Just got a Galaxy S3 and the MHL cable I have is not working. I picked up this cable for my Note 3 which worked fine. Despite it saying S3 in the title of the product, it does nothing but charge my phone. I tried on stock, CM11 and Blekota Note 4 rom which people are confirming MHL to work on. I have an older MHL cable that I bought a while ago and that also does nothing. I'm hesitant to try and purchase a 3rd cable. Can anyone give some insight into what I can do to get this to work?
Try stock firmware, then different cable -must be 11 pin and designed for the s3 model you have.

I tried with stock too, didn't work. Can confirm its an 11 pin cable too. What can you tell me about the s3 models, is there different cables for different S3? I have the I9300 white.

Hi,
the MHL HDMI output is very important for me. Does someone know if the new XXLPQ Roms support MHL?
regards
Andre
I just tried with mine, first time kernel panicked, I had siyah b06 kernel flashed.
I then flashed the stock kernel, tried kernel didn't panic however my TV just gave the following output: unsupported signal.
So my guess is NO.
However this could be that I have a faulty MHL cable though.
Can anyone verify this ?
I got nothing on my tv. Original cable, charge function works just fine though. I'm running XWLP2-CL258785 [email protected] #3. I don't get it. I even tried it with 2.3.6, no result either. I'm pretty pissed.
I just want to hook it up to my tv and use a BT Mouse as a controller (mouse doesn't work properly eiter). Thinks this firmware is not so good as i thought.
I will try it with a friends phone (HTC Sensation XE) later this week just to be shure. If i don't get any image eiter maybe the cable is broken.
I doubt that your cable and mine are faulty what are the odds ?
Anyways let me know when you try on your friend's sensation.

Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

maybe the adapter does not work with the S3 after all.
Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here
Can you post up the link to the advert you bought it from?

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Thanks man - I might go to omega's stock-based rom and see if I can get any love with that. Cheers for the help everyone
Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible

If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
P.s has anyone managed to get netflix in 16.9 widescreen using the mhl adaptor on jelly bean?:crying:
It's the samsungs 1, that i bought from my carrier. And adapter is fine since my friend got it work with note 2 :/

Have you guys get this MHL feature enabled on AOKP roms?
I'm currently running Slimbean 4.2.2 and I have no MHL

You never will have it working.stock or bust!
I have a korean version of samsung galaxy s2 (SHW-M250S). I have it converted to i9100 and working flawlessly. Now I have seemed to develop a problem in usb port which keeps charging the phone even when the phone is not connected to the charger. I have cleaned the phone usb port and even tried to push in the pins. its working fine for now but I have a feeling I would have to change the usb port of the SHW-M250S soon. I want to know if the i9100 international version has the same usb charging port as the SHW-M250S? can anyone tell me this if they are sure? I cannot find parts for the SHW-M250S phone on ebay. all I see is parts for i9100. please help.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah,I think you can put a GT-I9100 part into the korean version.Only the model number differs, but it's the same phone.
Different partition lay out and something-like-nfc capable, or something.

i think i can't just swap parts from i9100 into the korean version. I saw the pictures of both parts and they have different quantity of chips on the board.
Hello,
I want to buy a new micro usb port to solder instead of the old one because I have charging problems, however I know the galaxy s3 has a different mhl adapter, but where exactly are the pins different? Because I don't know if a normal micro usb port will work on the he s3.
Thanks
Use the internet to find 'Samsung Galaxy S3 USB cable' should get some results for your phone but the USB shouldn't matter asking as its micro.

Thanks, so where exactly did Samsung change the USB? I remember that the galaxy s3 has 11 pins instead of 5 somewhere, so where exactly is this change if not on the micro usb port itself?
Thanks again
you won't fit anything but the official port in there

He is talking about the port not the cable. The part inside the phone.
OP, as suggested you will need to do a search and find an official Samsung USB port to put in your phone. Search on google and you can find tutorials on how to change and links to where to buy the replacement.
I have tried two different cables, every app on the market, thumb drives, powered harddrives, sd card adapter, and even a mouse and keyboard I cannot for the life of me get my phone to recognize any of them. I am on tranquil Rom with crpalmers latest kernel. I have also tried zorbos's kernel. Am I missing something stupidly simple?
I'm on ecliptic with crpalmers kernel, and its working fine for me. I think OTG compatibility is in the kernel, but the ROM has to be able to look to the kernel for it. Try a different ROM or kernel setup.

so I tried your setup and it did not work. I went and got a powered usb hub and tried it with that and it did not work. I plugged my otg cable into my buddys S3 and it worked immediately lol. maybe its just not meant for me
Might have a bum cable. I use a samsung cable I made into a otg and never have any issues. With 4.3 and cepalmers kernel. Also used tranquil with crpalmers and beastmode and they work flawless with the cable I converted. So problem might be with your cable.
StickMount??? It works for me... look it up in the play store.
I never had to use stickmount on my DNA.
Never had a problem here. I think there are Samsung specific otg cables just like there are Samsung mhl cables.
