[Q] Bluetooth internet tethering - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a samsung edge from tmobile and i noticed that they removed the bluetooth tethering option from their settings, i used this on my old phone to connect to my command unit in the mercedes to acess the web apps. Has anyone else found a solution or app alternative for this?

I still have the option on my S6. Just go into settings and from there you can find it.

[Q] Status of Wifi tethering

I'm on the verge of buying an archos 70 8GB IT, but I need a critical question answered first.
I'm planning on using this on my car, and would need to grab internet from my phone. I have an ATT captivate running a custom froyo rom. Now, there is an function on my phone to start a mobile AP through wifi (I believe it is the standard froyo feature and not some third party add-on).
Does this wifi hotspot not work with the archos? This would be a major dealbreaker as bluetooth is out of the question due to having to use a GPS to bluetooth adapter.
I've read a couple of forums up and down and no one seems to have answered this question completely. It seems that everyone has come to the conclusion that android does not have support for ad-hoc networks. I guess my questions lies more along the lines of whether the froyo mobile ap is an adhoc network.
Thanks.
You may remove your connection.
Re-connect it with power save disabled
it may OK
I am using a ZTE Blade/San Francisco with a custom Froyo rom and I can wireless tether my Archos 70IT to my wireless hotspot.
I have a rooted HTC Incredible with stock froyo, and tether my A70 using Wireless Tether from the market. Works great. So does my bluetooth gps, by the way.
Not that this should change your plans, but the fact that you need Bluetooth for GPS doesn't necessarily eliminate using Bluetooth for tethering simultaneously.
I've done exactly that with a Blackberry Tour (for tethering) and a cheap-when-I-bought-it TomTom Bluetooth external GPS unit. I used this configuration to get Google Navigation working. FWIW, doing this actually drove me to get CoPilot, as I didn't want to be tethered all the time to do GPS navigation.

That's interesting, I was under the impression that you could only have one device paired at one time. This is good news as I was hoping to perhaps write a program that would allow me to use the archos as a bluetooth headset (to receive calls while in the car), but since I would already have been using it for GPS, I didn't think I could do that.
Regarding my original question, it appears the the froyo mobile AP feature does work in infrastructure mode, I made a hotspot and my friend's nexus one connected to it fine.
Thanks.
I tried to tether to my HTC HD2 with WM 6.5.3, but no success. WiFi hotspot is ad-hoc, Bluetooth and USB tethering simply doesn't work. I'm at a deadlock... Any ideas?
Doesn't the HD2 run android as well? You could switch to that.

I´m also in trouble with mobile 6.5 on Omnia i8000 and archos 101. No tethering via BT or USB. Seems to be a mobile 6.5 problem.
I tethered my archos via BT to an SE t630 without any problem.
But I need it for my maindevice Omnia ...

Could you link to an .APK file for download? On my rooted myTouch Slide with CM6, it just doesn't show up in the market.
I just got my A70 IT 250 gb, I am not able to use Wifi Tether from my Epic 4G. Rooted with Froyo.
any help will be greatly appreciated..
Using the Mobile AP option is the settings menu? Or using some custom Sprint functionality. The Mobile AP one should work.
By the way, where did you buy your A70, I've been trying to buy one but its sold out everywhere.

Wireless Tether is an app you run on your rooted android phone. It shares the phone's 3G/4G connection, which will show up as an available connection in your A70's wireless settings and allow you to access the internet with your tablet.
An adhoc network is used to allow the devices to communicate and share files with each other. I don't believe the A70 will connect using adhoc wifi.

Once you have Wireless Tether installed and opened on your rooted android phone, open up the settings. Change the SSID to something you will recognize. I would leave the encryption and access control off until you have it working. Then go back to the main screen and press to start tethering. Once it starts, open the wifi settings on your A70 and scan for devices. You should see your phone and be able to connect to it.
Once working, I recommend going back and setting the access control and encryption. You will have to set a passphrase in the phone for the encryption, then edit the connection on you tablet (long press) and add it to the settings. With access control enabled, you have to accept the connection on you phone the first time. Once you start tethering and your tablet tries to connect, hit menu->access control on the phone and accept the connection.
I've red that Android devices could connect to ad-hoc networks if you are able to make changes in config files via adb. Alas I can't do this on my 101

[Q] make telephone think its connected to Wi-fi while using 3g data

hi...i usually connect my lg optimus 2x to PC with USB and use computer's internet connection (reverse USB teethering). but i want to know if its possible to force telephone that it thinks that it is connected to wi-fi, while using 3g data connection. i want use that especially when games want to download data over the wifi...
If your device is rooted, you could get a wireless hotspot app from the market, start the hotspot on your phone, then connect to it (connect your device to itself ).
I don't think you can connect to your own hotspot.

tried but its not working..i think that androids dont support wifi multitasking like iphones do,so they cant receiving and teethering connection at the same time..

