I know there is many article out there saying is OK to charge overnight as your phone is smart enough to prevent overcharge. But since this is a new adaptive fast charge charger, I thought it might have a different story. So guys, is it ok to charge overnight using the given adaptive fast charge charger? Thanks

Technically yes because charger nowadays automatically cut-off the supply after fully charged, but you never know when would that function of your charger stop working or whether it is working properly right? So, no, unless you are willing to take the risk

it's stops but after it load again with conservation charge..in the past (HTC desire) I used a kernel patch to make a kernel that do it that way..original it was charge again from 90 percent..so I waked up and phone was at 91 lol..

From what I understand so far, when your device is fully charged, the supply (to your battery) is cut off, and the battery stay idle, at the same time direct current is continuously supplied to your device to power it up, but the battery itself is not charging.

so i came from the evo 4G where people threw hissy fits both ways. There were people who would claim left and right that it is bad for the battery, that the battery will catch fire, melt, explode, what have you, and then there was the other like 80% of us who used trickle charging with out a problem.
personally, and what I seemed to notice, the like 6 people who actually claimed to have issues with trickle charging had purchased and were using super cheap chinese batteries.
So i am going to disagree, and say there will be no issue with trickle charging unless you start using cheap chinese batteries, and even then the percentage chance of you having an issue is so minor.
I have noticed that until it gets to 100% it gets awfully hot. If I leave it charged/plugged in all day its cool to the touch.

looking at battery monitor widget my phone after hitting 100% charge is pulling 180 or less mA while "idle" and the temp sits about 32-33C. Seems to keep the Voltage very very steady. Whatever HTC did I really doubt it will hurt your phone in anyway.
I don't think it will hurt the phone. I do think it will make the battery have even less life though. I.e, when you finally do unplug it, the battery won't last very long. Batteries need to be charged and discharged often to work well.
My laptop at home stays plugged in all the time. And when I unplug it, it lasts about 10 minutes on the battery. lol

No, my statement was 100% true. It might've been irrelevant because it's a different type of battery, but it was not false as you said.
I have read that LiOn batteries do not develop memories as bad as other types, but they still do to some extent. FWIW.
If you watch your phone, it stops charging when its full. I often pull the phone off the charger with less then 100 charge due to this and this is also why the bump charge will bump it back up too 100%
So leaving it plugged in ask day will have no harmful effects at all.

Personally I never shut my phone off, it's on 24/7/365, if I don't want to be bothered it goes into silent mode but is always on.
For me, I plug the phone in every night when I go to bed... when I wake up, I unplug it for a minute and then plug it back in. Normally when I wake up it's anywhere between 95-100% showing.... Once I'm done getting ready I grab the phone and off I go with a full charged battery.
Unlike some phones the android phones have never kept a 100% charge while plugged in... this is one thing I do miss from the iphone, it always kept it at 100% while plugged in. The android phones stop charging when it get's to 100% and start again at an unkown %.
There is no magic... the only reason for unplulgging it is to start the charging process again.

Use the built in battery widget and see what you get.. it will display the actual percentage on the screen.
I doubt it's a problem, it should be capable of switching to a trickle or over to powering vs. charging in the circuitry. The worst thing you can do for these relative to the charge is drain them completely and let them sit drained. These days for the longest life, you'd keep it at around 3/4 charged, but it's not a huge difference in life usually. The reason for that is lithium batteries hold a native charge by default.

My battery monitor widget shows an average of 3h 55m for AC charge and 6h 15m for USB charge.
This is for 0-100%. On AC charge, it will go from 10-90% in a little more than an hour.
According to the AC charger itself 3 hours for standard 4 hours for extended. Those are estimates I am sure. And probably with the phone powered down.
Last time mine was totally used up it took about 2 hours.

Nothing. It still trickle charges near peak voltage when the phone is off.
True on the trickle charge, but it's not fighting the drain of keeping the operating system, radio, and other processes going while it's charging. You get a much more complete charge when it's completely off. Also, after it shows the green light, and while still powered down, unplug, and plug in until it lights green again. Repeat a few times until the green light is almost immediate. You will then have reached the full capacity of the battery.
If you have to have your phone 24/7, invest in a couple of extended batteries, and have a standalone charger. The most you will ever be offline because of power is maybe 90 seconds while switching batteries.
One more thing, for those that don't know yet, before powering down, go to Menu, Settings, Power, and untick the fast boot option. That way you will be fully powered down while charging, not just in sleep mode.

