Hi I have NeatRom 4.4.4 and I have longlasting problem with google play services and battery drain.
The problem always occurs when device is fully charged. Google play services causes permanent wake lock and extremly drain battery. When device is restarted then problem is temporarily solved till the next full charge of battery.
I tried install wakelock detector which found that configfetchservice is main cause of wakelock. I tried to dissable this servise trough the app disable service but nothing has changed
the wake lock detector now doesnt show any unusual wakelock but google play services still rapidly drain battery because of wake lock so its clear that wakelock app doesnt work correctly.
I have also tried uninstall updates of google play services and then reinstall again but nothing has changed.
could somebody give me any advice with this problem?
I read that this problem occurs with android 5 but I have 4.4.4.
BTW I have autosync off, GPS off and location off
@Samuelgentl
Are u sure , that services are forced to go into deepsleep ? Check them again. Install app called 'App Ops' (the one with lolipop like icon) . And search throung all of your apps and disable loation permissions and keep awake permissions.

Is it OK to completely disable google play services wake lock? I thought that only one part of google play services makes problem and only this one should be disabled. But I dont know which one causes problem.
I read on the internet that problematic are systemupdateservices and configfetchservices. I have tried to disable configfetchservice and enable updateservices but it seems not to solve problem.
This google services battery drain is a big mistery for me.

So hi guys!
I have a question regarding the location service of JB. I'm talking about the google location service over wireless connection - not gps.
I have two devices - both running jelly bean. I have Google now completely disabled also i ticked off location history, i simply want to use location for stuff like weather apps and maps, so i see where i am when i open the map.
I have this feature enabled since i was running Froyo on my Desire back in the days And it was never an issue in terms of battery drain.
But now its just aweful. On both my devices i can basically DOUBLE the standby time when i disable the location service... And if i check BetterBatteryStats app it always places location services in first place for wakelocks.
Here comes the question: Is this a general Bug on Jelly Bean or is there a way to make it behave like it did on ICS or GB? I dont need it to update every 1min or whatever it does to drain my battery... Once every hour is more than sufficient! Are there settings for this somewhere?
See Screenshot on how it looks like on my Transformer prime. For my SGS III this would show up as Android-System, but its the same thing in BetterBatteryStats.
cheers!

I have been wondering the same thing. What I don't understand is why the drain is so bad even on Wifi. I don't know much about coding, but it seems like there should be no reason to check your location as long as you are on a Wifi network because obviously you haven't moved far since you are still connected. I have over 30 minutes held awake by maps and never left my Wifi network.

Map applications are the most power drain , it must open the wireless network and GPS,They are all power consumption
Well at least i'm not alone anyway i disabled the location services on my devices for the moment and only enable them when i need it. Big improvement in standby drain! Its a workaround but no solution...
cheers

Maybe you can use One Power Guard from android play shop, can help you solve the standby problem.
clouds5, did you ever find a permanent solution better than to turn on location services when needed? Your op describes my situation perfectly (except with sgs ii, jb) and I now only tick on location services right before I fire up maps/navigation/etc. Makes a huge difference in the amount of standby time, but I'm looking for a more satisfying solution.
So I've been trying to reduce the amount my phone wakes up. So far in gsam, the ones that consern me are android system and google services. Android system held my phone awake for 1.5 hrs and woke it 70 times. Google services was held awake for 22seconds but woke it 63 times. These are my 2 biggest wakelocks. I have sync turned off etc. How can I stop/ reduce the amount of wake locks?
Well android system is your phone Lol so that has to stay on or you have no ROM at all
And Google services is recommended to be on
If you need info on what the services do than go into the manage apps section than scroll the right so it says all at the top and click on the service and scroll down and it will tell you why that service is needed/ triggered by
Not all of the services will tell you exactly what there for but if your only worried about those 2 than your phone is fine
EDIT: if you scroll to the the running section in app manager and click on a service it gives you what you need to know
this is mine

i know there needed, but waking the phone that many times....?
Are you using latitude? Try disabling google location services to see if that cuts down on the number of wake ups.
Of course if you have sync off you'd think it would kill that too, just taking a guess.

