Hi - I've been running win10 preview on the 920 for a while now. Decided to go back to Win8.1. Loaded up the Windows Phone Recovery tool, and the phone was picked up OK. I selected to restore phone, it downloaded the 1.5gb FFU and started the restore. Pretty early in the process the Recovery Tool came up saying it lost connection with the phone, and to disconnect and try again. At the time, the phone has a reddish background with NOKIA and a progress bar on it with no progress made. I powered off the phone and wanted to try again. At this stage, the phone would not turn on.
I have tried the following:
- reset by holding down vol down/power
reset by holding down vol up/down/power/camera
restoring phone through Windows Phone recovery tool - however it tells me the phone is not connected.
restoring the image that got downloaded for rm-821 through the Nokia Care suite - again it says that the phone is not connected.
restoring the phone with nokia suite - however this says the phone is not supported.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I can try to get the phone going? Holding down vol down/power for 2min+ does not vibrate the phone like it used to. Windows's USB storage indicator on taskbar however shows up when I connect the phone, and when I hold down vol down/power it does seem to turn off/ and on again after about 15 seconds. But that's the only sign of life I'm getting - nothing on screen, no lights, no vibrations.
Ideas?
Cheers!

YUP. I "soft bricked" my t-mobile galaxy s (vibrant here in the us) or so I hope. The phone was rooted via z4 on the latest android t959uvji6 from t-mobile.
How did i do it? Brick my phone that is...
The 3d gallery was pissing me off by picking up everything on the phone. I tried clearing the default setting via the manage app but nothing changed so I decided to delete it. First backing up the apk and odex file from the system folder with titanium backup then deleted them from the system folder via root explorer. Rebooted the phone, pulled out the battery, waited for 30 seconds or so, popped in the battery and booted up the phone w/o any issues.
I tried installing the backup 3d gallery apk file and got the "app not installed" error on numerous attempts. Then tried simply copying it over again with ti backup and nothing happens. Gave up and said the heck with and went the factory restore route, got all the relevant apps installed and tried reinstalling the 3d gallery apk but resulting in the same "app not installed" error prompt. So I again copied over the apk and odex file into the system folder. Rebooted and nothing... phone does not boot into the home screen.
At this point here is what the phone is able to do.
It will boot up and display the default galaxy s animation, goes through it's array of colors then comes to a stop at all white letters then the screen goes blank and nothing happens - zip. nadda. i left it on for 12hrs like that - blank screen w/all the hard keys lit up.
What i did notice was win7x64 recognizes the phone after it gets into the blank screen of death as mass storage units.
So far i've tried booting into the recovery screen via the three button method and none of them works.
Did the karma-volume up-home-power twist - nothing
Did the karma-volume down-home-power roll - nothing
Did the karma-volume up and down-power jiggy - nothing
I tried the key combos for about 2hrs without any success then jumped into adb. After reading for a bit I realized that the phone was still rooted and the debug mode was enabled the last time i shutdown the phone (good'ol ti-backup)
For a while there adb did not recognize the phone at all but with an odd power cycling while spamming "adb reboot recovery" it was able to finally nab hold of the phone and jump into the recovery console. At first I thought it was pure luck so unplugged everything and tried it again - works every time if i did the odd out of sequence power cycle while spamming the adb console with "adb reboot recovery".
In the reboot recovery - deleted the user data and did the restore.
Here's where I think I really screwed up - now the phone is no longer in debug mode.
Long story short - is there a way to get into the recovery screen w/o debug mode on?
**quickly pulls on flack jacket**
but seriously any suggestions would be great
Wrong section bro. You probably won't get an answer here.
To answer your question. Yes, Remove Battery, Plug your phone to USB, Press and hold the volume down and the power button Put the batter back on. This should get you into download mode. Use ODIN to restore.
the usb jig trick did the work - now i have two phones!!!! (bought the nexus s yesterday) lol
Time to ODIN.
To access Download mode.
Unplug. press volume up and down togheter, and connect USB. VOILA!
If ODIN does not recognize it, plug and unplug again

