetooth stack.
First off, apologies if this is not in the correct forum, I'm not sure if this is device specific or not...
I have 2 phones. An AT&T Galaxy S5 and a Samsung ATIV S Neo running Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. The one feature I absolutely love about the Neo is the ability to read and respond to SMS over bluetooth in the 3 vehicles I own... they are:
2014 Chevrolet Impala LT with MyLink (no Nav)
2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS (with Mylink and Nav)
2012 Chevrolet Traverse (no MyLink or Nav)
On what I am guessing is the MAP part of Bluetooth, my Windows Phone works with each vehicle flawlessly to receive and respond to SMS. I can't say the same for my S5 (which by the way, is rooted, running SafeStrap, and running Alliance ROM so that I can have Car Mode, which AT&T saw fit to remove out of their version). I can only get the S5 to work correctly with the Traverse, which also happens to be the oldest vehicle. I have yet to find a 3rd party app that might be able to get around this.
It is beyond frustrating that a 2014 device such as the S5 does not work with vehicles that are relatively new in this regard. Is this true of all 2014 devices? I wish there was an easy way to find out. Most car manufacturers and even aftermarket ones don't even list any 2014 devices as being compatible with them... I know it might sound like nitpicking, but a phone (the Neo) that was released almost a full year ago works fine across all my vehicles... am I missing something here?
And yes, the new thing with Android and vehicle integration is all well and good, but probably won't be able to see that in action for what.. another year at least?
UPDATE: I have since moved on from the S5 and have tried an HTC One M8, and a LG G3, both with similar issues. I have found an app called Robin that kind of worked on the G3, and another called SMS, My Car and Me (SMS+Car) that sort of works on the M8. The M8's own car mode works best but far from perfect. Voice recognition is not good, and has an issue quite similar to responding to sms and emails on Android Wear devices. It gives you absolutely no time to pause before sending, but in the case of the M8, the window to respond is way too short.
Thoughts? Opinions? Advice?
So no one has a clue.. Am I asking this on the right forum? Am I phrasing the question wrong or something? Why can't anyone answer or offer any insight on this? A little help here please?
Hi all!
Just got a Gear S and i must say i am loving it.
Thing is, my main phone is an iPhone 6 and i am too tied into the Apple ecosystem to change that now.
I have two SIM cards with the same number and i intend to use one of them on my iPhone and the other one on the Gear S.
The usage scenario for the watch is the standalone.
However, i need to have an easy way to install apps and setup the remote connection, so i am thinking of buying a cheap (as cheap as it can get) compatible Samsung phone.
My best guess is the Galaxy S3 mini would do, but i am not sure.
Can someone please confirm this or suggest another 100% compatible (but also dead cheap) phone i can use with my Gear S?
Thank you very much in advance!
im also using iphone as my main phone. what i did was, i pair with my friend's phone for startup and update and downloading and then take him out to lunch.
it is much more cheaper.
Thank you @stkpxl! @kois86 this is a great idea!!
However, each time you sync with your fired you also get his addressbook and call list, which should not be very convenient, right?
Hi all, as we know the Tab7+5G has no NFC (Near Field Communication) hardware or software/firmware installed
by Samsung, while I know this is not a mobile phone it has everything else that a mobile phone can do, so
I don't understand why Samsung would leave off such a cheap production add on, maybe something to do
with their flat magnetic Keyboard/Cover installation to the back of S7 Tablet?
Anyway, for the expert members (I have looked around and googled) is there anyway I can
install an aftermarket removable NFC Dongle into USB C port and perhaps run an appropriate
App to activate so I can get working NFC on this S7 Tablet, or is it impossible or non-existent.
Thanks from this old guy, sorry to ask such a question but I cant find clear answers.
Yes, it's true, this tab lacks NFC. When I bought it, I just assumed that it had it, and was surprised that it doesn't.
It also doesn't have a proximity sensor, which is more important to me, but not a deal breaker.
Another thing that really ****ing peeves me is that you can't get the 256/500GB variant's if you also want LTE/5g. For some retarded reason, they restricted the carrier versions to 128gb only. Why can't I have 500GB AND 5g compatibility in the same tab? The WiFi only/carrier version's of the Tab S7+ are exactly the same size, there's no technical reason why the carrier versions can't have the larger sizes too.
Who are we lowly users to question the design decisions of Samsung?
