Is the brightness bug fixed on 5.1.1 ? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Edge got updated to 5.1.1 two hours ago and I was wondering if that fixed the brightness bug. I mean, it kinda looks like it did, I've been playing around with it a bit but I'm still not sure. What about other people with 5.1.1 ?
Edit: Everything feels a bit sluggish now.

Welcome to the update that ruins the phone
I tried wiping data and restoring as some have said...but still crap.
What had made an improvement though is to download the firmware and flash it again via odin. Seems a bit better now.

Can't tell if sarcasm or if the update really makes things worse.
Also yeah, the brightness bug has been fixed. The battery's at 4% and I tried shining a flashlight on the phone, the screen doesn't get brighter.
Aaand they fixed Ok Google VS Hi Galaxy too.

Not sarcasm mate from where I'm standing. Really a bad update for me. The battery can hardly get me through 8 hours now and 3hrs sot if I'm lucky
From 8:30am ...down to 35% 2:15sot...light use today too

There's definitely something wrong with the battery but it's always been like that. I can't tell if it's better or worse than my Nexus 4's. It's definitely not as good as I thought it would be.

I was getting 12-15hrs note down to 8-9hrs....this update screwed my phone is my thoughts

Try performing one or two full charge cycles.
And check if an app's draining Your battery.
I've also noticed that I only always have around 700-800 MBs of RAM available out of those sweet, sweet 3gbs.

1.5GBs.. taken by touchwiz.. ?
.. SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNG

That's why the put 3gb because with only 2gb the phone will freeze for lacking of memory lol

I WAS WRONG. THE BUG HAS -NOT- BEEN FIXED.
I TRIED REPLICATING AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS. THE NORMAL MAXIMUM (SLIDER ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT) BRIGHTNESS IS ACTUALLY A BIT LESS BRIGHT THAN THE TRUE FULL BRIGHTNESS (BUT BRIGHTER THAN BEFORE). IF YOU SHINE A TORCH ON THE SENSOR NOW IT WILL **** WITH THE AUTOBRIGHTNESS WHICH WILL BE STUCK ON FULL BRIGHTNESS AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS REBOOTING.
Basically:
Normal full brightness: Still not really full brightness but still brighter than 5.0.2
Torch trick: Will disable autobrightness until You reboot, it will be stuck on the TRUE full brightness. (I tested the sensor and it actually ISN'T stuck on Level 5)
EDIT: I WAS WRONG.
IT HASN'T BEEN FIXED AT ALL. I THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED THIS MORNING BUT IT'S GETTING DARK OUTSIDE AND GUESS WHAT ? SCREEN'S NOT ON AUTOBRIGHTNESS AND IT'S DARK AS HELL.

And so.. It begins. Everything got a whole lot laggier all of a sudden.

Download and flash the firmware with odin. Seems to get rid of the lag. Dunno what they done with the ota update

Do I have to do anything before that ? Also, can I do that without setting off some counter/losing everything ? It's been a long time since I've used Odin. And I'd need some links too.
Turning the screen on definitely takes longer btw.

Don't need to wipe just a straight flash. Download odin 3.10. There's a mega link for firmware on another thread on here

So it won't set off any counters either in case I need to return my device/send it to Samsung ?
Also, all these sites offering Odin dowloads seem a bit.. Suspicious. And I can't find my model on the thread: SM-G925F (H3G ITALY)

It won't set of the counter. When i get on the computer I'll attach odin if someone hadn't done so by then. It will be after midnight though
Use XEO firmware.

So I can just get that and turn my H3G-branded Italian Edge and turn it into an unbranded UK Edge ?
It's seriously been like 3 years since I've had anything to do with Samsung devices.
Also, can I flash the branded H3G firmware when it's available and turn it back to "normal" ?

UK Rom

Hi guys. Just picked up my sgs3 yesterday coming from s2.
I got it from t-mobile store. I think it's unbranded. Not seen anything t-mobile related.
I updated firmware via kies yesterday as there was an update available.
Is this the latest firmware for unbranded phones in UK via official channels ?
Also. Are the stock roms on here a massive improvement or are they buggy?
Cheers

If you got it from a t-mobile store, it will be t-mobile branded. Phones from phones4u and carphone warehouse are unbranded
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thats what I would expect, however there are no T-Mobile apps, no t-mobile logo in boot animation. To clarify when I say T-Mobile store, it was one of those Everything Everywhere T-Mobile/Orange stores, I believe all stores will be that soon?
Lfb is the latest European firmware. Easy to spot because it has a brightness slider in the notification tray.
The firmware has only been released a couple of days now so you might not get it straight away. Plenty of ways to download it here on xda though.

Hmmm ... don't know about that one. They should both be subdirectories of the phone itself ... not drive letters as the phone uses mtp not traditional mass storage.
By the way are you flashing with Odin?

