I have S6 edge on Rogers network G925W8, and I was trying to root it using chainfire's g925f, midway process My Phone got disconnected from odin and IDK why, now screen stuck and saying "Error occured while updating. Use the Emergency recovery function on smart switch. But the thing is my smart switch app can't detect my phone anymore, it says Unsupported Device. I even try to use kies and kies 3 but they are looking for recovery code, I don't even know where to get that, kies and smart switch didn't give me any code, I even tried software update and initialization, and it's looking for a S/N but I don't know what's the serial number of my phone, I can only see IMEI on box and my receipt. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Problem solved. I just borrow another USB cord, it's just weird all those 3 that I used was directly from my samsung phone package before.. Thanks for the help guys.
I have the same issue. But in my case I hear the USB sound when I plug in and plug out the USB cable, but the Smart Switch does not recognize my device. :/
Dear @rafaelpinaf
1) is it still the same after restarting your PC and changing USB Ports?
2)kindly check in device manger if there is "unknown devices", Kindly post screen shot (with your device attached to the PC).

Dear all
I read that in order to root my SGS2 I9100 I need to make Kies 2.0 work with my phone. I have never downloaded Kies on my pc (Win7 64bit), so I went on the samsung website and installed the correct Kies version for my phone.
After installation I opened Kies 2.0 on my pc, then connected my phone via USB, however my phone seems not to respond to the usb, other than that it went on charging. Also in Kies under 'Connected devices' it still says "Please connect a device".
Other things that I tried:
rebooting,
troubleshooting connect error under Kies,
reinstalling and rebooting, Applications>Development>USB debugging On/Off,
Wireless and network>USB utilities>USB mass storage
Nothings seems to work. It's like when I connect the phone to my pc via USB, my pc doesn't recognize it as any device, I don't even see a 'New usb device connected' or anything, it's also not listed under device manager. And my phone sees my pc only as a power source to charge...
Some other information:
- I have never flashed or rooted my phone
- I forgot which android version my phone had when I bought it (i think 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 but not sure), but I have updated it once via Settings>About phone>software update. It is now version 2.3.5
Has someone encountered the same problem like above? What can I do?
I probably missed something, someone please enlighten me
Try to reinstall kies and then download and try if odin detects your phone
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Use the Samsung cable .
jje
I think it's a problem with a USB cable too
And make sure you are plugged directly into a mainboard USB port, and not using a hub, or keyboard pass through or anything like that.

Not possible imho without pc, uninstall and reinstall Kies or the usb drivers for connection. Disable usb debugging.
Oh ok, bugger. And I've tried doing that, doesn't seem to work.
The phone doesn't even come up that it's plugged in. Nothing.
search in the development section
there was a method to root ics without flashing anything from pc

Is the S2 already running ICS firmware? If so you can easily root using the method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Just put the two linked files on your internal sd (either transfer then via bluetooth or directly download from your phone through the browser) and follow the instructions, literally a 2 minute job.
Yeah seen that, but it's not ICS

My galaxy Nexus connects up fine, just not her Galaxy S 2 yet it will charge fine. Dunno why.
EDIT: I take that back, left it plugged in and now it's making weird noises and sayings installing device driver software.
Sorry somebody else had posted my way of doing it
Just to eliminate another option have you tried cleaning the USB port on the phone, I have seen quite a few posts here and there saying that it has helped
dj_sploits said:
If you are on a stock ICS ROM then you could always get the files for CF-Root. You pop them on your SD card and then you root your device from the phone itself. After that you could send the custom roms over to the SD card and install them that way? No PC needed
I'm sure this way works but if not hopefully somebody will correct me

Not possible, you have no cwm to flash it with, sammy`s 3rd recovery doesn`t allow flashing custom software. You need to have cwm.
---------- Post added at 09:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 AM ----------
You could try another usb port
Now WTF.
I rooted it, used Rom Manager to flash CWM and it's still the stock one.
Why isn't my phone this ***** hard.

