I had the exact same problem, and I had to hard reset everytime, but as soon as I would press the end key it would be unresponsive. What I learned is that right after you hard reset you should only try waking pressing other keys than the end key and let it go to sleep by itself. Also did you use any EVO android builds, or Android at all, not sure if it's relevant, but that's where it all went wrong for me with the EVO build. I do find it quite odd that quite a few people are experiencing the same thing with the touchscreen and it also seems that there really isn't a solution to this. I had to send it in for a repair, and it got fixed pretty quick. Perhaps this needs to be investigated more.
i have same problem with my htc hd2
it is so annoying. i will send to repair service too..
hey i have the same problem too ! did you installed the new c0okies home tab ? because i did and after that it start it messing up.. well i did a thread yesterday about this.. the only responses i got was to send it back to repair. I just did not turn off the screen for nothing today during the whole school day it almost finisihed the whole day, it last it me about 6 hours without turning off the screen, otherwise the touchscreen becomes unresponsive.
Temporary fix/test
I just fixed it temporarily, i fixed it by taking off the battery cover and pressing down on the htc logo (below lcd) and pressure on both the front and back of the phone where the htc logo is.
if you do this and it fixes it, you most likely have a dodgy lcd/digitiser flex ribbon cable.
I know there are hundreds of threads and articles posted about HD2s freezing with the lock screen but this issue seems different to me. My problem is that whenever I lock the phone the touch screen will freeze entirely. I thought a work around may be to install a different lock screen. After installing that I can get past the lock screen but the touch screen still is not responsive. I have no idea what to do. I already did a hard reset and it still does it. I would like to add that it is completely consistent. It happens every time without fail. In order to even use the phone I have to pull the battery and I get one use out of it before it locks and I have to pull the battery again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it..
Update: I flashed the original ROM to my phone and the freezing problem still exists.. I have no idea what to do at this point.
Update 2: Narrowed down the problem to being the physical "power/end/lock" button. If I slightly press it but not fully it will go to the honeycomb style menu with all the apps. If I press it fully the screen will go out like normal but then if I restore it, the entire screen is locked up. Nothing will work after that until I pull the battery.
I've directly linked the issue with the power button. I dont know why all of a sudden the power button would have a different function. The work around I found is while the phone is locked and the screen is off I can press the green button to unlock the phone and the touch screen will then function. If I use the power button it will remain frozen. Any ideas what happened?
Hello,
I got some bad news for you, this issue is actually related to the digitizer (hardware) not software. What i would recommend is called HTC for a repair and send it in, it is covered by warranty, hopefully you have warranty.
A lot of people are having this issue, no-one yet has been able to pinpoint the cause, but here is the link a thread with similar problem:

Thanks for the reply. I do not think I have a warranty on this phone considering I bought it privately. Ill talk to Tmo and HTC and see what I can do. Just a theory, I may be wrong. But I live in PA and its been getting below 20 here lately. I noticed today that my work around didnt work when I was outside working on my car. Then I went inside and used a blow dryer to heat up the phone and it started working again. The end button didn't function properly but I could unlock the phone with the green send button. Perhaps the cold weather is shorting out people's digitizers? I don't really know how they work so that's why i said its only a theory. I bought this phone in the spring and didnt have an issue until now when it started getting really cold.
Hi guys,
I bought a second hand mini pro, and flashed (rooted, unlocked bootloader)it with the help of one of the several guides. with Simplexity and MiniCM7
It seemed to work fine at first, but now something odd happens.
I can only turn the device on (working) when I keep the keyboard slided out. When I start up with it slided in, The screen is turned on but no image appears: It stays black.
When it is turned on (slided out) I can use the phone normally. But when I slide it back in, the screen is frozen and won't react to touches.
Putting the phone in and out of standby (slided out) will have two possible outcomes: Either its usable as normal. Or it simply won't come out of standby at all. The phone seems to react (sounds) to pressing the buttons on the keyboard though.
I used Seus and manual methods to reflash to stock, try other kernels, but the problems remain.
I think it's the hardware that's failing but maybe this can be caused by the flashing as well?
Are there any methods to rule out one or the other?