"google messaging service" & "media" are constantly running. How would I end those? Do I even need messaging service? I can't find it on android tuner in the system app sections.
There's a thread on media server wakelocks and someone said it may be due to corrupted media files. Check it out:

Hello!
Used Greenify version 2.4, donation, with Xposed.
I have 3 apps configured to be greenified: Viber, WhatsApp and PushBullet.
Apps have no permanent status icons.
All of them use GCM. GCM pushes passing is activated in Greenify .
Whole phone sleeps ok. I don't see much wakups in statistics during the time screen is off.
PushBullet is normally hybernating, getting pushes, waking up. Just like it should by Greenify design.
But Viber and WhatsApp are always staying "Pending" even when screen is off for hours. There is no any notifications or warning on it in Greenify interface. Just "Pending"...
How can I further diagnose my problem? Or maybe I am doing something wrong?
Thanks!
UPD:
The only difference between my apps is that in non grinified state Viber and WhatsApp are stated as "Running in background" when PushBullet is usually stated as "May slow the device when... app is updated". Thus PushBullet behaves more gently in general. Ok. But what the heck is that everlasting "Pending"?
And what dark magic is hiding behind statement "will hibernate in a short time after the screen goes off"?
Hmm... No thoughts at all?
I'm just curious: if there is a Hybernate action shortcut and application can catch the screen lock event WHY subj can't activate this Hybernate action just after screen off???
I also have a somewhat similar issue. Though I have not greenified Google Play Services, when it is shown as Pending and when the Greenify+lock shortcut is used, Google Play Services remains pending even after hours. Should it not be greenified when the shortcut is used?

Mine too. I think google backup transport and android system that keeps google play service running all the time. Even if i manually push It doesnt.

You are right. But in my case manual hibernation works for Google Backup Transport. However, once I unlock the screen, it is again running and keeps running for hours till it is manually hibernated. It also eats a lot of battery.
I seem to have found a way out for Google Play Services. When I hibernated it manually yesterday and when it said that the app, if greenified in the present state, might have issues, I ticked the checkbox for ignoring its state and then manually greenified it. Till now though it runs on screen unlock, it gets automatically hibernated after the screen is off. I have not so far faced any other issues because of my action.
Maybe @Kirrrr can try the same on Viber if this option is available.
@naik2902 can definitely try it on GPS.
However, I am not responsible for any consequences.:fingers-crossed:
It looks quite wrong and strange. Isn't it?

Yes, it is strange. May be the apps like Whatsap, Facebook and Viber use other methods for staying awake!
I've tried some methods like:
App Ops (root) - Disabled location and wakelock
Wakelock Terminator - Prevent wake lock (with filters: NIpCollectorWakeLock NIpWakeLock CheckinService NetworkLocationLocator)
The battery usage is still high (higher than the screen usage), and the awake time on battery history occurs a lot (see image).
Has anyone fixed this? Or has anyone just generally improved battery life through something similar?
Kernal: 2.2 bonuzzz
ROM: Eudemony Rom Alpha V3
Thanks

I'll also give it a go. Trying with an app that simulates init.d executions also, so if it works, I may be able to automate it on boot.
Thanks for the heads up. Will report back in a day or so

Not sure it worked. I still don't have great battery life. Something is wrong, and my phone is constantly awake.

So, at the end of the day. I tried many different approaches to solve this issue such as:
preventing wakelock
using applications like greenify to reduce usage
removing google services permissions
preventing syncing
None of these seemed to help a lot (and some even made battery lift worse!).
So, I've removed all of my battery saving apps etc, and have just resorted to disabling location (when I don't need it).
That seems to have done the trick and my phone is no longer waking up nearly as much as it was before.
I know its not the best fix, and its just a band-aid, but its better than terrible battery life.
Hopefully someone has a better fix soon.
Thanks
Tried "Amplify"?
You could also try an Xposed Module called "Amplify" to limit your wakelocks. Look here "[Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks" for detailed information.
You will need root and Xposed Framework.
Hi everyone!
I've ben having problems with my S23Ultra in that I've been noticing that both Galaxy Buds Pro Manger and Google Play Services will continue to run in the background even though I'm not using my ear buds.
Is this something people are aware of or have experienced in the past?
It's not a MASSIVE battery drain but it is noticeable.
Since my last full charge Google Play services has been active less than 1 minute but has used .5% of battery, and Galaxy Buds Pro Manager has been active less than a 1 minutes but has used .3% battery. Keep in mind, I haven't used my buds at all since my last full charge.
All the galaxy wearable apps are in deep sleep so I don't understand how they could be using batter in the background as well?
Thank you for any help!
Nope..I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary!
Having the same issue here but only with Google Play Services. It is working a lot in the background and draining my battery significantly.
For example, today after a 100% charge now with 91%, Google Play Services has been active in the background 7h, and has used 0.8% battery, which equate to 9% of the total battery drain for me today.
Does anyone know how to minimise the background use of Google Play Services?

Yes this exactly!! If anyone knows please bless us with your advice!
Go to play store, settings, genera and turn off app install optimization...
Also you can try to disable auto app updates and do it manually.
