Yeah the support page is showing off the update and its features :good:
I would link you but I don't have 10 posts under my belt. It's on the front page of Android Police if you wanna check it out.
The software version is LRX21V.N900VVRUEOB6
Anyone seen it yet? It 5.0? 5.0.1? If it's anything like the note 4 build, you'll be in for a treat!

Looks interesting, but cant lose root. touchwiz is already awful enough with root. on eclipse rom right now
Im still on rooted 4.4.2, have zero issues with my Note 3.. My question is will i have to Wipe, perhaps back to original to take the Lollipop update (my OTA is disabled, if i check software updates, it crashes the settings program), or can i just load it with Kies over the existing? I dont care about root really anymore, there is nothing it gives me that i really need..

Be sure that you absolutely don't care that you're losing root and more than likely CAN'T revert back, as we could with the earlier KK images. I'm also on a rooted 4.4.2 vzw note 3(rooted image) and unless a rooted image/root method pops up, I'll probably be content with just stickin it out on 4.4.2. Being rooted with Xposed is FARRR too important to me to get all excited and indiscriminately take the 5.0 update, at the expense of losing root and Xposed.
Having a nice, pretty interface with 5.0 < sticking with my rooted 4.4.2 and enjoying the benefits of a rooted device with Xposed and all that it offers.
I don't wanna lose root because I tether to my phone when I need to but I like the material design on the lollipop. Waiting for it to be rooted.

Well there in lies the question.. the only app i have on my phone that takes advantage of root is some bloat freezer, and a backup program.. other then that i havent used it (i rarely use those apps to begin with), but i am interested in the speed improvements the new UI/ executable ways of 5.0 bring to the device..
I used an s6 yesterday and the interface is definatley nicer.. We may never get root on 5.0... Decisions.. Decisions..
Some who is recieves this needs to pull it from there data folder folder...will be in FOTA folder..
Lets start BUILDING!! :highfive:
I don't think we will get it till 5/13-5/16 as the instructions show WiFi initiated 5/13-5/16.
edit: I was wrong, the boot with out Sim and then power up with Sim in and manual check for sw update started my 5.0 upgrade...
its so bright and white, how do I go back to black notification panel...
Excited to tinker with this, finally we have Lollipop
when I get a chance I will pull 4. 4. 4 system image from Sam mobile and inject root and flash it. then hopefully I can pull the OTA once it comes. I'll keep you guys updated. from RErik we need to make sure the binaries match to be able to pull this off. cross your fingers that Verizon didn't update the bootloader or anything else for that matter
People are getting it now according to reddit users : http://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote3/comments/32onsn/verizon_note_3_owners_its_your_turn_to_get/cqd9tlo
Downloading now. . Said I have 2 updates one is lollipop. Other isn't specified. Will screenshot soon
Let me check.. Yup it just moved. *blush* lol

I put my sim back in my note 3 and immediately got prompted to download. Installing the second update now.
Got my update, praying for someone to find root. Why did geohot have to go and work at google..
Here's an upload of the first download if anyone wants to take a look:

I downloaded that, just to have it.. i dont even know what i can do with it lol.. I crave some pop of loli.

I'm on 4.1.1 and used one click root & unlock on this forum.
This morning I woke up to an OTA but declined and asked to post pone till 5/13.

I have a feeling on the post pone date it will automatically update.

I'd also like to know about this. I used CASUAL to root my phone, and while I appreciate the features in the 4.1.2 update, I really don't want to lose root. Any insight into this matter would be appreciated.
Perhaps this is what you are looking for if your just worried about keeping root:

Updating won't 'brick' your phone (not sure if that is even possible with this phone without doing something incredibly drastic). Worst case you can always Odin back to stock - just back everything up first. Excellent guide here on how to do that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
But since you are unlocked I would look into flashing a custom ROM to get the full advantage of it (Jelly Beans or CleanRom are excellent). Tutorial on that is also in the link above.
Hope this helps.

