Any way to stop stock music player from autostarting on BT connect? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've searched and can't find anything, but I need to find a way to stop the stock music player from playing when my phone connects to my car's BT. I use Google play music and want that one to auto start, but every freaking time I start my car, the Samsung player starts that dumb preloaded song.
Honestly, I don't care if I can't get play music to autostart, I just want the Samsung one to stop. And yes, I've tried disabling the app, but it can't be, at least non-rooted. So, any help/advice would be great. Thanks.

Is Google Play Music set as the default music player? I haven't rooted my phone or anything, it's completely stock and just by setting Google Play Music to the default on Day 1 of getting this phone (April 8th) it always auto starts when I connect via Bluetooth.

I never got the option to set it as default and I didn't see anything about it in application manager. Any idea where to find it?

OK, figured it out in a round about way. I had to open a .mp3 in Samsung's file explorer and then it asked me for the default. So let's see if it works.

@Hendrycks
Thanks! It worked.

That didnt work for me. Upon linking to BT in my car, the stock Samsung player still auto starts. I have tried setting play music as default, I have set Player Pro as default. it still auto launches the stock crappy Samsung player app. Ideally I dont want it to auto launch any app. I use Pandora alot in my car and since it auto launches the samsung app, that means my car stereo does not display the track info for the playing song in Pandora on the screen.

Sooo annoyed
I have the same exact issue and it is driving me crazy. I have tried everything in the phone and settings and there is nothing. I have downloaded both Connect and Play, and Smart Connect as bluetooth connectors but the stupid factory music beats it to the punch every time. Nothing works! I am about to chuck my phone. Someone please help!

me too
Does anyone have another suggestion? This happens to me if I even "pause" my podcast player too long. Truely annoying.

I am going to try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cp2.start.and.play.music.player&hl=en
So far, with the UI, it does look like it has the right settings/options.

Sorry to bump this but came across this while trying to sort this very same issue. I'v found an app called Package Disabler Pro in the Play Store . The best thing is that it works without root.. It isn't free but I thinks if you been looking for something thats solves this issue its worth it. It worked for me so hope it works for you. And if you try it quick enough you can get a refund if it don't work

Download Trigger, I have mine set so when it connects to bluetooth it launches Google music but you can choose anything you want or nothing at all!
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app

I have the same problem. I installed Trigger, but it didn't work. What task did you add?

The best I came up with was denying access to storage in the application's settings. Now it just prompts me to give it permission when I connect to bluetooth. At least that horrid song doesn't play anymore.

Have you tried Tasker ? Had same problem myself on S6 Edge, but after a little fiddling with Tasker. The default "music" closes, tunein radio is launched & my volume levels are adjusted. I can revert back to "music" by pressing play/pause on hands free.

[Q] Song names through bluetooth

Hi,
If using the default music player I get my car to display the song name, whenever I switch to another player (PlayerPro, Pandora, Spotify) for some reason it won't show the song that is playing.
When I used my iPhone 4S it displayed song names from all apps (Spotify, pandora etc.) The weird thing is that the stock app does send out the song name to my LCD, but other apps won't...
Unfortunately I can't use USB either with the S3 (my car doesn't seem to want to support it, even with the mass storage mod).
Did anyone encounter this and found a solution maybe?
Thanks!
Royi
I think it is an issue with the apps. I went to the PowerAmp forums and people were asking the developer to add this with an upcoming update.

Thought so. Weird that Spotify on the iPhone sends all the info but not on Android (same for every other media app)...
Hope they will add this soon...

