[Q] enable USB debuging - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys
i recently dropped my ONE S and a truck roll over it. as you can imagine the display is completly shattered. now i want to connect it to my windows 7 pc (it gets recognized) but not htc sync.
i just want to know if i can/should repair the screen and still use it or if it is so badly damaged that i can throw it in the bin. i wanted to check via adb, but i have a stock device, no root/usb debuging on.
so i have no screen, no adb...how can i connect to it?
regards

[Q] HELP - Why is it saying "USB Device Not Recognized" for WMDC?

So, I just got a HTC HD2 and am trying to connect it to the PC. By the way, did the TMOUSA HD2 ever come with a cd?
I have a vista and tried to download the Activesync 4.5 but it won't allow as I am suppose to download Windows Mobile Device Center. So, I download WMDC and installed it. I plug in the phone and all I get is "USB Device Not Recognized" . PC doesn't detect it.
I have searched everywhere and tried everything but can't seem to get it going. I haven't anything solid to get it to work.
I tried:
-reinstalling the WMDC
-check and uncheck "Enable faster data sync"
Anybody have any idea? TIA
Is the phone charging LED lighting up when connected?
Have you tried another USB cable and/or another computer?
Then you could boot the phone up in Bootloader Mode. It will say 'serial' at the bottom of the screen. Then plug in the USB cable. The 'serial' should change to 'USB'. Then this might indicate that your computer is viewing the device as a unknown device. This device can be removed and your phone, in normal mode, replugged in.
This may not help, but it's worth a try. Vista has a known issue where it just stops recognising USB devices, even basic ones. Plug your phone in via USB and then restart the computer. When it comes back on it may recognise the phone. If this works then it will be okay for a while at least, but you may have to do this again every now and then.
Vista's basically a bug-ridden bag of gash. If you can, upgrade to Windows 7.
Hope this helps mate.

I tried with a laptop with vista (WMDC) and a laptop with xp (activesync 4.5). The led charging light is on, so it is charging but for some reason device not recognized.
I tried the bootloader (not sure what that does) and it says serial and then I plugged in the usb and it still says serial.
Still not working

I think I tried that already but I'll give it a shot again. At this point, I'll do anything lol. I was so stoked in putting android in this too
does any one think a hard reset might help?
It sounds as though the USB controller in the phone is damaged. I had this problem with my HTC Diamond, and searched for ages trying to find a solution. I manged to flash it with a couple of times with different ROMs (from the internal memory via WiFi) - this did not solve the problem.
I am sure that a power surge from a car charger was the cause of the fault.

it couldn't hurt. i would - see what happens.
try checking cabling first or change the cable
Same problem
I am having the exact same problem. My phone can charge on the computer but I cant sync of even access it via the "Disk Drive" setting. I have tried both AcrtiveSync and the Disk Drive option, unchecking fast data synchronization, reseting the phone, and reinstalling WMDC. I have Windows 7 with the latest updates. I have also tried connecting it to two other Win7 machine with identical "device not recognized" results. The phone and cable and practically brand new. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm at my wits end with this phone and it has been beyond frustrating.
Dom
Try another pc... buddy wid wmdc in it... go for win 7
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I am having same problems have tried on a vista pc, my mac and mac running parallels, nothing works. Reckon it is as fred_up says, damaged usb controller which means no NAND Android for me.
Been having similar problems, but seems to have been less likely to occur if I click "Safely remove hardware" in Vista or W7, and remove the device - yes even Activesync (doesn't seem to be available in XP)

did anybody find a soulution?
hi
did anybody get solution for this? i m having the same problem.
phone doesnt sync with wmdc, nor connect as disk, only charges itself.

i have done everything, changed cables, pcs, re installed wmdc, even flashed new roms using micro sd....nothing happened.
is this a hardware issue? why can it be charged but not synchronised?
pls help anybody.
Try another Cable. In my case, changing the cable works. Now i m using my HD mini cable with HD2 and it is working well.