Why?
I've been charging various devices overnight for as long as I care to remember and never had a problem. Modern chargers drop to a "trickle" charge when the device has reached capacity and so just maintain the full charge.

You are both right, however it can have a detrimental effect on the battery over a long period of time. Lithium-ion batteries don't really like to be fully charged, and when they are packing high voltages for long periods of time this can have a damaging effect on them. This is why "bump" charging can damage your battery if you do it often. It is actually much healthier to charge the battery on the go instead of one big overnight charge. Knowing this.... I still charge it overnight, because I simply don't care.

I know one issue was that using the included charger, if you dont make sure the cable is plugged all the way into it it will not fast charge. It will still do the cable charge, but if you plug it in just a bit harder it will switch to fast charge. Might check that.

User manual says:
Increasing the charging speed
To increase the charging speed, turn the device or its screen off when you charge the battery.
• While charging the battery when the device is turned off, the icon appears on the
screen.
• You cannot use the fast charging feature when the screen is turned on. Turn off the
screen to increase the charging speed.
• You can check the remaining charge time on the screen. The actual remaining time
may vary depending on the charging conditions.
• You cannot use the built-in fast charging feature when you charge the battery
using a standard battery charger.
• If the device heats up or the ambient air temperature rises, the charging speed may
decrease automatically. This is a normal operating condition to prevent damage to
the device.

THANK YOU! Top reply I was trying to work out why it wouldn't fast charge, even when using the supplied charger and cable, however I hadn't realised that I needed to push the USB A end (the bit the plugs into the charger) that extra bit - Fast Charge now working and return avoided!
my phone just started the same issue. till last night it was working perfectly fine but all of a sudden when I put my phone to charging this morning, it says cable charging instead of fast charging, I've tried different chargers as well but still no luck. I thought maybe it was a software issue so I should try a factory reset. In order to make backup, I tried connecting to my laptop but windows refused to detect my device and it says your device is not working properly. Anyhow I did a factory reset (loosing all my data) still it shows cable charging. Any idea what this problem is about?
Try plugging in while ur screen is off. It did the trick to mine
i was just about to post about this same problem, til i looked over, and my phone switched from "charging" to "fast charging" once my phone was over 15% in battery life. So thats what i think it is..... If you plug in with less than 15% battery life, it is not powerful enough to fast charge. Once it hits 15% it will be powerful enough to "fast charge". does this seem like a reasonable explanation, cuz thats all i got LOL
I've had the same issue on and off with my Edge+ and have realized there are 2 things that will help start fast charging. First is to close all open apps and notifications, second turn your screen off and wait a few seconds and plug in. Hopefully this will help
Hey Guys,
Anyone else experience slow to almost non existent charging speed if the phone has been on for a few hours?
The only way it goes back to charging fast is if I restart the phone while its plugged into a charger.
I have tried using the stock charger and aftermarket ones and different cables as well. Makes no difference until restart.
Chime in if anyone has any idea whats happening and/or how to fix it.
PS: I am unlocked and rooted if that matters.
Is the screen off? Having the screen on during charging will skew the charge cycle.
Does it charge normally when shutdown?
Possible battery, charging port, or mobo failure.
Check phone for any signs of battery swelling.
Same issue here. Got the phone today, charges sloooow by USC-C as well as QI... Although it shows "fast charging" in settings. I will check, if it's better after a reboot.

Btw maybe intelligent charging. If phone can't detect a time where you don't use it it have problem adapting charging speed. If you change everyday the moment you put it on charge better deactivate that option

The only harmful part of the charge cycle on this phone is the top-off, and you can adjust that. You could use a 5W charger but I doubt it would extend the life.
More beneficial is checking other threads for features that may drain (add wear to) the battery.

Simply use a 12 watt or less brick.
Fast charging needs a compatible 25w brick and cable (Samsung). In most phones it has to be enabled. Disabling fast charging is easy... enabling it sometimes is not

The whole point of having a feature is to use it when needed. If I am in a hurry I want to activate 30W charging with a single toggle in the settings. I don't have to bring two different power bricks, one 5W, one 30W, and manually switch between them.

I have tried using the stock charger and aftermarket ones and different cables as well. Makes no difference until restart.
Chime in if anyone has any idea whats happening and/or how to fix it.
PS: I am unlocked and rooted if that matters.

you should get a new phone it's the only way to fix it because it's broken and you can't fix it when it's like that.
