[Q] [QUESTION]CyanogenMod - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I install CyanogenMod with Odin?,I have got files but CyanogenMod is in .zip file but Odin3 doesn't accept .zip Can I change .zip to .tar

Can't recall that you can flash ZIP's tru ODIN, you should flash a recovery / boot file trough ODIN, then copy your ROM to your SDCARD or Internal Memory and boot into recovery, where you can flash .zip files (like Roms)....
To convert your .img files to tar.md5 (ODIN compatible) go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269 and follow the thread steps.

Now I have got Another Problem.I use TWRP recovery to install CyanogenMod but when i want to wipe there is two data options.Last Time I Selected two of these and i deleted Internal Storage + CyanogenMod's file + Android.I don't want to brick my phone again

WIpe only these : Dalvik-cache, Cache, Data, and System
Don't wipe or format: Boot, Recovery or Internal / External Memory.

The Internal Storage wipe option wiped your ROM file btw, just so you understand, the Internal Storage actually goes back to factory and deletes everything which wasn't there when you bought it.

Hmm that's awkward... Wait a sec plz, you can choose the dalvik cache, cache and system allready. After that imma tell you which data should be chosen to wipe too
---------- Post added at 12:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:35 AM ----------
Ok so it should only be the first Data, button, the fourth is internal storage, which shouldn't be wiped
As shown here http://cdn.droidviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/nexus-5-twrp-wipe-options.jpg

Ok I am started to wipe

Thank You Very Much!My Problem is solved

What do the instructions say ????
Cut and paste missed .
NOW V8
You need:
Samsung Galaxy S3
Custom Recovery
How to flash:
Download ROM and place it on your virtual SD card
Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)
Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol up + home + power)
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of "Super Wipe" script
Once again select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of Android Revolution ROM
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device
jje
Ok thanks !
I was a bit hesitating !
can you explain the part "virtual sd card" ? I can simply put the rom in the internal memory of my galaxy s3 right ?

No on the external sdcard, your internal sdard will be wiped if using superwipe script.

Redownload the rom, you may have a corrupt file.
Reroot the phone with CF-Root, wich will install CWM5. See item 1 in my signature for the how to.
Just do the following:
Place the ARHD rom on the external sdcard
Go in recovery and perform a wipe: data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache, format system, cache and data in mounts and storage
Skip the superwipe
Select the ARHD rom to flash
Once in the Aroma installer, choose wipe and backup efs folder, don`t select any tweaks for now and flash.
Choose fix permission and reboot, and you`re done mate
Thanks

[Q] Recovery of Pictures from a soft brick

Hi everyone,
I have an S2 phone international edition. I made a stupid error of installing clockworkmod on my phone before extracting my photos and music. Now the phone is stuck in boot loop animation. I tried flashing other roms, like cyanogen - same thing, stuck in bootloop. My cwm is 6.0.1.2. The phone can boot into recovery just fine. I backed up my contacts to an sdcard, but I need to get my photos out before doing a factory reset. So now I need to mount the internal storage on my PC via usb and drag out these pictures. The cwm usb mount is not recognised by my computer, but the pc does see the device. I have tried installing kies for drivers - same thing. Can someone advice me on an external way to unblock phone internal memory and mount it on pc? I heard there are ADW browsers, but I don't know how to input commands in them. Thanks for any help offered.
PS: Perhaps there is a way to remove the cwm without wiping all data?
factory reset will not wipe your photos, music, docs etc... so dont worry

But just to clarify, the pictures are stored on internal memory. Will they remain safe after doing a wipe data?
yes all int sd and ext sd stuff will be as it is...
and did you wipe delvik cache & cache???
---------- Post added at 05:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 PM ----------
you will lose only apps, sms, call logs... you may take backup from recovery also

So after wiping and hopefully installing a new rom successfully - how do i recover calls, sms and contacts backed up to cwm?

You can't. Call logs, sms text messages and apps+data which you haven't backed up with Titanium Backup are lost.
Try to do a full wipe, and then flash a new rom. Pictures, documents etc. will not be touched.

[Q] Flashing Omega rom gone wrong!

