Has anyone flashed this kernel?
I downloaded this from the link at the top, and flashed via TWRP recovery (yes I did wipe the caches).
After I rebooted, I checked the Kernel version, and either it didn't work, or the version of this kernel is the same as the original one I had, 1.11.651.3. In fact, I tried this twice, but the results are still the same.
Am I missing something?

Do you have hboot 1.5? Just asking because there are ~2 more steps to take before flashing a kernel... Or I heard you can use Flash Image GUI.
Sent from my Infected EVO3D! Virus, you rock!
I flashed a AOSP kernel, and my rom didn't load. so I restored a backup and my wifi didn't work and also. So i flashed this kernel and now my backup doesn't work or even any rom that I have downloaded.
using viperrom before.
now nothing is working
questions is:
1. is there a way to flash a kernel, using recovery?
2. what roms work with this kernal?
im getting really sick of this evo3d.

1. Yes, so long as you are NOT HBOOT 1.5
2. This is a stock HTC Sense kernel as clearly outlined in the OP. It is not AOSP.

yeah I have Hboot 1.5
and I know I installed a kernel for AOSP and downloaded an AOSP rom. I should have said that before. but The AOSP rom didnt load, it just hanged on the HTC screen. So i recovered my backup using still on the AOSP kernel, it worked excluding WIFI and some other stuff. so I installed this kernel using GUI app, and restored my back up again. and now it just hangs.
now I can't find a rom for this kernel I downloaded three different roms, all sense. none of them are working.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive this kernel is WAY outdated (note the date of the OP)
I successfully rooted my 1.5 hboot with HTC's official method. All my root apps work fine and I installed steel rom 2.01. My kernel version is
2.6.35.13-g84f8edd
I originally tried to flash synergy rom, this caused my phone to randomly (and frequently) reboot. I flashed steel rom and my phone is stable now. I downloaded the showdown kernel 2 from here at xda and flashed it by itself. I don't believe my kernel version changed; I would think it would say showdown something. My setcpu does not have any overclock capabilities right now.
Is this because I don't have s-off? If so, is there a way possible now to flash kernels on evo 3ds with the hboot v1.5?
Also if anyone has any tips on getting synergy to work I'd appreciate it.
Which synergy are you flashing? If you took the update and are on 2.3.4 you can't flash a 2.3.3 ROM. sounds like you are flashing an older synergy.
Edit: also there are no kernels for 2.3.4 out yet except the stock because HTC hasn't released the source code
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
The file I downloaded was synergy-evo3d-unofficial-345.zip. It took me a while and some confusion to find it. I think the thread said the kernel was included in the rom. But I think it also said 2.3.4. I would rather be on 2.3.3 with a custom kernel.
I just flashed synergy revision 318 and it didn't flash the ziggy kernel. I cleared data before flashing. I see my vrsion of androi is 2.3.3, and I tried flashing the showdown Kellernel 2. Any ideas? It still says I have the stock htc kernel.
You can't flash a kernel if you rooted using HTC's unlocker method.

HTC's unlock method doesn't let you flash kernels ( not to my knowledge but I could be wrong ) I've read several threads about people trying to flash kernels and it looking like it flashed, but didn't actually flash. BUT, your on 2.3.4, so you can't flash a 2.3.3 kernel. You gotta flash a 2.3.4 kernel. And the only losses kernel we have is freeza's kernel.
From what I understand, HTC's unlock method only allows write access to the system partition.

Hello, I have a couple of questions that I want to ask about my HTC Amaze.I am using an HTC Amaze 4g running Speed Rom 8.0 by EclipzeRemix and is on 4.0.4. I want to flash a kernel on my device and wanted to know whether I will need S-Off because I already have an unlocked bootloader. Also I want to know which kernel I should flash, because when I google it all of the kernels I found say gingerbread so I am not sure whether it would work on my phone.