I clicked yes on the update and now I get this message on boot and I can't get to the recovery menu:
“System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help.”
Things I did to my phone prior to this:
- rooted with Framapak
- CWM installed
- Encrypted the internal storage
I'll be praying to Odin tonight...
Use Root Explorer or equivalent and delete the SDM.apk in system/apps. This is the apk that checks for updates.
Oh and if you want to keep root it is never a good idea to accept an OTA update.

Odin can be picky after using casual also (try the rooted odin file if stock fails as well, thats what i had to do). You may need to remove the casual drivers as well for odin to recognize the phone, below is a link on that:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzghcV8HVVk
Also the new release of casual for the 4.1.2 update is set to be released tonight, does anyone know if he could just re-run and to get root and a custom recovery back?
Hopefully not needed.

Thankfully I was able to get it to boot into recovery mode eventually. Odin and Kies worked correctly to recognize the phone in download mode and I tried the root66 image with no luck. I'm downloading the VRALJB now to see if that works.
Update: I got my phone back to stock using the guide heric1 posted and the "alternate restore" image here. No bricks in my house.
Use this to update won't loose root...

Take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261478 created by developer beanstown106. Here you will find the latest update modified and placed into a flashable zip file through your custom recovery. If you flash one of those two files that he has, you can have the latest update, keep your root and unlocked bootloader, and be on a stock ROM.
There are two versions of the stock 4.1.2 ROM. The odex version doesn't allow for custom themes to be flash over the stock ROM, while the deodex version does allow for custom themes to be flashed over the stock ROM.
If you don't want 4.1.2 altogether, you can use Titanium Backup or My Backup Pro to freeze the SDM 1.0 file. A slightly more challenging method would be to use Root Explorer or something similar to it to go in and modify the name of the file.
---------- Post added at 10:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:07 AM ----------
For me I use the odex because I have no intention on using themes. My custom ROM and theming days have long passed. All I need is the ability create backups of my stock ROM and the ability to take advantage or root required applications such as Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro.

I ended up doing a nandroid back up aswell ass app and data backup and flashing beans. With the help from a admin over at note2forums. So that's my update and I'm digging 4.1.2
I also got something from here that made multi window fantastic and a clear notification bar as well as other goodies.

I just received an extended refurbished warranty replacement for a dead VZW Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 NC5. My old model was rooted, safestrapped, custom rommed, and had ota apps disabled. This new phone is also an NC5 (build date before June, so no problem rooting with TowelRoot). However, when I activated it and rooted it, the upgrade for NG6 was downloaded but not installed. I've rooted the phone and frozen the OTA apps, but I get an annoying popup every few minutes asking if I want to install the new upgrade now or later (clicking later produces a clock to set the time for an automatic upgrade). There is no option for not upgrading. I DON'T want the NG6 build, but the constant popup, which I have to clear with the Back key each time is a roaring PITA.
Anybody know how to disable the popup? The upgrade is already downloaded and I'd like to delete this as well as it is no doubt taking up #*%@^ unnecessary storage, but haven't found the right directory yet.
Any help will be appreciated.
Yout best bet would probably be to do a full wipe, such as an Odin, and restore the phone that way, then immediately root and freeze OTA updates before the phone has the chance to downloaf them.

Try this,

you'll still get the pop up so go ahead and hit update, it wont be able to find the update so it will bomb out, and not bother you again.
Thanks - worked for a while - then popup returned

I did try that. The popup went away for several days and then came back. There must be at least one root-level app I haven't disabled.
Thanks for the help, but I'm afraid I still need a bit more.

When I first got the phone, I disabled OTA, I ran the update - which failed, of course. It got rid of the popup, but I did not wipe the phone as I am a longtime Motorola Droid user and am not totally comfortable using Odin (This is my first Samsung and it's like going from Droid expert to Odin newbie). I have since restored nandroid and Titanium backups from the previous phone (this is a warranty refurb). The backups also included disabled OTA apps from my previous S4. Apparently, I missed one somewhere, as the behavior just recently returned. I'm going fishing on the root level again [sigh].
If anybody would be so kind as to list the exact .apks and their directories involved in OTA, I can make sure they are still disabled and run another failed update. This may be different from my Droids, since it is being referred to as a Samsung build update, and not an Android version update.
If anybody knows where the downloaded update is hiding, I can remove that as well.
Thanks in advance.
Im pretty sure the app u need to freeze is listed as SDM.. That should stop the update and popup.
Thanks also.

