[Q] Any Edge users experiencing the "Flash always dimly lit" issue? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says, there seems to be an issue with some S6s where the flash diode is dimly illuminated at all times. (Even hours after powering off the device )
This thread was started in the regular S6 q&a and @kojaraty replied saying his wife's edge has this problem too.
I'm wondering if anyone else with an edge has noticed this issue. Anyone that has it, go into a dark room and check the flash diode
Picture:

I have edited my post btw, my S6 has this issue too which I noticed while I was laying in bed today. I believe all the S6 regular and edge had the same issue which I think it could be a software glitch.
My friend's S6 has this issue too.

Edge users please do me a favor and check if this is happening with your phone. :good:

You know there is plastic covering the flash when you take the phone out of the box right?

Yes. The flash diode is actually emitting a dim light which is why the camera can pick it up in a dark room.

nope not on my t mobile edge

An SES employee apparently said it's a known issue likely to be fixed with a sw update after the official release. Not sure if I believe that though given the strange nature of this issue.
At the very least some tmo/samsung reps have confirmed that it's known about internally.
It's hardly a big deal, more of just a slight annoyance with a shiny new phone

Same issue on my Edge SM-G9250.

The same with mine G925F.

I was starting to think it was specific to the S6 but I guess not

this is affecting random models from random carriers as well.

I did all display tests and it's not the common yellow screen bug.

Wow, this is just unbelievable. Screen issues, 3G/Wi-Fi issues, GPS issues.....the list just goes on and on. And yet Samsung is already working on Galaxy 3. Maybe they should have worked on this one a bit longer before releasing this problem ridden thing. Last time I ever buy a Samsung phone.

you hear more about the bad problems, because nobody makes a thread on this forum just to tell, that theit phone is working
i have none of those "problems" you listed above. every phone has such problems. no phone is perfect.
there is no need to tell, that you'll never buy a samsung device again(you probably will), just because you read on the forums, that some people(not that many) have problems with their phone.
OMG! Today, my Samsung Galaxy S2 whole screen turn yellowish. Extremely yellowish. After restart the phone, it back to normal again. Firmware or Hardware problem?

Fast vertical lines on screen wake up

people, has anyone of you noticed white vertical lines that appear for a fraction of a second when you power on the device? it happens right before lock screen appears... best could be seen in a dark... seems like there is a problem with screen initialization on a driver level...
Could someone check this issue?
Using Lightning ROM 1.5

i prefer to be more optimistic due to the fact that many others reported the same problem on different forum... xda is more reliable, so I'm trying to collect the opinions here as well
Mine has this, noticed it for the first time yesterday (hadn't seen any reports of this at that time).

don't worry, I think this effect is present on every piece of 9100. more or less obvious for users... it might be not vertical lines that people see but the quick white flash

What effect does this have on any other aspect of the phone, or is it literally only that fraction of a second that there is any apparent effect?

if it is really a problem of display controller low-level driver - it might cause some serious problems as time passes... total screen failure, for instance... as i remember from past cell phones - it was the first sign of upcoming screen death...
but i think that in our case - this is just a minor driver issue in screen initialization process... at least i believe so
I have this problem with the screen as well! and it's annoying to see those vertical lines whenever I wake up the screen.
sometime i can see the lines with "CRT Screen Off" mod, but without they dont appear
Try to do a backup in CW recovery and flash a stock rom.
It can be the CRT effect or any other custom rom issue.
It would be great to know if the problem is due to your custom rom or not.
Hey, sorry to bring this up again, but I'm having the same problem, and it's really bothering me. If there's any way of fixing it, please let me know, I just uploaded the stock ICS 4.0.3 for my device, and it started to show.
mine too has this
Mine also has this issue. only visible in the dark
yeah, same here. I thought i was the only one having this
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Noticed this straight away when I got my new phone and it was there before I flashed a custom anything
***Bezeke HOLO LPQ base running bits stuff from everywhere ***
I also have this issue
One large, white vertical line. Clearly visible in all lighting conditions
However sometimes (rarely) it doesn't do it.
I have compared this to a black galaxy s2 (mines white) which doesn't suffer from this issue. It actually seems to delay the screen on / unlock time
The black loads the lockscreen at almost the exact same time as the white displays the lines.
I've been putting off returning it under warranty as I can't do without it..
Its like a jolt of power that hits the screen
***Bezeke HOLO LPQ base running bits stuff from everywhere ***
yeah, i recently got a phone off someone, and it's been bothering me since, there's no way of fixing it? i hope it hasn't caused anyone trouble, i recently switched to iPhone to this phone and i'm absolutely loving it besides the white flash
hi
i have three galaxy i9100

