After the latest update, it seems like "Touch to save" option has disappeared in Google keyboard. This really makes the process of saving new words to the dictionary painful. We need to select the word click on Add to dictionary and then Ok to save any new word which is a tiresome process.
If anyone had found an easier way to save new words to the Google keyboard dictionary easily, please post that solution here. By the way, double clicking the word also doesn't work. My device is moto g and I believe this is a common issue for any device.
No answers at all? I thought I'll get help on xda
Same here CM 12.1
I too am getting this issue plus I cannot even sync my personal dictionary from the other mobile. Had loads of words saved there. Plus, the AOSP keyboard is doing the same, nothing. Wonder when will it fix. Is it just an installation problem?
Okay, so its been months and I don't think things would go good. The only thing I could do was to install SwiftKey and so far, the experience has not been disappointing, great actually. It does all that Google keyboard does (and did),and more .

Sometimes, when the keyboard can't find internet connection your words will not appear in the suggestions. I think this happens because all the words are in cloud not on the phone itself.
Well, my phone is almost always connected to the internet, so that should not be a problem. Anyways, I haven't tried the latest, GBoard, so I can't really say if it has been fixed.

Hey all, I know a lot of you were complaining about how slow Google Now is when you open it, and I actually found how to speed it up quite a bit. First, load up Google Now and go into Settings > Voice > Hotword detection and uncheck it. I guess if it doesn't have to 'listen' for you to say Google it will initialize MUCH faster. Hope this helped.
Cool...
Dramatically faster...
Not that i like to use it,,, but i do accidently hit it a lot,,, ,,, so now i can at least exit out faster!

This helps even when Now is turned off. I never use it, just regular Google search, and even that started really slow. But if u uncheck the hotword box, it makes regular search load faster too. Thx yo!!

Well that was a helpful tip! Thanks!
EDIT: Also, I've noticed that unchecking the "block offensive words" box makes text entry within Google Now less laggy.
EDIT2: Nevermind, I think that was just a placebo effect.
Thanks a lot for this

When i install apps from computer its not installing in mobile but installing when i install through phone.. Now how to resolve this problem.??
Thanks !!! helped the loading a lot
I don't use Google Now but this was a very helpful tip. Always up for extra speed even if its just a little bit
Thank you so much for this. I disabled Google Now for a while because of how laggy it was. Who knew it was because of one simple check -_-
Thanks
I was afraid I'd have to disable Google Now, but when I made the suggested change, my free memory went from 20mb to 120mb and so far the phone is back to its old speed.

Mine does the same thing. After it updated to Jellybean it appears as a different phone to the Google play Store (this is according to Google Support). If this is what has happened to you, when you go to install from the computer you should be able to pick from a couple of different phones both with the same name over where it says that the app is compatible with your phone. Even though it may show 2 phones and especially if it doesn't, the Play Store through the computer does not recognize your phone. If you use it from the phone it is connected and has no problem. Google informed me that they cannot delete any device from your account once it is there. So when I got a warranty replacement I now have both listed under their different IMEIs. Then when you do a complete upgrade like JB, it no longer sees the phone. I don't know what it uses to find the phone, but whatever it is it cannot locate it after the update and thus you have to use the phone to do any install of an app from the Play Store.
Now I can't say this is your problem, but this is what happened to me and I talked to Google Support to find out everything I have told you. Maybe one day they will take into account major updates and make it so that they can locate your phone for an install when using the computer. Until then I have to use the phone to install anything.
Yesterday, Android 4.4 KitKat was release along with the brand new Nexus 5. Since the HTC Droid DNA will not be getting 4.4 for awhile, here is the brand new Google Experience Launcher!

I have replace Nova Launcher with the Google Experience Launcher as my daily driver. It is just that amazing. Good job GOOGLE! :highfive:
How is it?
How has it been? Should I uninstall Nova Prime first? Is there a way to get rid of this launcher if I needed to? Any information you can pass along woudl be very helpful. I just do not want to brick or ruin my phone.Thank you!

Yeah no problems here. Download those three apps, push them to SYSTEM/APP, change permissions then reboot. You can have as many launchers installed as you like. I'd suggest leaving Nova. Try the New Google, if you don't like it just go into system/apps and delete the 3apps that you pushed to that folder. No biggie.

Just follow the above instructions and Google now should work properly.
I love this launcher! Yeah... the icons are a little bit too big, but its seamless integration into Google now has sold me.
google now works flawlessly for me, it's the launcher that is messing up...

I guess I should have pointed out I'm on CM10.2, 10/29. I've had it all day have not had a problem yet. But with the icons being so big it makes it seem that oys cheaper looking. Idk.how to explain.
Maybe if we could get the 4.4 icons it would be different. I'm sure a cyan theme is just around the corner anyway.

Hey guys,
I really wanted the "Ok Google" from home like I have on my Nexus. After doing this, you can press the home button to wake the device up and then simply say "ok google, remind me to talk to my boss when I get to work". It takes specific versions of the apps to make this work and I located a combination that wiill do the job.
You will need:
Google Play Store installed
Google Search installed from Play Store.
A copy of ADB
Installation
Un-tar.gz this file with whatever program you use for file compression, to a folder called "GoogleLauncher"
Navigate to the "GoogleLauncher" folder,
Using your copy of ADB, type "adb remount", then "adb push *.apk /system/app"
Go to Settings>System>Accessibility>Quick Boot and disable Quick Boot
Reboot your watch.
Conclusion
This worked for me. If you're having problems or you'd like this turned into an app you can download and press a button to perform the tasks above, let me know.

On my S2, Google Now is both part of the Google Launcher and Google Search. For those of us running Loki's EnSec + Operative, does the Google Launcher below replace SmartLauncher as the home action? In other words, are we giving up SmartLauncher / WP8 Launcher / OUI2.0 to get Google Now?

