Hi
I have At&t HTC One M7 with stock rom on it. Android version is 4.3. S-on. I am outside the US so I can't get the At&t OTA.
I tried to update by RUU. The one for 4.4 and the one for 5.0. It stops after 5%. I also tried by Zip on the device itself and it gives me error of 'invalid operation'.
Any one knows how to get this updates work?
Thanks!

You can try this:
Unlock your bootloader
Install TWRP custom recovery
GURU Reset 5.12.502.2
When exiting TWRP select Stock Recovery
Lock your bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Run the latest RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-att/general/capture-3-31-15-lollipop-ota-update-ruu-t3070978

I tried searching for this answer before I posted this but I was not successful at finding it. So.....
Is there anything that cannot be updated by the ROMs? Are there items that can only be updated by taking the latest OTA update? I am trying to figure out if I need to take this latest update to get the latest firmware, kernel, etc.
I am OK with waiting for the ROM updates to come out if they will update everything, too. If they can't, I might as well get these OTA updates to see if they fix some of my problems.
Thanks for the help.

Yes there are a lot of files that cant be updated with roms. The only way to get all of the new firmware is to run the ruu. Turge has figured out how to flash radios now without flashing the ruu so thats good. But thats not everything. I'd wait to run the ruu until the devs change their rom base to the new update. Otherwise no custom rom yet. You can root the stock update after installing, just not many goodies atm.
Thank you very much for your help.
When you say the only way to get the new firmware is to run the new RUU, does that mean running the RUU from at&t or one of the modified RUUs posted on here?
If it is the At&t one, the only way to get it to fully update is by going back to the stock 1.15 ROM, correct?
Yep I ran ruu and got it running stock but my 2nd x+ still running old one wit elegancia till roms get updated I don't mind unrooting updating and rooting takes 30 min tops just patiently waiting for a update hell if viper gets updated first ill rock that

The latest ruu for ATT to get the newest firmware is 1.19.502.1 http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_E...178_signed.exe

Correct, but I wasn't sure if you could update directly to that RUU from a custom ROM and get all the updates like hboot, firmware and radio. I was wondering if I needed to go from a custom ROM back to stock 1.15 and THEN do this 1.19 update to get everything updated properly.
If you update your phone to the latest RUU, you won't be able to installed a custom ROM until the devs update their ROM. You update, you stay stock for a moment. You still can ROOT the stock ROM.

Not exactly. You can upgrade with a RUU if your actual version is equal or lower. You can't downgrade your version unless your phone is S-OFF.
To flash the RUU
Reboot in fastboot mode
type at the prompt >fastboot oem lock
Rebooting
Keep your phone in FASTBOOT USB mode
Run the RUU installer on your computer.
This will FULLY WIPE the phone.

Doing this method, one could use the latest 1.19 directly from HTC and get everything updated? No need to do this method, install the older 1.15, and then do the 1.19 RUU update?

You can do one of two things to get the full update. One is to go back to a 1.15 stock ROM, flash the stock recovery and run the OTA. The other is to run the latest RUU from HTC (the one from the link posted above) after you've flashed the stock recovery and re-locked the bootloader (otherwise the RUU might not proceed). Bare in mind that running the RUU will wipe your phone to factory settings.
I started a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245955 about people's experiences updating and post-update. Once you decide to update feel free to share your experience there!
I have already updated. I went from elegancia. I locked the bootloader, rebooted to fastboot, and then ran the 1.15 stock RUU. After that, I ran the 1.19 update I downloaded from HTC. I was just trying to figure out if I would have went straight from elegancia to 1.19 if everything including radio, kernel, etc. would have updated properly since elegancia was on the phone and not stock version 1.15. I don't know what these RUUs look at before applying their updates.

I have a droid dna too. But i'm in vietnam. Same problem like you. I'm running 4.1 with sense 4+. Cannot update ota to sense 5. Droid dna cannot check update in global mode. But in vietnam, no cdma service for droid dna. I think there are 2 way to update it.
1. Find and run a ruu sense 5 for it
2. Unlock bootloader and flash a cook rom with sense 5

Search the DNA section here. There is the ota zips and the ruu.exe. it wouldn't take long to find them.

