I have the ConsumerCellular version of the Mate2. I wish I didn't, but I do. I am thinking about selling it and getting a non CC version, but I don't think I will be able to.
I flashed @xordos b148 zip to "convert" the CC version to OEM version. It worked fine, but here are the problems I have.
1. TitaniumBackup and all other backup apps don't work. TitaniumBackup says "Batch backup failed: Insufficient free storage space." Despite having a few free gigs. Even if I only select one app, it says this. I have tried all the regular fixes I found with Google, like deleting the odex file which we don't have, and installing busybox and not using the one it comes with. It has to have something to do with Android's janky SD card directories like Legacy, emulated, etc...However I tried both the internal SD card and External and both say the same thing.
1a. When doing certain commands via adb which would create a file somewhere, it will return the following error: "/sdcard/*: cannot open for write: Read-only file system".
So some apps can use the SD cards, some can not.
2. Most push notifications fail to come in. The Google ones seem to work fine...Hangouts, Gmail, etc, but any other app seems to have a lot of problems getting a notification through. CloudMagic, my favorite email app almost never shows a new mail until I go into the app. Every now and then I will get a new email, but its about 1 out of 10. Twitter, facebook, and even the stock messenger app usually don't show a notification.
I have wiped and re-flashed quite a few times, and nothing seems to help.
Anyways, if I could get both of those problems fixed, I would be pretty happy with the phone.
Did you restore YOUR Cust folder?
I found that a lot of my problems with notifications had to do with protected apps under settings. I added Gmail and Google messenger to protected apps and it seems to have fixed any problems I had with them.

I just flashed Xordos' zip file that came with a cust folder. I don't have my original anymore and wouldn't have known how to do that anyways. Anytime I try to copy or move anything in the cust folder it fails due to inadequate permissions.

I'm sorry, where is this "protected app" setting?
Might be a kitkat only thing. Been awhile since I've been on jelly bean. I know I've seen people in other threads suggest that power genie and notification manager might also be the problem.
Hmm, I don't have that setting, and I don't know what pier genie is....but I have gone through the notification manager and granted access for everything awhile ago...didn't seem to help.

And regarding readonly sdcard/TB backup issues, try disable the setting 'mount namespace separate' in SuperSU, credit goes to someone in mate2 thread.

The second one I am still working on....I renamed the powergenie.apk, but I have went all through the settings and seem to be missing the battery saving section, where exactly is it? I found the battery in settings, but its just stats with no options.
I think you are good now. Once you freeze/renamed those app, the battery saving setting will disappear. I am in L now so I cannot check but I believe this is the reason.

Yep, everything seems great now. I took my phones listing off ebay just because of this thread, so thank you very much.
hehe, glad it helped. Even the jellybeans is so smooth that I dont have any complains on it. Regarding the L on CC, hang on their, it is too early to tell, but i think we will get it.

Recently Im coming into issues, though. Any websi te with flash. Its saying I need flash, and when I go to the market to update flash, it says its not compatible with my phone.. in fact. A lot of apps on the market are saying not compatible with my phone now.. Any ideas? Thanks

First, get titanium backup. Completely uninstall flash via TB, then reboot. Download flash from the market and it should work fine.
If after that you end up with flash audio but no sound, then you need to get an app called " root explorer " and edit a system file to fix it. I can't remember off the top of my head which file and where but that issue was discussed in the liquid 3.0 thread, maybe 3.1, not too sure now.

I found the reason apps are saying "not compatible" with your device. Apparently my google profile has my phone and two other randomly named devices on it... Anyone know how to get rid of the useless ones? I cannot for the life of me find where to delete these device profiles...

I haven't been able to delete them, but you can hide them from device lists in the Market and they won't give you that problem
on the webpage, click on the settings wheel in the top left corner --> my market account --> settings tab, click edit on any devices you don't use --> hidden in menus (under visibility), and make sure you hit update
I'm trying that, but this is absolutely ridiculous. There are three devices listed, and when I click to hide two of then, only one is hidden and the other two show, no matter what....
Turns out that this is a known issue to google, they're working on a fix. Hopefully soon, and hopefully the cause (and fix) behind all this.
I deleted the stock Text Messaging and using only Handcent. I'm not sure if that did it or my deleting some folders from the SD card did it. I thought all of the ones I removed were from old apps that had since been uninstalled. Maybe not.
Everything is working except the receiving of pictures. I can send them just fine.
This old Milestone is getting long in the tooth so I thought I'd remove some stuff.
Also, it seems my gmail account isn't notifying me either and it is set to auto-sync so perhaps one of the seemingly empty files, now gone, killed that too.
Any ideas of how I can fix both problems?

