So it just stopped working today. Not sure if hardware or software related.
The only recent software issues I've had was my phone started random freezing on the latest Cyanide update so I restored back to my last backup which was v7.5.
Any suggestions?

Not that I'm aware of, but my kids have recently reclaimed it, so it's possible.

I'm not aware of power button failure being firmware related. It's most likely failed hardware. I've recently had a power button failure on one of my phones. It's a mechanical switch which is subject to wearing out. But if you really want to check, flash back to stock and see what happens try to enter download mode or recovery. If unable to do that, then it's hardware.
Options are get it replaced, about $40 plus shipping, or install gravity screen and something like power menu.

Thanks I'll try those apps out. I found a switch in the Cyanide mods to use Vol buttons to wake. I just need a way to access the expanded reboot options.

My power button is acting like its being pushed 2x every time i hit it. I turn my screen on and it turns it off. Is this a known issue? Lets hope not a hardware failure because of 1.5.

This happens to me as well. I don't think it's software, as it happens in recovery as well. I've accidentally formatted as a result.
Same. Not the format but came close to flashing a mod ghastly isn't supported by the phone. ****ty button design if you ask me. Volume rocker is a ***** to use. And the power is too sensitive and finicky
Hi all,
I have the same issue also. Anybody already resolved this issue? Thnx!
the og evo's power button and rockers were perfect. Pretty amazing that they made both worse for the 3d. That power button sometimes makes me want to switch phones. Awful. How that made it out of testing I have no idea.
Seems to have been a software problem. I get this problem only on certain tons.

Frequently when using my phone starts acting like the back button is being continously pressed. Eg when in browser it keeps going back to previous pages or when on sat nav it keeps coming up with a message 'are you sure you want to cancel'.
I've got white version unbranded sim free and I've had this problem since I got it but starting to get annoying now.

Try doing a backup and change your ROM to check whether or not it's a software issue { I kinda doubt that }. If not, then you're going to have to get a replacement, afaik.
Hi that did help, it happens less frequent now but it still automatically presses the back and sometimes the options button simultaneously. I've flashed a few roms but the problem doesn't go away. Shall I return the phone despite the fault being intermittent?

I recently purchased a Motorola Atrix 4G, its my first android phone and its been working well for a while. My fingerprint sensor stopped working after about 3 months of use. it first started taking long to recognize my print and now it just doesnt read. i cant even install a new fingerprint profile coz the sensor just wont read. I hope someone can help me fix this, but remember im still fairly new to the droid world so please run me thru step by step on how to resolve this. Im using Gingerbread v2.3.6.
One other thing, the phone hangs sometimes and restarts itself, anyone know a solution to this too?
Backup your personal data, apps, etc. and make a factory reset from recovery. Solves such problems mostly.

Like i said im fairly new to android. How do i back up my data and all. I knw thia sounds like a dumb question but some guidance would be helpfull.

I would recommend titanium backup for apps, sms backup+ for sms & call log. You can use your google account for contact list backup & recovery.
You can get to the recovery menu by holding power & volume down buttons together during phone's startup.

I need to root my device in order to run titanium backup. Whats rooting & how do i go about it?

It's pretty easy, you should search & read a little in the forums There is also a wiki page for Atrix.

Mine did the same thing. Had to get a replacement from eBay, cost a bit under 20$. Atrix is really easy to dismantle, iFixit have a detailed guide.

I managed to get another app to back up. I did the factory reset in settings but the fingerprint sensor still isn't reading. Or was i supposed to reset it when starting up the phone? Coz when i start up my phone & hold the power & vol down button it says fast boot & when i press the vol up button it says starting fast boot & gets stuck @ that. Suggestions?
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
Hold power & volume down buttons together until you see that phrase. Press volume down button again till you see the recovery, then press volume up to enter into recovery. That's it.

If you have an International Atrix , you can try flashing Full Firmware Froyo in RSD, and then flashing Gingerbread 2.3.6
It will fix everything. But if you are using an ATT Atrix, you will hardbrick.
The one thing you can do now is a Factory reset.
Greetings,
Try a few other GB ROMs, if the problem persists you may have a faulty finger print reader!!