I always rename SDM.apk and FWUpgrade.apk, but, with Samsung (with the OTA already pushed, but not installed), I had to jump through several other hoops. To see what else you can do to solve the problem, check out:

i just made a post about the same problem. I renamed them. so we will see what happens
To delete the OTA zip use a file explorer with root privileges like "ES File Explorer" navigate to /data/fota and delete update.zip

Well - renaming SDM.apk and FWUpgrade.akp stopped the totally annoying push notification for google's new MJ7 build for the S4. But by renaming SDM.apk, my Verizon app visual voice mail stopped working. When I returned the SDM.apk file to it's original name, the visual voice mail works, but I get the annoying notification from google over and over.
I'm trying YouMail app for visual software and am waiting to hear from them about whether their app uses SDM.apk. If YouMail is like Verizon's visual voice mail and uses SDM.apk, then my next thought is to unroot the phone, let Google do their update to MJ7, then re-root. I'm wondering if anyone has done this.
My phone came with NG6. To root, I had to flash the NG5 stock kernal, then root using towelroot. Once rooted, I flashed the NG6 kernal. If I unroot and let google flash their new MJ7 kernal, will I be able to repeat the root process (flash NG5, the root, then flash MJ7)? If that route were possible, would I need to find a separate place to download the MJ7?
Is there any other way to stop google's annoying notificaton and pushing MJ7 at me? All help greatly appreciated.

My apology. I missed this link first time thru this thread. That link to a thread titled "[HOW TO] Disable OTA Update Notifications!!!!!!!!!!!!!" is pretty helpful. We'll see in a day or two if the notification and push attempt continues, but I'm pretty optimistic following the instructions in that thread will stop it.
I don't mean to beat a dead horse, as I'm sure it's been brought up. But every search I've done just brings up how to update to OC1 without losing root. All the way back to the original Motorola Droid, I've always rooted and added a custom recovery and ROM to every phone I've had. I was running Hyperdrive RLS20 and loved it. I've been using Hyperdrive since my Galaxy S3. Then I saw Hyperdrive RLS21 came out and decided I wanted to give it a shot. And although I've flashed over a few hundred ROMs no problem, this time really screwed my phone. I could only get into DL mode. I tried about 25 different ways until I had Kies fix it, which put it on 5.0.1. Can I revert down with Odin? Or is there anything I can do to get root and SU back. Any help would be much, MUCH appreciated
Nope, by taking the latest OTA (or in this case Kies) you've locked yourself into the latest version, for which there is currently no Root
That sucks. No way to use Odin in order to downgrade or anything? This is the first time since I've ever owned an android phone that I've been stuck without root

Don't lump me In with that crowd. I had no intention on going to 5.0.1. If you read my original post, I was upgrading to Hyperdrive KK21 from KK20 (and yes, I followed every single instruction to the T. My only guess is that the USB connection got messed up and only flashed a portion causing the problems) and it **** the bed mid-update. I couldn't get into SS recovery or even stock recovery, only DL mode. I spent 2 days without a working phone trying to flash every single Odin file that retained root and they all failed. So I used Kies to try to repair it and ended up ****ed on 5.0.1. The one solution I didn't want. I've NEVER had an android since the D1 that wasn't rooted running a custom ROM. Which is why I'm so desperately trying to get back to rooted. While 5.0.1 is actually a very nice OS, not having all the root options is killing me. And since its now 2 generations old, my hopes that a root exploit will be found, or that people even care enough to try to find one are extremely low. But, I sure hope I'm wrong, and that an exploit for one of the newer generations Galaxies will work on this one too. I'm OCD about having root and this is killing me

If you're ever in this situation again, give up on retaining your current root, flash back to true stock (with a re-partition .pit file as well), and re-root. If you had flashed the nc5 full-wipe with the .pit file and just restored root from a clean system, you would have been fine.

You cannot flash anything with flashfire. If you flash that tar, you WILL brick.