I actually have no idea what that means. Is there any way to fix it with just the Handcent only installed? There isn't very much room once two messaging apps are installed and both running.
The gmail is now working, it seems to have been unhappy syncing and maybe my dogs kept un-checking it, but, it's seems to be working now.

If you are rooted you should re flash the rom that you are using or you could find the mobile messaging apk that you uninstalled and install it again
It's rooted with the stock ROM.
Whatever I cleaned out also included something that broke email sync.
It will not stay turned on, I have to go manually press "sync", which will not stay turned on, and I'm not sure if I need to add another account to remove that one, in order to re-add it to see if that works.
However, when I tried to remove it, I was prompted that to remove that email account, it only has one, I had to return the machine back to stock settings. Blehk!
I wouldn't mind a non-stock rom, especially if it can be done with two left hands and cross-eyed crazy knowing nothing about it.
Do any of the roms, which work well on the Milestone, tether, usb and/or wifi with no other apps required, or are these two problems, that I've created, perhaps easily fixed?
I'll poke about and see if I can find the stock messaging apk. Somehow, I'm not sure I'd know it if I actually found it.
I I was wondering if there are any programs where I could do GREAT backups.
Mainly 1 for phonebook, so that I can safely copy all my contacts and modify them from the computer. I have like 300 numbers but want to erase 200 of them while still having them on computer if I need them. I can't find a reliable app to do this so am wondering if anyone has any experiences in it.
The 2nd backup I'm looking for is an APP one. It doesn't hve to necessarily backup the apps, but at least be able to queue all of them I want RE-installed and download them all from the google play store or something. I want to get into flashing ROMS, but I have like 7 pages of apps already that I don't want to lose, as I'm still sorting through trying to find the ones that work best for me so I can remove all the extras.
First off, I think these could've been answered by searching, so please do that in the future.
If your contacts are stored as Google contacts (as they should be), you can edit them from GMail. On the top left corner of the page, there is a menu that says "GMail." Click it and select "Contacts." I've found this to be the easiest way. It'll also always backup your contacts, and you can restore old versions of your contact list if you need to do so. (Since you talk about wanting to delete them from the phone, but keep a record of them, if you delete them from GMail and remember the date when you had them all in there, you can always restore it back to that date and they'll all be back.)
Also, from the People app, you can go to Menu -> Manage Contacts, and export the data.
Regarding backing up apps, this is the main reason I don't think you've done any research at all. There's a very-well-talked-about app called Titanium Backup that will backup and restore every app on your phone. You have to buy the key for it to restore all of them without your involvement--the free version requires you to give permissions to install each app.
First off, I did search prior to asking the question and could not find what I was looking for. There is no need to be rude, as searching was obviously the first step anyone would or at least SHOULD take before asking such a question.
As for your replies, I have chosen sync in my contacts, but they will not show up in Google for some reason. I've tried tons of ways, and it shows like it is syncing, but when I check... nothing there. I don't know if something is wrong in my settings or what, but I've tried many times... it just won't work for me for some reason. Maybe it's because I have 6 google accounts attached to phone, and even though I'm only syncing 1, it is mixing them up or something.
And I already have Titanium Backup, it keeps crashing on my phone for some reason, which is why I was looking for an alternative. I have over 300 apps on my phone right now. I know that's horrid, but I downloaded a ton of them for the same things so I can test them and find the ones I liked best, in which I plan to mark them all, re-flash the phone with whatever ROM (later once full rooting with S-off and everything has been tested more thoroughly), and only install those apps I liked, which should bring it down to maybe 100 apps or so.
I do understand I might SEEM like I didn't search, but trust me... I did.
Anyways, I thank you for your response (both the neg and the pos), and your time was greatly appreciated. I am about to toy with my settings and see if something is blocking the sync or something. I didn't know you could export from the people app though, so thanks for that especially.

