SGP611 - big gap from the speaker? - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

hi there,
Just got my new SGP611 wifi (white), and I found that the bottom speaker looks having a big gap....
is it normal? or due to it is whilte color and easy to spot? I am wondering how it is waterproofing

I would try and call sony support and tell them what happened. Maybe even record the call if you can. Let them know about the gap and say you think it may not be waterproof anymore. They should be responsible if the device isn't up to specs. FYI Don't take **** from the reps on the phone either. Tell them what you want or you won't be a customer of theirs again.

thanks, I go back to Sony and they agreed it is faulty build/assembly. They issue a letter for checking the tablet in good condition then get an exchange from the retail shop.

Please help me fix my camera! Black patch..

Hi All,
I just bought the Photon 4G day before night and am loving it
But I realized that camera is showing a black patch on the screen... Its there in the file even when i take snaps as well as record videos Its set there permanently (same spot). Its somewhat translucent.
Please can anyone help me out fixing it cause its disappointing me somewhat
I have attached few images to let you guys know how it looks..
Oh and I think I dont need to point out the location of this ****. Its at the same spot in all the three images. In the second pic below the androids right leg...
P.S. Tried resetting the phone to factory setting, tried removing the battery.. No warranty for the phone. Bought it from Ebay India. Its the USA Sprint phone..
If cleaning does not help guess you will need a new one.

I did try cleaning it. The glass is absolutely flawless. So the main sensor / chip is defective i guess. I came across people facing, if not the same, but similar issues with their Android phones. I am not sure.
I hope I see someone who could manage to fix it or I'm totally out of luck. Have to live with that ass forever lol. Hope it doesnt expand any more!!!
you already stated you cleaned it ,so I will not beat that dead horse. If I were a betting man (I'm not really) I would say you have one of two issues.
1. (and I hope its not this) that phone was dropped and something broke or cracked internally.
2. Someone took it apart and lint or dust got between the lenses. Good Luck.
Althought #1 is possible, everyone I know with high end Smartphone treats them like 2 month old babies!

I dont think it has fallen... Its absolutely without any scratches or anything anywhere.. ANd the mark looks like a tiny butterfly! lol which is kinda transparent. I tried manually makin some marks on the camera lens with a blue marker pen, but that doesnt look the same at all. it just brings a blue hue (ink color) on the image. You cant see it as a mark (spot like in this case)..
And I'd like to mention one more thing. This thing, when I zoom it to the next level, it moves to the left and when I zoom it even more, it gets off the screen! (outside)Funny!
And about the dust thing, I really doubt..
Looks like dust on the sensor cant do ne thing unless u dismantle the whole camera module.

Strange I must say. We have Digital Zoom, not Optical. Is your phone Rooted with stock ROM?
Have you tried shaking it to see if the spot will move ??

I agree with farookh. If this were an SLR, I would say dust on the sensor and give you pointers on how to clean it. Since the sensor is internal here, you probably need to return it and get a new one versus voiding any warranty by trying it yourself.

OK. Let me tell a trick as former sprint store manager. I just used this to replace my epic so I know it still works.
If you have to phone active on your account call technical support about the phone. Tell them you are calling because a Rep at the store instructed you to call and do a "advanced exchange" on your device. Tell tech support that the store couldn't fix it and didn't have a replacement phone for you. Say they wouldn't exchange for new device and gave u a hard time. It is important to sound like your very unhappy. If they mention insurance, say your phone didn't qualify because the phone suffered no damage, it is a manufacturer defect as told to you by the repair Rep.
They may attempt to ask you what store u went to. Cut them off and say sir, I am not dealing with store again. U going in circles and feel everyone is spinning u and don't want to replace phone.
They will process advanced exchange and you swap phones through mail. They will send new one and you ship back old one.

If its dust and we only have digital zoom, shouldn't the spot still remain even after zooming? why does it move outwards
And I noticed 1 more thing yesterday... When I focus the camera (specifically that point!!) towards the sun, the spot just dissolves in the light and is not visible... Same is the case when I point it towards some very bright source.