[Q] Screen Issues (Pixelation) (Updated)

Hi guys.
I came to realise that some S3 also suffer from black crush like the Note. So I went to try playing the Glee video , the screen went very bad and almost the whole screen is pixelated from 0.36-0.38 (lightings). It's not really black crush but rather bluish white blocks occur on lightings.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cay2dnuhcs
When there's transitions from white to gray, gray to black and vice versa is bad, there are also pixelated blocks there. (last attachment)
Here are some example photos,
*These are on full brightness
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The bluish white blocks are too ugly to see. I've compared with the iPhone 4S and the iPhone seems to handle the lightings very well in full brightness(no obvious blocks)
Brightness does the trick too, when I lower the brightness to under 40%, the blocks are not as visible but once I go higher than that, ugly scenes show up again.
supercurio tweeted that there's already a solution for this but I must root my phone to get it fixed. I'm pretty sure that it's not a hardware issue because there's an app that temporarily fix this issue but it may harm my screen as the app itself warned me. The app is "Filter My Screen".
I hope there's a firmware update that will solve this problem so that I don't need to root my phone just to get this fixed.
Helps are appreciated.
Regards
See all the other black crush posts .
jje
I looked through most of the posts about black crush already. I don't think that my issue is black crush, but I could be wrong.
Can someone tell me if the problem I'm having is black crush or this is totally normal?

Maybe you'd get an answer if your pictures actually showed up.... just saying..
Are the pictures not visible?
I re-attached the pictures to show the pixelation issue.
* I came to realise that the app "Filter your screen" does help with the Pixelation issue significantly, but not perfectly.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Hmm. No pixelation issues here.
Could someone explain about the bluish blocks? It's really ugly compared to the iPhone 4S.
For the gray image, you can see the transition from light gray to dark gray, the blocks are visible too.

It could possibly be a low quality version of the video. How is the screen when you perform other tasks? When using the phone to watch youtube check if HQ is enabled and if watching over 3G or HSPA network make sure that 'High Quality over mobile' is enabled.

I've tried all normal quality, HQ and HD quality, the pixelated blocks are still there, even on a 6000 x 4000 image, once there's transition from white to gray, gray to black or vice versa, ugly blocks will appear.
I've tested the gamma calibration with the "21-0 image", I am able to see a gradual fade from 21 to 7 only, 0-7 is pure black.
Help please?

Could be a defect with your phone. You could also try flashing a newer firmware and see if that fixes the problem.
I'm on LF1 now. It's already the newest firmware here in Malaysia if I'm not wrong?
Well, I'm able to get a significant 'fix' by using the "Filter your screen" app, but it's not perfect and it may harm my screen if I use it in a long time frame. So I guess it's not a hardware issue?
Is there any good solution for this?
Helps are appreciated.

[Q] Verizon model firmware issues with used phone

I appreciate all of your assistance in advance... I have searched and can't find any topics on this issues yet.

I installed Kies today and it is telling me my device current firmware version is NOT supported and I can't update the firmware.

Can I root and then upload a standard Firmware to the phone? I can't take this phone back to Verizon since I didn't buy it from them. Everything on the phone works just fine, but i keep getting this to pop up over and over
which is tied to this (demo main button that give me no option to forceclose or uninstall)
and VZW demo in lower right

I dont think I would be takeing this in to verizon, I dont think whomever you bought this phone from aquired it legally. That is definitly an in store demo phone, and im pretty sure they arnt going to sell anybody an in store demo version.

I activated the phone at the Verizon (not a re-seller) store to make sure it was clean.. so no issues there that popped up.
Definitely an in store demo can you say stolen lol

As stated, phone activated at Verizon store.. Not listed as stolen.
Get Rom Toolbox from market and you can freeze and uninstall that. Also search for a stock rom and flash over it after being rooted.

I understand that but was stolen from store or was employees that had app. Just because its stolen from a Verizon store doesn't mean you can't activate it lots have active numbers or clean esn unactivated

There is an app in the play store:
Galaxy S4 Retail Mode
It States, "This application is intended solely for retail display"
I'm wondering if this may have been installed?
I would try doing a factory reset first and see if that takes care of it.

I would flash the stock firmware in Odin. Someone else had this issue with a different phone and that solved the problem.

I will look up odin (or if you have a link to it that would be awesome!!) .. to be honest I rooted my old Bionic when I first got it almost 2 years ago, but I haven't done a ROM swap before.
When I do a Rom file does that also update the firmware?
Found the Odin link

Worked perfect!! I ran it twice, and then connected to Kies and gave me the latest firmware update...before it would tell me it wasn't compatible.
Thank you so much!!

No worries, I thought I'd better let you know.
No really, I used to get the same sort of thing on my M7 but it was only one large purple dot and disappeared after a few months
Is it just three x 1 pixels or are the larger than that?

Sounds like stuck pixels you could try a few of these techniques
From the research I did on this, the best way was to Vibrate the whole device very fast but with a small amount of movement. (Kind of like how a hair trimmer vibrates , small amount but very fast)
Also when we have RAW ability they will be even less noticeable .
Duno if this info will help . but I would try for an exchange if you are unable to fix/live with these blue pixels.

My phone comes with 2 years warranty and Has 2 different warranty. One from Samsung Middle East and Another one from the company I bought it from.