Man, thanks! That export feature is NICE! going to see how easy it is to modify it shortly, hopefully it's readable in Excel.
Regarding Titanium Backup, you are rooted and have granted Titanium Backup superuser permissions, correct?
Yes, I used that 1 click .bat file (from the first method that was shown). I think my superuser app was corrupt, so I re-downloaded it and it's working fine now. Thank you.

I ran into an issue with TB when I tried restoring from my OG EVO. I am rooted in the EVOLTE but not running a custom ROM. the ROM I was running was deodexed. Stock EVOLTE is not so I was unsuccessful in my restore. I bought mybackup pro and WA able to restore SMS and .MMS this way. Not sure I'd you are having the same issues or not though

I agree, all contacts should be on google...then theres no worry about backups (ive had 3 android phones and a tablet and they all auto sync the contacts instantly).
Editing them on the computer is a breeze, the duplicate find/merge feature is simple and works very well.
What exactly are you all doing to make them sync though?
I went to Accounts & Sync

Can anyone help at all please. I've tried loads of things to no avail.

A few things to try (I'm sure you've done them already but just in case)...
1. Scale the image to different sizes before saving.
2. Make sure your wifi or data is on, as the app sometimes needs to consult with whatsapp servers for operations like that.
3. Make a backup of the app. Then go to Settings > Apps > select Whatsapp and then 'Clear Data'. See if that's fixed it.
4. If not, as a last result, after backing up your app data, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.
5. Make sure it's the most up to date version from the play store.
6. If you have a custom recovery, you could try to fix permissions from TWRP or CWM.
7. Shout loudly at it and make threatening gestures. :silly:
I'll install it and see if I can reproduce the problem.
EDIT: Installed it and was able to upload profile photo without problem. Sorry.
Really appreciate the advice, I really do. None of it has worked though!

Bugger. I wonder if it's not WhatsApp, but your gallery app that's the issue? Have you tried using something like QuickPic perhaps? Just a thought...

Wahey! Perhaps I should've mentioned that from the start so apologies there.
Ordered a Sandisk 8GB Micro SD yesterday anyhow for £5.50 which I thought was a good price. Apparently, originally £18 or so.
Mine doesn't work either on my Company Wifi. Interesting part is that Windows Phone, Blackberry folks can upload and send photos without a prob. Just the android clients are having this problem.

Hey. I started encountering the same problem. I cant change my profile picture and i cant send pics to anyone. I am using a custom rom on my sgs4 and i WAS using whatsapp reborn when this problem occurred. Even after switching to the original one didn't solve the issue. I reinstalled the rom, reinstalled whatsapp after clearing all the date and cache. But nothing seems to work. Any ideas why this is happening?

What's the deal with this phone not giving notifications? I don't get half of my text notifications even if I use Go SMS and the pop up feature. Any ideas? I have the apps protected from sleeping so I'm at a loss.
Happening to me also with gmail and Google Voice.
Yeah its kind of ridiculous. Does this thing deep sleep that much that it doesn't allow the notifications or what? If its a bug in their version of JB then this thing is going back for a refund since we're not getting any updates.

I had the same problem a little over a month ago.
The solution that worked for me was to find a twrp from someone not having the issue, (someone has posted one on this forum already).
Pull your most recent twrp to your PC. Open their twrp with clean system file, copy three files related to system backup over your system files in your twrp.
Put your twrp backup back to your SD card and restore from it.
I had the same problem you guys are having and this solved it. Hangouts was the only app still broken after and it barely even mattered to me.

I had the same problem
My gmail email were not getting pushed. The reason was is the phone was not reporting to apps that it had a interenet connection. Check your google now search page. At the top it will say no interet connection. even though you are connected. I had one twrp image that was connected to the internet but on the lock screen it said no service. I had one good twrp backup that I used and got it to where I am some one pleased with it. If you modify too much stuff in that build.prop that might be the casue or if you have renamed the provider folder in your cust folder that might be the cause or if you mess up you local.prop file that might be the cause. I'm only guessing on those from the things that I have tried.