Hi there,
I've recently decided to do a bit of a clean up and upgrade my ROM from Omega v36 to v39. However from the Official site, I noticed it went from Omega I9300 XXELLA to Omega I9300 XXEMA1. I didn't think this would be a problem as they were both for the GS3 I9300 which is what mine is.
I followed these steps posted on a site:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe the cache partition
3. Go to advanced and wipe dalvik and batt stats.
3.5 Do factory reset to wipe my data. <---This I did myself as I wanted a fresh install.
4. Go back to mounts and storage and format system, then data, then cache.
5. Go back and install the rom zip file from the sd card.
6. Reboot.
It seemed to install OK as it took me through the Omega setup but didn't really say install complete...just went to the main CMW menu which I then proceeded to reboot as mentioned in step 6.
It comes up with Samsung Galaxy GSIII like normal but after it turns black, comes up with it again with a red symbol near top left and then takes me back to CMW. I deleted the old version of Omega off my phone and now I'm confused with what to do.
Can I do anything with Odin? I can still access the download mode.
Someone, anyone, please help me.
Thank you for your time.
AW: [Q] Flashing Omega rom gone wrong!
Remove SD-Card... Format it on a PC with FAT only put Omega on it. Boot into recovery. To be safe use cwm 5.xxx wipe evereything..
Turn off Device.. Put sd Card into the Slot and boot into recovery.. Install omega...

Hey i think you have a bad download of v39 (corrupted file) so the new rom didnt install properly, but the problem is you formatted your old system and rom, so now you need to download it again (now its omega v40 XXEMA2), make sure of the md5, put it on your external sdcard (make sure its FAT formatted). and then install it again.

When you say Format it on a PC with FAT...does it matter if its FAT32 formatted?

What do you mean by "make sure of the md5"? Also, like I asked the other guy...does it matter if it is FAT32 and not FAT? Downloading Omega v40 XXEMA2 now
Do you know what MD5 means ??? if not google .
FAT 32 not FAT 16 .

Phone Cleaning

Hi,
I 'm looking for a way to completely wipe what is on my phone
I still have some traces of old unused apps folder
And also some rest of secondary rom boot on my /system partition
Do you think i can delete this secondary folder without issue ? (see attached)
Any method to have a clean phone before flash would be appreciated
To have cleen phone just format sdcard0 ,
save your ROM .zip file to external sdcard to flash it after wiping everything "data+cache ... etc + sdcard0 "
---------- Post added at 12:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------
I think that .secondrom folder is created when you did a dual boot ,If have just one ROM then there shouldn't be any problems after deleting that folder
Hi,
For the secondrom i foudn a way (which is what you suggested also)
22. "How do I remove everything related to DB and run single boot again?"
A. In recovery, under dual boot options - "delete 2nd Rom". OR Delete .secondrom directory in /data/media while on 1st Rom.
Click to collapse
Format sdcard ...soudns instersting ...will doubleck to be sure that i have all stuff needed to flash roms/restore my data
Does this somehow impact a rom flash ?
So deletion of the secondary folder, format sdcard0, wipe factory / do all the wipes / format system and flash rom/gapps ....and i'm good to go ?
edit : Look much cleaner ...Thanks !!

unable to switch on phone as i forgot pattern for decrpting

ok so i recently changed my lockscreen pattern( which as you all know is also the encryption password) and forgot it . So after switching off the phone whenever i tried to turn it on it is asking for pattern to decrypt the phone.
Since the phone does not boot up no other password recovery method works(tried aroma file manager and password recovery zip also)
. I tried opening twrp but there i cannot mount the system parition without decrypting it first and for the very same reason i am unable to copy that data on my internal storage to my sd card or computer.
so is there any other way to open the phone without data loss (other than formatting the phone)
p.s-The files inside the data folder are also not aceesible so i cannot delete the password file .
I AM ON LINEAGE OS 14.1 WITH ZCX TWRP
Format data from recovery
Not wipe of data
Format data
But you loss every thing in internal memory
No harm to external sd card memory.....
---------- Post added at 12:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:02 PM ----------
If you want to backup internal memory data in reboot to recovery and connect to pc it enable mtp mode and copy you internal stroge data
Note : above method only work with twrp not stock recovery