Actually you can. I've said that before to other people who wanted to download gameloft data and for some other purposes which require wifi, and it worked.
I want to do this too.... but the Mobile Hotspot app on my phone turns off WiFi if it is one, and if I turn on Wifi while Mobile Hotpsot is on, it disables the Hotspot.
Any other solution ? An app maybe ? A tweak ?
what wifi hotspot app was used?.. and to the OP, how did you reverse tether via usb?

How? I've been searching for a workaround to this for some time now.
Please tell me how...
I have a rooted Bionic, Eclipse ICS 4.0.4. I use FoxFi Full version for my hotspot. I need my phone to connect to the mobile hotspot it's currently transmitting. (I think that's what I need)
Why? I want an advanced ability to monitor who is using my mobile hotspot, using DroidSheep to monitor what they're using the connection for. Trouble is, DroidSheep (And al similar programs) only work if the phone (with the app) is actually connected to the wifi network. It won't work if it's the one transmitting the signal.

You just have one wifi Modul it can be a hot spot or it can be connected to a Router.
Both together isn't possible.
Else you could also use it as wifi repeater

How to share 3G connection from XPS to laptop?

Dear guys,
I am wonder if you guys can help me about Internet sharing from XPS to laptop via usb cable. Can I use the tethering function in setting or else?
Best regards

i never relied on inbuilt tether function. i always used this
its pretty easy to setup & no rooting is required. till now i used with almost every kind of android version & with tablets also.
Easiest method I've found is to set up a wifi hotspot with the phone and use that.. No cable required!

Doesn't that suck battery like hell on both devices?
You can use the wifi tether to share the connection. It is really easy to set up and no cable is required. The drawback is that it causes heavy battery drain. USB tether is also working fine. You will need cable to do it but this way you can even charge your battery while browsing. See what works better for you and use it.
My network prohibits tethering, but branded .62 has the feature inbuilt. So the question is, can they detect it?
You might want to consider the huawei e586 wifi hotspot. It can support 5 devices on wifi. Just add your 3g data sim card.
i have the concept of wifi hotspot (sharing the mobile data via WiFi), but it is different from tethering. The only way to get WiFi tether is to use apps that require root access?
Thanks!

i am on vodafone italy,
for the "normal" internet usage from the smartphone i use this APN: mobile.vodafone.it
for the tethering i should use this APN: web.vodafone.it
using the smartphone as hotspot wi-fi it not goes to "web.vodafone.it" but through "mobile.vodafone.it" only sharing the smartphone’s normal network
i notice this since with mobile.vodafone.it i pay 0,30€/100mb
with web.vodafone.it i pay 1€/500mb
yesterday i used my Xperia S as hotspot wi-fi and after the 100mb of usage i received an sms from vodafone telling me i used all my data.
Maybe this is only an italian thing or italian-vodafone-thing

If you go into settings > more networks > tethering. There is an option for usb tethering. I have never used it so I cant confirm if it works or not. There is also quite a few play store apps that can do it.

Those all work fine on an metered data plan. But for those of us still on unlimited, any USB tether option just brings up the VZW subscription message.

That program along with any other USB tether programs still uses the built in USB tether option and when you attempt to activate it, you get the error message that a subscription service is required. This is the same message that most WiFi tether apps give as well. Portable WiFi Hotspot is the only app that will still activate the WiFi hotspot if you just hit the home button after the error message. I am just looking for an equivalent for USB tethering.

Same problem on my s3. Can't believe I can't find a solution for allowing USB tethering. Google results fixate on the wifi tether, which works flawlessly for me. But when I try USB tether, that damn sub message laughs at me.
From the lack of responses here, I'm guessing that there is no way to USB tether w/unlimited data on stock rooted ME7 (aside from paying $30/month of course). I'm sure USB tethering is possible with custom ROMs but those aren't possible with ME7.

The T-820 is wifi. Are you asking to use it to Tether to another device, or using it to connect to the Internet via your phone? If it's the latter, you go into wifi settings and select your phone to connect to. You can't use it to connect other wifi devices as the T-820 doesn't have a cellular connection.

sorry, I wasn't clear.
there's no mobile in my test setup.
right now I have the lg v20 connected to the router/adsl via wifi.
Next, I create and enable a wifi hotspot on the v20.
the tab s3 connects to the hotspot and, finally, to the internet.
conclusion: the v20 did not have to disable its wifi to launch the hotspot..
thanks
Maybe describe your use case. What are you planning to tether TO the tablet.
The LG has a tether option because it has a wireless chip. The Tab does not have such a chip.
Most android Wi-Fi hotspots will shut off the Wi-Fi radio and provide internet through your wireless carrier. It would be unusual (useless?) for a phone to share the Wi-Fi signal it's using.

When using Share it to get pics from an iPhone (in the woods with no internet or Wi-Fi network) the SM T820 will not initialize a Hotspot. Is there a fix for this or an easy work around?
