Question about KNOX - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I understand that rooting trips it, but if you flash back a stock firmware, does that untrip it? or is it forever tripped?

tripped for good

It won't get tripped, I have disabled Knox services on mine and still KNOX counter is 0x0

Didn't somebody from the note 3 or 4 forum successfully reset Knox??

Root without tripping Knox

Hello I just wanted everyone to know that I found a root program for our SM-G900T on Android 4.4.2 it says its for Verizon Wireless version but I have been using this for a few months now without any problems. The program is called Towelroot and can be found at https://towelroot.com/

I am sure you are right as my friend who is on the Verizon Wireless, and he updated his phone and he lost his root, I will upload a screen shot of my version.
but if you really want to root without tripping knox you can downgrade your firmware to any rom prior to the June update then root with towel root and now you can upgrade with mobile odin to any later roms while keeping root during the mobile odin flash.
however you can't have any custom recovery without tripping knox.

^^ What he said.
The bootloader is not locked. You can downgrade to any stock firmware and flash whatever stock firmware you want. Anything that NOT stock will trip your knox counter warranty status.
I rooted and flat-out deleted all knox apps in the system folder. I have no idea if that tripped my knox counter, I am figuring my knox counter was tripped because I went ahead and flashed TWRP recovery. Removing the Knox apps in /system/app and /system/priv-app are no big deal.

so flash a firmware <june 2014 with odin, root with towel root, then flash newest with odin?
which firmwares are <june 2014?
When you start the mobile odin it specifically says using mobile odin on this divice will trip the knox counter there is no recovery from this. lol so downloaded the ne6 rom flashed with odin and root with towel root. all good now

What'd you use to flash to a earlier stock firmware? Flashify or Flashboot?

Probably talking about the PingPong Tool, link here : http://www.xda-developers.com/pingpong-tool-roots-your-galaxy-s6-without-tripping-knox/
CAUTION : This is not available yet for the S6 EDGE. Only for the standard s6...
There is support for the S6 Edge. I have a Verizon S6 Edge that I rooted this morning with PingPong.

So will it void warranty ?
And what about otas?
OTA will only work after root is removed, which can be done by flashing a stock FW via odin (there's a simpler way as well, I think - flashing certain partitions only).
Knox bit is not set, thus warranty is NOT void.
Cheers.
Will Flashing via Odin erase the data? or not always??
Also, I think unrooting can be done also via Smart Switch isn't it? (again, what about the data in that case?)

There is a bit on the processor (using eFuse tech) that can be permanently set by the firmware. Samsung uses this bit for it's Knox tech. Knox is used for security for business apps and payments perhaps. If you flash a custom recovery, Knox bit is set forever and will not work. This means your warranty is over too. You can tell if your Knox warranty void bit is set in download mode.
This Pingpong root works without tripping the Knox, so warranty is still there

Root Method for FOL1 Knox 0x0

I was curious if there was root method for 5.1.1 (FOL1) that doesn't void Knox
Not at the moment.

No, but it's hilariously easy to get Samsung to honor a warranty on a device with a tripped Knox flag, if that's what you're worried about

Does Flashing Official Firmware Trip Knox?

Hi All
I have a question for you. I have an S6 Edge SM-G925I, unrooted with Knox untripped. I want to upgrade to Marshmellow and am considering flashing it with an official Android 6 ROM.
If I do this (using Odin), will this trip knox?
I've searched on the forum and someone has asked the same question (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/flashing-stock-unbranded-firmware-t3257477) but the respondant didn't specify whether Knox would be tripped, only that the warranty would still be valid.
Thanks in advance

They are synonyms.
Your warranty is void if you trip knox. If you trip knox your warranty is void.
Please give @Uzair40 credit for this.
Have fun.

Nope. I doubt that there will ever be. The best thing we can hope for is root with knox intact