I'm responding to the thread's title : It's a hardware failure.Brick means you can't even power it on/flash mode.If I helped click the "Thanks" button. Also, try using nAa-11 my and x10man's ROM called XMP Rom and tell us if you still have this problem.I understand that you posted this here (If you post it in questions section almost no one will respond )so I won't tell about that.
(Oh, my bad. Mods feel free to move my thread)
I was afraid of that. I'll try your ROM as well, but I'm afraid its the hardware too.
Thankfully I only paid 30 euros for it
I think the flex cable is gone bad, i have the same problem here. My mobile doesnt respond to any touches. First it happened only when i would slide the keyboard. But now its dead as a whole

The XMP rom didn't fix it, so I guess you're right. Would a flex cable (those are the flat orange ones right?) be expensive?

I hope you fix it
This is the cable we are having a problem with, i have given my mobile for replacing this stuff as i couldnt get this locally. This board houses the LCD and the digitizer and the buttons connect to this. The black cable goes to the motherboard. Its pretty simple to take apart the phone, but take care while doing so. Another thing its that, when you are opening the display panel, its better to use a guitar pick instead of a screwdriver and open it at the latches, that would avoid damage to the outer plastics.

Hi, first sorry for my english, I hope that it will be clear enough to understand my problem...
My Xperia Ray, updated to ICS, display a black screen (with backlight) when waking up after a stand by. I have to wait for undertermined time to have something on the screen, sometimes I remove the battery and boot the phone to be able to use it.
I updated it to last 4.0.4 ICS thinking it will resolve the issue, but it has not.
I can still use the phone when connected to MyPhone Explorer with the phone keypad, while the mobile's screen is black the MPE windows shows me the "normal" mobile screen. Everythings else works normally.
I'm afraid to give it to customer service, it was a SFR branded phone and I flashed it with a generic firmware.
Locked bootloader, sfr gave me unlock code for sim cards, lost my root with last upadte too.
Any help ?
Did it also occur on Gingerbread firmware?
Didn't try with GB, it happened when on ICS .562, SEUS update to .431 didn't fix the problem.
I have the same problem with my Xperia Ray.
It already happened on GB and now also on ICS.
The screen stays black if you try to wake it up after standby (doesn't matter if power button or home button ).
This happens around 80% of the time.
The only things that help are: Waiting a few minutes, taking out the battery, or hitting the power button like crazy and eventually the screen will show up again after around 10 times on and off.
I brought my phone to the service center of the shop 3 times and every time they tell me they won't repair or switch it because the hardware looked fine in their opinion (they don't switch it on there, the one time I showed them the switched on phone with the error, they told me they could see the problem but as long as nothing inside is broken 'it's not their problem' . I told my lawyer and now he is trying to get me a replace phone.
The problem even comes right after you factory reset so I don't think it's an app.
It happens without the sd card in.
I had an different homescreen launcher installed around the time it first happened, but I removed it and it still happened and I factory reseted and it still happened. So I think it has nothing to do with that?
I tried software repair with the SE Update Service and it told me everything was alright.
Does someone around here have an idea what could be the cause?
I brought it to SFR customer service (here in france) 2 time, the 2 time they just downgrade it to GB, diagnostic was "update problem". They didn't take in consideration what I told them.
One of the shop employee told me that the third time normally they have to replace it by another one. If they don't want to change it I think I'll mess up their shop...
This even happens on Xperia Mini
when ever i try to wake it up by pressing Home button or Power button
it takes about 3-5 seconds to wakeup
it should be instant isn't it?
I also experienced 2 times that even pressing
all the buttons doesn't wakes up the screen
but only back light, then i have to restart the
phone by removing the battery.:crying:
Me too !
I have tha same problem !! I can't take it esay..It's bad thing in my Idea! very disgusting :crying:
I've got the same delays on my Lww, sometimes my phone doesn't wake up at all, and sometimes it takes several seconds. I haven't found any solution for it, but it seems to be a Sony-specific problem.
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
I have also the same problem from some days
tried to reset all with flashtool with no luck
the problem is also during kernel loading, tried different kernel, logo and cw doesn't appear 90%times
if someone is able to read in logcat file I have attached one here
thanks for any help
me also
i also have the same problem with my xperia x10
bad news for all of us.....