Why are u using rom manager, it causes problems with sammy based roms. Turn off the phone, press volume up + menu +power buttom at the same time, you should get in cwm. Don`t use rom manager!
Did you try to connect on another pc? Or at least on another usb port? Windows should at least recognise that a new hardware has been plugged in
I am trying to root my SGS3 international via Odin. The problem is that when I connect it to the computer in download mode, nothing happens. The device is not detected and the drivers are not being intalled. Worst of all ID : Com does not turn blue/yellow and the device is not added to Kies.
I have installed Kies, separate driver packs, I have tried different cables, different usb ports (on and off the mainboard of the PC), I have googled the problem for hours and still cannot figure it out.
Any advice?

You might have the same issue as I had.. I flashed a new firmware via Mobile Odin Pro.
Drivers shoudnt be installed when phone is in download mode but when its connected to the computer.. Before or after KIES is installed.
Did it work? Does anything happen at all?

Thank you for your reply.
I thought of that myself. But in order for me to use Mobile Odin Pro, I nedd to get root and in order to get root, I need to use Odin to flash the root files.
Nothing happens at all when the phone is connected to the computer in download mode. If the phone is booted in android, the drivers begin to install and Odin sees the phone (needless to say, I cannot flash while in Android mode). When I reboot in download mode, nothing happens.
have you made sure kies isn't running in the background? You need to kill all kies processes before using Odin or it may interrupt your flash. Aside from that you could uninstall kies and drivers and just try inhaling the drivers on their own? Which Windows version are you using? Xp can be problematic
Any idea whatsoever would be welcome

Hi,
It happened with me too, and there is nothing wrong with the device, its fine.
My friend told me this,
update your Kies software to the latest version, then close the Kies. i mean the kies application should not be running.
Then connect the device and wait for sometime, till the message appears -- MTP connected.
Then open the Kies application, and let the Kies to identify the device.
If it says some error, like device not recognized, then there is an option to debug the connectivity.
Try that option too.
It'll connect surely, but you should be patient.
I think, its the problem with Kies software. I use it only to update the Android firmware. But now, I'm on Custom ROM, so this Kies is no more required for me.
Regards,
Hereticnine.

Correct. Even without Samsung USB drivers installed your PC (I guess running Windows) should show a reaction. At least the PC should report an unknown device.
Maybe you should try installing the drivers manually? Not sure if it's gonna help but might as well try, right?
If that doesn't work either maybe you should try contacting the one you got the phone from. Maybe there's something wrong with the particular device.

If Odin recognizes the Note II with the same USB cable etc., there has to be something wrong with the SIII I guess?
Usually you just have to make sure that (1) Kies is not running, (2) you have the drivers installed and (3) you are in download mode as per the guides.
What operating system are you on? If Windows 8 you might want to have a look here
windows 8 x86

JJEgan asked about your phone buddy! not about the names of phones you own!
a couple of days of searching and this is the closest i get to my issue but still no where near a resolution
OTA update of Resurrection ROM went bad, lost everything (it happened at 3% battery completely without my consent and knowledge) I just found my phone stuck on failed encryption message and crap... no backup!!!
I went ahead and deleted everything, cache, system, dalvik... Flashed RR once more to find phone's working and all but that's not acceptable because I just can't get Odin to connect no matter what computer I used and every possible usb port I can access...
Drivers are updated and working because any other mode than download will have the GT-I9300 detected.
so what gives? well, all my readings and forum scouring have lead me to believe that it's a bootloader issue as (if I'm not mistaken) download mode gets loaded from there.
So now, logical action is to try to flash an original bootloader from an original firmware (latest or not) to see if that fixes the problem.
Any ideas?

Forgot to ask, would it be possible, obviously since I can't do that through Odin, to modify a recovery.zip (with META-INF folder and recovery.img) by removing the recovery image and replacing it with the sboot.bin from an original firmware ?
---------- Post added at 04:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:13 PM ----------
I ask this because that's how i managed to flash TWRP recovery through CWM, not sure i'd take a chance and flash bootloader this way
