Hi all.. Quick question.
I've just started the process of trying to root my One Max (international) and everything has gone smoothly with unlocking the bootloader etc, and i've flashed a CWM image to it as my recovery, but once i've rebooted, volume down and select recovery, hit power, it says entering recovery but then screen goes off, waits about 20-30 seconds and boots up as normal.. Is the CWM image file wrong? And if so, can i just redo the process of flashing the rom again the same way, or do i need to uninstall this image before i can? Does any new image not just overwrite?
I'm just a little frustrated at this point because it's now unlocked and tampered yet i have no root access.

Go with twrp it roots the device after first time going through the recovery. I've heard of issued with cwm.

The reason i picked CWM over TWRP was because i'm familiar with it and like the UI.. TWRP just seems too basic looking. But my initial question still remains. Can i simply re-run the process over the top with TWRP or do i need to remove CWM before i can write TWRP to the device?

Ok well i'll give TWRP a go. But do i need a specific .img file? Because when i go onto the TWRP site to get the version i need, it only lists Sprint and Verizon for the One Max. I'm on International so surely need a GSM or Non-US variant surely? Or can i just use the M7 GSM version?
Thanks.

Ok, now i've just redone this procedure exactly the same but with TWRP instead of CWM and it's doing exactly the same thing.. Why does it just go blank after saying "entering recovery" then boot as normal after about 20 secs? I really want root access but can't see how i'm going to get it if my phone won't boot into recovery.

Ok.. I finally figured what was wrong.. The .img was too new a version and clearly my phone didn't like it.. So i used an older version and it's done the whole process perfectly. So to anyone else having the same problem, try an older version.
Ok, hang on.. It seems i might not be rooted.. I've installed TWRP, done my Nandroid backup installed Superuser and a few root checkers and one of them said i was rooted, while the others couldn't gain access, same with Superuser and SuperSU, they both say they can't access binaries etc.. Now i assumed once the phone said tampered, unlocked and had TWRP installed that it was rooted.. Is this the case? I have attached some thumbnails of various screengrabs so someone can tell me if i am or if something has gone wrong.. When i did it on my DHD it was never this hard to root..

Im having problems, with the root everytime I try to update the phone. It starts up the it gives me an error. I've also tried fixing the signature and still nothing. Does anyone have idea of what might be wrong with it.
Did you remember to wipe the intake manifolds? Also make sure the flux capacitor is set to "low".

Ok I've rooted my phone with Z4root. I've got rom manager and Superuser. Now once it's been rooted it says that it will reboot and update. Well every time it goes to update it will begin then it comes up with an error saying failed to get signature.
You need to install clockworkmod so you can use custom recovery to "update things"

Do you know how to use Odin? If so, odin this recovery: http://download758.mediafire.com/1xdue0d5bugg/06al8prkgj29gps/cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar this recovery can flash anything. Use this to update

Here is the link for odin: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/RootSF/Odin3 v1.3.exe Download and install it on your PC. Once it is installed, open it. Then turn off your phone and pull the battery out. Hold the volume down button and at the same time plug your phone into the PC. It should go into download mode. Find the PDA button (in odin) and click it. ONLY USE THE PDA BUTTON!!! Then find the linked file I gave you earlier and select it for PDA. Then hit start. When you see a green "pass", unplug the cable and put the battery back in and hold down both the volume buttons and power button at the same time. Hold them until you see the samsung logo. You will then boot into cwm recovery. From there you can flash whatever rom or kernel that you have already put on your SD card.
Don't use rom manager on the fascinate.....that's a problem

Wow, way to NOT answer the guy's question. He's trying to, what I can see, do an OTA update, which WILL fail if you're rooted.
You HAVE to remove root if you're trying to do an OTA update.
Also, Stock Samsung Recovery will fail on unsigned zips. you would need the hacked 2e recovery, or just flash ClockworkMod with Odin.

No but seriously, what exactly are you trying to do with your fascinate/i500? Trying to put a new version of android on it? Just trying to get root? We have fairly standard ways of doing things now-a-days depending on what you're doing.