I turned the sound for messages and phone calls back on. On 'silent' the phone just vibrated.
It hasnt fixed the problem of the black screen completely, but it is happening a lot less for me.
Finally I brought my Xperia Ray to the shop where I got it for the third time.
I bought it 159 Euros in december 2011 (plus Sony gave me 50E back) and they refunded 270 Euro in november 2012 !
Not exactly a refund because I had to choose another mobile, so I took the Xperia T which was 430euro, so I had to pay 160 E for the XT.
Good deal for replacement of a one year old mobile ! Only problem is that I can't unlock the BL.
It is a strange hardware problem since the screen can eventually be turned back on, so maybe it is something in the firmware that is screwed up and doesn't get completely fixed by SUS. If I were you guys I would try this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492805
It may not work, but it is better than throwing your Ray in the trash.
I have the same problem. My phone (xperia ray) after standby or after reboot has black screen with backlight. At first waiting for couple of seconds and trying to wakelock would solve the problem, after few weeks to wake up my phone I needed it to reboot (pulling out the battery). Now I need few reboots to start the device with screen on.
I found workarounds like Llama combined with Nightclock (both from Google Play) for the screen never goes off, but this eats battery and also sometimes the screen would go off. I don't believe its a hardware problem because with this workaround the phone is usable few days (until Llama delay the "events").
Found a way to make a logcat from starting the device. Two are for unsuccessful startups (black screen with backlight) and one for successful (screen on).
I think the problem is in the kernel for not loading drivers, but someone who knows to read logcat will tell us/me for sure. I can't flash new kernel because the phone is with Bootloader locked (Bootloader unlock allowed: NO).
Kernel version is 2.6.32.9-perf
Stock Rom 4.1.B.0.587
rooted
PS. Sorry for my english its not my native language.
Just to add one or two more informations: even with black screen and backlight the phone is usable, like I can answer on calls, it vibrates when I slide to unlock... I also thought the problem is in proximity sensor, but if it was that case the touchscreen would be locked.
If you fully discharge the battery and after switch on,it start normally?

I never tried full discharge of battery. I will try that and post the result.
Hello! So my Xperia Mini pro has been broken, it doesn't show any image anymore, I think there is a problem with the screen but I want a confirmation or recommendation to find out what the problem is.
First the screen "touch" capability stopped working, and then two weeks after that, the back and option buttons stopped working too. And a week after that ,there was like a screen "flickering" (I tried to recreate the problem in the attached image) when I tried to either open or close the slider.
Finally the screen stopped working anymore. I tried to connect the phone to the PC but says that windows cannot recognize the hardware. And there's one more thing: I can turn on the phone, it vibrates, but the keyboard lights seems that are not working, they are permanently off.. and when I try to Increase the volume it doesn't sound either... There is only the black screen and a backlight.
Please Help me to find out what is the problem, I'm thinking to buy a screen replacement on eBay, but some people told me that is the "flex" cable. I'm not sure if there is a fix for my phone's problem.
Thanks!
Hey there.
Based on my experience, yes, your problem is most likey a flex ribbon issue. Your flex has been ripping apart lately, causing many of its wires to break. This can cause a lot of unpredictable problems, such as a misbeheaving notification LED, inactive ambient light sensor, or "dead" display/touch digitizer. Your problems have gotten worse over time, which is clearly a symptom of a broken flex.
You phone is no longer booting up to android because the kernel no longer detects a proper "response" from the display driver and halts the bootup. This is why you can feel the phone vibrating when pressing the power button, but nothing else happens. Your screen assembly is fine, I can assure you that, unless your glass is broken, of course.
Here's one hell of a good teardown guide: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Sony+Ericsson+Xperia+Mini+Pro+SK17i+Teardown/7275
I used that very same guide when I repaired my own xmp. I regret messing with my screen assembly because I destroyed it and had to buy a new one, which is costly
Thank You so much for the advice ! Now I'll try to repair it, It doesn't seem too difficult. Thank You Again!!!