What about making it a flashable zip? Operative includes TWRP, so we should be able to flash system APKs.

Jaskru, I was wondering the same thing. I did what you suggest above back in February, and the OK Google launcher has been an option ever since. Works better than typing, for most stuff.
I am otherwise on unrooted stock, though I do not suggest others use their TrueSmarts unpatched at all.

I remember when we were first trying to do it before Loki came out with the patch + operative we had to push services (velvet.apk) as a system app... Now, when you get the device and install Loki's patch (+operative I think) or Dees rom that has that stuff in it too you have the up to date velvet.apk as a system app. And, of course you need the search.apk too.
That's where I was coming from. If someone is going to try and push an apk as a system app, they may as well just run Loki's script instead. Thanks for sharing though.
Hey @AdamOutler, Have you seen any differences with the battery life? Thanks for the Post, I got it setup the first try. I was just curious as to what I should expect?
Update: For a simple launcher, this is pretty nice. The apps and the drawer fit nicer then Apex did, even with a ton of setup. Smart launcher is nicer than apex, but there's a lot of setup as well. I just launched the Now launcher and it just worked. My apps look nice and the drawer is clear and easy to read. Now all i want is for my watch to do the notifications like the android wear demo!
you need a computer to run this correct? for the adb part of it? any change you guys can post a screenshot of your launcher so i could see how it looks prior to installing it later when i get home. been switching between nova and wplauncher8
Thanks,

Stop trolling my thread. You're wrong and now you're looking for loopholes. No, its not in the operative patch. I don't create threads for no reason. Judging by your Post to Thanks ratio, you post unhelpful comments like this one all the time. Just stop it. You're being unhelpful, cluttering the thread, and adding misleading information.

It just looks like a standard Nexus AOSP launcher with a 4x4 grid. It's small, but usable.
Wasn't trying to troll Adam. Was just participating. Guess it was just magic then for me when I flashed the patch and dl and installed the apk with no issues. Sorry for sharing my experience with you.
Is anyone getting a substantial amount of google search crashes since setting this up?
I have been using Google Now as one of my three alternative launchers for over a month. It has never crashed. I say, "OK Google.....launch Tapatalk" and it does. "OK Google....call susan" and it asks me whether to use Phone or Skype (Skype started working for me on the TS after some recent update), then places the call.
To enable this, I followed the same guide I used to get Google Now onto my Nexus4 before KitKat was released for it. Best I can remember I just side loaded a couple of apk's using a guide on some android web site like Android Police maybe. It just worked, appearing as a launcher option with the other two I already had in place.
All this was on my stock insecure unpatched 1/8/1900 with the shipping 20140120 firmware and Google Play side loaded as usual.
I've got screencaps ! They are on the TS though, and I cannot type on that thing hardly still.

Same issue on stock Nexus 5. Saying "remind me to do X when I get home" or "when I get to work" have completely stopped working. (They've worked fine for more than a year) I can still specify home or work when I add a reminder manually, so Google hasn't lost my location settings.
Glad I'm not the only one. Seems like a bug, or they've decided to remove this feature. (I really, really hope they haven't.)

Something else I noticed: Go into Google Maps and remove your home address, then try "remind me to (something) when I get home." You'll be asked to set your home address, then the reminder will be saved correctly. Unfortunately, the next reminder won't work.
This makes me think it's a bug. It's still interpreting "when I get home" correctly, it's just choking when it tries to actually use your address.
Hopefully this is affecting everyone so they notice it quickly.
I've posted it on the Google products forum and 2 other people are reporting it.

It seems this is a widespread issue with trying to set reminder for Home or Work locations with voice or text searches.
Google are apparently aware of the issues - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!searchin/en/google$20now/websearch/_Y0QQKclsIg/edp6sl_wWdcJ
hope we get a fix soon.
I've been posting on that Google Product forum thread regarding this matter. It occurs on my OnePlus One, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7. Interestingly, when you say, "navigate to home", it recognizes the home location and works as expected. It's only for location reminders.

Ever since I bought this phone (Pixel 6) the assistant has never worked. Considering this is a Google phone, one would assume it would work no issue but joke is firmly on me!
I have been researching and have seen mixed messages from many websites where some users have the issue, others no issue! I have seen some people say to reinstall the Google App (tried this, didn't work) and other people said to completely restore to factory which I don't want to considering the hassle of getting everything back in order.
Does anybody have anything else I might be able to try?
Thanks in advance

I did open it just now and tried to use the assistant with it and it didn't crash immediately. You might be on to something.
Maybe I am missing something though, if it was a browser based issue, why would that impact my ability to open say Spotify or "check the weather".
Maybe it's some other Google system/service I am after breaking?

I have tried the Brave browser a few months back for a short time.
Side note; I use Brave browser on my pc, because edge gives me trouble with networking for my smarthome devices and nas.
I am also having this issue after rooting and modding a few things. Reverted the changes but I am still having the issue. Updating Google App and downloading Google Assistant doesn't seem to do the trick either. Anyone with some insight into the issue know what's going on?
quick update - I installed Alexa to see if that would work, and it too doesn't appear to like me
Starting to think its a service based issue instead of a particular app.
Anybody who has guidance please chime in
Are you completely stock, no custom rom, kernel, Magisk mods?
Alexa will increase your four letter vocabulary to a new level.
Do you have the assistant set to more than 1 language? For me having the assistant set to English and dutch causes it to constantly.
I figured out for me it was dozing google play services
so, update on this. Firstly, I only have it using the one language.
Secondly, I got an update yesterday for the google app from the playstore and it appears to have fixed whatever the problem was!