thanks,
but i have already tried all that.
today i called a phone repair shop and they told me that
this could be due to two reasons.
1. usb port problem.-in which case it is replaceable for about 15 usd.
2. problem with an IC (?) of the circuit (guess the motherboard) - in which case
it is either not repairable or very expensive.
i ll keep posting as i go and visit the shop.
if there's another solution pls share here.
Some possible solutions to non-USB
Having come here via a search, I'll resurrect the thread with a brief comment. I'm having the same problem, haven't tried them yet but found several promising suggestions:

thanks for resurrecting the thread.
actually i went to that phone repair shop i mentioned earlier and they fixed it by replacing the usb port. still it didnt work with win 7 laptops. but was fine with xp laptops. dont know why...anyway i have said good bye to my hd2 long ago & using android now
guess lots of people are.
good luck to you all.

[Q] USB not detected

Hi, my phone just charges when I connect to any PC, it doesn't detect it on the system and even on the phone. I tried to check and uncheck the usb debugging and the logo came back on the phone (but still nothing in the PC). And now whenever i plug it in the usb debug mode comes and when I try to use mass storage option it allows but PC dosnt respond in a matter of seconds it goes away. My friend had flashed my phone with the stock rom 4.2.1 from XDA itself last year sometime in november and after that it has been great. I believed it was a cable fault so I showed it to a repair shop where the guys checkd with their PC and a new cable and none of their PCs detected it, even the OTG cable they tried wasn't detected on the phone. They say its an error in the Jack which can be repaired in a couple of hours for Rs 250. I have no problem in doing that but I don't know if its a jack error or something inside my phone (some sort of setting) causing it. Please help

[Q] Need help turning on usb debugging by pc

Last week I broke my digitizer and now it doesn't work at all. The phone is running stock right now. Luckily I had hands free mode still turned on when it all happened so I can still make calls. But I've been looking for a way to turn on usb debugging by adb or something. I've looked around all the stores near me for an OTC cable and can't find one so I need a walkthrough of some sort or someone to tell me I'm hosed and I can't do this.

Micromax Canvas HD A116- Will Not Connect To PC VIA USB

Ok,so guys,I know this might not be the place to ask such questions, but I m gonna need all the help i can get. READ CAREFULLY:
I have a phone named Micromax Canvas HD A116 . I live in India. So one night,it was raining, and me and my friend were on a scooty, and I was wearing pajamas which had short pockets.I kept my phone in the pocket, and I didn t realize when we were driving the scooty,my phone had fallen down from my pocket onto the slightly wet road.It was drizzling,no heavy showers but still.I went and picked my phone up,and wiped the water off it and we went home.
Now,I plugged it in for charging as usual, but it didn t charge, nor did it show the lightning charging symbol. I tinkered around the settings of my phone and finally got it to charge.
But now I have a new problem: My phone won t connect to my pc via usb cable. When my phone s switched off and I connect it,my pc makes the connecting sound (in Windows 8.1 Pro)
But when I switch my phone on and connect,it doesn t connect and my pc doesn t make any sound or detect it. I have formatted my phone, but still no luck. Any help except getting a new phone? Please?

OPPO A72 Water Damage (In need of help recovering data)

Greetings everyone, recently my OPPO A72 fell in some Water and even though the phone still practically works, sometimes i struggle to see whats going on in the screen because of the water damage, and worst of all is, i cannot use the touch screen, making it impossible for me to backup my data before getting the screen replaced, even though USB Debugging IS enabled. I've heard that i could use ADB to backup my data or control my phone through my computer, but i get an error message on the CMD window, similar to : Device unauthorized whenever i try to activate ADB . Are there any workarounds you could recommend me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS: Connecting the mouse to my phone using an OTG adapter also doesn't seem to work, as them mouse simply refused to power on (maybe because im connecting it through a tiny "micro-USB to micro USB-C adapter?)