If you mean the minute, almost "patterned" grey lines then yes. Every Galaxy S2 has theses.
But bright white, clearly visible line/s which delay the screen-on process.. No, not every Galaxy S2 has it.
Especially if they don't always appear
i don't think its an issue with the phone i had it running an old version of omega rom the latest 5.1 does'nt have that problem.

Dead Pixels on the screen

So after month of owning this phone (SD version), yesterday I noticed that there was green pixel on dark backround. After a while of looking at black picture with max brightness, I noticed several small red-blue-green dots all over the screen, which weren't visible on other backrounds. I have already sent it to repair centre (free screen replacement). I just wanted to ask, is it frequent problem with RN3 or I was just unlucky? Is there any side effects of replacing the screen?
I'm using this device for about 6 months now and i haven't seen even one dead pixel in my phone till now, but I haven't noticed even one dead pixel on the screen till now...
So, I guess you were unlucky and your device had this problem...

I have rn3 sd version.
and I noticed 3-4 dead pixels on the screen
it cannot be seen on regular usage. hardly can be noticed when lcd test (dark screen full brightness)
I think many rn3 phones have same problem. many users just have not noticed yet.
it's common and expected, for the price you won't get the best panel, i also have 2 stuck pixels, one green and one red
Yeah I got one too and maybe 2-3 more...but not visible in normal usage.
Happened after like 5-6 months.
hmm, it seems that many are having stuck pixels, mine just had too many and it's free screen replacement anyway, so Thanks for replies guys.

I couldn't spot any dead pixel on my phone....
I guess I'm the lucky one then:fingers-crossed:
Some of my friends have the same device and they also don't have any dead pixels...
Well, see if your replacement panel also have the same issue...
Edit: I don't think that's a kernel bug as many users including me are on Radon and none of them reported this issue...
I have a unusual red fingerprint that barely visible on the bottom part of my screen.
You can only see it on still black screens and you will have to look carefully to see it.
It is a comment problem to LCD screen my all phones have dead pixel except Redmi note 3

My phone has several blue and green patch, when I purchased never noticed it till 1 month. After that I got screen replacement when I visited service center, Now my phone creeks.. If grabbed hard its back panel creeks.
I don't blame, Its a cheap company and cheap phone. But performance is good.

Creaking is actually common on RN3. Althought mine didn't (well, I was using a silicon case) and I don't think screen replacement did that, unless service center did a bad job at it.

This.
Many tens of millions of Galaxy S7, S8 and S9 devices have been sold....a couple of threads posted on XDA with AOD burn in issues doesn't mean anything.
There really isn't an issue with burn in caused by AOD. There's no burn in issue at all.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're the exception to that rule. And having a one off or even two compared to the tens of million devices that are sold with zero burn in issues, should not be of a warning to any potential customers. The possibility of it happening is there but not anywhere close to a problem as it's being made out to be..
It's like the whole note 7 BS.. If you ask any random person about what they know happened with note 7s and they will tell you that majority of note 7s were blowing up and Samsung was forced to recall.. When in reality there was something like a total of 7 devices that actually had a legitimate issue caused by batteries and they voluntarily recalled all phones to avoid the very issue that they ended up in, which is people having a jaded view with their phones and thinking it will blow up..
The AOD burn in issue was really addressed a couple generations back when they started becoming standard where they would start having the AOD move around slightly, and ive noticed my s7e jumps all over the place now.. Also they pushed out updates so that the AOD was alot dimmer in most situations and even eliminated the brightness adjustment to the AOD on my s7e. After all of that, Samsungs put alot time to mitigate the burn in issues with not just the AOD but other situations with their screens.
And let's be honest with each other, having a 1 in a million case of screen burn in is hardly anything to even think about..
I totally agree with you mate.
I truly believe that my device was defective and is definitely not the norm.
It's just something people should be aware of that's all.
Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I also am worried about it to an extent, but more in the sense that I hope I dont have a defective unit, since there are safeguards put their by Samsung and really all OEMs using OLEDs, at least at this time, now they do.. Google had to up their software game to fix the pixel 2xl burn in issues, which after the pushed those updates, it seemed to mitigate the majority of issues..
And no matter what, OLEDs are susceptible to this issue and leaving the image on the screen, or even ones that are causing the same individual LEDs to stay on at all times, I think can be a guarantee to obtain screen burn in. But it's almost like the situations have to be just right to cause burn in, like max brightness, still images for extended periods and possibly even a software bug that's causing the provided safeguards to fail..
I can certainly see YouTube to cause burn in, among other apps as well, especially if you watch continuous hours of YouTube with that white background glaring.. Oh great, now I'm going to be stuck in the landscape life making sure I don't get burn in while watching vids.
6 months and I had properly burnt my S7e screen (satnav in car). A OLED screens burn, it's a fact of life.
My original T-Mobile S9+ had burn in 4 days in. Must have had a bad batch.