Rydeen DV638A & Google Play Music

So I just bought and installed a Rydeen DV638A in my car. It's an in-dash receiver running pure Android, specifically Froyo.
Been using it for a few days and I absolutely love it. Would recommend it to anyone. It's got a Cortex A7 processor, is very quick and responsive, and it boots up in just a few seconds. It also comes pre-loaded with the Google Play store and has access to most Froyo compatible apps.
I've got virtually all my Google Apps installed. Drive, Movies & TV, Keep, etc. all of these work flawlessly. What is annoying me is this. I have Google Play Music installed, but when I click on it, it launches the stock music app. No matter what I try I can't get it to launch Google Play Music instead of the stock Froyo music player.
Since I have all my music on Google Play, I'd like to fix this, but I really don't want to attempt to root the unit... anyone know what I could do to solve it?
Okay, so I played with it more and here's what's happening now. I noticed that I had 10 authorized devices on my Google Play Music account, so I removed some, and that helped. Now, if I press Google Music, it actually opens Google Music - 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time it still opens the stock Froyo app, but if I exit that app and try again, it works. Weird.
Thinking about setting something up with Tasker. Maybe make it so that any time the stock music player launches, it auto launches Google Music. Any ideas?

Decent Music app for Android Head unit??

Hi all,
I have an Android Headunit which is currently using the default music app. I'm looking for another one that has more functions.
When the unit starts up it will generally run the last running app which would normally be the music app. with the music app it will auto start playing again.
I'm basically looking for a decent music app that will auto start when opened. As well one that has album cover and has the random music function option.
I've played around with Tasker to play the music when the app runs but this won't work when the head unit auto starts the app.
Thanks
i think many music apps can do that, when you open the app the music starts, all you need is to set in the setting.
i search for you online, there's 10 best music apps, but i don't know whether i can put the link in the forum. try this:
www dot techsupportalert dot com/content/best-free-music-player-and-organizer-android dot htm
if not, please tell me i will delete it immediately!!
the players i've tried don't seem to have that setting. The last one was Poweramp which seems to only auto start if headphones are plugged in.

Phone call kills stock music player

Have the new Stock MM V340 on the Honor 5x.
I'm streaming Music over bluetooth in my car. Now evrytime when i'm getting (or making) a phone call, the stock music player is completely killed. This is very inconvinient. I have podcasts of several hours, and even the position in the podcast is lost.
When going into settings, battery, I have the possibility to protect apps, except the system apps like the music player.
Has anybody a hint or a solution for this problem? Thank you in advance for any help.

My best guess is that ur device is very low on Free RAM. Try uninstall as many apps as you do not absolutely need/use frequently. Also, put only the apps you need to stay running after screen goes off as protected (i have only 6 protected apps). Hope this helps. Cheers.

I don't have this problem even when I'm using the phone the whole evening with several apps. The music player gets killed, but continues to play at the exact position that the player had stopped the day before.
So I don't think it's memory related. Must have something to do with the phone app, or with the "Bluetooth Connect" App that I'm using so that the Music player automatically starts to play music when connected to my car Bluetooth system.
Have the same problem when using Google Play Music instead of the music player. What I can't understand is why it's not possible to make the default music player as well as Google play music a "protected app". Both app are not listened.

[Q] Play Music download AW2 rooted TicWatch

Hi,
I recently rooted my TicWatch and now I found that the download of music via Play Music does not work properly. The app on the watch states that the music has been downloaded but if I try to start the playback it wants to have a WiFi connection. It looks as if it only affects playlists. Also the covers for the playlists won't be download.
The usual stuff, clearing cache and date, reinstall, reset watch didn't help.
Any further ideas? I'm pretty sure that this worked before.
Thanks!

I think you have to accept that!
No, I won't. I just noticed that the music is working out the phone has Bluetooth enabled. Do the downloaded music is somehow not on the watch but is streamed from the phone instead. I will note try to sideload the phone play music app. We'll see if I can download the music then.
I just realised how stupid the actual behaviour is. The watch says that it wants to have WiFi streaming enabled in Play Music, to play the offline music. The funny part is that it does not matter if there is an actual WiFi or mobile data connection present. My watch is set to flight mode and is able to play the downloaded music. So apparently the only thing you need to do is to allow streaming via mobile data connection and not only via WiFi. #Facepalm
Btw. the sideloaded Play Music app does start but is closed immediately.