You can't downgrade from OC1.
Downgrade isn't a root issue, it is a bootloader issue. Unless the bootloader gets unlocked, we're stuck on OC1
kingroot does work
I had done the dumb thing and was impatient and did the oc1 update to later find out you can not downgrade and im on Verizon Samsung galaxy s4 (sch-i545) which even on kit kat is very limited to rooting it.. but on a whim I seen a post about king root and it mentioned that and I did see this myself but it will say not supported like it did on mine. but I figured what the hell.. whats the worst that could happen... well im rooted now and only tried because I had seen others make that comment.. well kingroot works for s4 Verizon with locked bootloader.. no need to downgrade from oc1.. just get the app and click... took less than 10 mins if I rememner right.. and I have had no pronlems in 3 days.. it oddly even fixed some of the bugs I was having with oc1 like incoming calls not ringing

You have root. But you have a much lower chance of getting an unlocked Bootloader than anyone on NC5/NK1/NK4. They have root, module loading, and a potential for kexec to run custom kernels.
Don't upgrade to OC1 via OTA if you haven't already everyone! Use Muniz_ri's keeproot upgrade method!

I'm downloading now. I honestly found that I don't really need root. I have the 4.4.4 firmware saved so assume I can go back to 4.4.4 if I want later. I'm going to grab 5.0 before it loads as well.

Yeah, haven't really found anything nagging that I need root for, either.
5.0.1 is a nice improvement. . Seems to run smoothly with better battery life. Be prepared to completely start fresh as you will basically be installing the new 5.0.1 OS in place of the 4.4.4. Both my phone as well as my wife's required me to run the recovery feature during the upgrade process [deleting all but my ext. SD card].
Yes! Finally! Installed and doing well !!
Any way to force the Software Update? Guess I'm not one of the ones who are eligible to download it as of yet.. just got the first preliminary software update

Do you know if we can revert back to Kitkat?

Correct, I even tried the updated 4.1 version from the Xperia board and it was a no go.
I would assume we could downgrade via odin if you have the old firmware saved or downloaded, but I haven't tried,

I can also confirm KingRoot doesn't work. I tried the 4.5 version with no luck. :crying:
I will download the kitkat firmware and see if I can revert.
I'll keep you posted.
****ing unusable.
Snapchat freezes *THE ENTIRE PHONE* all while making it unbearably hot to touch.
Swiftkey hangs and has to be force closed.

Im also curious to know if you can flash back to an earlier firmware. If you can go back to ANL1 OR AOC1, that would be awesome. Im getting mine in about 2 weeks, so this is a must-know.
I have been running 5.0.1 since this post went up. Phone has been running terrible. Guess the whole memory leak issues with lollipop is just a thing across the board. Everything takes forever to happen, and I have to restart a LOT.
Let it be noted I just updated to 5.0.1 without a factory reset. I might do a reset this weekend and see if it performs better starting from scratch on 5.0.1, instead of running previous apps on new OS.
I have all three available firmwares for the VZW Edge. I can upload them to my server tonight. Would be faster downloading then trying to fight SamMobile for them. Let me know if that would help anyone here.
it'd hep me greatly. after waiting months for lollipop for months, it arrives with a gigantic letdown. overheating, horrible battery life, lag and force crashes/apps freezing. virtually none of these problems before lollipop came about. going to back things up with Helium first, then do a factory reset and see if that improves anything before i try to see about reverting back to lollipop or just using my note 4 instead.
I get it fixed. Hang on.
Link works but site wants username and password for access
Links fixed. Sorry about that.

Has anyone had any luck downgrading? I want to go back to KitKat, but can't seem to flash AOC2 with Odin.
I was able to accomplish a Full Root on the latest OTA update on the phone.
Previously I was running Stock 4.4.4 KitKat with SuperSu and had issues with the OTA, since I had removed Apps.
I installed the Stock 4.4.4 ftf to the phone using the flashtool.
Then was successful in receiving the Prompt to update.
After Update, I installed. "Kingroot" for android. just google it. NOT KINGOROOT or any other.
After running kingroot, King User was installed.
In my experience, no other root method will achieve full root. I was not happy with using Kinguser, since i was a Supersu fan. But anytime I successfully removed kinguser, to swap for Supersu, I had lost partial root access, and could not uninstall apps. I could only Freeze.
I also tried Superuser, but only kinguser allowed me to fully uninstall bloatware, and other apps from the phone.
Just thought I would share.
Thanks, Iambedook. Every experience helps. Kingoroot got me into trouble once before in the past.
Can you flash back to 4.4 from 5.1.1?