You should be S-Off when flashing a *kernel*.
and go here for faux kernels : http://faux.androidro.ms/ruby/beta/
those are ICS i believe . but they're other kernel's such as nightmare's kernel .

thats wrong.. you do not need to be s-off to flash a rom anymore... however you should be using 4EXT recovery when trying to flash a rom, since 4ext has "smart flash" option to flash the kernel properly .. and as for what kernel that could be used for the Amaze.. i only know of the Faux Kernel found here

Can someone please clarify what's the difference between files that have S-OFF in the name and those that dont. I understand that ones with S-OFF are for users that have S-OFF their phone, but WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between the files? Are the ones without S-OFF in their name were modified to allow system write? More importantly, were the S-OFF files modified in any way?
Also, how do we install these? Are these flashable zips that can be flashed in recovery? Or, these needs to be boot.img flashed first and then modules in recovery?
Thank you

The ones that don't have S-OFF are for flashing the old way using fastboot commands. They are different in the fact that the S-OFF versions have a script that will flash the boot.img and the WiFi Modules.
Zone23, thank you for the info. So, S-OFF are to be flashed straight via recovery without any additional steps. Where these kernels modified in any way or are they truly straight from the factory image?

Is the new kernel compatible with pre-ota phones? If so, does anyone yet have experience with the battery drain vs LK, etc? I wonder if it might play better with the radio than kernels based off the old kernel.

This kernel is only compatible with ROM's that are based on the 2.04.605.2 update... If the ROM you are using is NOT on the 2.04.605.2 update do not use this kernel.

If you are s-off you can just flash the s-off version and it will update the boot.img and modules
If you are s-on you will have to manually flash the boot.img in the bootloader and then the modules.zip in the recovery

So like a bone head, I flashed this kernel despite being on viper 1.1.3. Already on new radio. Works well from what I can see so far. With s-off, I can write to system. Battery life so far seems quite good, similar to LK, etc. No crashes, wifi and radio work fine. Any specific problem you are aware of with new kernel/ pre-ota based ROM?

Interesting. Let us know how it works out for you. Perhaps the real incompatibility is using an old kernel (1.x) on a newer (2.04) rom (reports of flickering screens, broken wifi).
Sounds like using a 2.04 kernel on an older rom is ok.
Unfortunately, that means that until source is released, we won't see the variety of kernels that will work in the newewr, 2.04 based roms that are being developed now.

So far so good. Again, I have the new radio, new kernel and old ROM (viper 1.1.3). Only thing that crashed/hung was kernel tuner, not surprisingly. I froze that and disabled loading of kernel settings with system tuner and all smooth.

Why is this so confusing?
I am rooted with S-Off and unlocked
I did not get the OTA.
I did install the new radio only (1.01.01.0110)
Can I install the 2.04 s-off version though TWRP?
I guess the confusing part is being pre-ota and not wanting to brick or wipe my phone, while having the updated kernel and modules.

Hello! I have unlocked BL, and I installed the mysense-dx rc 3.5 on my DX, with the attached kernel.
Yesterday, I try to flash mysense-dx5 rc 4.0, without the kernel. I wiped, flashed the ROM and after the HTC logo, it shows a black screen. I didn't flash the kernel attached to mysense dx 5, I used the rc3.5's kernel. The same happened with InsertCoin, too. The problem is with the kernel? But they wrote, these ROMs shuld work on every kernel. Can it be another problem?
Are you S-ON or S-OFF? Probably S-ON. If so, flash the kernel manually. Take the kernel (boot.img) out of the ROM-zip. Use the search on XDA to find out how to flash with fastboot.
But they wrote, the mysense dx5 shuld work on every kernel. So why it doesn't work on rc3.5's kernel??

Just give it a try, as suggested. I still don't know if you are S-ON or S-OFF. What HBoot version do you have?
I'm S-ON and I have JB bootloader(1.25xxx)
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Free mobile app
Then the solution for you is to flash the kernel manually because of S-ON. Again: to start, best is to flash the kernel which comes with the ROM.
Maybe the problem is that you use an ICS kernel (v3.5) for a JB ROM (v.4)
Thanks. But if I take a nandroid backup from my current rom and my current boot, than flash the sense 5 ROM and the kernel and i don't like the new ROM, can I restore the previous ROM and the boot? Sorry for stupit questions, but i restored the system a lot of times, but I'm not sure I can restore the boot, because S-ON. Can I restore?
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Free mobile app
You can restore the ROM-image. I don't remember well if the kernel gets restored also. Most of the time I flash the kernel manually. If you are on JB, use JB-recovery and JB-ROM/kernel.
Advise: stick to S-ON and learn to use fastboot-command for flashing kernel. It is just 1 DOS-command, clean and safe. Don't mess around with old software which tells you that 'it is very easy to use'.
Interesting forum: this one and this one, read #5.