Its stock ROM. I tried using a couple of camera apps, but still no luck. The spot appears on all. Do these apps use the same module used by the Default camera App? If yes, is there a way to reinstall the module.

Motorola India told me that they cant help me as this phone hasnt released here. They have no hardware and software support. They want me to co-ordinate with Motorola USA.
And when I lookup my phone's IMEI on motorola, I see that it is under warranty till Oct 2012...
Do you think I can get a replacement being here in India. I have the box, the manual and the handset.
I would snail mail moto and get a RMA or something in writing.

Xperia ray ui board with vibration

Hi guys and gals,
I posted that on q&a but went unnoticed. Just want to check if there is hope...
My primary microphone is gone (water damage). It sits on the "UI board with vibration" under the home button.
Could only find it in two online shops, but not in stock for a month.
Now the developement part: is there a way to make the secondary microphone default -as ti is I see it is only used with camera. -This is for the time I wait for the new part.
Anybody has access to a new part quicker than in a month? Will settle for a used one.

Only thing I found was a micswitch, and all it does is changes the a1026 value in build.prop -or ment to change it, doesnt quite work here. Gave me an idea though, so I changed it myself, but makes no difference.
Since the primary stopped working I hear myself in the speaker, comming from the secondary, but for some reason that sound from the secondary mic is not feed to the remote phone...

Ok, we'll try it from another angle.
Cant get the part anywhere. Its still on warranty, I kight send it off, but not sure I want to waste time.
Is there any warranty seals that I didnt see when stripping the bottom plastics? As in, will it show at the service that I opened the phone? Also, wil they see "water damage" as they usually see -I didnt see any traces.

Have you try to clean it with this: http://www.amazon.com/CRC-05103-Quick-Electronic-Cleaner/dp/B000BXOGNI
or a similar product?
Thanks, I think its the lowest price cleaner I seen. Localy at my usual electronics shop they go for about 20.
I havent really noticed any moisture residue. Got the phone stripped right after and "hair dryered".
I'm just wondering, have they got any fancy x-ray os such that would tell them anyway?

Every smartphone have a water indicator: i don't know where is in the ray,but is a small piece of special paper that change color when get water.
sorry fo r my english...
Inviato dal mio ST18i
There is a water sticker on the battery and all over the insides of the phone. The bottom panel including. If even one of them is red, the warranty is not valid. My ray got dipped in water too, fortunately i managed to open it up and clean in fast enough, so no damage(except the lost warranty).
K, so I guess thre million dollar question now is where tyat sticker is oj ray. My phone only got the dipped to the top of home button (standing).
I'll chance it, since I cant find the replacement parts anywhere

Well, well well... just got the phone back from the shop. Warranty was a keeper and the Ray is fixed and good as new... or... as new. Lost root, toggles, and all the work done previously. On a bright - I can have fun doing it all over again and best of all - I don't have to rush unwinding the headset from the pocket just to answer the phone anymore.
Happy days.
Thank you Sony

My Sony Customer Service Story

Hi, I am just posting this out of frustration and to share my experience with Sony. I bought a non-contract, sony Xperia Ultra Z outright from the Sony store in the middle of October and a month and a half later the touchscreen became completely unresponsive. I could see that I was still receiving text messages however, so I assume the other functionality of the phone was still working. I called into Sony and over several hours of troubleshooting and repairing via PC Companion it was determined I had to send in the phone for repair, which I was quite reluctant to do but had no other choice. I sent it in and had the case escalated to a supervisor level and was ensured that the case would be expedited with the repair facility... three weeks later and still nothing but the runaround with Sony representatives and supervisors. Furthermore, it took numerous calls to Sony to convince them to send me a loaner phone while my Xperia Z was being repaired. Once the loaner was received, it would not even connect to the internet and consequently, I'm sending it back to Sony. Though the supervisors are polite and empathetic, they have promised numerous times to call me back with an update on the status of my repair (RMA), but don't. I'm frustrated firstly, because the phone stopped working so quickly after I purchased it. Mostly though, I'm disappointed with the way Sony has handled the situation. Its been disorganized on Sony's part. Now, i'm still stuck without a phone and no status on the repair for my phone... I doubt I will buy a Sony product ever again. I even doubt I'll see my phone again, it's absolutely ridiculous, especially given that there was zero water or physical damage to the unit. It boggles my mind why it's taking so long as I have been told the repair center is 'looking at it' for two weeks now. I've read about Sony's evaluation process online somewhere, and in my judgement it should have been completed already and a decision rendered. Ridiculous.