I'd love to try this, but I'm kinda unwilling/aprehensious to take the chance with rooting apps. Can you confirm that you can use flashtool to revert back to 4.4? I just know Verizon would block such a thing in an update, they can be jerks. (like the moto razr maxx hd) Any insight is appreciated.

Yes, you can revert back to 4.4.4 through Flashtool. Doing so though, you will not have Advanced Calling or the refreshing Lollipop UI. Also, unless you do something about it, you will be promptly reminded all the time to update to 5.1.1.

Giga,
If I use this method to root 5.1.1., can I install dual recovery and Camera 2 and the FM tuner app? I'd also like the updated flashlight you put together but don't see that as a separate install. Should I wait or go ahead with this method for root?
Thanks, Pat

You may root, but I would advise against anything else. the Z5 Camera is most likely not compatible for our phones on 5.1.1, and neither is the FM Tuner. It's a whole lot I can't touch base on yet.

I was able to flash back to 4.4.4 after i messed things up, but after going back to 4.4.4 i am struggling to get back to 5.1.1. The updates are not appearing, stating I am at the latest version.
I would also like a confirm if this. Because I'm sitting around and waiting for a rooted 5.1.1 copy for the phone. Im on 5.0.2 right now and all is working good but still waiting. Thanks all.
I'm going to see if I can root after upgrading to 5.1.1, but I have the stock firmware just incase.
Just uploaded a rooted twrp backup with real superuser ++++much more

Just an FYI, after I needed to revert to 4.4.4. I was struggling to receive updates to get back to 5.1.1. I had to use the Flashtool, 3-5 times to get the correct update prompts to appear. If anyone else had similar issues when reverting back, let me know, but re flashing repeatedly worked for me.

Just scroll down to the z3v dev section.
I was actually able to flash the stock ftf coming 5.0.2. I had to flash it with default options the first time with it failing. I then found that I have to basically flash noting to clear the error on the phone by checking everything in exclude and the other exclude box where it shows its not displaying any files in the middle of the window.
Once that went through, I was able to upgrade from stock to .44 and then the the two updates for 5.1.1. After all that I reset to factory again to test on rooting the phone. I was too, able to obtain root with King Root. I was able to install zxrecovery and xposed with no problems. I'm actually used to King Root as I had to use it on the Verizon branded 7" tablet that didn't have any other possible methods previously. I also found that Busybox was slightly out of date (difference of 2.0) and installed to /sbin which wasn't too big of an issue.
Beyond that my phone seems to get pretty warm and typically complains about not charging even on a 2 Amp charger.
Can you tell me how you avhieved root because i want it but i can't revert to kitkat for some reason (flashtool won't recognise the update file) and I'm on lollipop. I've tried kingroot(app version) and it didn't work, tried reverting didn't work and tried all the framaroot, towelroot and such apps but none worked. I want working root, xposed and twrp. I can't find any way to do it please help.

Try King root again. I used their apk on the phone. It rebooted once at 30%, but when I got back in the app after the reboot, it successfully rooted the device.

Thats why then. This is only for the Z3v the Verizon variant.
Hi there,
New to the forum. After several hours of reading and searching, I became bewildered enough to decide to register and post .
This thread looked promising. I'm currently on rooted 4.4.4 with this phone. I also have a custom recovery installed. Im trying to get to 5.1.1. As of right now, I assume my only option is to wait for a 5.1.1 ftf so that I can update, because the OTA updates won't work (phone reboots into the custom recovery and the update is interrupted).
Is there an easier way to get the OTA? Or am I stuck waiting for an ftf?
To be clear, my goal is to be on 5.1.1 with root. But at this point I don't think I can get to 5.1.1 at all.