Many many other threads exist about this already.
Yes, you can buy online. Moderately easy, depending on your level of experience. Some gotchas exist.
As per title, I did an upgrade via the phone (OTA) to the latest that Optus allow here in Oz, 4.4.2. Everything went according to plan, only thing being I didn't wipe (partly cause there wasn't a glaring option and I was in a hurry)
My issue, i can launch the camera, but as soon as i press the on screen shutter button all the other software keys and icons disappear and it appears to be stuck. You can press the power button and darken the screen then press the power button to get the screen saver, swipe away and get the back, home and recent buttons, as well as the other camera buttons.
I've loaded another camera app, but this behaves the same way, only when you wake it back up after putting it to sleep, it takes a couple of snaps...
I'm guessing it may be something to do with where my camera defaulted to send the pictures (SD card) and how Google don't encourage the external SD card these days...
Any one with similar issues?
BTW, it's not urgent - i'll just flash it again, or unlock and root again, or wipe it and put linux proper on it... just curious to know if other folk on here have had similar issues...
I guess i should debug properly and maybe let people know, but if no one else has issues, then it's probably bad DNA lurking in the darkest recesses from previous fiddling - but still odd, cause i went from stock to stock this time...

It's a known android bug present in all 4.4.2 roms. There's an update in the pipeline apparently.

The exactly same thing to me, and use front camera is working fine.
To solve this problem, first, use Flash tool install 681 HongKong TFT,then change to Sony PC Companion, check for new firmware, after Sony PC Companion finish the phone update,
Everything working fine.
I have exactly the same problem with my c6833. I don't have the energy to flash another rom. The camera pretty much stunk anyway. I use my Nokia 925 to take pics even sans a Sim card.

^^ I'm guessing you all didn't wipe? Flashing full rom without wipe 'should' (eg did for me) fix this
Btw.. There are ext sd write fixes for 4.4.2 and I now save pics there (but must be rooted)

Just wondering if anybody has experienced this yet and has had to exchange their phone? If so, was it painless to replace? My wife just got the message on hers and we will have to exchange it. Also, mine has not had the issue yet and was wondering if anyone knows how to tell if the phone is one of the ill-fated, that way both of our phones could be exchanged at once if it is? Supposedly, people will just randomly get the message after a few days of use, so I don't know if there is any way to really tell.

The only time I got that message was on my Galaxy S4, which I was running my own kernel and some hybrid between MDL and MF3 firmware. It really jacked things up when I went to use the slow-motion feature on the camera, including usually just giving me that error message.
From the sounds of it, something is borked badly. If you haven't rooted (sounds like you haven't), I would recommend replacing hers under warranty just to be safe. If you have already rooted, might as well a return-to-stock Odin flash.
If still questioning whether anyone else has had the same issues with their Galaxy S5's .... I haven't seen any other reports of this, but I haven't been searching for it either. I would keep close eyes on the other variants' forums.

Samsung has come out and said its a known issue. They said replacing it should be streamlined, just wondering if it really is.
I got it on my stock unrooted s5.. I had it happen to me several times w the s4 but I would clear data and cache on camera app and it would work. When it happened on my s5 it wouldmt work camera still failed.. I rebooted and it works ever since....I don't know what it means but my phone is running pretty darn good

That's cool that a reboot fixed yours. From everything I read, they said that there is nothing you can do to fix it, and that it is a hardware issue with corrupted memory.

Get this on my Edge 7 which is using an SD card to store photos. It seems to kick when the phone is restarted for any reason. The fix is to force stop the camera app, clear data and cache, and then restart in a special mode which enables you to wipe the data cache. Samsung give instructions for this: "Power off the smartphone, then hold and press the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons at the same time. Let go of all the buttons and wait for the Android system recovery screen to show up. Highlight Wipe Cache partition using Volume down key and press the Power key to select the option." Hopefully, as it's obviously a software bug, Samsung will issue a fix.