Should you have to be S-off for running this RUU?
Tried this file on a S-On, locked DNA and got a ROM failure. I`m on 2.07

Download again the rue and try again
I think the fastest way is
1. S-OFF your device and Unlock boot loader
2. Flash custom recovery
3. Install custom stock rom with bloatware or debloatware

You can try this but I cannot guarantee that this will work. but it has worked for me. first off go to about-software update, and their on the top right corner is a settings button where it says update over wifi connection and make sure that this box is checked. then take out the sim and then go to settings-mobile data-preferred network and change from gsm/umts to cdma/lte. now make sure that your phone is connected to a wifi connection. you will get a message saying no cdma connection was found. just hit okay and ignore it. then go to settings- apps- all- and find google services framework and then hit clear data then force stop. now go to settings- software update- check new. do NOT go to settings-about-software update-check new to check for updates because it did not work for me and kept telling me that their was no update. I do not know why but if its confusing to understand then make this note- if the check new option is under status then you are in the right place.

Same thing for me, then I read it says that in order to use this RUU, you must revert back to the stock 1.15 hboot and 1.15 Stock Recovery but when I use the RUU to get back I also get the IMAGE ERROR: 158.
I have been stuck for days now trying to get my HTC ONE on AT&T back to stock so I can upgrade to KitKat
I am at the point where I got the bootloader relocked and I'm trying to install the RUU zip. Everytime I try to install it I get an error saying signature failure. I thought I may have been using the incorrect RUU file and have tried several both zip files and exe files and no luck. (phone is at a black screen with the HTC logo going across it ) also I am unable to access CWM
I am running a stock 4.1.2 HTC sense 5.0 software number 1.26.502.12

Android version is correct I double checked. I will recheck the bootloader. Hopefully that is it :good:
I rechecked the bootloader and it was unlocked, not sure how it got unlocked again, but I relocked it. I ran the ROM upgrade and it went through with no problems. I ran rumrunner and it failed after the 2nd test and said device is not rooted, and the last exe file launches and throws up an error right away. I tried an OTA and it says no updates
I went back into the bootloader and it says relocked and the tamper is gone, so progress was made
I can get into the stock recovery mode. I select apply from phone storage ( where kitkat zip is located ) but then the phone reboots instead of giving me a menu to scroll through so I can select the KitKat zip file.
Guess it took a while but my phone finally went though an OTA successfully !! Thank You !!!!
Hello, I am wondering how can I manually install the update on my phone because at&t software update says there are no updates for my device when there currently is and I'm still on 4.4.2 trying to update to 5.0. I've tried using RUU but it's a complete mess and is always giving more errors everytime I fix one.
Is your phone on AT&T towers? You should get the 5.0.2 update if you are.

You won't get an update unless you are on AT&T towers. The best bet is to find the ota zips and put them to the correct place on the phone to manually update, or do an ruu with a signed ruu zip or exe. If you are s-on, the ruu must be signed and official, and the bootloader must be locked or relocked.

I agree with all of the above. AT&T specific "limitation" means you will only receive OTAs when using AT&T's network.
You can find all the ATT RUUs linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
RUU will wipe all data on the phone (so backup accordingly before RR, by means of your choice). Otherwise, RUU may be a better option than OTAs, since you will need to run the 4.4.3 and 5.0 RUUs in sequence. RUU is also a complete stock image, which tends to result in a "cleaner" install.
hey, ihave a htc one m7 on 4.2.2 android ice cold project rom and ive been trying to go back to stock htc sense rom but downgrade from stock 5.0.2 and I cant seem to do it, ive tried ota update zip files, stock odexed rom but nothing seems to work, I got the stock rom on but then the touch screen didn't work so had to go back to aicp. I also cant get s-off as ive got hboot 1.61 and cant afford to buy sunshine.
any help would be much appreciated thanks.
You need the RUU then. The reason touch won't work is because the firmware is not matched to the OS. This is a common HTC thing. You have to find the RUU that corresponds to your carrier or region as well as being the same or newer than the firmware you are on now since you are S-On. You must relock your bootloader to install the RUU while being S-On as well.

could you help me find then compatible RUU please? I don't know what one id use. I was hoping to downgrade from lollipop but I don't think ill be able to.
ive went back to the os that didn't work with touch and am going to do and ota update, but how would I get my device to allow ota updates again? do I have to put the recovery back to stock as well as relock bootloader or is there more to it?
You'll need fastboot to make sure you are getting the correct version. If you do not have it, get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 then boot to the bootloader and run this command:
fastboot getvar all
Post results but remove your IMEI and serial number.
You definitely can not downgrade while S-On. You won't need to worry about OTAs as the RUU will do everything for you. If you do want to enable OTAs after you get everything matched up, then yes, you would need to leave the system and the recovery stock.
would there be anyway for me to downgrade then? ive tried flashing other firmware and so far I might have got it, I just need to wait for my phone to charge till I know
You can flash an older rom, but a true downgrade with everything matched is not possible while being S-On.

How could I know without knowing which M7 you are using and what firmware is on it? I've already provided instructions for what was needed for additional info.