I can not connect to my i500 with USB. I have the issue I have read about where connecting to a laptop only charges the device. I have tried every trick I could find and no go. So, Odin and similar methods are out for me. I have root. So, whatever options I have, have to be performered on the device itself. If I could get a recovery to replace stock, that would be a start. Then I could disable signature verification and the like. I could try methods using terminal emulation or something similar. I just know there has got to be a way to do more than root the i500 without using USB! Any suggestions?
Has anyone attempted to do this yet?
1. Root your prime (without unlocking it)
2. Flash clockwork recovery (not sure if it will do it or not)
3. backup your primes rom in clockwork
4. reboot and unlock the primes bootloader
5. go into clockwork recovery and wipe data
6. restore previous rom
7. bootloader re-locked?!?!
Im not sure if it will work, but can someone tell me if it world work or not?(I am a noob when it comes to unlocking a phone/tablet)

Lol this will not work.
You could not boot into cwm without an unlocked boot loader(hence the lock on what you can boot) and what your backing up with cwm isnt touching the bootloader stuff, so it could not be restored
With this logic, running a restore would restore to before a point before you even had CWM and thus you would have to reinstall it every time
Plus your serial has already been sent to Asus anyway, so why would you want to relock it?
*appropriate 'winning' tag btw
royredman said:

2. Flash clockwork recovery (not sure if it will do it or not) Your method fails the first time here. You need an unlocked bootloader in the first place to flash CWM
3. backup your primes rom in clockwork
4. reboot and unlock the primes bootloader
5. go into clockwork recovery and wipe data
6. restore previous rom Second problem is here. CWM doesn't backup the "unlock-token" which ASUS' tool writes, so restoring abackup won't do anything.
7. bootloader re-locked?!?!

The bootloader itself might act like it's locked again, but that doesn't change the fact that your serial has probably been uploaded and logged already as having been unlocked at some point.
[Whoops, hit the thanks button. How to undo that?]

I am stock rooted and didn't modify a single thing. The only thing I did was flash TWRP recovery because I was planning on flashing ROMS but I eventually decided to stick to stock rooted so I reflashed the stock recovery. I received the update a week ago and proceeded to install it. However, it seems to fail. When the phone boots into stock recovery it attempts to install the update but at about a 3rd of it's progress it immediately stops and all that is displayed on the screen is a phone flat down with a red triangle and exclamation mark inside it. I've tried searching about this but everything I find leads me to the One X and I've never owned that phone so I'm not sure how similar they really are. Does anyone know why this is happening? Would it possibly be due to a corrupted recovery file within my download source? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?

As far as I'm aware unlocking the bootloader or flashing an RUU are the ONLY things that wipe your storage. Flashing recoveries doesn't touch it except for adding in the necessary files to function properly.

Will give this a try as soon as mine arrives.. my PC is getting too old and cluttered it'll be nice to do this device from my MAC. Thanks
Will this prevent me from getting the OTA updates? I could install them manually that doesn't bother me , but I had a bad experience when I rooted my nexus 4, when I tried to apply the update manually it didnt go through, it always gave a " operation aborted" message , why was that? Would it be the same if I root my nexus 5?
Will rooting erase my data? I know unlocking the bootloader does, but I'm not sure if rooting does

I'm on mavericks and I get "Root.Nexus.5" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"
Granted I only tested it without the phone plugged in to see what it says.

I unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp but when I tried to reboot the phone so I could add the SuperSU zip to root, it gets stuck at the Google boot animation. Any help would be appreciated

What are you asking me? I understand lol
How do I get into RECOVERY
How to install it?
This is what I ask
Or do not need to install
To enter it via ADB? Like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732311
You can enter recovery by typing reboot recovery in a terminal app on your phone if you got root. It is a stock recovery so it would not give you so much options as clockwork recovery.

This looks like a rush job to me, almost with microsoft and their os release dates. hopefully there will be an "update" to fix that. I know someone mentioned you can't do much in recovery.

Looks like everyone may have the same issue, only thing we can do is wait and see who can make a recovery for us. I hope there's minor differences.
Update: my device shows the same, so this proves that LG rushed the release of the device.

First of all: Pardon me for my bad english.
My phone is Hungarian T-mobile locked. It did the same. But after root, I was able to go to Stock 3E recovery.
To get cwm and/or twrp, we need to open the bootloader. In "normal" way with adb, I can't open it. Even with G2-s update.zip.
If any dev can find a way to open the bootloader, then it's much easier to make a custom rom and the cwm.

Unlocking the bootloader isn't 100% required but it would help a lot.

You can use this method to work around the SD not being loaded in recovery (install partition wizard home edition.exe and ext2fsd.exe)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732311
DO NOT format the card when you start the phone, it will not be recognised by the system, but it is recognised in the recovery mode using terminal emulator.
I tried it, it works
Actually no, you do not need to unlock the bootloader, my sola has numerous roms on it, with a locked bootloader.
My motorola had a recovery also with a locked bootloader.
The only time unlocking the bootloader helps is,
A: CPU / GPU tweaks
B: (this should be A) Cyanogen roms
C: other start up tweaks that doesn't require you to run scripts on startup.
So it is (not) really needed to have an unlocked bootloader.

You're right,but I sad "easier"..
With unlocked bl,we can get cm and other roms..
For cwm(or temp cwm,twrp.. ) not needed,but it's better I think..
Pardon me for bad english.