no!
Why the hell are people giving others ideas on how to get into download when their doing it wrong.
its JUST THE VOLUME BUTTONS, NOT THE POWER BUTTON ALONG WITH IT.
volume + power = Recovery, which in this case you probably cant get into
Volume - Power = Download mode, which everyone can get into unless if they somehow hard bricked, if its possible.
Hi, I just bricked my phone while installing the CyanogenMod stable release. Chances are that the zip file i downloaded was corrupted (The filesize was much smaller, must be an internet disconnection that i did not realise) and I am unable to boot into neither download mod nor recovery mode. When holding the volume up and power button, I see the load screen with the yellow triangle (obviously), and it turns black, and the same screen appears again, except that this time, it stays that way.
I tried to see if Odin can detect the phone but because it is not in download mode, it could not detect anything even when kies was switched off. (checked task manager to make sure i killed it) However, the computer was clearly able to detect the phone. (I am using vm ware and when i connect the usb to the phone, i am prompted to choose between connecting it to windows or mac) I then tried to do it in pure windows but odin was still unable to detect the phone. I tried Heimdall to no avail as well. My jigg should arrive in 2 days but from what i seen from the [debunk] Jigg thread, I am not confident that it'll bring me into the download screen.
Is there anything that can be done without sending it for repair? Thank you
Get your battery out the phone, put it back in and hold Volume-down + Home + Powerbutton immediatly pressed, You may have to repeat this several times. When its needed to repeat it more then once let the battery every try some more time out you device.
When You get into downloadMode flash an OdinRom
Hope it will help.
Alright! Thankfully, that worked after a few tries. Tried to flash CM7 again but apparently, it does not work. Think i'll have to ask people in the relevant thread. Thanks again!
So, I wanted to update the Rom, so tried to go into recovery mode. Pushed the volume down button instead of up, so got into download mode. Pushed the volume down button to cancel. Then pushed the right combination, but nothing past the Galaxy S2 logo with the warning triangle happened.
Tried to reboot a couple of times, but now the phone is completely dead.
Everytime I turn it on the Galaxy S2 logo appear, and when it dissappear the phone seems to be dead. However if I look closely, the screen is not turned off, it it just black (but turned on), and every 5 seconds or so I can see it "blinking", but it blinks "black" if you could say that, you won't notice it if you don't look careful, or you are in a dark room.
If you triple click the home button you normally "invert" the colours on the screen, and this also works in this case. Instead of it flashing with an almost unnoticable black, it is now white and every 5 seconds the screen turns off very briefly, but then the screen is white again.
To get it to stop doing this I need to remove battery. If I push and hold the power button the phone just restarts with the galaxy s2 logo, and then does the same again.
When I connect the phone to a charger or to a PC (while it's powered down), the battery logo appears for a couple of seconds, and then it enters this "blinking" screen thing again.
When connected to a PC it does not appear as a drive - however it seems like windows detects it, it installs the GT-9100 drivers. Samsung Kies can't connect, it just keeps trying to connect forever, without coming with an error, but it's not connecting.
Hard reset is not working in any of the described ways, whatever I do, if its to get it into recovery mode, download mode, or just trying to turn the damn phone on, it just do the blinking thing.
Is this some sort of a boot loop from hell!!?
sounds strange, can you still get it in download mode without issues?
If you can i would advice to flash back to stock(!!)
or you could try to flash a cf-root to see if thats gets you into recovery format system, data, cache, dalvik and flash the new rom.
but im not sure if that would work, a clean install from stock would be better i believe,
as to why it went this way i have no idea!
Good luck!
If you can get in download mode, flash a stock rom with odin and that should do the trick
yes!
Well, that was odd, thought I had tried that several times, but yes now at least I can get it into download.
Now I used ODIN to flash a file (CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar) that I had laying on my PC from back when I was originally rooting my phone. ODIN gave me a "Pass" reply and I got the phone into a bootloader. I quickly wiped everything I could, and at the moment I'm seeing if I can boot the phone normally.
Thanks!!
Well my rom is f***** it won't boot, but atleast I can get it into recovery mode.
Have just installed cyanogen 9 stable + gapps, it is now booting up!
Luckily I backed my phone up with Titanium backup just a couple of hours ago!!!
it's working!
Well that saved my ass. I was so close to throwing my phone out of the window and going online to order a S3...
Now I'm setting up my phone - nice, wanted to try Cyanogen 9 anyway.
Cool.. Always be patient.... Rather than thinking of purchasin a new phone when these kind of situations occur. Keep a usb jig with you

So I've had this Nokia Lumia 800 gathering dust in a box because I could never figure out how to restore it.
I'm guessing it's corrupt firmware or something but I know it's a common fault on this phone.
It's just stuck on start screen with the NOKIA logo.
It does sometimes bring up the no battery symbol, just a battery with one red bar in the middle of the screen and then windows trys to install drivers for it, so I guess it's recognized to some extent (fails to install drivers)
Does anybody have any ideas on bringing it back to life?
The phone was never rooted or modded

You can try these (2) methods...
Method 1) Note If your phone is currently stuck on the manufacturer's logo, Disconnect your phone from the USB cable.
Hold the volume - and power buttons to turn it off. After your screen goes black, quickly hold only the camera button AND connect the USB cable to your phone and computer...before the phone vibrates and starts back up to the logo.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Continue holding down the camera button until you see the connect-to-computer screen.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Release the camera button.
Leave the phone restart alone, then wait about 4/5 minutes .
==========================================================
Method 2) What u need:
Google this and download : Nokia Care Suite
Next step:
1. Open Program files (x86) -> Nokia -> Nokia Care Suite -> Application louncher -> bin -> ApplicationLauncher.exe
2. Choose PRODUCT SUPPORT TOOL FOR STORE
3. Take a Nokia Lumia 800. Turn it OFF. HOLD VOLUME+ BUTTON and Connect to pc with usb cable. Release when it vibrates.
4. In PRODUCT SUPPORT TOOL FOR STORE press PROGRAMMING-> RECOVERY.
5. Next step Press: FILE -> Open product.
6. Choose the RM-801 product. Press open. Wait until it loads. Dont take care if shows in corner some errors.
7. Press START.
Wait for the Phone to flash and restart. [After flashing connect your Nokia Lumia 800 to charger and wait first it shows: Battery with red indicator, then NOKIA logo, after 2-5 minutes phone will boot up 100 %].
...Thats it
hi,
I was trying to fiddle around with TWRP and wanting to get another rom, but i accidently removed the OS from my phone. It wasn't a big problem in first instance, because i could just install a new ROM. But then, my battery (apparantly) was dead. So i charged the phone and tried to boot it, but offcourse, it couldn't boot. It does show the sony logo and after that a blue screen when i boot in fastboot (volume up + power and then release volume up and press volume down when the phone vibrates). but it does not get further. When i plug the phone in my PC, my pc does not detect the phone. The LED-indicator does shine red when i plug it in the pc. I also can not get into the Team win bootloader....
Does anybody know how i can get back to ANY android version? I do not really care what version at the moment, as long as i can boot it.
thank you in advance!

yes. BTW i have connected my phone to my pc and when I press volume up + power followed by volume down + power, my PC sees my device as "SOMC flash device", Sony companion also does recognize my phone, but it gives an error while repairing the phone (UEupdate failed error 2005)