Well i don't know if it exists in your country but in mine, we have separate ori set that's from manufacturer like sony, htc etc and ap set that's an original part but some of the main part is built from other factory so its cheaper than original....and also the warranty also not covered by manufacturer because they are not build by them.....maybe my explanation may a bit wrong but you can Google it....

Still no progress with Sony. They tell me that the repair centre is still "looking at it". Which is clearly b.s., it doesn't take two weeks to evaluate it and render a decision on their next step. Who even knows if anyone has truly even looked at it yet!
I am wondering, does anyone know what obligations Sony has in regards to the manufacturer's warranty? Things such as max. time for repair? Loaner phones and the type of loaner phone provided? Just looking for information to help me get them to expedite either a) replacing the phone or b) sending me a loaner that is a XZU, or c) fixing mine and sending it back asap

On my previous xperia z there were 8 dead pixels so they replaced without asking any questions.

Hahaha.... hope dont get need to. Well its not visible in daily usage as I keep low brightness ,its just visible in start up screen so doesnt affect the usage.
So if I ignore this one pixel is there chance that this dead pixel will result in more dead pixels? As you cant be sure replacement device will have more dead pixels.

No, they don't multiply
If the replacement device has one, then refuse to accept the replacement. They'll have to get you another one.

Ask them to compare the display on your device to another display. Most probably they will have the old phone lying around - ask them to compare with that one if possible or another one. Insist on checking, they will try to say that the display is like that only and nothing's wrong with it!

BNIB--Return?

I have a Z2 brand new in box with the seal still on. I loved the feature set and the looks before I stumbled on to this forum. Call quality should be a given on any phone >$50. I didn't even think about it until now. I will not be able to return the phone once I open it. Should I open the box or return it for an M8/S5?
It seems device dependant again, some devices are slightly different because of manufacturing errors so the first few batches have a good chance of being faulty, some faults effect call quality
My Z2 quality is crisp however the volume is low
Check if you can find what batch your device is from it seems anything before week 22/year 14 is problematic
My device is 14w23

Is it possible to check without opening the box? From the serial number? The serial starts with BH90B. That seems like from an earlier batch going by the Z1 serial number (starting from BH901/2/3...).

my device is 14w23 and i have the call quality problems ! as in the other party struggles to hear you , or they get feedback. and it makes no difference if that to a land line or another mobile. i have spoken to Sony UK, and they told me to do a "repair" doing PC companion, which i did and all credit to Sony, they rang me back a few hours later to see how the fix went. well it obviously didn't work as the lady i was speaking to was getting feedback, and since then the problems still exist. as i bought the phone from phones 4U and not Sony directly , my next thing is to return the phone to them and let them do a repair . but not knowing if this is hardware or software issue . im not holding out much hope that the problem will be fixed ? all i know as i use the phone for my business i cant keep on using a phone my clients struggle to hear me on

Xperia Z2 Tapping "rattle"

Hello guys...
Basically when I tap near the top right of my Z2 back/or front screen and also the bottom left, I hear a slight "rattle" or click noise, coming from the camera area....
Ive searched around about this and a lot of phones apparently do this, it has to do with the autofocus/camera/lens mechanism? I would just like to know if any of you experience this on a Z2
Thank you for your time
This is actuauly things in the phone not being screwed in place

Apparently what I am experiencing is the camera inside, while its moving up and down - part of the autofocus, and its present on all of the devices...
I dont think its worth sending it in if its that, just to get it back the same.. Thank you for your reply

You have to tap it firmly and harder than just a normal little tap on the upper part of the device back or front... Tap everywhere and you will notice different sounding areas. Maybe some batches have it and some not, so far quite a lot of people have said they have it.
