cyanogenmod problem. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to hide root from applications in cyanogen mod?

A bit old thread, but did intune work/accept your phone if NOT using root while running under cyanogenmod, or did it complain about something else then?

[Q] Possible Root for all Android Devices?

hi
sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm not an expert at rooting and stuff...
but I found this video
and wondered, if the second thing they're showing (i understood it was like a linux kernel bug) could be used on other phones and android versions as well.
if so, it seems like a method for gaining root on all devices, at least temporarily.
am I wrong?
thx JW 301
Don't know about that but, Super One Click can root almost any android smartphone running Froyo (android 2.2.1) use it...
Read this http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-to-root-froyoandroid-22-devices.html article for more info.
There is a possible bug, as it is a OS. But i think that being linux everything is possible so over the bugs.

[Q] Installing CyanogenMod 7 on Aria

Hi All,
I am currently running Liberated Aria Froyo Series FR008 as described in the below thread by attn1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715
Now, I want to upgrade it to CyanogenMod 7 as described in the below thread as it has v2.3 of Andriod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297547
I was reading the instruction mentioned in the below thread and asking to set S-OFF for hboot and advised to use revolutionary.io tool. but i have v0.57 of hboot where as revolutionary.io is talking about v1.02 hboot.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Aria:_Full_Update_Guide
I am seeing similar kind of threads but am confused and not sure if mine is the same problem as others. So, could you please guide me installing CM7 on my phone?
Installed version on my Phone
Andriod Version - 2.2
Kernel Version - 2.6.32.17-cyanogen-liberty
Thanks A Lot,
Harsha.
Hi All,
I have installed HTC ROM 2.2 which updated hboot to v1.02.
I've installed v7.1 package as described in the below link (now my phone is rebooting. Hoping everything goes correctly)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297547
Thanks,
Harsha
If you already have Clockworkmod installed via Unrevoked, then you do not need to update to HBOOT 1.02 or use Revolutionary to obtain S-OFF. There are additional benefits to having S-OFF, so you may want to do it anyway, but Cyanogenmod 7 will work just fine with S-ON and HBOOT 0.57. It's simply a matter of going into Clockworkmod, wiping everything from the device, and installing the Cyanogenmod ROM in its place.
I know it doesn't matter now that you've already done it, but I wanted to point this out in case anyone else with the same question sees this thread.

Thanks drumist for clarifying things. Now, i'm definitely understanding things a little bit more
Here are my observation after 24 hours of usage on v2.3 andriod -
Pros:
1. Its definitely faster than my earlier ROM which is based on v2.2. Probably its because of absence of HTC Sense UI.
2. Enabling/Disabling Wifi is faster now.
3. Inbuilt FileManager. This is a must have feature. Glad its inbuilt now.
4. Videos play smoothly now (.avi). Don't if this is because of v2.3 ROM or is it because of new player (MX Video player) i've installed.
Kind of Cons: (These are not complaints. Just my observations which i feel to be missing in my new ROM)
1. In my Earlier ROM, when i start dialing the number, beneath it shows list of contacts starting with those corresponding names. (I am definitely missing this feature. I hope some one already has a solution to it.)
2. Missing HTC Sense Inbuilt widgets like SMS Viewer,Photo Album
3. Setting Alarms, especially scrolling hours/minutes thru finger swipe is missing.
And last but not least, thanks to CyanogenMod and all the other devlopers/testers who participated in developing this ROM and making it successful.
Thanks,
Harsha.
Sense and Cyanogenmod come with different dialer apps. I don't think it's possible to install the Sense dialer in Cyanogenmod (for the same reason you can't use Sense widgets, etc.). However, you can download different dialer apps from the Android Market and use them in place of the default one that came with Cyanogenmod. Search the Market for "dialer" and a few should show up. One of them might have the feature you want. (I've never used any of them though, so I don't know how good they are.)

Thanks,
Harsha.

It already exists here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260578
Some things don't work (read the first post) but it should be useable if you don't need any of those features.

Install CM Nightlies Rom on I545VRUAME7

So after this 4.2.2 10.2 update on the Verizon Galaxy S4 which now changed the baseband version to I545VRUAME7 I can no longer access boot recovery to install the latest 4.2.2 10.2 CM Nightlies. That I have deduced from google search.
What I do not understand is why is CM NIghtlies still releasing newer and newer 10.2 nightlies for the Verizon Galaxy S4 if you can not boot into recovery yet.
I really hate the factory operating system. Facebook never works right and I can not even use my Smoothie King APP!!! It keeps force closing. Not to mention, the keyboard is extremely slow and buggy too.
Is there something I do not know?
Thanks
Because anybody who bypassed the bootloader under the old software version (MDK) still has a bypassed bootloader, and some of them want CM10.2. It's only the stock update that breaks the bootloader exploit, not Android 4.2.2 and above in general. You can still install new ROMs to the phone forever as long as you hacked it under MDK, and never put completely stock, unrooted ME7 on it for some reason.
Your question have been answered, but I don't know how you or anyone else is having issues with the stock ROM. Any apps force closing or going slow such as facebook are not the ROM's fault, its the app itself. So you are stuck with the factory ROM for now, and who knows how long. I have been on the stock ROM and it still runs fast enough for me and i've rooted every phone I've owned since the G1.

Had the same issue on the previous 10.1 stock rom. The CM Nightlies ROM fixed my problems and made the Galaxy S4 much faster.

[Q] Help for novice re: Custom Rom / Rooting / SkyGo

Hi All,
Help would be much appreciated on this. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to the whole Rooting / Custom ROM thing, so if I sound stupid or something doesn't make sense then just let me know and I'll try to explain better.
I bought a Sumvision Cyclone Voyager BT 10.1 back in June running Android 4.1.
Sumvision then released a firmware update to move to Android 4.2 which I flashed to my device in August/September I think (not important).
Anywhoo, the SkyGo app has now been made available on the Play Store, so I downloaded, and looked to put a bit of Sport on, but it says it doesn't work on Rooted devices.
I don't think I have a rooted device, but after searching the internet a little it appears that SkyGo won't work if you have a Custom ROM either (which I'm guessing this update is?!).
What would be the best option here to get SkyGo working? I'm happy to go back to Android 4.1 - but I'm not sure if flashing this to my device will still show as a Custom ROM?
I'm also wondering if actually Rooting my device and then using one of those 'Hide My Root' apps to fool SkyGo would also work?
Any advice greatly appreciated - the easiest solution (other than buying a different device) would be best for a simpleton like me.

That's the thing, I don't think my device is rooted. It has a custom ROM, which is why I don't think SkyGo works, but it's not rooted, so the 'Hide my Root' app won't work.
Would actually Rooting my device work then? Just so I can use that app?

So... my devise isn't rooted....
Any suggestions? Should I root it and use the root hider app? Does that hide the fact you're using a custom ROM? Does anyone use them?

Custom ROM for Asus Memo Pad 7 2014 (Me176C/cx)?

Development on this device has been... well, zero, other than a working root method (ZenFone Root). The stock ROM is decent but it has some annoying bugs, such as apps disappearing on reboot. Would love to see CM11 on this, or any custom ROM in general. I know that we most likely need to unlock the bootloader first, then figure out how to flash a custom recovery before we can even do anything else. Does anyone have the knowledge to tackle this? This device doesn't even have its own forum yet.

There is a way now! Flash Temp CMW session: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/intel-android-devices-root-temp-cwm-t2975096
On ME176C/CX it is best to use T2; WORKS like a charm!