screen retention problem?

I'm thinking of buying note 9 pro global (joyeuse), but I've been hearing it has some problems. I don't have problem with software bugs, but some people said it uses Tianma panel which has bleeding and image retention problem.
If it is a gardware bug, it'll cause problems. Can anyone guide.

yes its a serious hardware fault, tianma panels have burn in issues + there is a WIFI related hardware issue as well, I made the mistake and bought the phone thinking these won't affect me and now I have to put up with a phone which loses wifi everytime it goes to sleep. SKIP THIS PHONE IF YOU CAN.

I don't know which version you have but all Global note 9s and indian note 9 pros have the wifi issue, numerous threads @ Mi community and even on xda there is a thread with many pages. About the screen issue just google "Xiaomi note 9s screen burn in" you will see many videos about this.
Most people who are saying they don't have the problem may not be checking their router logs, because the issue is hard to notice on 11.0.8 and above firmwares, the phone disconnects from the wifi but reconnects automatically after a few seconds so the end user does not know whats going on ..... unless he checks the router logs or uses whatsapp web with this phone, whatsapp web will actually disconnect from the phone after its wifi 'disconnects' during standby...it may take 10 minutes or 40 or an hour but it happens its a well documented issue even the Mi community Moderator for 9S confirmed this as a "documented wide spread problem" but has not been able to give a confirmation if/when it will be resolved his last response mentioned waiting for MIUI12.

I have the EU version. Look I had similar issue with my previous Note 5 and Note 8 but it was fixed by not using that router. I plugged a cheap router in my main router as access point and never had the issue again. I'm 99% sure it's some routers that don't work well with Redmi phones. And as India had millions of people a lot of them will be using the same routers. That is why I asked if you tested on a different type of router so we can confirm

and do u u have this screen persistance on your panel?
FYI: Tested my joyeuse, manfucatured Aug 2020, with a Tianma display. Using a checkered pattern, full brightness, for up to 20 min. or so. No ghosting/image retnetion whatsoever.
I bought a note 9s with tianma panel with no lightbleed at the edges. There is also no lightbleed at the selfie camera cutout but on a white background I notice a slight area of reduced brightness (not grey but a little bit not as white as the general panel color) at the bottom part of the cutout. It is very small and curves with the cutout shape and I also have to look from an angle to notice it.
If I'm to nitpick, if i put on a white background and set brightness really high, i can notice some areas of slightly less brightness at the left and right bottom extremes extending about 0.2mm from the curved part. These are so far from anything that no app has any content there so it doesn't bother me. I also have to look at it from an offset angle (about 100°). Who uses their phone looking at it from this extreme angle? Like i said, the display issue is nitpicking.
I can't say anything about wifi because I'm mostly on 4G. That's a worse issue than the screen but apparently it could also be eliminated by changing wifi routers.
I bought mine (6+128 GB) for $200 and compared to other phone brands, this is a lot of phone for $200 so I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. This os my first Xiaomi phone and I'm already a fan.
Sent from my Redmi Note 9S using XDA Labs
I use Redmi Note 9s 6/128 vatiant and it does have screen burn. Whenever i play cod for a couple hours some of the buttons still appear and will appear for a few hours. I also read alot of Manga and the edges of the screen would turn yellowish/orangey on gray shades. Still not fixed and been suffering for months already. It's less visible on white screen but very apparent on gray ones
